That said the original Phenom hardware pretty much stunk when it came out, even ignoring the L3 cache problem. However the Phenom II ended up as a pretty good CPU. Perhaps the next version of the Bulldozer will fix some of the design problems and it will end up being decent part.

AMD is already selling the Athlon II X4 631 and 651 which are a GPU disabled (or broken) versions of their A8-xxxx Socket F1 parts.
They would have to do some really good engineering tweaks to get more out of the bulldozer. It took them 14 months from Phenom to Phenom II and they got the benefit of going from 65nm to 45nm. Phenom II was popular because it was able to deliver decent performance cheaply. It compared well to the s775 Celerons and value E chips. Once the Sandy Bridge based "value" CPUs came out Phenom II is a much tougher sell.

I still think the x6 Phenom IIs are the best chips from AMD. I hope they can work their magic with Piledriver and Trinity.

(I knew about the 631, its the cheap AMD overclocker since it isn't held back by the GPU on die and uses the proven K10 core on 32nm)
  2. Windows 7 is one of the easiest windows installs I have ever done.

Its just a few mouse clicks.

Ill need some help when its time to get the OS installed ( never done that ). I think I can pretty much figure out how to put most of the pieces together myself since I have already replaced Ram, Hard Drives, and Video Cards and I am a pretty intuitive guy. What sucks is that I tossed out an old worktable a few weeks ago that would have been perfect to work on but I can work on my Computer desk.

I have plenty of small screwdrivers. Any other little tools I might need ??

    Again Thanks much !!

You can avoid it by going with a keyboard specifically designed for gaming or by trial and error (which I did, since basic keyboards are cheap).

I think the linked keyboard is the same model I'm currently typing on. It's dirt cheap but has very nice action. I used it with my previous build and am still using it. I like it so much, I have a spare sitting in the closet for when this one wears out.
I am still using a $12.95 Microsoft keyboard that is 12 years old. Just about every key has been worn down. I had to laugh when I bought the thing at CompUSA, the clerk asked if I wanted an extended warranty for $19.95. I said, "If the keyboard breaks, I'll just buy another one".

If there is anything I have discovered about Keyboards, the cheaper they are, the harder they are to destroy. Heh, my sister has my previous keyboard and its 18 years old now....
  4. I say go with Hyperstrike's advice.

Go with the evil empire: Intel

AMD's choice of putting out the Bulldozer cpus is just The problem was the Phenom II chips were better. So they killed the 45nm Phenom II/Athlon II chips and will stick with the awful Bulldozer and the decent but (Athlon II performing) on 32nm Llano.

Fear not, AMD marketing is going to work their magic! They are going to sell a 32nm Phenom II x8 (Failed Bulldozer chips) because of all of the negative press from the computer geek press about Bulldozer. Oh, I feel sorry for all of the uninformed people who buy a chip that wasn't good enough to be a Bulldozer but thought they were getting a Phenom II.

I Didn't bother replying to that.

    Soloing is selfish now?

    Lol

If it wasn't from someone I knew, I would not have responded at all.

I blame all of the old school team beggars who were always 4-5 levels down trying to get on a team and refuse to sidekick. After awhile I just ignore blind tells requesting to join my "solo" team. So, fast forward to today, I still have the habit of just ignoring such requests. I check my global friend list and if I don't see their name I just carry on as before.
  6. I won't feel satisfied until I have 48 level 50s on the server I play on.
  7. I'd like to see the "bored gal" from Dr Kane come back for revenge!
  8. I thought most players just run council radio missions from 40-50.

I prefer a mix of radios and WST the xp bonus from the WST from 40-50 is a nice bump since leveling really slows after 40.
  9. Glad to hear your machine is up and running and thanks for updating us
  10. I think just about all of my characters turn into PBAoE maniacs. Of course, not everything has it.

My recent blaster is actually a ranged blaster. Normally, they morph into blappers/PBAoE types. So on the Beam Rifle blaster I had to really re-wire my thinking to not play PBAoE.

I think the only other character who comes to mind would be my night widow who loved using cones.

I found I prefer playing my brutes like tanks so that my rage bar stays full. Rather than like a scrapper.

Corruptors seem to be the most interesting case of indecision for me. Balancing out dps + buff/debuff. Well versatility has a cost I guess.

But that's nothing compared to the drawn version:

From Paragon Studio's email advertising the Holiday Pack.

So, what's being sold in this pic? Look, just like the Give Gift emote, she's giving a present. Only thing is, she's presenting like a baboon in estrus. And she's offering a box. A box by her crotch. A crotch that seems to imply she's not wearing anything over her crotch. Did I mention a *box* by her *crotch*? You know that looks nothing like the Give Gift emote, right?

I expect such a graphic on the cover of Playboy. I've had a less revealing pic removed from the forums for not being "T for Teen."

There's enjoying the beauty of the human form (even if green) and then there's overt sexual pandering. This is the latter. I'd rather have seen this elf nude in just the gloves and boots frolicking in the snow and throwing a snowball then... *this* pose.

I mean, what was even the thought here: That you would get sales by sexualizing fur-lined clothing? Is there a big market for that fetish? "Oh, yeah, jus' like Mrs. Cluas, baby!"

And when you were selling the Gunslinger Pack, where was the drawing of the shirtless cowboy in what appeared to be assless chaps? Oh, that wouldn't have been appropriate? Hmmm....

Yeah, I know, this thread will be full of those saying, "The comic book industry panders to cheap sex all the time." My response, "Yes, but Paragon Studios doesn't have to also."

I wish that was true. Sadly, its mostly a case of people failing to comprehend the chat window.

With paragon wiki and forum search fu, a player should be able to at least read before and have some idea as to what will happen before going on the trial. Also, the player should at least inform the leader they have never run on a particular trial before. Most good trial leaders have macros for each phase of the trial. Even if a player has never been on a trial before, they should be watching what the trial leader is doing and reading the chat window for instructions.
  13. I agree on points 2 and 4.

Point 1, no way. T3 on alpha, Destiny and lore is fine.

Point 3, no because of how much leagues have people who drop out and how often team orders scramble. Way too many things to break. Even so, it doesn't fix it when some player who is 50 suddenly gets the league star and doesn't shift things to a 53.

If the devs want players to play trials, they have to cut down on time and gimmicks.

1- Move the level shifts to Judgement/Interface tier 1. (Oedipus Tex)
    • I would personally suggest combining this with a more linear progression: grant +1 level shift at tier 1 Alpha; grant +1 level shift at tier 2 Judgement or Interface; grant +1 level shift at tier 3 Lore or Destiny. This is a much more linear progression, and achieving a +2 level shift requires a bit of effort but comes in short order.

2- Allow players to see all level shifts, not just Alpha, when forming a League (Mokalus)
    • This can be used badly, "We want OLNY level 53s." Or it can be used well, "We have three level 50s, two level 51s, five level 52s and four level 53s, so lets try to concentrate on recruiting 52s and 53s." It gets better with the next suggestion...

3- Allow players to employ the old Lackey and Sidekick system, where a level 50 could have their combat level shifted to level (N)-1 when paired with a more experienced character. A level shifted 53 character paired with another level 50 character would increase their combat level by +2.
    • This would allow league and team leaders to increase the combat level of lower tiered players and increase the odds of a successful trial. No one gets excluded, and it allowes veterans and new players to mingle on even the hardest trial.

4- Improve the Team Up Teleporter
    • I think this has to happen no matter what...

Nothing I have said denies people the option to run whatever they want whenever fits best. But if you are level 42 and you want the best XP possible, you are going to run a defeat all ITF, not a Katie Hannon TF. What we have right now is the inverse of that, where the best rewards/time are lumped into the lowest tier Incarnate trials which are getting repeatedly spammed.
  14. That would have been so much worse.

The more difficult trials NEED characters that have developed to a certain point of power in the incarnate system to properly contribute, but there is a chasm between the current state of Incarnate content and where it needs to be for a healthy end game. What should be a linear progression towards more difficult trials with the option to return to older content has become an incessant grind fest of the easiest content at the detriment of gaming experience and long term VIP retention.

Is there any way to fix this?
  15. Since it is hitting both AMD and nvidia users....

Well dance in front of the computer with a rubber chicken! I hear that fixes things....

I have a friend with the exact same computer build as mine and yep he gets these. (Yes, he's on the same drivers)

For all we know its a windows update.

It was almost like this was a 48 hour flu for my CoH considering I had a terrible issue with it for 2 days and now nothing...I've also gone ahead and turned my graphics back up for about 3 hours and no issue at all!

If I do experience additional problems though, I will post it but so far so good and I've played the same SS/Fire brute as well as two redside toons for a bit and no problems.

On the bad side, a friend has now begun to have the issue as well even though he was fine up to this point.

No rhyme, no reason that I can see in this!

  17. the 6790 is a reject 6850. Pricewise, its better to go for a 6850, just have to be patient for a good sale.
  18. Its mostly about getting enough information.
  19. Meowtch: I don't see anything that jumps out on your CoH helper.

Edit: the settings should be ok, I am just trying to figure out what the common cause is.
  20. Someone else reported that their issues were coming from bitdefender.

Edit: often these things turn out to be software issues from programs other than CoH
  21. Have you tried doing a repair of your install? Its on NCsoft Launcher
  22. I can wait and see. DarkCurrent

Reports of people crashing on machines with supposedly "safe" drivers after 12/6 patch but no other common reason(s) other than the patch. I have not crashed as a result of the 12/6 patch using several different drivers.

I don't think city of heroes is the problem, I suspect the problem is other software such as anti-virus software.
  23. 11.9 seems to be the most stable of the most recent drivers. There has been an uptick of people having issues since 12/6 with "stable" drivers but no word yet as to a common cause.

(I'll note that I am using 11.3, 11.9 and 11.10 with no crashing issues.)

This setting seems a bit high.

  25. Of course it helps. The more info you can tell us the less we have to be Karnak and guess what you have.

Even very small details can be the difference. A problem could be with a certain memory configuration on a video card. Also, with all of the marketing "rebadging" and "naming tricks" of products its important we know as much as you can accurately tell us.
