I agree with everything StarGeek said, including the Disneyland analogy. When people ask why I go to SDCC so often (9 of the last 12 years), I tell them that it's like my version of a Disney vacation.
On Friday, and particularly Saturday, the exhibit hall is elbow-to-elbow, and you may have to wait literally hours to get in to a panel you want to see, or even into the convention center. Thursday and Sunday are less packed, but still crowded.
Anyway, I don't think it will be at all overwhelming for a 12 year old. I think it could be somewhat overwhelming for the parent of a 12 year old though. -

4) There are 1000 passes, so it is first come first serve, although we will allot a certain amount daily.

Wow, that's a very exclusive item, less about .6% of the game population (and that's assuming the Con Salesmen don't suck up a few hundred of them the way they like to do).
It's also a pretty exclusive party given that there's 2,000 seats (minus whatever is taken by the Salesmen to sell online). That's about 1.2-1.5% of the attendance of Comic Con.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless this is included on the list of SDCC convention exclusives, which it isn't at this time, I doubt many attendees, let alone scalpers, will know about it or be after it. I think the scalpers will be too busy trying to get as many He-Man stautes, Yoda animation cels, Dwight Schrute bobbleheads, Veronic Mars minibusts, etc. to bother with this item. -
No problem BurningBear. I monkeyed around with all the tab and event stuff enough that I finally got it working on the one character for whom I really wanted the accolade two days before the end of the invasions.
As luck would have it, just then my SG-mates decided they wanted to team with me, so I didn't have a chance to particpate in more than one or two invasions until the last night. I fought in five or six that night, following them from zone to zone. I got the bomb badge after 3 invasions that night, and I already had the Sentry badge, but for some reason no Heavy Suits were spawning, so I was still around three away from that badge and the accolade when I got discouraged and went to bed. Ah well, there's always August 1-7, if I don't get lucky between then and now.
Oh, and I figured that was the reason for them moving the announcements away from the easiest place for everyone to find them. I can't tell you how many times I saw players broadcasting "Where are the Rikti attacking?" "Why aren't they announcing the attacks???" last week. -

So how are those of us whom would love to be there but have no chance on Earth of being able to going to have a chance for the special Pocket D event?
[/ QUOTE ]
You may already know this, but the "Pocket D Event" is a physical get-together at a bar somewhere in San Diego. They are only calling it "Pocket D" as a nod to the game. Therefore, I'm not sure why anyone who can't physically be IN San Diego on July 26, 2008 would expect to be able to attend this event/party.
[ QUOTE ]
Can I get a Pocket D VIP pass for the Pocket D Jubilee event? Do I have to message Ex Libris personally to ask for it?
[/ QUOTE ]
As I understand it, you just have to show up at the NC booth at the convention to get it. Ex Libris did mention something about PMing him, but I think that's only if you're in a situation such as - you can't make it to the show until 5 or 6 PM on Friday, and not at all on Saturday and you're concerned that they will be out of passes on Friday by the time you get to the booth.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm assuming that despite having to be 21+ to get into the party anyone can get a ticket for the item?
[/ QUOTE ]
It sounds like anyone who has an existing account can get the code for the in game item, regardless of their age. I am curious what, if any, proof that I have an active account I need to bring to the booth. -
[ QUOTE ]
pfft... go to Dragon Con and then we'll talk.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, please do. I'm going to be there this year too! -
The company is just trying to be nice to the people who attend and who stop by the booth. Who knows, some of the existing customers who don't play other games, like me, might see something interesting at the booth and end up subscribing to a second game, thus generating more income for the company. That's the idea behind these giveaways/exclusives - to create a buzz and more booth traffic, not to "punish" loyal customers who can't attend.
That's why I think the exclusive in-game item is going to be something inconsequential, like a "Fanboy"/"Fangirl" badge or some such. I can't imagine they're going to give away access to an exclusive power, or even an exclusive costume piece, unless it's something silly like the Comic-Con "Eye" emblem.
I'm fortunate enough to be able to fly from Pennsylvania to attend the con again this year and yes, I'm happy/excited that NCSoft is giving away an exclusive item to attending customers. There's no way it's going to be something so impressive or game changing that anyone who can't attend would quit the game over it though. -
Yeah, well I created a tab for the Hero Zone Event Messages last night too and not a single announcement popped up on mine.
Devs: Please switch the announcements back to the Global Channel for the next invasion. Since that seemed to work perfectly well, I'm not sure why something that wasn't "broken" was "fixed" at all. -

Nothing bad, close relative turning 80 and having a party and I probably should be there as I will never hear the end of it if I skip it for Comic-Con.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to put too fine a point on it, but if the relative is 80, how many more years can you realistically expect this person to keep bringing it up?
...I'm just sayin'.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not worried about him bringing it, more like my mother every time I call her or see her.
[/ QUOTE ]
Speaking of which, why don't you call her more often?
-
I guess I still don't get the whole Event Channel thing. I added an "Event Announcements" chat tab on each toon I played Friday and Saturday, and I never saw a single invasion announcement on it. Clearly I did something wrong because other players seemed to be getting the announcements.
As a result my quest for the badges didn't progress very far. I only participated in three or four invasions total, and those only because I accidentally happened to be in the right zone at the right time. There's still four nights left this go-around, so can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong?
Also, is there a reason the invasion announcements were removed from the Global channel where a casual player is much more likely to see them? -
[ QUOTE ]
Yay! Rikti! Haven't seen these happy people yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
My advice: Get on, or form, a team of eight and head for the trainer in whatever zone is being invaded. As long as there is a high level emp or two in the crowd, you'll be in no danger, and the experience points will rain down on you like manna from heaven. During my first ever Rikti fight, my Rad/Rad def went from halfway between 3rd and 4th level to one or two bubbles shy of 5th. Almost a level and a half in less than 10 minutes, and she got a badge.
Beware though - Rikti are only the harbingers - the real enemy is... Lag! Dun-dun-DUN! -
Cool, thanks. I just know from experience that different artists have different concepts of what's considered adequate reference material.
-

Also just a thought for other folks attending the Con... I'm planning on putting together like some one page sheets with screenshots and barebones information for a couple of my characters. I'll see if I can hit up some of the folks on artist alley for commisions, and I'll have something to hand them.
My niece had this brilliant idea last year. I think she spent all of her Con spending money on commisioned artwork of her CoH character.
[/ QUOTE ]
anachrodragon, I was considering doing something like this myself since I'm usually in AA buying commissions anyway. Is there any chance you could post an example of what your niece put together since it soulds like she had gerat success with whatever she used? -
Awesome! I've suddenly become about twice as excited for SDCC as I already was.
Thanks, Ex and the rest of the team putting this together! The NC booth will be my first stop on Wednesday or Thursday. -
Manoa, don't feel embarassed. If you like the costume, that's what counts. If you're not pleased with the costume, what would you change? The use of yellow for the top and the legwarmers does make the toon a little monochromatic. Assuming you didn't have to do that to fit in all the colors, I'd consider using the dark red for the legwarmers.
Juggertha might also have meant "ordinary". Unlike the other entries, there's nothing that really screams "Superhero/villain" to me about Cherries 'n Cream. Maybe that was your intent, and if so, that's cool. I have a toon whose primary costume looks like street clothes and I'm perfectly happy with it. Otherwise even the addition of one of the "small mask" face options would "super" up the character IMO. -
I find toons that run away annoying too, but in some cases it is realistic, so I can live with it. However, when my scrapper is outnumbered 3:1 by red-conning enemies and two of them take off running? That's kinda ridiculous.
As for high level badging, well, I don't have any 50s, but I have hunted grey-conning Hellions in Perez to get that badge, and I see nothing wrong with that, as long as you're not stealing kills from someone who is on a mission. The only alternative to doing that is to spend much of your early levels fighting Hellions (or CoT, or Clockwork, or whatever) almost exclusively, thus missing out on other content the game has to offer. -
True, but if I had a lvl 35 or higher toon, I could redress it in Roman garb for this palette. Alas my highest alt is only 22. It's ok though, I already have something else in mind for this batch of hues.
-

Here's your new palette. Now get to work! You have til Sunday (to make up for holiday).
I'll try to get the critique done during my lunch break.

Oh how I wish I had access to the Roman costume parts. -

Stormbow
Nice job picking up on the southwestern comment and putting it into practice! I think it could use a little extra touches of turquoise to balance things out - perhaps the trim of the vest or the pattern of the skirt? Maybe even the shoes. Im not crazy about the shoes, and Id suggest one of the wrapped pieces, but thats more preference/personal style.
WINNER: Plasma Streamer
2nd Place: Stormbow
Congratulations! You both win a no-prize!
[/ QUOTE ]
Woot! Second place on my first try!
Thanks for the suggestions, Nazghul. Coming up with a decent looking Native American design was harder than I'd anticipated. I orginally envisioned Stormbow as a male, but creating a Native American male toon stymied me, so I created yet another female alt.
It was also harder than I thought it would be to work the turquoise and orange together. I tried all different combinations of the five colors on the skirt, and only orange on orange didn't look forced IMO. A turquoise trim on the vest probably would've looked good though, and I wanted to use the metal links belt (I think that's what it's called) for more turquoise, but it didn't line up with the top of the skirt quite right.
Lastly, I too was torn on the boots/shoes. I considered flat, matte leather boots as well as wraps, and I can't remember why I utlimately went with mocassins; probably just because they're different than anything my other characters wear.
Sera - IMO I thought you had this one in the bag, but maybe that's because I love me some techy toons. -
[ QUOTE ]
Would it be more or less fun, if we skipped the critique/winners thing and just jumped straight into another palette?
[/ QUOTE ]
Less fun, IMO. If there's no winner, it's not a contest, it's a showcase. Not that I expect to win, in fact I would be shocked if I even came close. As an analytical thinker, I know my costuming skillz are not on par with some of the more creative members, and so I'm as interested in critique and/or pointers as anything else. -

My thought exactly, that's why I created Stormbow.
That and it gave me an excuse to play two powersets I've never tried - Storm Summoning and Archery. -
I've been playing around with plant-based costumes in anticipation of I12, and I have a question about the "plants with leaves" gloves and boots option for females. Is there any way to get the sleeves and "leggings" i.e. leg tights long enough to completely hide the skin on the arms and legs?
I know I could make the skin tone green, but I don't want her face to be green, and I don't want to hide it behind a full helmet. -

Sweet!
I've been going to SDCC off-and-on since '97, but I only started playing CoX this January, so I never paid attention to the video game booths. That'd be very cool to get a sketch of one of my characters.
