OK, dumb question related to the first part of the first post in this thread - how do I access the NVidia Control Panel to change the settings listed?
I can't imagine the game looking any better than it already does for me, but it's worth a shot. -
Thanks. I left it off and so far (knock on wood) the game has run seamlesly for me. I have had no problems with Vista or my graphics card.
Also, a big thanks to BillZBubba for this guide and the time it saved me. -

*If you have a dual core or hyperthreaded processor, add the -renderthread to the shortcut's target line for the shortcut that the updater created. Example: My shortcut's target line looks like d:\games\coh\cohupdater.exe -renderthread 1
[/ QUOTE ]
OK, about this part - My new laptop has a dual core Intel Centrino 2 processor and my shortcut's target line has quotation marks around it:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
Should I eliminate the quotation marks, or just add a space and then -renderthread 1 so that it reads:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -renderthread 1 -
"...and that's why the woodpecker family had to find a new home."

Why would you have to change the hair color if you change the lightning color?
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't have to, I just thought it looked better if the hair and lighting weren't the same color. I decided to go back to the original color scheme though with the exception that I left the belt brown. I also stayed with the hairstyle and boots from the second version. -
Thanks for all the compliments everyone. I did however end up changing his look a bit. I decided to make him an electric/storm corruptor instead of a necro/storm MM.
- I opted for red eyes instead of white since the electrical effects are red villainside (a pet peeve of mine).
- Since the eyes are red, I made the hair white, and went with "long" instead of "barbarian".
- Since the hair and beard are white, I made the lightning yellow (could have made it red, but that looked awful).
- I also altered the color of the belt to brown and changed the boots to combat boots.
Lord Stormbringer v 2.0
Please give me your opinions of these changes. The one thing I don't like is that the lightning doesn't seem to "glow" as much now, but switching it back to white would be changing the hair color. Maybe black hair and a black beard would work. Either that or I'll just go back to the color combo in version 1. Lemme know, and thanks again! -
No worries. I may be lacking creativity, but I'm not so unimaginative that I would directly rip someone off. Besides, I decided to go less for "Regal" and more for (hopefully) "Imposing".
Lord Stormbringer -
I like both of those! Thanks for the suggestions.
In that second pic. the boots appear to be the "Bone" option, but i can't tell what the gloves are - "Sinister with Plate" or "Bone". Any idea?
I will play around with the concept a little more tonight and post screenshots of what I come up with.
Meanwhile, if anyone else has any more suggestions, lay 'em on me. -
Has anyone created a character they feel looks regal? Like a modern king, or lord, or some other sort of nobleman? I want to create a villain (mastermind or corruptor) who was once a nobleman and dresses the part, but I'm having trouble putting the right pieces together. I think the main problem is the lack of high collars.
A few things I'm set on - athletic build, supernatural face (probably #13), some sort of longer hair (long or barbarian), full beard. Beyond that though, I'm stumped. I want him to look imposing as well as sort of regal. I don't want to put him in a tux, and I don't picture a nobleman wearing tights, at least not a modern one. The robes we have sort of work, I just wish they weren't all so oriental looking. Oh and I have completely ruled-out that goofy little crown that's available under hats. I do have kilts available though, and I'm not opposed to putting him in a kilt.
Any suggestions or screencaps of similar type tunes would be greatly appreciated! -
I will post for opinions later, but I wanted to confirm - we're only allowed to submit one entry per account? I read the rules pretty carefully, I thought, but i didn't notice this caveat anywhere.
Thanks. -

Okay, yeah, you could technically convert real-world money to influence by doing the following:
1. Level a character to the point where you want to replace at least one enhancement.
2. Pay $9.99 for a respec.
3. Respec, and sell all enhancements that you want to replace.
Doing that gives you more influence than you otherwise would have had without the respec.
But in order for the paid respecs to affect the economy to a significant degree beyond the other respecs that are readily available, people would basically need to buy enough respecs to finance City Of 2 with full power customization, seamless zoning, vehicles, personal living quarters, and much, much more. And personally, that's a sacrifice that I'm willing to make.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which might be why they cost $9.99 instead of $4.99 or even $2.99 as one person suggested. Those prices would still probably make such a move cost-prohibitive, but they would tempt more people I'll bet. -
You know, one day I fully expect to come in here to learn that the Devs have announced something like "In addition to oodles of other new content, I13 will double the number of costume options for players", only to find dozens of players decrying too many costume options as the ruination of the game!
And maybe it's because I'm typing this at the end of a particularly taxing day at work, but I completely fail to comprehend how the fact that someone can afford to spend $10 on a respec somehow makes the game less enjoyable for someone who can't. Other than PvP, how does someone respecing their character even affect another player?
As for playing the market to earn sufficient influence to buy a respec recipe in a matter of a few days or a week, I personally didn't sign on to a Super Hero roleplaying game so I could spend time standing around a consignment house buying and selling commodities like a virtual stockbroker. I try to maximize the amount I earn for the drops I recieve, but I don't have the patience nor the inclination to track market trends, flip salvage, or buy low and sell high when I could be out teaming with my friends and beating the tar out of bad guys (or good guys).
I may purchase one of these at some point, but I won't be purchasing them often. So far, in seven months of playing, I've used exactly one freespec. -
I'll chime in as another big fan of the invasions.
what I don't understand is how they so adversely affect someone's gamplay that they would have to log off for the week. I guess it would affect people who have hunt missions, or just like to street sweep?
With the last invasion I couldn't get my events channel working right until they were almost over, so if I wanted to participate in beating back an invasion, I had to either work really hard to find them, or get lucky. 95% of the time though I played as if there were no invasions. -
I got back from SDCC yesterday. Despite the huge crowds, I had a good time. It was nice to meet and talk to a few of the behind-the-scenes folks like Ex Libris, Lighthouse and Blue Steel as well as some fellow players.
Alas, I didn't win the fancy-schmancy computer, but I did get a sketch of my character, and I had fun at the party during the brief time I was there. I also got a FREEM shirt, which I shall wear proudly to the quizzical looks of all those around me.
Now that I'm back I'm looking forward to logging on and playing my toons a bit. I'm starting to go into withdrawl from not being able to play them for 6+ days! -
Wow that is a lot of sweetness being offered up at the NCsoft booth. Hopefully I'll be able to score a character sketch, one of the in-game costume codes, and a Freem! T-shirt. I'll also be entering the raffle for that computer. I don't know what it has in it, but it's got to be better than what's in mine at home.
My flight leaves in 23 hours! -

I can't remember if it's been discussed before, but does Double XP also bring with it double rewards? With the way loot affects general character wealth, I'd hate to think we'd be spawning the second generation of WL babies with tons of levels but horribly broke in comparison.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you mean double drops (recipies, salvage, and "enchantments"), then no, those items are not doubled. -
What I love is how people got so upset about the recent limitations put on trial accounts and how those limitations are going to alienate any potential customers, and the game will go into a death spiral and yadda, yadda, yadda; and now it's like, "Double XP Weekend? Lock out those lousy freeloading trial account users!!!"
Not that I'm saying the same people are expressing both sentiments. -
Only 3 weeks 'til preview night!

Perhaps I am misunderstanding something. It sounds to me like the VIP Pass with the ingame item is only being distributed on Saturday, right? I noticed that Saturday is sold out for the Convention.
[/ QUOTE ]
It sounds like, from this post that they will be handing out so many of the VIP passes/game codes each day, including Preview night. Obviously I don't know about Sunday though. -

I said it before and I'll say it again - I just don't understand why someone would deprive themselves of the enjoyment they get from playing an awesome game just because they can't get one dinky little item that would most likely not enhance their gaming experience in the least anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
And I fail to understand why you need to understand. Isn't it enough that it upsets people and that the fix is really, really simple? Why wouldn't you wish this item on everyone!
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't "need" to know, I'm just curious why someone would have such an extreme reaction to something that is, IMO, so minor, and innocent. This isn't like threatening to boycott the NFL if they announce that all games will be available only on a PPV basis, or boycotting Texaco after they announce that they will immediately begin pumping all petroleum refining byproducts directly into the Gulf of Mexico.
Anyway, I'm now going to bow out of further discussion on the topic. IMO this thread has gone so far out of whack over what I consider (and would consider, even if I wasn't going) a cool little gesture from the management of NCSoft. Anything else I say about it would only add more fuel to fire. -

...please consider making this item available to those people who could not attend Comic Con. Perhaps for a small fee? This makes everyone happy.
[/ QUOTE ]
You must have missed the uproar over the fact that people were asked to pay for the Wedding Pack. I'm pretty sure "everyone happy" is the exact opposite of what your suggestion would result in. I personally wouldn't care, but I think if they offer it to non-con-goers after the show, it needs to be free of charge. -
I've never had to park when I go to SDCC, but I understand the convention center parking lot fills up early. If you're not getting there until after 10 on Thursday, there will definitely be no spaces left. On Friday, I think you'd need to get there by 7 AM give or take, to get a space at the c.c.
As for whether you need more than one day? You need more than one day just to see the whole exhibit hall! That doesn't include time to see any panels (which are different each day), to walk through the art show, to stand in line for autographs if that's your thing, or talk to artists about commissioning artwork.
Regarding places to eat - Rainwater(s?) on Kettner has absolutely the best steaks I have ever eaten. It's pricey though and requires reservations. There was also a fantasic little dessert place I went to one time about 10 years ago. I thought it was called "Just Desserts", but I can't find any info about it on the web. And some of the best, most authentic Mexican food I've had can be found in the Old Town section of the city. The gas lamp district and the restaurants around the c.c. get understandably PACKED every night of the con.
