  1. Wow, so hard to choose just one - Switzerland? Hawaii? New Zealand/Australia? My first time at Disney World with my parents when I was like 8?

Those were all fantastic, memorable trips, but I'd have to say my all-time favorite vacation was driving cross-country from Pennsylvania to California and back at age 25 with my best friend.

We had a blast. We saw a huge chunk of the country, tied to pick up girls at a lesbian bar in Albuquerque, ran out of gas in the middle of the Arizona desert, and camped under the stars and the giant trees in Sequoia National Park. Over 6700 miles in 11 days, and worth every second.
  2. I'm OK for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday this week. If it's possible to get a full team Monday or Thursday, I'd be up for subbing or or both of those nights for Sunday/Tuesday.

My friend and I had a long discussion about influence. Here's how I undersand it based on our conversation.

Influence is not money. It's how well known you are and how willing people are to give you things... for free.

Excellent explanation. Now let me throw you two possible curveballs:

    1) Villains and infamy. I get that the more feared you are, the more likely it is that people will pay you (e.g. give you free stuff) to get you to leave them alone, but what about the black market? If Doctor Boom invents something really evil and gives it to the Red Cranium for free, wouldn't people be like, "Woah, the Red Cranium is even more powerful, we should be more afraid of him and not worry so much about Doctor Boom who gave away that really powerful device of evil he invented"?

    2) Costume Contests. I guess you don't really need to explain these since they aren't a game mechanic, but rather a player invention, but I still think it would be fun to hear your take on their relation in inf, blueside and red.
  4. Thanks, I'm definitely not looking for a "challenge."
  5. So if one wanted to simulate a rickety little electricity-leaking robot, one would be better served making him an elect/elect brute than an elect/elect stalker?
  6. Nunchuck skills... bowhunting skills... computer hacking skills... Girls only want Hellions who have great skills.
  7. Both good answers, thanks.

I wonder why they never instituted a fee for using the trains? I know I'd be less impressed by Sooperdooper Guy if I saw him hanging onto one of those little handles on the train on his way to fight Larry Larceny than if I saw him flying through the sky over the city.
  8. Fees for enhancements and inspirations I understand - they make your characters better. Fees for common IO recipies and for crafting enhancments I understand for the same reason. Even fees for changing your reputation I understand - it can change the way the game plays and how you earn rewards.

But why fees for changing your costume? Other than to cut down on traffic at Icon or the Facemaker, what practical reason is there for tailor fees? Unlike the other things for which fees are charged, changing your costume does not affect the ease with which you are able to play the game, or the rewards you are able to earn. Do costume changes burden the game's software or hardware in some what that makes limiting them desirable?
  9. I'm not a PvPer myself, but from what I understand, there have been some pretty significant changes to that portion of the game in the recent past. So if you're coming back from a long time away, PvP, for good or bad, may not be what you remember it to be. But you can get some sweet recipies from PvPing now that aren't available anywhere else.
  10. Last night was crazy on Virtue. There were near simultaneous zombie invasions in two zones and shortly after that a Rikti invasion in Steel, a Paladin construction in KR, a Troll Rave in Skyway, and at least one other thing I'm forgetting.

I wish I'd taken a screen shot of my chat window - it was like all hell was breaking loose at once.

    Galaxy Question

I like to market the large inspirations I get in the tutorial to start my toons off with a (sometimes) nice little bankroll. With no access to a WW in GC, I either have to hold onto them until I eventually get to KR, or run out of my way to AP to sell them. Other than that, I agree, there's no real need to add a WW to GC.
  12. Arbys.

But they really need to bring back homestyle fries.
  13. She quit CoH or she quit doing porn?

    Galaxy Question

I would be far more likely to start in GC if WW opened a branch there than I am now.
  15. Yes, my answer was in regard to the title question and the fact that he was asking in a forum for questions to other players.

    OP: Try posting in Suggestions.

Aren't all the Giant Monsters in the game a part of the Canon of the game? If they are, shouldn't they all be fought?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why? They aren't doing anything. Lusca isn't attacking any boats, Babbage isn't stealing anyone's purse. Leave the poor monsters alone and go fight some of those muggers you keep running past, "hero."

    RP?

Gotta love homophobia couched in a self-righteous crusade for honesty in a video game. LOL

On the subject of lying vs. roleplaying, I understand the distinction, but I don't understand the indignation over people lying.

Someone posted a Crying Game example of finding out the girl they were dating was actually a guy, and in that situation, I totally agree that lying is egregiously wrong; but this is a videogame. Unless someone is somehow bilking you out of real world dollars by pretending to be something they're not, I don't see why it matters*.

If you are one of those people who sees a sexy female toon and gives "her" a valuable in-game gift just because you assume the player is a girl, then I have zero sympathy if your sexist [censored] gets played for a fool by the player of said toon falsely asserting that they are in fact female.

Likewise, if anyone on this game (or anywhere else on the 'Net) cybers with another anonymous person, then I again have no sympathy for the "disgust" they experience when they find out they've been lied to.

Here's a tip - always assume you're being lied to and don't do anything you'd find disgusting or embarrassing if in fact you were being lied to.

*Having said all of that, I do understand that if you form an actual on-going friendship with someone in-game and later find out that they have been pointedly been lying to you all along, whether it's about their gender, their age, their job, or what have you, it can hurt, and I too would probably end such a friendship. However, casual in-game aquaintences, I could care less.

Also, while I have many females toons and will casually roleplay them from time-to-time, or at least not come right out and announce at the formation of every team, "I am a male IRL," I will set people straight (heh) if I feel like they're treating me a certain way, either through flirtation or random gifting because they assume there is a female behind the controls.
  18. My modest proposal:

Remove XP from the game completely.

Delete all existing characters, and start all new characters at level 50, but let them still chose their powers themselves, level-by-level (like you do with a respec). Also, leave the MA and Oro tools in so that players can exemp/mal down to play low-level content if they want.

In addition to XP, remove all other rewards from the game except inspirations, purple IOs - that's right, IOs, not recipies/salvage - and one-time-per-character earnable stuff like unlockable costume pieces (customizable weapons should be set to reward on the first defeat of the enemy(ies) currently required to earn them). Give each toon 1000 inf to start and set a maximum sell price for all IOs to 10 inf. Also remove all badges.

Think about it, without having to worry about ever improving your characters, it will be so much funner of a game!
  19. Look at it this way - you like to drive pick-up trucks, and that's all you buy. You want Hypothetical Motors to put all the profits from your purchase of Hyprolet pick-up trucks, and the profits from you taking your Hypo-10 to the dealer for servicing, and the profits from the Hypo Motors floor mats and mud-flaps you bought into making newer and fancier pick-up trucks.

Then the price of gas goes up and people stop buying as many pick-up trucks. The public wants economy cars and hybrids instead. Unfortunately, Hypothetical Motors listened to you and didn't invest any money in developing economy cars or hybrids, so their business drops off precipitously. So now, despite your undying loyalty to Hypothetical Motor Corp., they are filing for bankruptcy and are likely to be out of business by the next time you need a new pick-up.

The moral of the story is, diversification is good, and a single basket containing all of ones eggs is bad.

Also, if NCSoft launches the next WoW mega-game, wouldn't you like to think some of the profits it generates will be invested in CoX?

    3) Dev XP Nerfs - Our main competition is NC Soft made story content. If XP for MA is nerfed badly so farmers have to find officiel content to farm instead, then also storyrunners might go the same way away from MA.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That statement makes no sense at all to me. There is no competition. If you are referring the Developer’s Choice awards, then that, to me, is a different subject. I, for one, still get a vastly huge XP reward (when I don't turn XP off) any time I want, whether in AE or not. As you have correctly stated, i do not know you and i cannot suggest how you are thinking, but I am thinking you need to team with some more experienced players. I offer my services on Guardian.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think what the person you are quoting is saying, is the same thing I said in my post - the stories in MA are nice, but without XP and other rewards comperable to dev-created content (i.e. if MA XP is reduced to discourage MA power-leveling) then the pool of players running MA missions for new content will dry up too.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I'm still getting that pop-up complaint box asking to upload all content (I forget the
exact msg, but it's caused by all the external avatar links).

    [/ QUOTE ]

You mean the "This page contains both secured and unsecured content. Do you want to enable unsecured content?" message? I just recently started getting that message, like within the last two weeks. And it comes and goes. Usually it will go away when I restart my computer, or sometimes when I just reopen the browser. Hasn't happened to me yet this week. Knock on wood.
  22. Isn't the reason Fire has higher dps that damage is all it does? Fire doesn't slow the target like ice, it doesn't drain endurance like electricity, and it doesn't debuff the target like sonic, radiation or dark.

It's my understanding that the "soft control" (not sure if I'm using that term correctly) of fire is the ability to defeat foes faster instead of slowing their attacks or making their attacks less damaging to you.
  23. Regarding Atlas Park, I still get a chill when I bring a new character in from the tutorial and I hear that heroic music playing and all the colorful costumes all around. Just my opinion, and I've never played any other MMOs, but I think that gives a better, "Wow, I'm a super-hero!" feel to a first-time player than would a Giant Monster that you can't really fight yet.
  24. Worse yet (this was ina regular mission in Skyway City, so hospital-to-mission travel time was an issue):

Most of the team wipes in a particularly difficult mission; people go to the hospital. Most of the team wipes on the next spawn; people go to the hospital. A few people wipe on the next spawn; leader announces that he will grab awakens on the way back from the hospital.

One player lays defeated in the mission, and doesn't go to the hospital; everyone assumes s/he is waiting for an awaken. Leader returns with awakens and tries to give one to the defeated player. Defeated player's insp tray is full.

Leader: "Hey, 'defeated player,' make room in your tray for an awaken." ... "Hey, 'defeated player.'" ... "Yoo-hoo, 'defeated player.'"

Other player: "I think s/he's afk."

    Multiple anyuerisms (sp?) ensue.
