How much trouble would it be to just send out a GMotD a few days before a new issue is going to drop to warn people to use up their freespecs? Niv posted her announcement sometime on Friday, why not just go ahead and send out an in-game message at the same time?
No, it's not a big deal, and it's not something I'm going to get all drama-queeny over, but if you're going to go to the trouble of announcing it at all, why limit it to the forums? -

I was iterating how easy it is to manipulate content when user creation is allowed, and seeing what was possible got rid of the game for allowing such mechanisms because it was nothing I was interested in at that point. I then compared it to AE as an example of why user created content shoudn't be allowed in games.
Reading Comp 101 is in order.
[/ QUOTE ]
My mistake. The game included a mechanism that allowed people to cheat, so rather than play it the way it was intended, and maybe enjoy it, you got rid of it. That doesn't make any more sense to me than my first supposition. For as long as there have been games there have been ways to cheat at them; that doesn't mean all games are flawed. -

My apologies...not "all" of the players do this.
It was an over exagerration to get a point across.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't take offense, I just wanted to make sure that at least one person is known to still be legit who started after the AE farm bonanza hit.
I think I'm the only person that is opposed to the AE system in this game. Anytime a game introduces player content there is cheating and ways to get around the gameplay. I've been guilty of it in other games.
I remember in Neverwinter Nights: I created a dungeon with a dragon in it. I took off the dragons armor and made him paralyzed so he couldn't attack. I would take my toons in and just kill him repeatedly. In about 30 mins I could have a max lvl char because as long as you didn't train up you continued receiving the required experience to level of a level one across 20 levels.
I quickly sold the game and never looked back. Player content has its rewards but more often than not, it is just a conduit for exploitation of game mechanics which has proven to be the case in ae.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I'm reading this right, it might very well be the dumbest thing I have read on these forums. You knowingly cheated at a game, and then blamed the game for allowing you to cheat??? That's like buying a mystery novel, reading the last chapter first and then saying the book sucked because it allowed you to read the ending first.
Anyone who uses MA to PL to lvl 50 in a matter of days and then says, "That's it? This game sucks," is a moron. -
I'd like to bring my lvl 48 mind/fire dom if you'll have me. I really want to get through this ITF sucessfully for once.
-
I didn't see Friday's announcement until this morning either, so if today's early maintenance was for i15, then no, I didn't use any freespecs.
My lvl 48 dom is the only character I planned on respecing anyway due to the changes to doms and to earn back some inf by swapping out some common IOs for recently crafted set IOs. It would've been nice to have two shots at respecing her in case I goofed something up, but if I wasted one, no big deal, I'll just have to be more careful when I do respec her.
That said, if i15 is hitting today, having more than 3 days notice, and/or having the announcement in the actual announcements forum would've been preferable. -
To the OP: If they'd never created the MA/AE system, and instead added a couple of new contacts and missions to both sides, there would be people complaining that it's all just "more of the same." While some of the regular mission info is really well written, particularly high-level red side missions, when it comes right down to it, it's all still run-run-run, punch-blast-mez. In other words, after several dozen missions inside a warehouse office or cave, lots of folks were looking for something different to do in this game, and the MA/AE system provided that for them.
To the folks in this thread and others advocating the removal of rewards from the MA/AE system: I still can't believe this is a serious suggestion that people keep making. This is not a game about reading and writing comics stories, it's a game about creating heroes and villains and making them more and more powerful.
If MA/AE had been released without rewards, or rewards were to be stripped out of MA/AE, the thud it would make hitting the ground would set off seismometers throughout the world. Sure a handful of people would still use it to write stories for their S/VGs or friends to RP, but those people would only run through those stories once, and many of them probably reluctantly at that. Everyone else would ignore MA/AE completely and it would've been the biggest financial and PR failure this game has seen. I certainly know I would not risk wasting half an hour or more of my game time playing through an arc that may be really great, but that could also suck rocks, but which won't advance my character either way.
If the Devs were to announce that in I16 CoV is getting two new contacts in every zone with a total 70-100 new missions between them. None of the missions are going to award exp, inf, prestige, or drops of any kind, but they'll be REALLY well-written and fun to play. How do you think that would go over? The words "lead balloon" come to mind.
So can we please stop with the (IMO ridiculous) suggestions of stripping rewards out of the MA system? -
Allow me to add a link to a wonderful website for anyone like me who cares for a feral cat:
http://www.feralvilla.com/
They make an awesome, affordable, and easy to assemble, insulated shelter for feral cats. My feral cat has gone through two Pennsylvania winters in the one I bought. That site also sells feeding stations. -
Coolest? I have no idea - someone else would have to decide that, but my favorites are:
[u]Guardian[u]
Mr. Piddles and Kelly - psi/mind blasting mutant kitty and his reanimated dead owner
Dead Serious. - dead ill/emp controller dressed like a clown (really wish I could get rid of the period though)
Thundershaft - Native American storm/Arch defender
Venus Crimetrap - plant/kin controller
Dr. Time - grav/kin controller
[u]Virtue[u]
Lord Stormbringer - elec/storm corruptor
The Hydrogen Bombshell - sexy rad/rad defender
Titan of Industry - robotic ss/nv tank
Rattletrap - robotic elec/elec brute
Arachnomancer - reserved for when I unlock VEATS.
[u]Names I've had and loved, but released because I couldn't get into the characters[u]
Victorious Secret
Cold Dead Hans
[u]Possibily my favorite name of all, but it got rightly genericked[u]

the state would be called "State of Rhode Island and " and that would just be silly.

Yeah, but then they'd be in the perfect position to take over another state...

which we just can't have.
Actually...
"The State of Rhode Island and what used to be Connecticut" does kindof have a ring to it
[/ QUOTE ]
How about "The State of Rhode Island and Puerto Rico"? That way we finally get Puerto Rico formally into the fold, but we don't have to change the damn flag again. Although, with Independence Day coming up, it could be a real boon to the economy to force everyone to buy new flags... -
I'll mainly be playing with the colors of electricty. I'm half OK with the hero side colors, but I HATE red electricity. I'll also probably monkey around with the colors on energy blast on my one water themed toon to see if I can get it to look more like water. Other than that, I'm not sure.
-
Well, to the OP before this gets locked or deleted...
Male characters in this game regularly dress in the rough equivalent of pantyhose or bodystockings - two garments generally considered "female."
Are you worried about this causing little Timmy to raid big sister Jenny's closet? If not then relax with the whole "crossdressing" thing. By the way, your last name isn't Wertham, is it?
Sorry if these points have already been made, but I couldn't bring myself to read through 38 pages of ridiculousness before I posted. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go change - these high heels are killing me! -

I hate having to train using an Arachnos person, but then I'd hate having to train under any other villain. Shame they couldn't have put some other means to level that wouldn't require you to yet again humble yourself.

You could always go to Pocket D and have War Witch train you. Sure it would be a pain, but if it's important to you... -

No I AM NOT dissin them. But, wasnt Roper off in EU when Comic Con happened? Or something like that???
I am 98% sure I read that somewhere...

You mean last year? Comic Con 2009 is next month.
As for moving the convention, I think their best, and maybe only, option would be to move it to Vegas. I don't see how they could expand the SD convention center any further, unless they went up. -

Absolutely 100% incorrect. Sorry you've been involved in some shady, or downright rigged CCs, and are bitter because of it, but I've won, placed, or shown in a few in the past couple of months, all on different characters, and I have no connection to any of the people running them. And most of them were on Virtue because Guardian, my other home server doesn't seem to have them that often.
I've also entered Virtue ccs where I knew had no hope of winning because the other entries were that good. If I've ever been in a fixed cc, the person who won probably would've won a legit cc anyway.
Lastly, have you ever run a cc? If not, try it sometime - you'll find out it's not that easy. Just because you're honestly picking the costumes you think are best doesn't mean everyone in the contest is going to agree with you, and not accuse you of running a rigged contest or just picking FotM costumes. -
Hate to do it guys, but I'm going to have to miss tonight's get together. Feeling feverish achey and a little nauseous, so I'm just going to sack out on the couch in front of the TV tonight. Sorry, and have fun.
Let me know what I need to catch up on. -
Marvel knows better than to sue NCSoft again. Did you by any chance read Astonishing X-Men as written by Joss Whedon? The one with the paramilitary group subdivision called SWORD that recruited superheroes to fight alien threats? Sound familiar at all?
Also, I think somebody petitioned my insect-themed villain The Bee-yotch resulting in her name getting genericked, so I'm bitter.
That is a sweet looking Vision though! -
I disagree. Very little in this game is a surprise or requires strategy - running into Sappers fits both those criteria. As much as they frustrate me, I still like that they can provide a challenge for even the strongest characters.
-
The ones without the littl hats on them (which I personally think look dumb) are quite passable as feathered wings IMO. Do they look as feathery as the Angel wings? No. Do they look feathery enough until you get your 15 month vet reward? Hope so.

Because the half a dozen times I've done this it is nearly impossible to get everyone to click simultaneously. We've tried syncing to the countdown timer as well as "3, 2, 1, NOW!" in team chat. Always seems to take 3 or 4 tries before the group is successful.
Plus if anyone gets bored and quits the Trial before the click phase, it ends up being a waste of time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Use the Mission Timer.
At 25:54 the team leader says "click at 25:20". When you see 25:20 on your mission timer (synchronized by the Server), you click along with everyone else. Simple.

Yeah, I think you overestimate the ability of CoH players to A) follow instructions or B) read. I was on one of these that took something like 20 minutes to complete after everyone was in place at the glowies. One person jumped the gun like 5 times in a row; it was so bad I was beginning to suspect they were griefing us.
Another person kept moving around after they were in place, aggroing mobs and getting killed, which meant the they'd have to travel back from the hospital (at that time in AP) and then the stealth porter would have to get them back in position. After that the moron with poor impulse control would click the glowie too soon, then the jitterbug would get killed and the cycle would start all over. -

...in fact I can safely say that none of my characters are gender-curious...
[/ QUOTE ]
You know, I've seen this reaction from a couple people and while I can also safely say that none of my characters are gender curious either, there are a few uses that hit me right off the bat that don't involve gender-bending:
1) You could effective play a chain of legacy characters with a single slot regardless of sex and/or size.
2) A Deadman homage that has to possess the bodies of ordinary people to interact with the world can now mix it up a little. I wanted to do something like this a year ago but the turn-off for me was that the civilian costumes would have had to be all male and roughly the same height. No longer a problem.
3) If you are unhappy with your choice of sex for a character, you can effectively re-roll without losing a level. Granted, I don't think I've ever done this one myself but I've known a few people who have...so I think it's a great use of the feature.
Anyway, to each his own. I just wanted to say a bit about the preconception that some people seem to have that the gender changing thing has to be sexualized. While I'm sure that some ERPer will use it in a way that will make me want to wash my eyeballs, I think there is some good clean fun to be had as well.

Thin, short male character -> maxed out huge character. No gender bending required.

Or a normal-sized character shrinking to minimum size to sort of simulate going to insect size ala the Wasp, Ant Man, or the Atom. -
[ QUOTE ]
Suddenly, overnight, every established character in the game finds an excuse to become a shapeshifter of some sort.
Who wants to help me make a super-sentai team of five tiny aliens piloting 'giant' 8-foot-tall robots?!
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll mainly use this power on two or three insect-themed characters to simulate them shrinking. I know we can't go below 4', but even that reduction, when coupled with toggling on a stealth power, will help me RP being insect-sized.
I also have a character who is a gamer whose uncle got him an AE account. Now he will be able to enter the AE building as Tim, and enter his missions as Captain Astonishing!
I'm sure I'll find other uses for this, but those are teh two that come immediately to mind.
And to me, while this doesn't affect the character in any way other than asthetics, I think this is more than enough of a "power" to make up for a lack of Mystic Fortune/Mission Teleporter type ability.
I predict this will be the best selling super booster yet. -
Never mind, I found the announcement.
This is quite possibly more exciting than the color customization we're getting with Issue 16.
So of course there will be an enormous outcry that once again people have to pay for the really cool stuff.
That said...

Despite no announcements on the boards, this page confirms NCSoft will be exhibiting at San Diego Comicon next month.
"Well, of course they are, why wouldn't they be?" you may be asking.
That's a legitimate question, but if you take a look at this page, two names that seem to be missing are Atari, and Cryptic, which is just odd, unless they exhibit under some other name and I don't know it.
[/ QUOTE ]
If Cryptic is set on releasing CO at the start of September, then I'm not surprised that they'd skip Comic-Con. They're getting into crunch time, and it'd be better to have everyone at the studio working away than have guys take at least a week off to get things planned, set up, actually run at the Con, and then back home. Paragon Studios isn't under the same sort of pressure that Cryptic is right now, having a large expansion and a free update to worry about as opposed to launching a brand new game.
That said, I'm now looking forward to what goodies we'll get leaked to us via folks visiting the Paragon Studios exhibit during the event.
[/ QUOTE ]
This pretty much. Also keep in mind Cryptic/CO might end up being there, as I heard some of them stated they regretted not really being in force at E3.
[/ QUOTE ]
OK, so you're saying they might not be there, but on the other hand they might? lol
