  2. If you're going to keep giving these away at conventions - set up a means for the player who receives it to apply it directly to their account at the booth. Give them a souvenier card as a keepsake if you want, but give them the code and watch them apply it on the spot. I think the European folks did something like this at Games Con didn't they?

It makes no sense to me for NCSoft to deny these codes to non-attendees (particularly since all their cons are on the west coast), and yet they allow so many of them to fall into the hands of scalpers that people have multiples of them listed on eBay for exoribinent prices.

I'm not opposed these codes being convention exclusives (although I think it's unfair that they are limited to such a small area of the country), but if you want them to be exclusive, then make them EXCLUSIVE using the method above, or something similar.

Certainly it would be possible for someone to "presell" the codes on eBay if the buyer is willing to give the seller their account information, but I don't know how many of us are that trusting, desperate, or stupid.

Alternately, make the codes more widely available so that players don't have to resort to paying $60, $80, or $100+ to a scalper on eBay who somehow managed to snag three or four of them. And no, I don't mean raffle one off every three months to someone lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

    Feel better soon, Positron!
  4. Back around the time The Phantom Menace came out, I joined my first message board - the SirStevesGuide Star Wars forums. I wanted a Star Wars themed name, but I didn't want to go the same route as all the "Darth This" and "Obi-Wan That" members, so I tried to think of an obscur SW character that I liked.

I thought about the first time I saw Star Wars when I was 10 years old and remembered the scene that cracked me up when Chewbacca roars at a little toaster-looking robot in the halls of the Death Star and it scoots away squealing. I found out that little robot was an MSE-6 Mousedroid, so I tried the name "mousedroid." It wasn't taken, so I took it. I've used it on numerous message boards, Star Wars and otherwise, since then.
  5. Wow, I hope whichever Dev came down with the H1N1 at PAX is OK, and same with the other players who attended.

Swine flu should be reserved for people like the scumbag who took three of the costume cards and is selling them on eBay with a starting price of $100 each.

In the lowest level zones (Atlas, Galaxy and Kings Row) there are two Hero Corps representatives that stand on either side of the trainer a little distance away who sell and buy TO enhancements. You can also find one at the bottom of the stairs inside City Hall, and basicially any other point on your map that is marked as a "Store."
  7. Other than the aforementioned "Curse of Weariness" that I hadn't even heard of the first time I ran this arc, I don't recall my Broadsword/Willpower scrapper having any major problems with the Vanguard Sword. And I know the reason can't be that I am an awesome player, because I'm certainly not.
  8. The most fun ATs to play for ME, are:

    Dominator
    Scrapper
    Blaster

And I'm just starting to get into Brutes.

Least fun, again for ME, are:

    Tanker
    Controller
    Mastermind

Obviously I like toons with high damage output and at least a modicum of solo survivability. YMMV

Interestingly, of the characters listed in my signature I have (avg level in parentheses):

    5 Blasters (19)
    2 Brutes (7)
    3 Controllers (24)
    2 Corruptors (18)
    1 Defender (14)
    2 Dominators (31)
    2 Scrappers (35)
    1 Tank (10)
  9. Other than creating a radiation/* blaster, I don't think i16 will add to my altitis in any appreciable way. I'll be glad that I can color my villains' electricity blue-white, but to me, playing an electric/electric blaster with purple blasts of "eldritch magic" will not feel any different than playing a normal old elec/elec blaster with normal-colored powers.

Now if I could customize the powers to the point of making the blasts look (beyond color) and sound differently, I'd be more tempted to make new toons. If I could make energy blast look and "sound" more like a laser beam for example.

I read Snow Globe's original post to say "antithetical," which means opposed to, not anti-ethical, which doesn't mean anything really since it's not a real word, but which was taken to mean unethical. There is a big difference between finding something antithetical and finding something unethical. I find working 60-70 hours a week antithetical, but it's not unethical if someone wants to put in that many hours at work.

    *squeeee* i16 :D

Might wanna go ahead and use those freespecs soon, folks. Just sayin'.
  12. Thanks everyone. I think this toon is only lvl 13, so I guess it's time to commit some crime!
  13. ...is there any way to get rid of the "The" in front of it?

For example, let's say I want to rename my character, "The Decimator," so that she is henceforth known as "Not So Very Nice Lass." When I change her name on the log-in screen, she shows up as "The Not So Very Nice Lass." Am I stuck with that, or can I get the "The" the heck out of there?
  14. I think the delay was my fault. I saw the piece I assume Foo is talking about in my e-mail this morning, but my stupid job intervened before I had a chance to reply how much I liked it, and then I kinda forgot to get back to him until I saw this thread. So if you want to throw stones... well, don't throw them at me because stones hurt!

You lost me with the whole thing about birds, beasts and munchkins, but I can definitely say that I follow the "ultralite" RP path moreso that any other RP path. That is, with very few exceptions, I write a bio/origin for each of my toons and I generally play them in character. But aside from one semi-regular team, I don't get caught up in the explorations of character backgrounds or motivations.

If you do the mission arcs in Faultline, at one point you'll get a mission door that is in that tunnel complex. The first time I got that it was confusing because I followed the mission waypoint marker and it seemed to just be pointing to a bare dirt area. What it was really pointing at was *underneath* where I was standing, and the trick was to go West a bit to find the dug out tunnel entrance.

Not sure which contact it is, but someone also sends you on a Faultline mission where the door is in an underground parking garage. It was very frustrating the first time I got the mission because the tunnel to access the garage is a fair ways away from the mission door.
  19. No, what Fleeting means is that when you switch builds, the Mission Teleporter is recharged on your other build, and you can switch builds every 15 minutes.

I've never tried this so I don't know if it's recharged every time you switch builds, or only the first time and then the teleporter is on a 2-hour counter on both builds.
  20. I'll be on Sam this Tuesday night starting at 8:30 ET until 10:30 or 11 PM ET, and pretty much every Tuesday night that I don't have something come up. Anyone who wants to join me on my missions is welcome to, whether it's your regular F5 toon, or another. I'll remain solo until 9 or 9:30 so that I don't have to leave a team, and no one else has to join a non-F5 team if they show up, but if no one from F5 wants to team by 9:15 or so, I'll probably start looking for a team of some sort.

I'll be playing Sam in character like I always do, but I'll be playing Sam in character. If we get to a point where F5 is clicking again like we were at the beginning, I'll be all for some basic RPing. But until then, I'm not really interested in signing on at 8:30, waiting around until 9 to see if anyone else appears and then RPing in the base for 30-40 minutes before logging off.

Also, if anyone has any AE missions they've created for their F5 toons I'd love to play them.

Grinjack and I had a good time running missions in Striga last Tuesday. Even though he used a non-F5 toon we both played in character and it was a lot of fun. So even if you don't particularly feel like playing your F5 toon on Tuesday nights, I'm cool with teaming with other toons too. I know that goes against the idea of a static team, but frankly there has been a little too much static to our team this past month or so.

As for other times/nights of the week, if I'm on and one of you wants to run some missions with your F5 toon and I feel like switching to Sam, I'll join you. If I don't feel like playing Sam, I'll also join you if you're willing to team with a non-F5 hero. If I don't feel like playing heroes at that time, or I have an impending prior RL comittment, I'll still be around on Sam every Tuesday night at the above times.

Yes if, as the OP proposed, they haven't played for so long that they don't have a global handle. If they quit three weeks ago, then no.

How about a less nonsensical analogy? You work for ACME Widgets, Inc. and have a pretty sweet parking space right by the door. You leave to take a job at Generico. After three years you decide you can't stand your boss at Generico and decide to take a job offer back at ACME. When you return, you find that your old, sweet parking space has been reassigned to a woman in accounting. Do you really think YOU deserve to have it back?
  22. In a future QoL update, can we please have the Mission Teleporter power prompt you for which mission you want to be teleported to if you haven't "set" one in your mission list?

I solo a fair amount so I'm not always in he habit of setting my mission, and invariably when I chose to use the MT power, I get teleported to the wrong mission because it picks the first one on the list.

This is not a huge problem, but given how long it takes to recharge the power, it'd be nice to know you aren't in danger of wasting a use.
  23. Autohit and doesn't break sleep? Wow, there's no contest.

    Thanks!
  24. Blame the homosexuals? C'mon now, BayBlast.

Sure, we don't have the chat transcripts, so we don't know how the conversation went, but if the first quote you cited is true, and he was actually told that he should move to another server if he didn't accept homosexuality, that is absolutely no different than someone on Guardian saying, "If you're homosexual, you should go play on Victory."

Granted, the conversation might have gone something like this:

Victory Player: "...and Virtue is the unofficial RP server, and Victory is the unoffical gay server..."
OP's Friend: "Unofficial gay server? I can't believe they'd have something like that in this game."
Victory Player: "It is. If you're not comfortable with openly homosexual players, you might have a better experience on another server."

But if it wasn't blown out of proportion or misrepresented, then the Victory player was in the wrong. Just because someone is in a persecuted minority doesn't excuse them if they make racist, sexist, or any other kind of prejudiced comments.
  25. Consume
Minor PBAoE fire damage to foes

I'm respecing my level 50 mind/fire dom and I'm curious about peoples' opinions of these two powers. Which would you recommend taking? Would you recommend taking both? Would you recommend against taking either since I also plan to have Stamina in my build, which will look something like this...?
