In case you didn't know, there is an exploration badge in the Villain's tutorial called "Jailbird" and the only way to get it, as far as I know, is to run the tutorial. So if you have a villain-side badge collector toon that skipped the tutorial, you're out of luck on that one badge.

I expect something special in-game, even if it's just a special cut scene of the ceremony that plays when you enter City Hall for the first time that day. For this specific date to be part of CoH lore for five years, I would be dissapointed if it passed without anything special happening in-game.
Oh, maybe they'll do something like Manticore and Sister Psyche's wedding where you gather in AP or Mercy for a chance to go see the ceremony. Although since it falls on what is essentially a non-work day in America, I doubt they'd make the Devs do that. -
The other night on Virtue, a few teams in Sharkhead spent quite a while trying to get Jack to spawn. Finally after close to an hour, he was spotted. Everyone rushed to him and took him out in short order, relieved to finally get the badge. On the very next spawn cycle, guess who spawned again. It was truely a forehead-slapping moment.

Conversely, I am an awesome person and a competent player, but only two of my toons - my red-side and blue-side badge toons - have over 200 badges. In fact, only about four of my toons probably have more than 100 badges.

Sounds like CoH just isn't for you, but if you're already paid through Jan 17th, come back for the Winter events; they're fun and while there are some random snow beasts, they're more easily avoided than the zombies.

Honestly, Laura Croft never even crossed my mind when creating the character, and I don't really think she looks anything like Laura Croft. If anything, she resembles a more muscular Uma Thurman and I might have had her never-seen character from the "Fox Force Five" TV Pilot she mentions in Pulp Fiction in the back of my mind (although I think that character used knives, not guns).
Anyway, I like MaHaBone23's suggested bio (sorry Heraclea - yours is maybe a little too close to Laura Croft), so with a little tweaking, I'll probably use that. -
OK, I'll give this a shot in anticipation of a character I'm going to create once Going Rogue hits:
1. Name: Bang-Bang and gender: female.
2. Archetype: blaster and power sets: dual pistols and (most likely) devices, including pools: unknown as of now.
3. Origin: natural.
4. A quick description of their appearance: 6' tall, athletically-built caucasian woman with short blue hair (possibly a wig). She wears tinted glasses that hide her eyes, a black patent-leather bodysuit, a gun belt, a dark purple suede leather jacket and dark purple patent leather boots. -
Quote:The Elementals was the first "independant" comic I ever bought, and I think I still have all the issues. I really wish "Coventry" had lasted longer - that too was a fun little book. The Elementals actually got me into comics (that and Michael Gustovich's Justice Machine.) I did a spit take when I saw he wrote an arc.
I can think of few comics writers I'd be as excited to see write a MA Arc as Bill Willingham. Peter David maybe, as well as J. M. DeMatteis and Warren Ellis. Looking forward to playing this! -
Quote:Yeah, I would hope that the advances made with not only power customization, but the body-sculpting tailor options would mean that open hand, clawless animations for the claws sets are not far off. In the meantime, I'll make due with the widow claws and a little selective recognition. As I recall, the main issue [with natural claws] was that the current animations wouldn't work for "Natural" claws which meant until there was a way to provide alternates they were a no go. Now that we have Power Customization, hopefully BAB will revisit the idea.
ETA: I don't know the first thing about writing code for videogames, so I realize the two advances I've cited above may have absolutely nothing to do with making natural claws a reality - I just used these as examples of things we thought we'd never get that eventually became a reality. -
If there are some in-game goodies that come from preordering like there were for CoV, I'll preorder. If it just gives you a chance to get into Beta testing or allows you to access the content a little sooner, I may just wait until it releases.

I have a few "fun" characters that are based on pre-existing, non-comicbook characters, and usually they just elicit a chuckle or a complimentary comment from teammates or folks I pass on the street - one has even won a few costume contests.
That said, I would advise you to keep in mind what I keep in mind every time I play one of these toons - there are people out there who will petition your toon either out of spite, or more likely because they feel like it's the right thing to do to protect the game and Paragon Studios. So don't be surprised if some day you log in and your character Bark Simpton, or whatever is suddenly generic_hero 1278923412. -
If the leader was someone you knew and he had left the base in usable condition, I wouldn't see a problem with returning leadership to him. But by your own admission, you didn't know him, and he left the base dismantled, thereby impeding your ability to use it in his absence. Given these facts, I would be very hesitant to give him the SG back when he returns because he may very well just view you as a prestige mule.
If you want to give him base-editing permissions so he can design it to his liking, fine, but I wouldn't turn leadership back to him. -
And ideally, I'd need to be at least level 10 to start, otherwise I could only do the first mission if I understand correctly. I don't think I can get him up that high in such a short time, although I could try doing a sewer run for some relatively quick levels. We'll see.

I have a relatively new Elect/Elect Scrapper - Rattletrap - whom I wouldn't mind running through the Clockwork sweep with you, but he's only like level 4, so I don't know what difficulties that would cause.
-
I would like to request Slot #2, please.
-
I'll put up 13-million in influence towards a costume contest if someone wants to orgainize it, and if I can participate in judging. Unfortunately I have no infamy on Guardian.
One suggestion - the participants in the contest should have two costume slots available. In one slot they should have their "standard" heroic costume, and in the other their praetorian costume so they can switch back-and-forth for the judges to compare. -
Yeah, I agree with the suggestion about the name completely. It's your VG and you can call it whatever you want, just keep in mind, a generic, cool sounding name like The Lords of Injustice is probably going to attract more casual members than a name like Shikratia's Shirkers. That name brings more questions to mind than anything - who is Shikratia? Why is his/her name so hard to pronounce? Why are they called Shirkers - do they just blow off their responsibilities all the time?

Welcome to the game! I don't have any toons on the servers you're on, so we haven't teamed, but if you're ever on Guardian or Virtue, feel free to look me up.
Quote:Same here. I saw CoH when it first came out, but shyed away from it because I was afraid of being forced to play with, or against, people who were much better at video games than me. When I finally bit the bullet 3-1/2 years later it only took me a few hours to realize how much fun I'd been missing out on.Going from primarily single player off-line play to an MMORPG is an interesting experience and one I've been afraid to engage in for a long time. Now that I've played this game--even for only a week--I'm regretting taking so long to take the plunge. -
Postagulous - I don't know how long you've been actively subscribed to the game, but based on your 2006 registration date, I have to wonder if you aren't at least a 9-month Vet. If you are, you should have a Veteran Reward Respec (Vetspec) available for every character on your account. If you haven't already burned that, I'd use it to straighten out your tank rather than playing him/her through 14 more levels with a build you don't like.
And even if you don't have any Vetspecs, at level 10 you unlock the abilty to create a second build, so you could reselect all your powers from level one on that build and avoid the "mistake" you made at level 2.
My plans for 2xXP weekend don't include anything specific. I'll probably jump on to lots fo different toons throughout the weekend and get a few levels for each rather than trying to push one or two up eight or ten levels. If anything, I might concentrate on my Virtue heroes, or my Guardian villains since none of them are higher than 20 at the moment. -
Quote:But isn't that what Tanks do - crap damage compared to other ATs?Sure, but that doesn't stop you from doing crap damage compared to every other AT.
Thanks for the advice and positive reinforcement. I will definitely take a look at that FF guide since that's the set I'm having the most difficulty with deciding what to take. -
Going out of town Saturday for a friend's (two friends, actually - twins) 40th birthday party. Won't have access to a computer from about 10 AM Saturday until around 7 PM Sunday.
But, I'm taking half a day of vacation on Friday, so I'll get some play time in then anyway.
Not sure what toons I'm going to work on yet. -
I have come up with a concept that I am very fond of, and I have decided that out of all the heroic ATs and powerset combinations, the one that best fits this concept is a Force Field/Ice Blast defender. However, there are no guides for this combo, so I have to wonder -am I crazy for wanting to play this?
I know that as a FF/ defender, I will mostly be relegated to teams, but that's OK (although the fact that I am creating the toon on a lower population server may support the dementia theory), but if FF/Ice defenders have some inherent flaw that makes them harder or less desirable to play, or play with, could someone let me know what that flaw is, and the best way around it?
Thanks! -
A costume based on Alasdair's entry will be posted here no later than Sunday.
