With GR we'll be able to play villainous defenders and heroic corruptors, which makes me wonder - since these ATs share of the same powersets, just reversed with regard to primary/secondary, is one any more powerful than the other?
For example, I want to make a character with the Dual Pistols and Kinetics powersets. Would a DP/Kinetics Corruptor outperform a Kinetics/DP defender in any way, or would the Defender perform better?
Anyone have any thoughts or hard data? -
Just wondering how folks are going to use the free server transfer feature during 2xXP this weekend.
Are you planning to...
A. Transfer toons from low-population servers to Virtue/Freedom/Server-X for easier teaming opportunities?
B. Transfer toons from Virtue/Freedom/Server-X to avoid getting locked out?
C. Stay put where you are and hope for the best?
I mostly fall into category C myself. I have a lot of toons on Virtue that I want to play this weekend, but also a lot on Guardian that I can play if Virtue fills up. I may transfer one villain from Virtue to Guardian just in case, but that's about it. -
I was a little bummed that we lost too, but at least my team's center scored the game winner in OT.

Quote:I sure as heck hope not. Nothing against the folks who want to go to the concert, but a lot of us who are going to the Meet-n'-Greet couldn't even get tickets to the show on Saturday. And perhaps more selfishly, I've already bought a plane ticket for Saturday, so if this changes to say Friday night I'll be out a couple hundred dollars.will the Meet & Greet details be changing to accommodate concertgoers?
Uh-oh. I hope you're not on your way to Boston for this thinking it's tomorrow. -
There's a character I'm considering transfering from Guardian because I think he'd be more fun to roleplay on Virtue. However, I'd like to find a PPD-based SG on Virtue before I transfer him. He does not have mental powers however, if that matters.

Hope it's OK to show off a little in this thread. Here are a few of the pieces of original art I have hanging in my house:
Rough pencils of a Star Wars comic cover by Mark Schultz:
Water color painting of Death in front of the "family tomb" by Bo Hampton:
Cave Woman pencil sketch by Frank Cho:
Page of original comic art by Paul Smith from a comic book in which I appeared as a character:
Wolverine inked-sketch by the late Michael Turner:
I have a few other pieces framed and hanging, but no pictures of them. I also have an extensive collection of original art not currently on display, including close to 90 pieces featuring the Sandman character Death ranging from a tiny sketch by Katie Cook to a 2' x 3' painting by Jerry Vanderstelt.
I only have one physical piece of art featuring one of my CoX characters - a head sketch of Doctor Time that I got done at the NCSoft booth in San Diego in 2008. -
Quote:Yeah, they said on the forums that they didn't expect to post a schedule or a list of attendees until the first week of March at the earliest. When I said I thought that was really odd, they seemingly looked at me like I'd grown a third eye. Apparently east coast gamers are so ravenous for a gaming convention that they will trust the fates that it will be awesome.Oddly, PAX 3 daypasses sold out 2 weeks ago and there's still no schedule or exhibitor's listing.
Not that there's any reason it shouldn't be since PAX obviously has a historyt of putting on good conventions, I'm just one of those people who likes to see what's on the menu before I fork over a bunch of cash for dinner. -
Quote:No, since they aren't going to have a booth, and since, if they did have a booth I'd still have the option of going on Friday or Sunday, I'm not livid, but I am disappointed. I would like to see the panel discussion, but I'm not going to pay 150% of face value for a Saturday-only pass if that's all they are doing.
However, in what you will probably feel is a colossal waste of money, I am going to fly from Baltimore to Boston Saturday afternoon, go to the meet-n-greet, stay overnight, and fly home first thing Sunday morning. I guess the good news is that I'm not selfishly depriving someone who will really appreciate PAX in all its glory from going to the show on Saturday.
P.S.: The above snarcasm is intended in good humor. -
I have decided that I am going to fly up just for the Meet and Greet Saturday night, and then fly home Sunday morning. So I hope there are lots of things from Herocon for sale at the M-n-G. Hint. Hint.
I know the NCSoft employees will have limited capacity to bring stuff, but I would be really jazzed if someone could russle up one of the '09 Herocon T-shirts in a size Large that I could swap the never-worn size 2XL t-shirt I got in my non-attendee Goody Bag for some reason. I would be so extra grateful to the person who could do that, that I would buy their drinks for an hour.
As for anyone who wants to attend the con on Saturday to see the panel, head on over to the PAXEast forums: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/forumdisplay.php?f=26 There is a thread there for people who want to buy and sell their tickets. The going rate for a Saturday-only pass seems to be about $50-$60 and a 3-day pass about $100.
If I could have gotten a 1-Day pass for the original $35, I'd go to the con, but I'm not going to do that for $50+. It's a shame this isn't available for San Diego Comic-con, for which I really want a 4-day pass. -
Welcome to the game, and as others have said, don't be afraid to use your inspirations - they fall like raindrops in this game.
As for your power selection and origin selection, the other thing that hurts is that your low level melee powers have a secondary effect (according to the wiki) of being able to put your enemies to sleep, but Vahzilok zombies are immune to sleep and hold. So where you might hit another type of character and knock them out of the fight temporarily, you hit a zombie and they just hit you right back. Or puke on you.
Don't get discouraged - my first character was science origin too, so I know your pain. Problem was, my guy was a controller, so I had about 1/4 the damage and survivability, and yet I managed to have enough fun to still be here 2+ years later. -
Just checked this morning and I see that Saturday-only passes are now sold out in addition to three day passes. I suspect all passes will be sold out in a week or so.
I will be livid if NC waits until after all passes are sold out and then announces they're going to be there. -
Something similar happened to me a couple weeks ago. I wanted to transfer some Halloween salvage and Influence to a new toon and I asked someone in City Hall to help me in exchange for 500k. Not only did the person not take the 500k, they gave my new toon 1-million more inf than I had given them, which was greatly appreciated and very helpful with his frequent costume changes.

Put me in the category of "everyone else playing" when it comes to Hasten. Although frankly, I'd probably settle for them toning down the annoying sound effect, and doing away with the triggering of the sound effect altogether every time you zone.
"Hmmm, gotta get from FF to Atlas quick." Open Oro-portal, step through, "BWWWWWAAAAAAAP!!!!" Click on portal in Oro, step through, "BWWWWWAAAAAAAP!!!!" -
Primary question: If I copy the costume file folder from my home laptop to my work laptop, will I be able to access all the saved costumes when I fire up CoX on my work laptop?
Secondary question: Other than the size of your computer's hard drive, is there a limit to the number of costumes you can save in CoX? -
Yay for double XP weekend. So many things I want to do - level a hero on Virtue, level a villain on Guardian, play my 50s to get closer to the Infamy badges, and now play a dual pistols character.
Gah, I need a double XP week! -

Quote:I wasn't around when CoV launched, but they did a pre-order then that netted you access to an Arachnos helmet. They also had a CoV Collectors Edition DVD that got you an Arachnos chest/cape symbol. Does anyone remember if you could preorder the Collector's Edition back then, or if you wanted both the helmet and the symbol did you have to pay twice? From how I read it, it's either $30 or $40, but not both. You pay $10 extra, you get $10 of extra things, just like a Booster Pack. Makes sense from their normal pricing standpoint. Also, $30 makes sense for the pricing of an expansionn. Couldn't imagine paying $70 total for an expansion.
I'm also curious about the specificity of having access to the new powersets in March and April, and what happens come May. Are they talking about Beta testing for those sets in March and April? If not, why not just say, "...starting in March..."
Also, will Paragon Studios be at PAXEast??? -

Yep, she's doing fine. And that is a pretty incredible story. Fortunately I was able to trap Shadowcat shortly after I removed her kittens (I kept two, took one to the SPCA and one to another shelter, and I know at least one of those two was adopted). I took her to the SPCA where they spayed her and gave her shots. I would not have been able to put up with her having multiple litters. I've since been able to get her in to my vet once for follow up shots, but she does not like that one little bit.

I read your post this morning, and it sounds like it could be a fun group, but I'm already in the other RP Static group you mentioned, and I don't know if I could (or would want to) commit to two such groups every week.
We'd love to have you on the mutant team though. You could even be an outer-space mutant scientist if you want! -
A few of my favorite bios from toons I have on Guardian:
Count Gregor
When he awakened from a 300 year slumber, Knyaz Gregor Rostislavich found much had changed in the world. Humans had multiplied like rabbits to all corners of the globe; they had learned to cure dreadful diseases, they had mastered flight, and they had harnessed the power of the atom. It was this last accomplishment that most affected Rostislavich, for his ancestral home and resting place was near the Russian town of Chernobyl.
When he awakened, Rostislavich found that much had changed about himself as well. His vampiric body was no longer cold and pale, his skin had turned a handsome green and it now radiated warmth. He found too that his powers over darkness now included the power of the atom itself. Most surprisingly, he could now stand in direct sunlight without harm.
Rostislavich soon learned of a country called the United States and left for it immediately. When he made his presence known in Paragon City, he was dubbed "Count Gieger" by a clever young reporter, whom he later ate.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Valentine Black (A toon I made specifically to help heroes during the "Spring Fling" co-op missions.)
Most people assume that Valentina Blake's heart is as cold and dark as her skin, and 50 weeks of the year they are right. However, each February a change comes over her. Perhaps it is the spirit of St. Valentine, for whom she was named, or perhaps it is nature's impending emergence from the long sleep of winter, but for 14 days of the year Valentina Blake is able to wrest contol from the dark being who inhabits her soul.
During these two weeks, Valentine Black emerges from the shadows of the Rogue Isles to assist those who fight for justice and freedom. Each year Valentina is convinced that if she does sufficient good, she will remain in ascendance and become a hero herself, but every year she eventually, tragically, loses her fight and succumbs once more to darkness.

Mr. Piddles and Kelly
John Vincent found an abandoned litter of kittens behind the No. 2 reactor at Three Mile Island. On his way home from work he dropped three of them off at the SPCA but he kept the fourth one to give to his daughter Kelly on her 25th birthday. Kelly loved the little guy immediately. What no one knew was that this kitten was very special. He was a mutant blessed with genius-level human intelligence and vast mental powers.
Despite this, he had a hard time getting the hang of the litterbox, which lead to his unfortunate name. Still, he loved Kelly as much as she loved him. He loved her so much in fact that after she and her parents were killed on vacation in Paragon City when Babbage attacked the train they were on, Mr. Piddles used his mind powers to reanimate Kelly's corpse. Now they fight crime on the streets of Paragon City together!

Pittsburgh
Michael Kopco was born into a family of Pittsburgh steelworkers just as big steel was pulling out of Pittsburgh. But Mike was a smart kid and a good athlete, so he had no problem getting a football scholarship to Pitt. Mike graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering and was drafted in the 4th round by the Steelers. He played for the Steelers for three years, going to two Pro Bowls and Super Bowl XL, before tradgedy struck.
In September 2006, Mike's latent mutant powers manifested in a game against Paragon City, and he badly injured an opposing player. The NFL hid the true cause of the accident, but Mike knew he could never play football again. He scouted for the Steelers for a couple years before moving to Paragon City with his wife Mary Beth. He took the name "Pittsburgh" to honor his hometown. He can turn his body into solid steel, generate blast furnace-like temperatures, and he wields a mystical, indestructible sledgehammer given to him by a mysterious benefactor known only as "The Chief". -
I might be interested in this if you try it again, although if you start at 8 PM I'll probably pass on the first five or six TFs.

Gratz Saints! And Saints fans. I have nothing against manning or the Colts, but I'm pleased to see the Lombadri going to a team who wears black and gold again.
I was really hoping Garrett Hartley would somehow get the MVP award, but the way Brees played, he deserved it. -
There was 16.5" in the middle of my front yard, and a 31" high snow drift in my side yard today.
I rarely miss the winters yunz (my spelling) have back in western PA. I'm originally from Johnstown and remember one year when we got 26" of snow and my boss called to find out why I wasn't at work.
Funny story...
I take care of a little grey feral cat (because she's the mother of my inside cats). She isn't tame, and lives outside 100% of the time, but I was worried about her with this storm coming. My back porch is screened in and every winter I put plastic up over the screens. With space heaters running back there, it stays a comfy 45-55 degrees, eve if it's only 10 degrees outside.
So last night I trapped "Shadowcat" back there to keep her warm and safe. There is a kitty door in the one screen door, but I can lock it to prevent her from leaving, which I did. Normally she's OK sleeping back there in the evening, but leaves in the middle of the night if I don't lock her door.
This morning she was safe and warm, but very grumpy. I unlocked the little kitty door and pushed it open to show her it was blocked by a two foot high snow drift. I checked on her throughout the morning, and she was fine, but this afternoon I took a nap and when I went to check on her again an hour ago, she was gone. She had pushed open the unlocked kitty door and tunneled out! But I couldn't see anywhere that the tunnel emerged from the snow.
Fearing the worst I grabbed my shovel and went around the house to shovel out my patio. This is what I found:
My patio as it looked before I started shoveling:
The escape route discovered:
She couldn't have gotten too far:
Turns out she just tunneled under my tool shed, where she has nested in the past, including when she had the two kittens I adopted. She's probably the most resiliant little 8 pound cat in the world, so I'm guessing she is safe. Hopefully she'll come in on the porch again tonight when she gets hungry.
