Quote:Yeah, to me this isn't worth the hassle for something that is easily purchasable for $10.This isn't a giveaway, it's a contest. A pain in the backside contest that would end up being a stressful exercise in futility for me.
I don't know if NCSoft thinks we actually find these kind of "Throw a bone on the ground and let the dogs fight over it" contests fun, or what. Or maybe it's just a few indiviuals like me and Tenzhi who don't find them fun, and the majority of forum-goers love them. I just don't see why there can't just be a normal "enter your name and win at random" giveaway; maybe it's too much work, or maybe it's a legal issue.
Anyway, good luck to those who try. -
Am I the only one who can never see the pictures David posts?
Even copying/pasting the URL of the image into a new window doesn't work. -
I think it's similar to a suggestion that I made - a "portable" market interface that you could pull up anywhere, like the AE interface, or a portable crafting table - only limited to bases instead of portable.
I was basically told that I needed to plan what salvage I bought better and that running back and forth between WW and the University in Steel Canyon, or the BM and the University in Cap took no time at all so my suggestion was stupid and useless.
I'm paraphrasing, of course. -
OK, I was wrong and as I said, if I was wrong, I would accept it. I don't like it, but I'll accept it.
However, I would like confirmation on this...
Quote:The recent Dominator changes didn't touch the endurance cost of the powers. Why? The powers retained the same damage scale. The Dominators just got higher Damage AT mods. As such, the recharge and endurance costs stayed the same.
I could SWEAR the endurance costs, and possibly the recharge rates of some Dominator powers were increased when the damage modifier was increased. Maybe not across the board or even on all powersets, but certainly on some. Either that or there is something really worng with my lvl 50 dom who runs out of end MUCH quicker than she did when she did less damage. -
But see, to use the example of Combat Jumping, is CJ more effective for a Tanker than a Blaster because a Blaster has less inherent defense than a Tanker, or because the power itself applies a lower modifier to the Blaster than the Tanker?
If CJ applies the same Defense modifier to any AT who selects it, then I have no problem with it using the same amount of endurance regardless of the AT. But if it is less effective for Blasters because it only gives Blasters 56% of the defense bonus it gives Tankers, then yes, I think it should use less End.
And I'm talking about Pool Powers here, not AT powers. AT powers are balanced independantly of Pool Powers as I understand it. Tankers do less damage than Scrappers with the same attacks because Tankers have more defense and therefore don't have to kill things as fast. Defenders can use their AT powers debuff their enemies more effectively than blasters, and in some cases heal themselves - abilities which make up for their lower damage output; same is true of controllers.
So yeah, a Defender's energy blast may do less base damage than a Blaster's, but add in the resistance debuffs of Sonic Resonance or Radiation Emission, or the damage buffs from Kinetics, and you get a lot closer.
And do Defenders' weaker blasts really use the same amount of end as Blasters' more powerful ones? I've never looked at it, so you may be right, but I assumed from the recent Dominator changes that increasing the damage output of a power brought with it either an increase in end usage or a reduction in recharge, or both. -
Quote:Some of us "Pre-Purchased" the game electronically through the NCSoft website in order to get early access to the Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning powers. At the time that offer was announced, there were no preorder bonuses any of us were aware of.I mean I heard some people did some kind of pre-ordering that didn't count for the promotion through Gamestop (it was earlier in the thread). I'll check with Gamestop later today.
The Gamestop Pre-Order offer and associated bonuses were announced months after many people had already pre-purchased the game, and Pre-Purchasing the game through NCSoft is not considered the same as Pre-Ordering it through Gamestop, for obvious reasons, so those of us who pre-purchased would either have to purchase the game again, or do without the pre order bonus goodies. Not sure if that's what you meant or not.
As much as I am enjoying the Dual Pistols powerset, I think if I'd originally been given the choice to Pre-Purchase and get early access to the powers, or Pre-Order and get the bonus enhancements, I'd have chosen to pre-order. What has a lot of people upset is that they were never presented with that choice, so if they want the Pre Order goodies, they have to purchase the game a second time, like I did.
This could understandbly be viewed by the players as a money grab on NCSoft's part, but I'm not in a position to say whether it was, or if they honestly had no intention of doing Pre Order bonuses when the original announcement was made.
For my part, I was going to be buying the Complete Collection Add-On pack anyway, which is what... $9.99? So buying the Gamestop version will save me that money and I'll get a free month, which is another $15, so I look at it as paying $15 for the enhancement bonuses. Which still seems like a lot now that I think about it. -
Maybe there are game balance reasons why this is a bad idea, and I'm certainly prepared to be shot down on that basis, but my suggestion is...
Make endurance usage of powers in the Leadership Pool scale with the effetiveness of the power. That way my Blaster, who generates Assault and Tactics bonuses that are only 56% as effective as a Defender's bonuses, isn't sucking down end at the same rate as the Defender. The way it's set up now, it's basically a waste for a Blaster, Brute, Scrapper, Stalker, Tanker to take Leadership powers, and almost as useless for Dominators and Master Minds.
If the End usage already scales, I apologize, but I see nothing in Paragon Wiki that indicates it does. -
Yeah, I'm not planning to take a travel power, so it wasn't too difficult for me to justify taking the Leadership Pool, even though blasters get the least return on investment from the powers. It would be nice if end usage scaled with effectiveness in that pool.
Off to the suggestions forum! -
Quote:Better not be a common occurance. Shannon is liking the taste of leadship she's gotten these past few weeks, and you might have a coup on your hands when you return. The less said about my evening the better, sorry I was forced to miss it.
In fact, I respec'd Shannon this morning to add the leadship pool to her abilities. Now she has Assault and Tactics. As well as a slew more end problems. Gotta get to level 27 so she can slot some lvl 30 End Mod and End Redux IOs. -
I have an Ill/Emp controller, but she's only lvl 30.
And probably needs a respec because she did most of her levelling before I understood much about either power set. But that's another story. -
Some people want their gaming experience to be simple. They don't want to deal with the markets and timed missions and Fed-Exs and hunts, etc. They just want to long in and hack, slash or blast stuff into submission.
Are they missing a lot content? Yeah, probably, but as long as they are getting their money's worth and they keep paying that monthly fee, so be it. It can be annoying to team with someone in the 20-30 range that doesn't know some of the mechanics of the game that you or I find second nature, but 7 or 8 times out of 10, when I show someone something they didn't know they could do, the response I get is, "Cool!" or "Thanks, I didn't know you could do that."
But none of that is meant to rain on this thread. Funny PuG stories are fun to read, so hopefully we'll always have noobs to openly mock, and newbs to poke good-natured fun at. -
I don't know about the rest of you, but my Gamestop and EB have absolutely no advertising for ANY MMO, with the possible exception of WoW. If you walked in with no prior knowledge, nothing in the store would lead you to believe that games like CoH, CO, Aion, STO, et.c even existed, so it's not just a bias against or lack of marketing from CoH. I didn't even see anything on DCUO.
Also, who says DCUO's design or gameplay isn't going to suck too? Jim Lee is a fair artist, but to my knowledge he's no game designer. And just because you have comic book professionals writing stories it's no guarantee those stories are going to translate well to the MMO experience. Not to say DCUO isn't going to show up and eat CoH's lunch, but it could just as easily show up and be an annoying mess.
Hopefully I'll get to play around with it a little at SDCC next month. -
Quote:Just snagged Kilowasp on Virtue for my electric-powered stinging insect character. No idea why I didn't think of that ages ago. Probably because I was focused on bee-themed names. When creating characters like this I sometimes branch off with a backstory to find something to rhyme with. So, ideas.
Smitegiest
Fedora Borealis (actually the name of a former character but you can steal it)
The Blast Supper (name I gave to an ex before we broke up, PLEASE steal it)
Blast of the Mohicans
Babababloom (Plant/Energy Dominator? Not fit for your character but someone might like)
Farce of Nature
MC Squared (surely taken?)
Rebound Guy (i.e. as a reference to dating)
Violet Reaction
Kilowasp
Debt-o-Nation (also Debt o'Nation)
Knightroglycrine
Boogedy Blue (maybe an obscure reference to people under 25, but here's a hint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQfz5_b12O8 ) -
My questionis, what caused the imaginary friend to become real? If it was the girl's power making him more and more real over time then I would say he is a mutant because he evolved beyond the form of a simple illusion to become self aware and sentient.
Then again, as the (supposedly) only one of his kind, his is a new lifeform and therefore could not technically be a mutant since there is no other baseline lifeform to compare him to.
Lastly, if there was some scientific or mystical explanation for his coming into being when the girl died - e.g. a spark of her consciousness or soul imbued him with life, then his origin could relate to one of those.
I guess it's all in how you look at it, and I don't know enough about what you had in mind for his conversion to reality to say for sure.
Cool origin story though. Reminds me a little of Dragonberry's IIRC, but definitely not the same. -
Quote:Just did this last night, so I'm speaking from experience. Is the preorder active now? Last I heard, people were able to pre-purchase the pre-order (some goofy Gamestop garbage) that didn't count and they'd have to remember to switch it to pre-order. Is the difference whether you pay or not? How do I know if I go to Gamestop if I did it right?
Go to Gamestop; tell them you want to pre-order City of Heroes: Going Rogue; pay for it then, or just put a down payment of $5 on it.
That's it. You don't even have to worry about losing your receipt because they can reference your order based on your phone number.
As I undertstand it, when GR comes out and you go to pick up your copy, a code will be printed on your reciept. You enter that code into your account just like any of the upgrade or costume codes, and that's what unlocks the pre-order goodies for you.
ETA: I guess Gamestop is affiliated with Electronics Boutique, but I don't know if we've ever gotten word on whether you can preorder at EB and get the goodies. Anyone know? -
People say they want to skip the first twenty levels because they're a grind, so the Devs offer something that will make those levels less grindy and arguably more fun, and other people complain that the new shiny "expires" at level 20.
They aren't going to give away game-changing abilities or items as a pre-order perk. If those enhancements kept working throughout the life of the character, how do you think the people who didn't know about, or weren't able to preorder the game would feel?
And regarding them being all but worthless after level 20, maybe for THAT character, but you'll still get them on every other character you ever create on that account, so it's not like it's a One [Character] and Done kind of deal.
I love how people can find something to complain about even when it comes to FREE stuff. -
I really hope there is more they have not shown, or this has somehow been misinterpreted as the Mutant Pack.
I'll buy it regardless, which I guess is self defeating because if there aren't some new heads, arms, and/or legs that look more... mutated, I am going to be very disappointed. Probably more than I was that the Natural Pack didn't include back packs, quivers and scabbards. -
Just transferred a character to Champion so I can join in the fun.
(Since I always seem to miss these things on my home servers) -
No, it's not what you think. Although it may have been suggested before.
I'm about three weeks away from receiving my 30 month Vet rewards, which include signature group logos. I was wondering if there was any thought given to expanding this reward to include more groups - like 5th Column, Outcasts, Skulls, Hellions, etc?
Though I guess if such a change was instituted, I'd prefer it not be until after GR hits so we could get signature logos from those groups too. -
Sweet!
Thanks.
Anybody have a Karma KB protection or Kismet To Hit Bonus recipe they don't want?
j/k! -
I'm relaitively new to the world of Empathizing. I have Fortitude, and I see it takes defense sets. Since Fortitude is cast on other players, my questions are:
1) If I slot a Karma KB protection IO in Fortitude, do I get the KB protection, or does the recipent?
Similarly,
2) If I slot a Kismet "To Hit Bonus" IO in Fort., do I get the To Hit bonus, or does the recipient?
I think the answers are 1) I get the KB protection, and 2) the recipient gets the To Hit bonus, but I'm not sure.
Thanks! -
Well, we can scratch Wizard World Philly, which is this weekend, and probably Origins in Columbus, which is two weeks from now, off the list. Since Dragon*Con is the same weekend as PAX in Seattle, D*C is probably out too. That narrows the most likey sites/cons down a bit:
ConnectiCon: 7/9 - 7/11 Hartford, CT
Gen Con Indy: 8/5 - 8/8 Indianapolis, IN
Wizard World Chicago: 8/19 - 8/22 Chicago, IL
Dallas Comic Con: 8/28 - 8/29 Dallas, TX
New York Comic Con: 10/8 - 10/10 New York, NY
Necronomicon: 10/22 - 10/24 Tampa, FL
Wizard World Austin: 11/12 - 11/14 Austin TX -
Recently on Virtue I snagged Overdraft which I don't really have any plans for atm, but which would make a good Storm Controller.
Same server I snagged Wind-Up Doll, which I'm saving to use for a Kinetic Scrapper when GR arrives. -
Well, I rarely need healing, but if that's all it is, and I don't grow a fourth ear or anything, I guess it's OK.
-
By all means we want you back.
Wondering now what all this is about testing a prototype something on someone... Don't much like the idea of being an unwitting guinea pig...
