This would also be why you do not actually get into trouble, or receive any negative marks on your "record" for such violations, you simply get the character genericized.

Although NC does reserve the right to terminate your account for such violations in the ToS, yet on the support page they tell you that you wont get into any serious trouble.
Well, you'd still have to generic names like Supergrrl, Sue Pergirl, Tsoopergirl, etc. It's not like they leave the names Batman, Wolverine and Wonder Woman available just so they can generic them later.

There's also the costume violations - a person's charcter might be called Invincible Lass, but if she looks like Supergirl - bang, generic'ed.

Besides, I think showing that you are proactive by blocking names would look better in a court of law than showing that you react when someone has already violated a trademark.

I don't get why they don't automatically put generic'ed names on a blocked list anyway. In six plus years of this game's existence, I can't imagine you're the first person to try the name Super Girl.

I've had one name generic'ed, not for trademark reasons, but because it was, I guess, potentially offensive. Funny thing is, it's still available and I could rename that character with that name tomorrow if I wanted. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd almost see this as a form of entrapment.
  3. If there is already a thread showcasing the sketches David did at the 2010 San Diego Comic-con, I apologize. If not, allow me to begin by posting the sketch I was lucky enough to get of my Psi/Mental blaster on Guardian.

I give you, Mr. Piddles and Kelly:

Mr. Piddles, the cat, is the hero. Kelly, the girl, is just the reanimated corpse of his owner whom he couldn't bear to lose.

ETA: In real life the colors on this piece are MUCH more vibrant. The stupid scanner here at work scanned it as a pdf file though and I then had to convert it to a bmp. In the process it washed out the color in the image quite a bit.

Bah, this competition is dead to me.
  5. I'll probably move a few toons from red to blue, but certainly not all of them. I'll also probably move a toon or two the other way, but not as many.

  8. Sorry about the early exit last night, guys. Also sorry that I forgot I wouldn't automatically log out once inside a mission. I figured by entering the mish I could leach off of you guys until the game logged me out.

I realized it wouldn't while the window guy was giving me his sales pitch so when he started taking some measurements I went back to the game and saw you had to kick me from the team. No big deal on my part, just hope it wasn't too much of a pain for you.

I should be good to go for the full two hours next Tuesday.
  9. You know, I could swear I replied to RobertoLyon's question in this thread last week.

Is there a way to tell if one of your posts was deleted for some reason?
  10. Probably going to have to cut out early tonight. I am getting quotes to have some work done on my house and I have an appointment pretty much every night this week. Tonight's appointment is at 7:30, so if Shannon suddenly gets a craving for donuts and takes off in the middle of a mission, you'll know why.

So explain to me how having only one viewpoint, with no opposition or counterpoint on something creates balance. That would be like saying if you were the only one having this discussion there would be a balanced viewpoint on whether or not the EU was valid.

My take on it is that the Force was balanced at the beginning of the Original Trilogy, not at the end. As far as we know, there was Vader and the Emperor on the Dark Side and Obi-Wan and Yoda on the Light Side, and that was it. Anakin/Vader balanced the Force at 2 vs. 2. Just because his whiny kid came along and unblanced everything again by the end of RotJ, that doesn't invalidate Anakin fulfilling the prophecy.

The bigger problem I have with all this is the idiot Jedi in the Prequels...

"Let's see, Qui-Gon, there are 10,000 of us and roughly 0 Sith. You say this little kid is destined to bring balance to the Force. That means either 10,000 Sith Lords need to rise to power, or all of us need to be wiped out. Eh, what the hell, give it a shot - we're so friggin' powerful one measly Chose One isn't going to make any difference."

That first one was the only one I have missed, and from everything I've heard about it, I'm not sad that I did. The second and third ones were the most fun in my opinion, but that might just be because more of my friends went to those than the fourth one.

This one should be fun too though. I'm looking forward to the Disney party. I just wish I'd gotten one of the uber-expensive VIP tickets to the convention.

  16. Love those costumes - well done!

As for powersets, my first thought was a Broadsword/Super Reflexes Brute. But then I realized that combo doesn't exist, so what about a BS/SR Stalker?

Then when you reach the appropriate level, you can take Mace Mastery and select the Wolf Spider mace for your other symbolic weapon.

I'd offer to join you if you did this on Friday the 6th, but my only level appropriate villain is a Dominator and she doesn't have perma dom. Oh well.

  20. I call my characters "toons" when I don't feel like typing out the word "characters."

It has nothing to do with what that man in the Pluto suit did to me at Disney World when I was eight.

It's not that it kinda looks like a DBZ toon, it's the fact that when the video starts a little box pops up that says, "Vegeta from DBZ, in case you don't know who i'm trying to copy."
  22. I've been to three of these and they were all somewhat different, but the consistant thing was that there is only one official M'nG per convention. It would however be pretty easy to stalk Positron via his tweets.

    - The first M'nG I attended was in San Diego two years ago. For that one, you needed to get an invite from the folks at the NCSoft booth and could only get one if you were an active player, so for that one you had to have a ticket for the convention. It was held at a bar not far from the CC and they gave you two drink tickets upon entering. There were hors d'oveurs (sp?) available if I recall correctly. Mostly that one consisted of standing around and talking, at least at first. I was new to the game and knew noone, so I left after about 20-30 minutes. I guess later there was music and a lot of dancing. Maybe karoke?

    - The second one I went to was in Boston earlier this year. You didn't need a ticket to the convention, I think you just showed up. This one was held at a bar near Fenway Park, and I arrived very late to it, so I missed the appetizers, and I don't know whether there were any free drinks. There were pool tables (and maybe dart boards), but no dancing that I know of. The NCSoft folks had brought a lot of purchasable swag with them, which was sweet, and they also raffled off some very cool prizes.

    - Last Friday in San Diego was my third M'nG. This one you had to RSVP to in advance, and show up early to due to interest far outpacing room capacity. Again there was free food - appetizers again, but very good appetizers - but no free alcohol (soda and bottled water was free though). The team had set up computers and monitors around the room so folks could try out Nova Praetoria and get a taste of GR. There was no purchasable swag at this one, but they had brought exclusive T-shirts that you could win by playing mini-games announced via Twitter and Facebook. They again held a raffle - two in fact: one for prizes and one for folks who arrived in costume, three of whom won a sketch of themselves from David Nakayama. No dancing this time, but there was background music as usual.

Long story short: All three I went to were slightly different, and each one got to be more fun in my opinion (though I really wasn't at the one two years ago or the one in Boston long enough to really judge them fairly). I'm sure as we get closer to October, Avatea and/or Ocho will post more info on the NYC M'nG. I'm not sure about having to attend the convention - both PAXEast and this year's SDCC were sold out by the time the M'nGs were announced, so requiring folks to attend the cons to get into the M'nGs would have left a lot of people out. I think the NYCC is going to be a blast, and who knows, NCSoft might do a panel or have a booth, and that'd be two more reasons to get a ticket to the show.

On the topic of the Bat/tarps, if you want until August 17 you can roll one on Praetoria and exit in Paragon, pretty sure...so that may be an option.
See now I want a Mastermind with flying rodent minions and the ability to debuff enemies with large sheets of waterproofed cloth.
