Quote:No smacking of people who agree with me will be administered. I (along with, I'm sure many, many others) made a suggestion in the Suggestions forum a year or so ago for a Remote Market Access accolade. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I was told by other players that it was a dumb suggestion and an unnecessary waste of the Devs' time just to overcome my inherent laziness.Well I guess you're going to have to smack me then.
I don't technically have any problem with a "remote market access" power existing in the game in some form. I will just add my voice to many other people's who don't really like this being a post 7 year Vet award power, especially considering how often this particular kind of power has been specifically asked for over the years.
My main gripe about it is that we already had the precedent of other "remote access" powers being obtainable as Accolade powers. The Field Crafter badge grants the Portable Workbench power and the Mission Engineer badge grants the Architect Comlink power. Why couldn't there have been a new market accolade power made for this to match the others? There's no obvious reason why this new "access" power had to be gated behind a high-end Vet award other than it just being an arbitrary decision on the Devs' part.
I'll have this power in a few months so it's not that big a deal for me personally. I just continue to feel sorry for the folks who only have a few months or years into this game. *shrugs*
Well, now that the option exists, maybe the Devs will read the comments in this thread and come up with an accolade that will allow those of us with less than 7 years of play time to unlock this. After all, I doubt there are too many vets who would complain if they announced a future vet reward was a remote crafting station power similar to the one granted by the Field Crafter accolade. -

*For now. May go Rogue after I amass some Villain merits. -
In the description of Power Boost on the wiki, it says,
"Note: This power improves the strength of your Heals, Endurance drains and gifts, Runspeed powers, Flight powers, Defense buffs and debuffs, and ToHit buffs and debuffs, as well as the duration of your Sleep, Hold, Disorient, Immobilize, Fear, and Confuse status effects."
Does the boost effect affect Leadership powers? I assume it does, but I wanted to check. -

Things I appreciate as of this Friday:
∙ All the new content, systems, etc. that are being added to COH, and the new era of open communication with the Devs and Community team. For the first time in almost two years, I can't wait to get home and log into the game!
∙ By extension of the above, how awesome the playerbase of CoH is. I am endlessly amazed by how friendly and uninsular people here are. I've never played another MMO and missed at least 2-3 years of vet rewards because I was afraid to play this one, but boy am I glad I decided to give it a try.
∙ How much easier it was than I thought it would be to start eating better and exercising more. Haven't dropped many lbs yet, but I already feel much better than I did a month ago.
∙ My job. It's incredibly frustrating at times, but also incredibly rewarding. And while there is a lot of pressure, I can always find time to pop on the forums a few times a day and "de-stress." I must like it because last October, I completed my 21st year. Only nineteen more to go! -
With the advent of shards, I definitely want to do more raids with my only Guardian 50 - a scrapper. Thing is, I usually do Hami runs redside with a dom. So, while I know the raid basics, and have my redside role down pat, I need to learn the role of a melee toon role better, and definitely couldn't lead a team right away.

"But face it: Stan Lee created his first character (Destroyer) in 1941; since then, nearly every... costume and look has been claimed by comic book heroes and villains, with plenty of crossover."
Clearly they are not familiar with our costume creator. -
Quote:Then there was the fact that they couldn't use the term zombie, so Voodoo rituals in Marvel Comics created "zuvembies" instead. And who could forget the Maggia crime sydinicate that was absolutely nothing like the mafia in any way whatsoever? The requirements that the CCA imposed in the 1950s are not the same requirements that they imposed in the 1970s, which is when Marvel was finally able to publish TOMB OF DRACULA (prior to that, they had to use a 'living vampire', aka Morbius) and WEREWOLF BY NIGHT (instead of that scienfifically created lycanthrope "Man-Wolf"). So yes, the CCA tried to keep up with the times, in the same sense that Minimum Wage has kept up with Inflation.

OK, without going into too much detail, the name was reserved for an employee who is no longer with the company. I asked if it would ever be freed up since the name was not used for an in-game NPC, and the employee had left the company. I was told that it would not.
Ah well, never hurts to ask.
ETA: I don't have my list any more, but I believe I found yesterday that the name was in use by players on three servers and Not Available on the others. With the exception of Freedom, which I was unable to check since I have no characters on that server. -
If any of you would like me to look after your pets in the event of The Rapture, PM me your address, where you leave your hide-a-key, and any dietary restrictions.

Quote:They also don't give you the ability to quickly store some salvage and/or recipes, or snag some stored inspirations and/or enhancements in the middle of a mission, task force, etc.but what these solutions don't give you is the ability to bring up the AH interface in your base next to your salvage/IO storage and take care of business. ... I do hope that this means there will be base access to the AH in future. otherwise I am very jealous and feel extra silly for quitting for a year.
That is probably what I would use the /auctionhouse power for 90% of the time. -
I figured out what the problem was. Will share more info later.

OK, so I searched for a name on Guardian and it came up as "Already in use."
Then I popped over to Virtue and searched for the same name, and it came up, as "Unavailable."
Does that mean that at some point in the past the name was added to the Unavailable names list, but someone on Guardian was already using it at the time? And does it also mean that even if I convinced the user of the name on Guardian to free it up for me, that as soon as they let go of it, it would change to Unavailable status? -
Quote:I was one of the folks asking for that, or better yet, this exact power, and I was told (by other players) that it was a waste of the Devs time and that I wouldn't need it if I wasn't so lazy and/or disorganized. Not a 7 year vet, but does this mean such functionality can be added to bases, cause folks have been asking for that for a while.
An in-base connection to the auction houses I mean.
Seeing it as a Vet reward pretty much clinches for me that it'll never been an "Everyone" ability. -

Speilberg and Lucas in a movie meeting with Seth Rogan? Perhaps an Indiana Jones reboot is in the offing? If so, bring on the end of the world!

Quote:I believe conventional wisdom these days is to create slightly mixed teams. My understanding is that eac spawn has a chance to drop an Incarnate shard on anyone who is on a team that damages it. Mixed teams mean melee characters get a chance for drops from blue mitos, ranged characters get a chance for drops from yellow, etc.On Virtue, we try for a team of seven tanks/regen scrappers + one empath to hold yellow aggro and Hamidon aggro, although you can get away with four (one tank for Hamidon, and one for each pair of yellows). Blue spike is ideally at least one team of ranged attackers; if we can't muster that many, the raid takes down the greens before the blues. Yellow spike is at least one team of eight scrappers/brutes/stalkers/spare tanks. I'm not sure how many controllers/dominators/ice blasters are needed for the green phase.

Interesting. I was actually 13/14ths (now 13/15ths) of the way to Dimensional Warder already from helping other people run the arc, so I already had Siege, but that's good to know, thanks.

Last night I decided to knock out some old missions on one of my level 50s. So I started running missions from Maria Jenkins. The mission I had from her was to "Find the Broken Scanner," which is the first mission of her "A Hero's Hero" arc. This is the version of her arc from before Going Rogue came out.
I ran four missions of the arc before I realized it, and I'm guessing now I'm locked into the old version? Does anyone know if there are any disadvantages to running the old version versus the new version? I haven't compared them side-by-side. I know they added Mother Mayhem to the Dimensional Warder(?) badge, but she appears in the old arc, so that shouldn't be an issue. -
Once again the gift horse's mouth gets far more scrutiny that is warranted.
Considering we never got any Anniversary presents in the past, unless you count the badges, and the GM/AV spawns the past two years, I think this is an awesome gift.
Thanks, Paragon Studios! -
I still turn around and try to enter the exit when I get off the train at the wrong stop.

In reply to the original question and original post, yes, I love comic books.
- I've been reading comics since the mid 1970s.
- I currently have about 4,000 comic books, and would be closer to 10,000 if I hadn't sold most of my collection in the late '90s.
- I buy between 6 and 12 titles monthly.
- I typically attend 2-4 comic book conventions every year.
- Most of my CoX characters are classically comic-bookish, have comics-inspired names, and have bios recounting their origin story.
I was as surprised as you, PoisonPen when I found out how many players in game don't like/don't read comics. Over time I realized many came from other games, or were just interested in playing an MMO regardless of the genre. While I was a pen and paper D&D addict for the better part of three decades, I never found fantasy-based video games interesting.
As for people obsessing over shards, and merits and what have you, I don't find that to be mutually exclusive to enjoying being a superhero. I often "obsess" over those same things, but I mainly play the game to be a super powered hero or villain, and those things are just a means to an end.
It's probably already been said, but if you want roleplay, head over to Virtue. Not sure how many people you'll find who can tell you which issues of Amazing Spider-Man didn't carry the CCA seal, or what blue kryptonite does to Superman, but you're likely to find more people "being" superheroes than "playing" superheroes. -
Methinks it's time for Uatu to intervene.

Quote:Actually, the fourth line is "Down in the tunnels, trying to make it pay." Tunnels I assume means on a subway platform or something.I once knew a woman who, when Dire Straits' "Walk of Life" came on the radio, started going off about how demeaning to women the song is. I asked what she meant, and she said, "He talks about having a woman down in the dark, trying to make her pay." Her are the actual lyrics for that part of the song:
Here comes Johnny singing oldies, goldies,
Be bop a loo la baby what I say.
Here comes Johnny singing 'I Got A Woman'
down in the dark, trying to make it pay.
Do they air All In The Family reruns on Canadian TV? Saw an episode last night where Archie referred to African Americans as a synonym for rabbits that live in a rainforest environment.
