Quote:And at that point Gismo breathed a sign of relief.Captain Drew Hill found himself filling out his report on the Blue Shield’s excursion into Praetoria. He was troubled by the sights of the psychic mind readers on nearly every street corner. He was also troubled by the seemingly thuggish tactics used by many of the Praetorian police force. It was as though they were using their position of authority for personal power. It was as though that was somehow expected among them.
Drew began going through the data downloaded by the team’s leader, Shannon Callahan. From the information he found, it was clear that the Praetorian people were being carefully and completely oppressed. Emperor Cole has created a society that he rules by any means that he thinks is necessary. Resistance is met with brutality and brainwashing. The information also spoke about the psychics and how each one is pressed into service for the empire. They are all reduced to the level of a node in a large network, transferring information, sensing trouble and notifying the authorities of potential dangers. There was also a mention of the ongoing threat from people more dangerous than The Resistance, more dangerous than the Hamidon itself. Drew reasonably assumed that it was a reference to those of this world, called Primal Earth.
He hoped the information he was putting into the report would be enough to impress upon everyone that reads it that the Praetorian people, on the whole are not bad people. They are simply unaware of what’s going on with their leaders. Also, that Emperor Cole’s attacks are meant to garner him the same control over this world as he has on his. Drew summed up his thoughts by saying he felt that Emperor Cole’s campaign could potentially involve other dimensions as well. Cole may seek to gain limitless power. The results of such an outcome would be an unprecedented catastrophe.
As Drew put the finishing touches on his report, a woman cozies up behind him and places her arms around his shoulder. In a low, husky voice she whispers in his ear.
“How much longer do you plan on working on that report? Surely, there is something far more interesting you could be working on.”
She proceeds to nibble on the ear she whispered into.
Drew stops typing and takes his left hand and runs it through the woman’s silky, raven hair. -
Quote:I like those things too, but that's all stuff that could have been doled out over the course of a year's worth of free issues. They built a brand-spanking-new world with a rich history and storyline for Going Rogue and to waste it by limiting it forever to level 20 would be a crying shame. Now hand me a tissue.
And that's the beauty of the game - while I don't necessarily love Praetoria - I enjoy the mechanics that were introduced with Going Rogue - morality, side-switching, Rogues/Vigilantes - in my eyes, it was a success.
Please note, this response isn't meant as an attack - I simply had an extra helping of ZING! this morning. -
Quote:It might not have been designed that way, but what is wrong with expanding it to 50 and in doing so allowing you to become more of a cog in Cole's machine, or a thorn in his side, rather than just a refugee to a world where no one trusts you anyway? That's not the way GR was designed - it was 1-20, with 20 being the exit to the main part of the game - the whole GR storyline ramps up to the escape from Praetoria, when it become obvious how evil Tyrant and his dictatorship is.
Lord Recluse is pretty freaking evil, so what, if you're of a villainous bent, you flee from one evil dictator to whom you'd begun to ingratiate yourself, and start all over with another one? What sense does that make?
And it makes even less sense if you're a member of the resistance. If you hate Cole and want to bring him down, why would you run off to Primal Earth just as you're coming into your powers? So you could chase down purse snatchers?
Going Rogue will definitely go down as a failure in my eyes if the Praetorian storyline isn't expanded to 50. -
And clearly I need to pay better attention to what I'm getting. Thanks everyone.

Quote:That would be off the hook, if they could pull that off without Lag Monsters looming throughout Paragon and Isles. It would be great break from the Trial grind and a new use for the League Tool.[QUOTE
But an 'invasion vanguard' of sorts between..
Rularuu - similiar to when they first appeared for us.
Rikti - cause.. they are always screwing around trying to gain more footholds.
And sadly Praetorians - cause they are the current focus group right now.
But if 'event invasions' could be happening featuring all three at once?...
...Although a new mini-trial or two would be a pleasant surprise as well.[/QUOTE]
Oh my goodness, can you imagine how many players would rage quit over not being able to run a Numina TF if this occured. It would be ArMaygheddon! -
Independence Day - I forgot about that one.
To me Independence Day is the theatrical equivalent of that infommercial for the Magic Bullet mixer where all the steroetyped characters sit around a kitchen counter while their British(Aussie?) friend and his... wife(girlfriend? American cousin?) make them everything from nachos to chicken salad sandwiches to virgin margaritas in exchange for listening to a 30 minute sales pitch. I just can't look away. -
Quote:We do. Otherwise Ray Lewis would've probably done jail time and Michael Vick would've gotten a slap on the wrist. Dogs, at least pet dogs, like children, largely rely on us for their survival and in return give us nearly unconditional love and trust. Violating that trust is seen as a much bigger deal than violence against a human being with whom you're having an arguement. If aliens were to land on our planet today and watch this show they'd have to conclude that we consider violence against canines more taboo than violence against other human beings.
That's not to say that if push came to shove someone wouldn't sacrifice their pet in favor of a loved one.
I enjoyed the second episode easily as much as the first and am looking forward to/hoping for a long run for this show. -
This is probably a dumb question, with a fairly obvious answer, but what the heck, I'll ask anyway.
If I'm level 50 and I'm explarred to say lvl 30 for a task/strike force, at what level will recipes drop for me? Sometimes it seems like I get level 30 recipes and sometimes I seem to get level 50.
The wiki says recipes drop based on the true level of the enemy while exemplarred, but I could swear I've gotten level 50 common IO recipes when doing the Sister Psyche TF with a lvl 50 character.
Is the wiki wrong? Are recipe drops based on the true level of the PC and/or the maximum level of the recipe? -
Agreed. When I got the Rep badge blueside, I think I got one sweet drop in the two weeks it took to get the badge. Not that I'd complain if I lucked into one of those 3-billion inf recipes, but I mainly just want to get the badge out of the way redside without having to sit bored for two hours a night for two straight weeks.

Aw, I'm disappointed there won't be any Giant Monster Rampages or Hero/Villain invasions like the last two years, but I'm guessing the increased incidents of lag and/or server crashes are preventing this? Is it possible the game has become too popular for its own good?
The good news is, since it looks like there no reason to take Thursday off, that mysterious tickle in my throat suddenly feels a lot better! -

I just don't understand how you can AFK farm PVP recipies.
And I know it's probably against the rules to tell me, but if you can farm the recipies, can you also farm the badges? Because I still need the 400 rep badge redside and it is a pain to get the regular way. -
Quote:Not to mention the fact that we already have one of those - the Pocket D VIP Pass takes you to within a few yards of Trina.I don't mean a teleport to the tailor, as that would have the benefits of transportation as well as costume changing.
And please, do NOT make extra costume slots a Vet reward unless they are retroactively rewarded for every 18 months or two years of Vet status. -
MaestroMavius already listed two of mine:
Adventures in Babysitting - which isn't a bad movie, but I still feel guilty for liking it.
and
(The Matthew Broderick) Godzilla - which I had finally convinced myself I was the only person in the world who liked it. Well, I liked the first half when it was more Cloverfield, and less Jurassic Park.
Other Guilty Pleasures (not necessarily because they are bad) include:
Flashdance
Tremors
Breakfast Club
The 1970s version of King Kong
Undercover Brother -
I am sorely tempted by this since static teams seem to be my best bet for quickly leveling new ATs. I'm hesitant about committing to a third static team, but Sunday at noon is pretty much an unbeatable time for me (at least until football season starts, if it starts, at which point I'd be out any week my team plays at 1 PM).
elvnsword, can you tell me/us a little more about the idea behind, or theme of, the team? Since we're starting in Praetoria, is it assumed everyone is a Praetorian? If so, would you prefer mostly loyalists or resist...ors(?) You mentioned going blue side - other than the obvious need to go blue at lvl 20, what would be the justification for going to Primal Earth?
If these questions too indepth for the "light RP" style you had in mind, just let me know.
I have three characters I could potentially roll with - a tank, a stalker, or a corruptor -depending on your answers. -
Dude, have you played Chutes and Ladders since they updated it for modern kids?
The lava pools, and "Broken Rung" cards make that game a LOT harder than it used to be. Plus, now if you roll doubles on two consecutive rolls you're attacked by a Plague Pigeon and have to go back to the start! -
OK, thanks all. I should've thought to take a screenshot, but it just came to mind at work this morning. I'll take one and post it the next time I see them.
They seem to have just started showing up after GR was released (or at least that's ehen I started noticing them), and as I recall they mainly, if not only, seem to appear in warehouse maps. -
No idea on the physical quality of the books. These are all runs I bought month-by-month as they were released, so I never even looked at the collected editions.
-
I really enjoyed most of Peter David's run on the Hulk, and John Byrne's run on FF was some of his best work, as well as some of the best FF stories, IMO. That said, I don't know if either can truely go toe-to-toe with what Simonson did on Thor.
-
I enjoyed the first episode enough that I may have to renew my HBO subscription when it runs out that the end of May.
I've never read any of the books, but I might want to. I think someone mentioned there are four of them? Does anyone know if they are planning to adapt one book per season? I don't want to start reading them until I know I won't read spoilers. -
They made some of the enemy defeat badges and the accomplishment (or is it achievement? I always get those mixed up) badges easier to get, and that was done on purpose, so I don't see any big deal with it.
Then again, I don't have any of the old school "Master of" badges, so maybe I'm biased the other way. -
When Going Rogue first came out, I was running some missions in Praetoria and one of them was to rescue someone from the Destroyers. I ran down a hallway and got blown up. I rezzed, ran down another hallway and got blown up again. It was then that I started to notice what looked like boobytrap trip wires strung across the map. I started jumping over them and I was fine from then on.
I thought that was a cool new feature the Devs had snuck in, but over time I began to suspect I was wrong. First I noticed "Proximity Bombs" in another mission that just blew up when you got too close, and then I realized I was seeing these "trip wires" in Primal Earth missions.
So does anyone know what these are? Is anyone else even seeing them? -
