Wow, I never realized the significance of that until just now. Brilliant. Also, the name Bob Loblaw has to be one of the best names in the history of television.

Swap the ratio of bacon to beef - then it would be epic.

Yeah, I just started reading the first book and it was weird reading in the book Bran is only 7, Sansa 11, Dany 13, Jon 14 and Ned... 35? Not sure about anyone else's ages yet.

As for the child actors aging more quickly... there is no good sense of time in the show anyway. We heard that it took a month for the king to ride to Winterfell from Kings Landing, but since then it seems like everyone zips to and fro at the drop of a hat. I guess it's possible to imagine close to a year has passed on the show since it started while the actors probably only aged... what? A month or two?

I had very low expectations for this movie and it sounds like they were well founded. My epectations of the movie were formed by Ryan Reynolds' reading of the GL oath in the trailers. It was fine until the end when he growl/screams, "Green Lanterns' LIGHT!!!"

    Bleh.

Still might take in a matinee in a few weeks.
  5. Is there a way to opt out of the Helper/Help Me tags after you've selected one?

I picked Helper on a couple of my characters partly out of novelty and partly in case someone needed help, but I really don't like it anymore. I would think there is a way to opt out, otherwise someone who genuinely needed help as a new player would still be stuck with that tag four years down the line.
  6. Oh, another series I thought was great, though I'm not sure if it was released on DVD - Chris Elliott's "Get A Life."

I haven't seen it in years, but I thought it was hilarious back in the late '80s(?) when it originally aired.
  7. As I understand it, the "7 Years" Gold titles are set to expire on the game's 8th Anniversary.

    j/k

Gold titles typically last for 30 days or some designated expiration date, whichever comes first.
  8. More than anything else this seems like a good jumping off point for me regarding several DC titles I've been meaning to drop but haven't.

Why does Beast have messed up feet? In the comics his feet were bigger than normal for sure, but they looked human, only larger.

In the movie they felt the need to make them look beastial.
I think they made that change so they'd have an excuse to, forgive the pun, shoehorn in the blue furry transformation. The beastial feet were the reason Hank felt like an outcast and the reason he wanted to change his appearance.

In the comics it was several years before the accident that turned him blue and furry occured, but I guess the producers/director wanted it in this movie... to generate visual interest? to make the otherwise largely normal looking kids more mutanty? Probably the former, which is probably also the reason that Emma Frost was able to access her diamond form in the movie decades before anyone thought of giving it to her in the comics.

See, I was under the impression he had gotten knocked out and missed the whole battle. All Bronn said when Tyrion woke up was, "You're a lousy warrior." (Cleaned up for a PG audience.)

    Great episode all around!
OK. I ordered the collection of the first four books from Amazon for some summer reading , and I just want to make sure I don't spoil myself on future episodes/seasons.

I thought it was a fantastic episode, as usual. I was kind of surprised by Ned's fate. At dinner on Saturday night I had told I friend I didn't think they'd kill Ned since he seemed to be the main protagonist of the series. But as last night's episode went on, and Rob got his victory against Jamie Lannister, I realized Ned's fate was sealed. By the end I was just hoping he'd blurt out something about Joffery's true parentage, but oh well.

I wonder if anyone will be upset by the their method of skipping the giant, likely very expensive to film, battle scenes. I was a little disappointed, but I got over it quickly.

As for Alex Summer being so much older (and in fact just plain older) than Scott isn't that big of a worry, as to the reason they did it...they needed new mutants to use.
If you go down this path then you can just make up anything. They could have a genetic researcher of Scottish descent in a future X-Men film and call her Moira McTaggart, and just go, "Oh no, that was a just coincindence that the FBI agent in First Class was named Moira McTaggert."

They needed different mutants, sure, but why pick one that so thoroughly screws up continuity? You want a mutant with power blasts? How about Sunfire? We haven't seen him in any X-movies yet so throwing him in First Class doesn't affect anything.
  13. So, does it appear that the end of the first season will coincide with the end of the first book?

In the comics, the explanation for his powers is that he can control electromagnetic energy, and what comes most easily for him is magnetic fields. But he's been shown to be able to manipulate almost any electromagnetic energy in at least certain ways. This theoretically allows for immense power and ability, limited only by control. If Magneto was simply projecting magnetic fields to do what he's shown doing, he'd affect every magnetic object between him and his target, and probably within the surrounding area.

Controlling electromagnetic fields could allow him to manipulate even normally non-magnetic objects with electromagnetic fields. It would allow him to levitate himself even though his own body is not magnetic, as he does near the end of First Class. It may even be that Xavier was foreshadowing this potential when he said in First Class that if Magneto learned control, he would have access to a power no one would ever match.
I don't worry too much about the idea of his magnetic fields affecting all the metal around him, like physics say they would because then I'd have to think about why Cyclops optic blasts defy Newton's first law rather than sending him flying backward every time he fires them.

It's just that Magneto's always been the "Master of Magnetism" as I undertsand it, and he even has "magnet" in his name, so I expect his powers to work on ferrous metals, not all metals (and yes, the dental fillings were the other thing that bothered me). I haven't read my copy of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe in years, or ever read the newer versions, so if there's been some update to his powers that allow him to control all metal, that's cool, I just hadn't heard about it.
  15. I'm a Penguins fan, so I stopped watching hockey after the Pens lost to the Bolts in the first round, but if I had my arm twisted to pick a team I'd want to win, I'll go with the Canucks.

Incidentally, I'm also a Pirates fan so I stopped watching baseball... around 2002.

    Bring on the NFL.
  16. My only gripe with the film was the depiction of Eric's powers. I could swear there were times when he was shown manipulating non-ferrous metals, most notably the brass bed frame he uses to subdue Emma. Is it really that hard to understand how magnets work?

If the drug mutates Caesar and the other apes he exposes to it, then they could pass the effect on to their offspring genetically and not need the drug after the first generation.

Save my loved ones, no question about it. Human life is more valuable than money.
  19. In an effort to lead a somewhat less sedentary lifestyle, I'm going to take a break from regular static teaming over the summer.

That doesn't mean I'm abandoning Shannon, just that my participation on Tuesday nights will be much more random after 6/21 so that I don't have an excuse to sit inside those nights. But, if I get a real hankering to play, or it's pouring rain outside, or I just need the stress relief, I'll show up. Hope that's cool with everyone.

Also, I'm sure I'll still be on at random other times throughout the week/end if anyone wants to team and run some missions or a TF or something.
  20. My recommendations (in no particular order):

    -Arrested Development
    -Newsradio (the Phil Hartman years)
    -Scrubs (the first few seasons)
    -Archer
    -It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
    -All in the Family
    -Futurama
    -The Wonder Years
-Freaks and Geeks (more a "dramedy" than straight up comedy, but very funny and full of '80s pop culture references)
    -Curb Your Enthusiasm
-Flight of the Conchords (I think this is considered American despite starting two New Zealanders)
  21. Good to see the 'Burgh getting some love from Hollywood again. I know they had priced themselves out if the market to the point where films set in Pittsburgh weren't't even being filmed there (like Land of the Dead).
  22. Did I hear right - Joffery wants to name Tyrion to be the Hand of the King? Or did he say Tywin? Either way, where's that leave Jamie? I thought he aspired to that title.
