U2's The Edge was born 50 years ago today as well.

Just so you know, there's a thread in the Screenshots forum dedicated to exactly this type of request.

Can you no longer purchase the shirts with the Arachnos or Statesman symbols on them?

Quote:So if I understand you correctly, you're saying that somewhere in our universe there is a planet that is 100% identical to the Earth? I know the universe is unimaginably immense but to me that sounds like utter nonsense. And I don't say that to insult you, just to stress how completely impossible I find that notion to be.Just light speed travel, yeah not likely, but like I said, go far enough and that could be facilitated by any number of means, you could get a planet that is exactly the same as earth down to it's history and the people involved, but if it's just light travel to a close by planet then yeah that's not very likely at all, but that's why in those types of situations it's easy to use something more realistic for people that are sticklers for that type of thing.

Quote:I know this could derail the discussion of the current movie, but huh?Did not know that... and actually that's not far fetched at all. Assuming a worm hole or anomaly of some sort sent the astronauts far enough, a world that follows the course of earth is 100% likely.
Maybe I didn't give enough facts. The astronauts in the novel travelled 350 light years in a near-lightspeed ship to a planet they named Soror. This planet was populated by intelligent apes who had subjegated human beings. Not human-like beings, human beings; the protagonist is able to mate and procreate with one of the Soror humans.
At the end of the novel, the astronaut, and I think his pregnant wife, hop back in the spaceship and high-tail it back to Earth. Due to it being a 700 light year round trip (thanks to time dialation they only age about two years each way), they arrive on Earth 700 years after the astronaut originally left to find that the humans on Earth have also been subjugated by intelligent apes.
There's no wormholes, and no time travel, just two planets 350 light years apart that are, for all intensive porpoises, identical. You can't tell me that scientifcally that is 100% likely.
(and yes, I know it's intents and purposes) -
Please let it be V-ger, please let it be V-ger, please let it be V-ger.
Kidding! -
Don't know if you're (general you, not specific) aware of this or not, but the ending of the 2001 remake was a nod to the ending of the Pierre Boulle novel that the whole franchise was based on. In the book
A) the planet of the apes (Soror) was a different world, but one that paralleled Earth's development, and
B) the "Taylor" character in the book returned to Earth to find that 700 years had passed and the humans on Earth had made the same mistakes as the humans on Soror, and apes had become the dominate species on Earth too.
Granted, the idea of two planets hundreds of light years apart developing identical intelligent lifeforms and experiencing similar historical events is pretty goofy these days, but in the context of the book it at least made more sense. The movie made it seem like some one had travelled to Earth's distant past and replaced humans with apes and it was more confusing than anything else. -
1) I'm hoping to work on my Elec/Storm corruptor. He's currently lvl 32 and painful to level solo. I'd like to get him to at least lvl 38 or 40.
2) I'll probably run a bunch of Tip missions or do some teaming with my level 50 badge characters with Prestige shut off in an attempt to make significant progress on the Inf badges.
3) I have a level-pacted character concept that would obviously benefit greatly from 2xXP so I'll probably spend some time playing them as well. -
Aren't we in trouble if the magentosphere shuts off anyway? Isn't that what keeps out a lot of the dangerous radiation from the sun?

Quote:I've been on the forums almost daily for over 3-1/2 years and I don't recall ever hearing/reading about Stan and Lou. And since I can't access youtube from work, I still don't know who they are.Not really surprising - certainly used to be the case that most players didn't read the forums, and I'd be surprised if 100% of the players who read the forums had all read posts about Stan & Lou...
Nice to see them mentioned again for the newer players and those who missed them the first time. -
Probably a dumb question, but...
If you buy more character slots for a server from the Paragon Market, can you immediately make characters in those slots, or are you just buying "potential slots," but you still have to pay to unlock them? Like we now have 36 potential slots, but we have to pay to unlock 24 of them. -
Pretty cool, but I'm certain my proclivity for motion sickness would rule me out.

Quote:Yeah, there are some really obvious choices on there, like War of the Worlds, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Time Machine, Stranger in a Strange Land, etc. I found myself voting more for fantasy works than SF works, and other than LotR, I also found myself voting for less likely candidates.I hate these things....you know why? The top 10 or so will be current or relatively current works. It is impossible to have the perspective to actually vote on these things.
I remember seeing a listing by Billboard for Top 100 songs of all time back in 1975.....you know what was number 1? Kung-Fu Fighting. Where would you rank it on a list now?
--Frog
I wasn't trying to skew the results, but I was voting for things I had read and which I thought were quite good. I think the fact that they are passing this by a "panel of experts" will ensure that something like the Kung-Fu Fighting example doesn't happen this time around.
And I don't know where I'd rank KFF on a list of the top however many songs of all time today, but you have to remember, in 1975 there were only like 1000 songs total.

It'll be interesting to see which of these ideas (killing PP or rebooting the entire DCU) falls flat on its face first.
I for one will not be picking up the new USM #1, and that means I'm pretty much done with the Ultimate universe as a whole. -

I don't know if anyone has ever organized a FF league on Virtue, but I thought I'd ask, and if an owner was needed, I'd offer to join.
If there aren't any FF leagues now, I could look into forming one if there is interest. I'm only in my 3rd year of playing FF though, so I'd prefer to join an existing league, or defer to someone else as Commissioner of a new league.
What do you think?
(Hope this isn't against any rules) -

While I think the JWST is great, I would have to say if there was only one space-related project that got funding, my vote would go towards the search for, and tracking of, Near Earth Objects.

Saw the movie and enjoyed it quite a bit.
Couple questions - Didn't we get a glimpse of a certain red, white and blue shield in Tony Stark's lab in the first Iron Man movie? I guess that was a prototype or something.
Also, is Marvel not allowed to use the term adamantium in their movies because of Fox owning the rights to the X-Men and Wolverine franchises? 'Cause I could swear Cap's shield is a unique, irreproducable alloy of adamantium and vibranium, not pure vibranium.
Hmmm, maybe that's what the shield is in Tony's lab - a subsequent alloyed version that contains adamantium. -
It was stolen at the San Diego Zoo, not Comic-Con. It would be next to impossible for anyone to steal 205 pages of original artwork at Comic-Con.
I'm curious if he just had it laying in the back seat of the car where anyone could see it. If not, it would either mean he was the victim of a random car break-in, or someone knew who he was and suspected what he had in the car. -

Hopefully these will be offered again after this weekend. I'm at SDCC (sitting in the CoH panel now), and FB won't let me log into my account from my smartphone.

Quote:The only way to avoid anything that is "too crowded" at SDCC is to not go to SDCC.I would also minimize shaking hands, as that's a common way to pick up germs. And avoid panels or parties that are too crowded.
Someone just posted on another website that the line has already started for Thursday morning's Twilight panel. -
Quote:You know, it might not have anythig to do with the cons. The post I quoted brings a few of possibilities to mind:I don't have any health conditions that I know of. Last physical I got, which was about 2 months ago gave me a clean bill of health, doc didn't find anything wrong. Past conventions were Dragon Con in Atlanta, GA and like clockwork I've gotten sick during the days that I'm there. It happens either in the middle or near the end of the convention days. It feels like a 24 hour bug, the symptoms are coughing, alot of it, a runny nose, and a very upset stomach, thankfully no headaches. It goes away after one or two days. I just want to avoid this happening to me while I'm at Comic Con.
1) You may have picked something up on the way to the convention, particularly if you flew. Airplanes are excellent germ incubators due to the fact that the air is recirculated throughout the cabin during flight. If you're flying, make sure you stay hydrated on the plane as dried-out mucus membranes are more susceptible to viruses.
2) Hotel and/or convention center A/C. Air-conditioning can make people sick if they are not used to it, or if it is too strong. If you're staying in a hotel room, make sure you don't set your A/C too low at night as again, this can dry out oyour sinuses and make you more susceptible to catching something. It can also lead to a scratchy throat and/or cough.
3) Weather. I am a generally healthy person, but exposure to drastic changes in weather can affect me in ways similar to what you describe above. I live in the northeast, but I have to travel to the south on business occasionally, and the oppressive heat and humidity, probably coupled with the intense air-conditioning, almost always results in me feeling ill.
