  1. Why did/does it annoy you, Paladiamors?
  2. Definitely a shocker - much more unexpected than the reveal on The Walking Dead.

This series just gets more and more intriguing as it goes. Has anyone seen any ratings numbers for it?
  3. Several more for you to consider...

Heavy Metal (based on an illustrated magazine, does that count?)
    Sheena (1984)
    Red Sonja (1985)
    Brenda Starr (1992)
Crumb (1994 - not technically based on a comic book, but rather the artist Robert Crumb)
    Timecop (1994)
    Virus (1999)
    Monkeybone (2001)
American Splendor (which someone already mentioned - 2003)
    Persepolis (2007)
    White Out (2009)
    Surrogates (2009)
    The Losers (2010)
    Red (2010)
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2011)
  4. I'm in for tonight, but will have to leave at 8 PM ET in order to make it to my buddy's place in time for the Steelers-Browns kickoff.

My new character will be waiting for the others at the submarine on Sharkhead Island.

  6. Somewhere in the Rogue Isles a cell phone rings.

A woman sets a box of Crunch 'n Munch on the coffee table in small, but well-appointed apartment. She pauses the movie she's watching, licks her fingers and picks up the phone. She answers without looking at the number.

    "Yo!"

Hearing the voice on the other end she sits up and in a careful, measured voice she replies, "Oh, um, hello. Sorry. I didn't know it was you."

For the next few minutes she sits listening, nodding to herself and jotting notes on a small pad. Finally she carefully recites, "Thursday the eighth at seven PM. Meet them at the Sub in Sharkhead. Got it. Don't worry boss, I'll show them a good time! Oh, by the way how many..." The woman stops short as she hears the caller disconnect.

Looking at the phone for a moment, she shrugs indifferently, tosses the phone on the coffee table causing a young bearded dragon to scurry sideways. "Sorry, buddy," she apologizes to the lizard before hitting "Play" on the remote control. She digs bag into the box of sugary snacks and puts her feet up as Angelina Jolie shoots yet another nameless antagonist dead.
  7. "The Rogue Isles?" the petite blonde asked, incredulous.

"That's what they said," Kip replied, frowning as he poked at the burrito on his plate with a fork.

"No," Missy stated flatly, placing her own utensils on the table more forcefully than necessary, for emphasis.

    "No?" Kip asked.

    "No," She replied.

    "No... what?"

"No, you are not going to the Rogue Isles."

"You don't want me to go?"

    "You do?"

"I... I don't know," Kip sighed, finally putting down his fork and pushing the plate of Mexican food away from him. "I mean, it would be taking the fight to the source, but..."

"But it would be too dangerous!" Missy half-pleaded, dropping her voice when she saw other students turning to look.

"It's not so much that; it's dangerous here in the City too. It's just... the teams methods, they're..." Kip's voice trailed off as he sat flexing his fingers, his razor-sharp claws extending and retracting almost involuntarily.

"They're what?" Missy asked, placing her hand on Kip's to calm him.

"They're more... brutal than I thought."

    "Brutal? What do you mean?"

Kip merely looked at her knowingly.

    "Y-you mean they...?"

    Kip nodded.

"Oh my god, Kip!" Missy gasped pulling her hand back and covering her mouth in horror. "You... you haven't...?"

"No, absolutely not! I swear." Kip declared immediately.

"Then that's it, you've got to sever your ties with them."

Kip sighed, "I know. You're right, I know. I'll call Mr. Gold later on."

The two sat in silence, lost in their own thoughts for a few moments.

Finally, Missy broke the silence, "Kip, I know you're disappointed, but, well, maybe you can find another team. Didn't you say this guy has other superheroes working for him?"

"Yeah, but they are all like way more experienced than me."

"Well... maybe you could be their mascot or something," Missy teased.

"Hey that's mean," Kip replied feigning offense.

"Aw, I'm sorry," Missy pouted, smiling, "How about later I get you a nice ball of yarn to bat around?"

Kip laughed, "I'd rather curl up in your lap and have you scratch my belly."

"I think that could be arranged," the blonde said winking, as both teens dug back into their food.

Yeah, I skipped this contest altogether because the theme was so wide open. The winners have nice costumes, and congrats to them for the wins, but I too am at a loss to figure out what most of them were thankful for, unless it was the various costume packs.
  9. I guess it's dumb to ask whether signing up for this will net us 7 or 14 tokens up front, huh?
  10. In light of the last two posts, is the idea that next Tuesday's theme - St. Nick - means that folks should show up dressed as some version of Santa rather than in just a random Christmas-themed costume that may be more appropriate in a different contest later in the month?

Ack, sorry about that. When you mentioned getting the collected edition of the first 48 issues (I think that was you), I assumed you'd read most or all of it. The incident at hand occurs in probably about the 27th or 28th issue, but I can't put my finger on exactly which since I too am reading collected editions.

((I don't consider that a spolier since I can't see them doing that in the show.))

One other difference between the comicbook and the TV show - in the comicbook when Rick wants to teach Carl how to shoot a gun, Lori states that Carl is, "only seven years old," whereas in the show he is obviously older than that. Comicbook Sophia appears to be about the same age as comicbook Carl.

ETA: IIRC, Hershel in the TV show has at least one daughter around Carl's age who could fill in for Sophia in the future.

    Just a few thoughts...

On the subject of pacing differences between the comics and the show, I can think of two reasons:

    1) The comicbooks are published monthly (as far as I know). As a result, something exciting has to happen in every issue to keep readers coming back. In a universe where the Walking Dead comicbook spent half a year's worth of issues dealing with the search for one little girl there would be no Walking Dead TV show because the book wouldn't have lasted more than about 12 or 16 issues. With a TV show, you only have to wait a week for the next episode, and even then the slow pace of this season had a lot of people complaining and probably cost the show a fair number of viewers.

    2) The comicbook doesn't have to worry about a special effects budget, so something exciting can happen every issue. You can show a hundred walkers attacking people five times in an issue of the comicbook, but if you have five zombie hoards an episode in the show, you're going to go way over budget, so it's necessary to draw things out with character development and non-action sequences.

On the subject of the safety of the farm - from what we've seen, the farm is in an area of wide open rolling hills and woodlands, and the number of nearby zombies is very small. In such an environment, gunfire, even sustained gunfire like we saw in the last episode, would be rather hard to pin down from a significant distance due to echos and such. Zombies, not being shown to be very smart, would probably perk up at the initial sound, and a half dozen or so that might be nearby might figure out where it came from, but I really doubt they would arrive in any significant numbers. As I said before, I'd be more concerned bout drawing the attention of other survivors.

Regarding the logic behind kicking out Rick's group - in the comicbook it made more sense because the seasons actually changed and it was winter, and Herschel hadn't stored enough food to feed that many more people over the winter. In the show, it appears that despite talking about winter, it's going to remain perpetually summer, so the possibility of a food shortage doesn't seem as imminent. However, didn't Hershel say that there were other farms nearby that Rick's group could move to? It's not like he was telling them to hit the road and hope for the best, just move next door and stop eating all my damn food.
  15. I enjoyed the group, the RP and, of course, my character, but committing to two regular teams a week just feels too much like work to me.

Right now I'm going to concentrate on the Thursday night Gold Corp team. Hope everyone understands.

    Lusca Attacks

I love the little girl at the end who is like, "OK, are we done filming the stupid octopus walking on land? I wanna take a picture now!"

While that may be true in "reality," it's still poor storytelling, at least in my opinion. To drag a plot point out this long and dangle clues like the bed in the closet and the doll in the creek and then just abandon it altogether - I just can't imagine them not giving the viewers some kind of closure.

    The Walking Dead

I think the whole Sophia plot was a mistake. I haven't read the comics, but I picked up the first two hard backs (first 24 issues, I believe) yesterday. Wish I'd known about that compendium, it probably would've been cheaper. Anyway, as I understand it there is no Sophia plot, and maybe no Sophia at all, in the comics, so they invented that as a reason to keep them at the farm, and it was clearly a miscalculation based on most fan-reaction I read about it.

I just hope this doesn't become a forumla for their "seasons" - one good set-up episode, 3-4 fillers and then one good pay-off episode. That was bad enough with Lost when they were doing 22 episode seasons, but when you only have 6-12? You shouldn't have any shortage of material to fill it with. Or are they worried about getting ahead of the comics? I don't know what issue the comics are on now but the guy at the comicbook store mentioned that it was roughly one issue per episode, give-or-take.
  19. I'll be having Thanksgiving dinner with friends, so GitG is out for this week. Sorry.
  20. Earlier in the series I thought Tate was the rubber man, but now I can't remember if we saw the two of them together in a scene a few episodes ago.
  21. Guess we can start running tips tonight then!
  22. Yeah, I'd eat one of those. But only one.

In honor of the impending Thanksgiving holiday...

Turkey hot dog with cranberry mustard.
  23. I highly recommend Firebase Zulu. They are more plentiful there than they are in PI, and the respawn MUCH faster.

Ok, I usually avoid spoilers, but you people are driving me crazy with the redacted this, and the speculation that.

Would someone mind sending me a PM to explain what you're talking about? Thanks!

Thanks for the PM, Dark One.
