(and, on a side note, does anybody remember that one-shot City Of Heroes comic that came before even the Blue King run? It may have only been a downloadable (as separate PDF pages, if I remember correctly!) comic. It had the new hero showing up on the tram, and waltzing into a Trial zone, and Statesman eventually joined in and they did one of those multiple bomb disarming missions? I rather liked it.

Well, the idea I was working on was based on pencilling and inking is a lot of work for a monthly.

So how about Jomaro pencilling, Tim inking, Graver on colors? And Doug Shuler doing the covers in Poser/Photoshop!

I think some of you, while not completely wrong, are quite harsh.

The first serie was good . It was nice to see the storie focus on secondary characters. The art was good too but what I liked the most about it was that is was consistent, it stayed on the same level through out the 12 issue ru.

The new serie started out good too. It gave us a better idea of who were the big guys in the CoH universe. As far as the storie goes my main problem is that it has becomefocussed on one character (Manticore) who I do not relate to. As far as art is concerned it started well but contrary to the first serie it keeps fluctuating from issue to isssue (and even sometime within an issue). The last issue I read (#14) was the worse. To my amateurish eye the inking is the worse part of it . The colors themselves look good, The lettering is standard. The writing is no better or worse thant the issue just before and the art itself does not (again to my eye) have major problems. The inking however looks to say the least , rushed. I personaly like crisp well defined inks that give value to the pencils underneat. This inking they did does exactly the reverse. It just makes everything look flat.

I do hope that 15 is better

Well, to my more educated eye, the inking was atrocious It was like the inker was trying a rough kind of style but without the strong lighting that makes the work of others who use that style effective. I don't necessarily need crisp lines, but I do need the inker to have an idea of where the light is coming from in the panel.

The pencils weren't bad, but not as good as what had been seen before in the book. A lot of the compositions were really understated. Which I guess I can see for part of the book, since there was a lot of talking head action, but overall I wasn't digging it.

I liked Brandon's work on the Blue King comics, but, to be brutally honest, I've liked a lot of the CoH commissions he's done since then a lot more. It makes me wonder about how tight the deadlines are in the comic book world. I've never attempted to do something on a schedule like that.

You know what would rock? If Brandon found an inker to collaborate with...someone really good at inking, like, you know, Jomaro.... and put together some sample pages for Top Cow....

Blue King's I was a big fan of too >.<; I enjoyed it because it really fit in with what we, the heroes, were doing in the game.

I did like some of the earlier Top Cow stuff too - I enjoyed the whole BAB arc, especially when he caught up to Protean; and of course the Cyrus Thompson bit was excellent.

Just not thrilled with the current state of affairs - but then I hope it really is Filler >.> if the Ninja is correct /hope

Hmm... I think you've got a good start here - but; my personal suggestion would be to take this pose - keep it mostly the same, and start over, refining it in another attempt. I think what you've got here is quite good - but some things look distorted (the hands, arms, and sword particularly strike me).

That's not saying you *have* to start over >.<;; I'm merely suggesting it as perhaps a better way to use what you learned from getting this far. I think you've got a great idea going; but it needs fine-tuning that I know I personally would find impossible to do at this stage in a work.

Take that all of course with a huge grain of salt - I'm not the sort who's good at editting >.<

To give some specific criticisms:

The right shoulder (Her left) looks too big, the sword is too curved (far more curved even than most scimitars - katana have very shallow curves to them), the left breast (her right) seems a bit too low (I may be wrong in that, its merely from my PoV)

Those are the main things I see.

I *really* like the basic idea here though, I think the skirt is pretty cool, and your pose is great; just needs some refining. >.< I hope this helped <;_;> all intended to help!

I hear ya Gill; I stopped reading shortly after Protean was killed - it was good up till just a bit after that but I lost interest - first in the writing, then I tried to pick it back up but the art was /groanworthy <X.x>
