Welcome to CoH/V.
I would suggest making an alt on both English speaking servers (Defiant and Union) play for a week or two on both then you should get an idea which suits you best.
My home is Defiant we have a smaller population then Union (managed to stop myself calling it Onion) but we are running events most nights and we are very friendly.
As has been said Defiant Events EU is the channel to be on. -

The Player Event Resource Committee would sincerely like to thank everyone who competed in Mr. and Ms. Paragon Universe. The Server winners were each asked to complete a demo-record of their powers, character text, concept, etc. which the judges watched together. The effort put in by each server winner was just amazing. It was beyond difficult to name a winner! We met on December 3rd to acknowledge their effort and announce the winners.

Glad you done it. I'll keep Sundays clear now (except the 18th Dec, It's my birthday, not saying how old but we have to warn the fire brigade before lighting the candles on the cake) -
