Quote:I'm not kicking your kitten. I'm just informing you that DPS isn't the specific strength of your beloved primary. Its strengths lie elsewhere.
(sigh)
When you say "DPS" you actually mean SINGLE TARGET DPS.
The "DPS" you guys are all trumpeting is NOT the only freakin' kind of damage there is. AOE does way, way more of the total damage done.
All those silly pylon solo numbers are only for single target, in a narrowly focused test that has next to zero applicability to ANYTHING we do in the game. Almost the ONLY place single target DPS means crap-all is in mothership and hami raids. And only barely for motherships.
Stop having such a narrow focus in what you say, and maybe people will stop hearing what you're saying. -
Oh yeah, claw/inv.
Mine is 50, setted up, and my fastest slayer on +2x8 by a wide margin.
Followup/focus/spin until nothing is left but bosses, then wittle them down with mah pathetic ST damages, on to next spawn.
It is...nice.
Be warned though, invuln is a tough slog to level, but holy moly, is it worth it once you get there.
If you want an easer ride up, /wp is way easier and plenty tough, at the expense of no aggro aura at all. -
Quote:No worries!
Thanks again for the help guys.
Quote:I tweaked a few things and have what I think I'm going to roll with. Some of it may be a huge mistake, but IMO it's a mistake I have to make since I'm headed into uncharted territory for me. Regardless I think this character will be a heck of a lot better than she is right now.
OMG, you have no idea how much awesome is packed into this little package.
Quote:Main changes are:
- I ended up slotting Blazing Aura with Multi Strike for some extra endurance recovery.
Quote:- Changed slotting on Fire Blast to frankenslot to open slots elsewhere. Tried several combos, ended up with 4 Thunderstrikes to preserve some global Accuracy, which has steadily been dropping from build to build.
Quote:- Changed Parry slotting to add a damage IO, but kept the Hami-Os there, particularly the Accuracy / Defense Debuff. This HO actually both increases Defense Debuff and increases +Defense, in this case grantiing an extra +4 defense. -
-
Quote:Hmm, Claws/Fire... Sounds interesting. I'm going to have a play around on Mids and see what I can come up with.
It's....crazy.
Permastacked focus on top of fiery embrace means spin and blazing aura are just doing insane things, and followup adds ranged knockdown while healing flames is popping back up like, all the time.
The boards have been so enamored of shields for so long, I suspect the REAL damage machines have been completely missed.
Which is another reason why I started looking over 'The Magnificent 76' to see what has been neglected. -
Quote:I hear you. Thanks for the compliments. To put this in Controller terms though, I just want to make sure that before I make the investment that I'm not working with the Scrapper equivalent of a Gravity Controller.
...
....
...there IS no scrapper equivalent of a Grav troller. -
Quote:...maybe?I have a lvl 50 Kat/Regn and looking for a good build to work off exp not an issue. can any help out.
Is your build hopelessly outdated and you're looking for help with the ED caps using only SO's? If your toon dates from the early i1-i4 era, you're desperately poor and terribly slotted.
If so, go to the AE icon on the map in Atlas and run easy arcs at minimum levels to get tickets: level 53 SO's cost 8 tickets each.
Only slot two or at most three of each kind, since the enhancement diversification kills the fourth and higher ones completely.
If you're newer than that, then just start reading the forums, there's lots of guides to kat/regen, even though it plays COMPLETELY differently now than it did at release.
These days, willpower is what regen was.
Have fun, and welcome back! -
Quote:That is assuming that Kinetic melee goes with Shields
I have yet to see the Devs say it will go with Shields and looking at the video it is using two hands a stuff and looks like it would be a problem if pair with Shields.
...ok.
Since I am an optimist, and believe in the business acumen of the Devs, let's just assume that it works with Shields. SD is very popular and a very fun set, I can't think of any reason to disallow the shiny new melee set from the crowd favorite.
Making that (hopefully safe) assumption, how many of those 76 flavors of scrappers do you see around? Are there any that are disproportionately common? Any that are exceptionally rare?
If so, why so?
Here's a common one: I have not seen a fighting pool-free scrapper in ages. Does that mean the fighting pool is too good for scrappers? Do the less taken pools (like presence) need a boost for scrappers?
How about some of the odder combos out there, like claws/fire? I don't remember ever seeing a claw/fire scrapper, and yet that combo should be RIDICULOUS for damage.
Why aren't they out there more?
Just curious, is all. -
Quote:I guess for now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Castle buffs Fire Aura. Even if it doesn't become more survivable, a version of Burn that doesn't completely suck would be great, and fit the character well. I actually have Ring of Fire + Burn in my current build simply because the idea of Joan lighting someone on fire is so silly.
I think a great fix for Fiery Aura would be along the following lines:
Fiery Embrace boosts all damage by 100 percent. (ZOMG NERF!)
Fiery Embrace lasts for 30 seconds.
Fiery Embrace recharges in 90 seconds.
Fiery Embrace adds 5 percent resist vs all while it's on.
Fiery Embrace adds 3 percent defense vs all while it's on.
Fiery Embrace adds 20 percent hp regen while it's on.
Fiery Embrace can now slot resist, defense, and healing sets. (Frankenslot FTW!)
Tada! Done!
Now THAT's a power worth slogging to level 35 to get!
With modest recharge you can have it up two thirds of the time, with serious recharge you can perma that sucka, with crazy recharge you get brief, glorious moments of double stacked FE. Blazing Aura is now DANGEROUS, which is as it should be.
Suddenly FA is the undisputed damage champ, and gets just enough added defense to make it zesty. FA as a set would now LOVE the recharge, mmmhmm, which would also make it synergize even better with all the recharge-hungry attack sets out there.
What's not to love?
Just my two cents. -
I was poking about in mids, and got to wondering:
How many "flavors" of scrappers are there?
I mean, how many primary/secondary combo's are there if we include the new Kinetic melee(KM)?
I thinkered around a bit, and assuming I can do math (not a good assumption) I came up with 76 different combos.
Here's a list:
Code:DA Elec FA Inv Regen SD SR WP BS 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Claws 1 1 1 1 1 x 1 1 DM 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 DB 1 1 1 1 1 x 1 1 EM 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 FM 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Kat 1 1 1 1 1 x 1 1 KM 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 MA 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Spines 1 1 1 1 1 x 1 1
Adding in power pools and epic pools raises that number to...ridiculous levels. In the thousands at a minimum, assuming we skip "bad" combos like "concealment/presence/leadership/medicine/darkness".
So here's my question: How many flavors of scrappers, out of the 76 basic combos and the 'work well' pools, are widely played?
Why do you think that is?
Is there any imbalance here? -
Quote:Yeah was tryin to stay away from fire/....guess I shouldve said that. Just because I had a fire./fire tank for SOO long got bored with it.
I might spec something see what I come up with
Then try elec/shield.
It's a terrible fotm, but there's a reason for that.
For something COMPLETELY different, look at claws/inv. AOE damage second to none, though the ST is not as strong, and inv with proper clotting is, well, invulnerable. -
I do not play blasters very much, but recently on Infinity we decided to have an all-blaster ITF race between various chat channels. The League of Debt, the pinks, and Architect Entertainment Anonymous all fielded one or more teams.
All four teams that tried were able to complete the ITF with nothing but blasters, and the winning team ripped through it like a hot poker in a snowbank:
Yep, 32:55, with only 14 deaths.
Has anyone else ever done an all-blaster ITF faster? If so, I'd be impressed! -
Congrats to all who played and had fun! AEA did send a team, and they successfully finished the all-blaster ITF, which is in itself quite a feat! Congrats!
The Pinks and the League 2 teams were in a neck-and-neck race, and finally finished barely a few minutes apart. Good work, guys! The League2 team edged the Pinks, but it was a hard-fought race!
The best overall time was posted by the mighty League1 team! Amazingly enough, that team of all blaster 'squishies' smashed through the Imperious task Force in the astonishing time of 32:55, and did it with only 14 defeats along the way.
Wow! Impressive work guys! How are we going to keep up our "League of Debt" mantra with thoese hinds of pergormances?
Many thanks to nightbabe for organizing the fun event, and many more thanks to the hard-playing heroes of Infinity for turning out in such great numbers to make this all happen.
Here's the screenshot of the winning team:
Congrats, guys! -
Tex, dude, that toon is AWESOME.
She wants to speak to the President, omg! I'd much rather have a toon like this one than a dozen generic "fotm" ultra-builds with names like 'Electric McShieldy'.
Come on, we've all seen them.
Play what you like, man. For a bs/fire/pyre, that second build would serve admirably as a long-term goal. Stick on teams, and let the buffers have their fun by keeping you alive. As a teaming scrapper, with fiery embrace and all that ranged damage, she would kick some serious butt, too. And heck, she IS a scrapper, she'd solo like a machine, too.
In no way, shape, or form is ANY toon you enjoy a waste, ever, in any way.Your fun is YOUR FUN.
LOL, Joan of Arkansas, that is AWESOME!
EDIT: Darn it Fury, stop being so fast!
The version of the build he posted would also serve well. And yes, would be fairly inexpensive, which would be perfect considering she used to work at Walmart. LOL, she's got all Walmart IO's, that's HILARIOUS. And while not as awesome as it might be, it'd still be WAY zestier than nothing but SO's.
-
Quote:I ran up a SS/wp brute as a sort of 'poor mans' SS scrapper. LUV IT. The only downside is chasing that stupid fury bar, freakin' thing makes me crazy.This. The only reason I want it for Scrapper is so we don't get this monthly argument. I would play it and I don't need it I have my SS/SD Brute and with GR if I want I can bring him Hero side so I don't really need SS for a Scrapper.
First toon that coming blueside. -
Why yes it is.
What is the recharge time of all of those powers, and how much damage would they do over the course of, say, 300 seconds, assuming you fire each of them as soon as possible, every time, against their maximum number of targets? (Just to keep things simple a bit.)
More importantly, is it okay to do more damage less often?
The current case with Shield Charge is...probably not a valid one, except to show that even a severely OP power isn't so out-of-line that the Dev's notice it immediately -
My advice would be to take Conserve Power, Weave, and Physical Perfection. Put at least a performance shifter proc in both Stamina and Physical Perfection. It makes a huge difference.
For the last power....maybe Hasten, maybe Manuevers for a change of pace, or maybe energy torrent for the whole "EM' thing.
Also, you have a lot of attacks, maybe cut down by one or two when you respec.
There are lots of good inv slotting guides. Energy Melee... it's been a long time since I played one, so I'll defer to folks with more recent experience. -
Man, another one of these?
Ok, mace vs axe is more complicated than just damage. On a pure damage numbers basis, axe is slightly ahead. To balance that mace gets better AOE from crowd control.
But, axe has MUCH better secondary effects especially in it's lower level attacks. Axe has 40 to 50 percent chance for knockdown, minimum, while mace does 10 to 20 percent chance for stuns.
In higher level attacks, mace catches up a lot, but you throw the low level 'bread and butter' attacks a LOT. The better secondary effects add up fast.
Also, axe has only one secondary effect: Knockdown. It tends to stack up nicely. You can often fire two, three, four attacks in a row, and 'jugggle' a bad guy, keeping him pinned helpless. Mace does not get that sort of chaining effect very often, in my experience. If you do, it's usually stuns, and the guy wanders away from you. I HATE chasing victims.
On pure damage, counting AOE's, mace is ahead a smidge. On mitigation, axe is quite a bit stronger (although mace is far from weak!).
For doing a brutes job, both are excellent tools. Mace matures a bit later, axe is solid from the get-go.
Note: Both are weapon sets, and so get a 5 percent accuracy boost. It's like getting a free Kismet! Come on, that's a big deal!
Now, one oddity: Cleave in axe has a ten target max: I firmly believe this is a typo, or simply an error. I suspect pendulum should have ten targets max (why not? It's EXACTLY the same arc as crowd control and does less mtigation to boot) and the change got put on cleave in error.
Give Pendulum it's higher target max, Dev's! -
Quote:No, the real problem with "better animations" is that they would completely miss Mauk's recommendation and give us Asian-themed moves because for some totally messed up reason people think Europeans don't know how to sword fight. Or they think that only Asian swords are cool. Or whatever.
....yeah.
Given what we've seen of the new scrapper melee sets, with their rather crazy-looking "gathering chi" animations, and the 100 percent 'Gun-Kata!' animations of the dual pistols set, I guess I sadly have to agree.
Which is full of suck, because Lichtenaur moves are freakin' BADASS.
Here, check this guys videos out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFq4n...eature=related
That's a static demo of Ochs. There's a TON more, and they would look TEH COOL.
-
Quote:OMGAWD!I keep making Broadsword, but I just find the animations boring, so I can never stick with it. Now, if they could give alternate animations that look fancier, I'd probably be all over Broadsword.
So true.
And it's not like there's any shortage of sword styles out there. I'd freakin' love to have and Errol Flynn style set of BS animations, and even more I'd LOVE to have a set of Lichtenauer moves!
OMG, the possibilities! Schielhau, vom Tag, Ochs, Alber, the Mordenhau, Unterhau, or a Halbschwert animation! Have all five of the Master Stroke animations available for Headsplitter!
Please Devs! BS sux, give us better animations! -
Quote:It gives your team mates an incentive to snuggle. Which adds to your phalanx fighting. Is there a reason why I don't see many people with Grant Cover?
I do team with my SD scrapper and Brute. However, I don't see this power taken often. Any other insights other than it "doesn't help me"?
It does give some resistance to def debuff and recharge debuff to the user and team.
It lets you buff a struggling tank, or even a squishy.
It's a handy power. Shame it's hard to fit in. -
Quote:(sigh)I never see posts about BS or see them in game anymore unless it's for concept?
Does BS suck now or what?
I want to make a BS/SD scrapper and use the Ruurlrurrrluurruurl, or whatever its called, weapons and shield....for concept of course. However, I don't want to make a character that is now inept.
BS by itself is a very good primary. It has an excellent mix of single target and AOE. It also does notable levels of defense debuff, which means that you will add considerable utility on leveling teams. All BS scrappers are mild scraptrollers, with all the bonuses that brings.
More importantly, it does notable levels of burst damage, which is more effective damage against 'soft' targets than many sets. Fire, for example, puts out HUGE damage, but a lot of its output is in DOT's. I find myself wasting a lot of damage on fire toons.
Versus katana, BS has somewhat lower single target sustained DPS once you get a crap-ton of recharge, but that's not the whole story.
BS can take shield defense. Suck it, katana! Muahahaha!
Yes, /sd is slated for the nerfbat at some point, but AAO has raised no concerns I am aware of. With Against All Odds saturated and buildup, Broadsword excels at pounding out big numbers, RIGHT NOW.
Which is fun.
Indeed, DS/sd go together so well it's hard to believe they were designed so many years apart. It is a top-notch combo.
You will not be "inept" due to any shortcoming in the toon, I promise you. -
Quote:Dude.... Punctuation. Seriously.well to answer what my experience is with melee at all i have a 28 stalker dual blade/ninja and i love it. i did abit of reading on the faq's about invul only so don't know much about the other secondaries but it seemed decent enough i didn't wanna drain end on alot of secondary powers since thats kind of the little down side to my stalker if i use ninja reflexs & sense danger i tend to dump end quick fighting alot of stuff. so anyway i wanted to try and make a scrapper that could do some solo tanking if i wanted to take on a bunch of guys with no real fear of dying lol and if your wondering about my focus on elements its because two of my best toons actually do lethal damage and i wanted to try something else if your wondering i have a 42 dp/dev and my db/nin stalker. and what little i read about the basics to dark which i thought was nice is it lowers the enemies accuracy and electric drains some end so if fire is just alot of damage with some damage over time and no midigation is it really the best choice ? lol
That said, of your preferences, I'd recommend an Elec/Inv scrap.
Elec has nice tools (Thunderstrike and Lightning Rod are both awesome), while Invuln will thrive in the crowds you will want for your AOE heavy primary to chew up.
The abundant knockdown in Elec will help a TON with Invuln's early squishiness, too. As a pro-tip, I'd recommend Air Superiority as a pool pick, for a quick single target that adds yet more knockdown to the party. You Will Like It.
Once you get Invincibility and Dull Pain well-slotted, that combo will rock your socks off.
Go have fun! -
Hay, Dechs and anybody else who may have it:
Are there any builds out there for a dark/dark tank? It seems to me that (on paper at least) a Dark/Dark should be among the toughest builds possible in the current mechanics, but I can't seem to get the hang of it. Any guides? -
Quote:Gangsters don't use axes so that's out (I can get shovel on Mace). Dual Blades, although a cool set, doesn't fit my character concept. It's between SS and Mace. SS is cool, but it is conceptually just "punching". Hurl is also out of concept too kinda. Gangsters are good at intimidation, and a baseball bat, sledgehammer and pipe wrench all fit quite nicely I think
I think we have a winner!
-MT
Great character concept! Inv/WM is a rock-tastic combo, with some work, you'll be one of the toughest guys out there. Some tips:
Read the Inv guides for soft-capping! It helps a lot.
Max your Dull Pain, recharge, then heal.
Three cytoskeletons in Invincibility is hard to argue with.
While optional, I'd recommend picking either stun or knockdown as your "secondary effect of choice." Knockup goes with knockdown, btw.
I feel that Whirling Mace is...not so good, except for gauntlet. Crowd control is beyond awesome, so it balances out.
Have fun, you've got the bones of a great build there.
