Okay.....
Seriously?
You slot Boxing with the Stun Purple set, and don't slot Parry at all?
Seriously?!
My advice: Yank those Amazements, quit chasing recharge with sets, and slot Parry with at least five slots. I'd frankenslot the 7.5, a Kismet 6, and three Mako's.
Then get recharge back with the Alpha.
The toon will be MUCH more durable that way. Remember kids, 45 percent isn't REALLY a cap at all, and the new content is demanding more and more. BS/sd is one of the few builds able to reach those lofty pinnacles by itself, why cripple it? -
Look at a Multistrike instead. Damage aura's are VERY end heavy: Multistrikes are perfect for them.
-
Hm, lemme see if this works:
Excellent!
And yes, I agree, bs/sd can make some seriously cool toons -
Quote:Energy Torrent does knockdown, not knockback, unless the foes are vulnerable to knockback or lower level.Thank you Pine for that excellent post. It was a very well thought out and constructive post that I enjoyed reading.
I'm not a big fan of knock-back on this toon that's why I chose blaze mastery over body.
Quote:What alpha slot enhancement would you choose? I'm all set on defense and recharge isn't that important on this build, that leaves damage and endurance. Thoughts and opinions? Although, I'd build several and try them out, it's not like shards are hard to come by.

Quote:Hmmmm....Iggy is always on the mark.
Looked at that, but I would lose AoE potential as well...no Fireball or Dark cones.
Between the Dark cones and RttC, I don't get hit much anyways.
Been working at this idea for a while (using the Dark cones) and with the Incarnate end mod, I can spam my attacks pretty endlessly thus far.
This is why I do not want to lose any Global recharge if I can help it. I am trying to turn my MA into a decent AoE machine.
Maybe look at the mu pool? Saves a power pick, but loses you some -tohit.
Although I've never noticed my ma/wp being especially delicate..... -
Quote:So last year on my main badger Mouse Police, I got all of the ski speed badges save the 50 second gold slolom one. I tried over and over. I could not stay on the track with superspeed, but with ninja run + sprint I'd hit 51 seconds, 52 seconds, 53 seconds... never 50 seconds. I just wasn't fast enough.
So this year I thought, "Hey, I've got a third build. Why not make a Ski build?
I worked out a build that had 2% run increase x 5, 3% run speed increase x5, 4% run inscrease x 5, 5% run increase x5, 6% run increase x 4, and 7.5% run speed increase x 5.I five-slotted sprint! I two-slotted three of my prestige sprints! I three-slotted my inherent fitness powers with run and jump IOs! I had combat jumping five-slotted, I had two travel powers... it was a strange build.
Along the way I spent a lot of money (I can be a buy it nao type when I'm working on a project like this!). I figured I can pull everything out and sell it again later if I really wanted to. I had a lot of candy canes saved up, and bought a lot of the Winter universal IO recipes. Used some, tossed the rest into my base to wait half a year.
I needed 6 generic run IOs. I noticed that level 50 generic run IOs were going for as much as 1 million each, with virtually none for sale. Well, I have all my recipe memorization badges, and common salvage is dirt cheap again, so why not craft them myself?
Crafting wass around 165,000 each I think. I crafted a ton of them and put them up for sale. Low level marketing, but very easy and quick! I sold quite a few from 600,000 to 1 million each over the weekend. ^_^ Not that I've come close to making back the money I spent, but I find that if I'm making money, I'm happy. Sometimes marketing isn't about how MUCH you make, but just knowing you're making a few million for virtually no effort.
Took me only five or six runs to hit 49.88 seconds. Badge earned! Build now useless!
Ok, I'm dyin'.
What was your run speed?I gotta know!
-
I'm going to have to agree, I think.
MA/fire has great synergy, and it gets even better with a few buffs. A bubble makes you into a wrecking engine that has to be seen to be believed.
So, to all: Play more buffers! -
Quote:I find the absolute BEST toons are the ones with a strong theme.I'm looking into making a Broad Sword/Shield Defense character, mostly for thematics (sort of like a Thanagarian, for those who know your DC)
Quote:I wanted to know how Broad Sword stood up against other sets. It appears to me to be slower and generally weaker (if only for the commonly resisted damage) than other melee sets.
If the resists to lethal bother you, fight lethal-weak foes. I recommend Carnival of Shadows.
Quote:So, I'm asking for those who have played BS/SD, those who have played Broad Sword, or those who just know the set; How does Broad Sword stand up against other sets?
BS/sd is the only scrapper build that has a reasonable shot as single-tanking tower buffed Lord Recluse, or any of the Incarnate tf's. (Watching a BS/sd scrap wade through the hydra swarms and smash the pylons was....amazing.) -
Quote:As I recall, Assault provides terrorize protection, verrry handy.Yeah most of mine will have Maneuvers and Tactics, some will also have Assault
And, yes, with inherent fitness, I think every melee toon should have some leadership: It is just very nice, and you get enough of it?
It's not even close to 'minor.' -
Quote:If you're specifically asking about purple sets and comparing those to the incarnate abilities.... it depends. Some builds don't benifit a lot specifically from purples. But if you're just using the "purpled" term to mean any toon who heavily invests in set IOs. Then hands down IO sets are better then incarnte abilities. Incarnates only increase 1 primary stat, and possibly 1 other useful stat at a time. IO sets can exceed the value of any incarnate boost and add to many other stats simultaeously.
...I'm not so sure of this.
Bang for the buck, the Alpha slot is MUCH better than IO sets. Makes the game more casual friendly.
And the Alpha slot effects are quite strong. Yes, the currently released common and rare enhancers don't do a super amount, but there are far better ones on the horizon.
And the Alpha slot is only the first one...of TEN.
So.....excited..... -
Quote:SD is so good it is broken, and the Dev's apparently like it that way. Thus it has become the default 'go to' powerset for minmax powergamers. Thanks for the replies so far. So is elec armor really bad or something? Everybody seems to love shield, but either nobody knows about elec, or it just sucks?
I have three of them at fifty myself.
/ela is, on the other hand, a perfectly awesome armor set. I have two at 50 and am thinking hard about another. It is resistance based with a nice little self heal that also serves as a mild version of conserve power. Even better, /ela is practically immune to endurance drains.
If you combine electric armor with electric melee, you create an unholy monster of awesome. You are immune to end drains, and you drain all about you. All of your attacks have a chance of draining the baddies and giving the end back to you.
Elec/elec's have infinite wells of endurance: They never stop. Sappers are nothing but pretty light shows, you can farm carnies for fun, and those darn freakshow super stunners are barely annoyances. Clockwork cannot harm you and rikti are barely work, except for the lethal swords. Take tough and weave.
I ran my elec/elec to 50 jiffy quick, and it was one of the most fun runs I've ever had.Thunderstrike is a pbaoe that does huge amounts of knockdown, which gives time for your energize to pop again and heal you back. Lightning Rod is...so much awesome. You have to see it to believe it. Plus, for even more damage, an elec/elec can run their damage aura without too much effort, and the end drain and damage REALLY starts to add up, one thing stacking on another.
Havoc and charged are solid little single target attacks, although I strongly recommend Air Superiority for more single target punch. It also adds even more knockdown, which will help your survivability. Jacons Ladder I find meh, others like the narrow cones. if you take Air Sup, do NOT take hover or fly: You only knockback protection is grounded, a power that you have to be on the ground to use. I strongly recommend a knockback IO on top of grounded.
At the very top-end, elec/elec has tons of potential: With serious investments it can get considerable amounts of +defense to stack with the very good resists and very good self-heal and very good melee mitigation. Mine, even with no sets slotted, is among my more durable toons. An elec armor tank with alpha slotting should be able to get among the highest resists in the game and stack it with some serious +def.
Plus, elec/elec is just fun to play. It looks awesome and sounds awesome.
So, you can play yet another FOTM, or you can have some real fun. Totally up to you. -
Well, I was on an invuln, and hopping next to the pylons meant we had a precious few seconds to drop it while I scampered around the corner.
Toxic burns. IT BURNSSSSSSSsssssss......
Quote:That was too much fun. Those teams just spoil me. I'd team a whole lot more if more teams were like that.
Granted, I TF a lot.
A LOT.
But yeah, most of the deaths came from the tentacle room, not having any temps meant we were waaaay low on ranged, so we had to put on the big-boy pants and go get it done. -
Quote:This, folks, is wisdom. That's right and I'm glad to see at least some people acknowledge the power of T3 orange insps. Absent Emp support from someone I know and trust completely, my loadout is (all T3s) 6 Greens, 4 Purples, 4 Blues and everything else an Orange. I have Resist Energies and therefore 30% Energy resists. So I chew 1 purple and 3 oranges (maxes energy resists) and say hello. When the red tower goes down I may drop down orange consumption to just 1, for the duration of the encounter.
Also, e-mail yourself some insps, just in case the team is slow taking down towers.
T3 insps are the great equalizer in this game. However many get you to 75% Defense and 90% resists put you at the same footing as someone that spent 5 billion inf, at least for 60 seconds.
My inv is ridiculous: With one guy in range I'm at 52 percent. I did that to soak debuffs, but on LR it make's a very noticeable difference.
And he'll STILL plant ya if he gets a lucky roll in. I've seen truly MONSTER stoners drop in seconds, so fast the emp that was supporting them couldn't get a heal off.
Tower-buffed LR is no joke. -
Quote:Was lots of fun Bass! Thanks for hosting.
4 or 5 deaths in the Apex here. Got to greedy with those pylons.
0 on Tin Mage thoughSo, that makes up for it! \o/
Yeah, I died on both of them. I blame the fact that I suck.
The no-temps thing? That was just mean. I like me my monkeybuffs.

Ahhh, BS/inv.
I got one of those to 30-ish waaaaay back in the I2-I3 timespan, when Jack Emmert (spit) was doing such things as making Unyielding root you in place as long as it was activated.
Ah, the glory days of the tele-scrapper.
After I got over the two years of rage at that stupidity, I found that poor little toon, still with five-damage SO's in all powers.
It was a mercy-deleting. It really was.
That said, I find bs/inv an interesting 'maximum survivable' option these days, with inherent Stamina and physical perfection +alpha finally able to feed the beast.
Invuln is turning into a reasonably early bloomer.
That said, I'm unlikely to ever roll one, because bs/sd has...SO much more damage. And it gets that damage for very very little loss in durability.
It'd be an interesting toon, that's for sure. -

Quote:Looking at it in Mids, it seems pretty easy to get around 30% defense to all but Psionic with out sets, but all the resists except smashing/lethal are just bad.
At least, on a brute. It looks a lot tougher on a tank (which is expected) but it doesn't seem like the brute version would be very durable. Is there some thing I'm missing?
Here, check this build:

There's five slots reserved for Health and three for Stamina, on top of having alll thattt awesome.
This would then be topped off by the cardiac radial boost, for 33 end reduct and 20 damage resist, 11 and 6.7 of which will overcap.
That, is why invuln is good. -
Quote:The maximum scrapper AOE is a spines/fire/mu, but honestly, it's such overkill.....Long time player but recently returning to the forums so this question may be a no-brainer for you guys. Looking for a AOE king, thus wondering what damage aura/secondary I should go with. With inherent fitness coming out, damage auras don't scare my blue bar as much.
I have a lvl 50 spines/SR that puts out respectable damage, that is why I was focusing on spines. If I am missing something there on my primary, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on that matter as well. (Perhaps electric?)
Note: On the brute boards, the majority over there feel SS/Fire is the build for AOE greatness.
Playstyle: This is going to be for PvE with a lot of teaming if that helps with your answer at all.
Thanks in advance for your input.
I'd go spines/fire/body myself, and enjoy the insane damage. You are going to die a LOT, be aware.
Personally, I think a slightly less (very slightly) insane AOE build is a claws/fire/body with the SRP alpha. Claws gives a tiny bit of mitigation in Focus, and you can build a massive AOE chain from spin and burn alone.
Plus you can stack followup and fiery embrace.
Whew. I need to sit down.... -
Quote:Yeah, that's why I always try to hit him, not the towers. (Blue is the most commonly skipped, so pulling him to blue is a viable spot, and has the advantage of putting you close to the flyer if it respawns on ya.)Yeah not so sure about that, so maybe you wont even need confront... he does go crazy when the towers get low
The little extra aggro from tickling him seems to keep him more stationary. The time I saw that SR do it, LR was racing around like crazy, made for a very...scary experience. -
Quote:No lie! There isn't really much that can survive fully buffed Recluse without using inspirations.
I've seen a few stone/x tanks do it pretty reliably with monster builds + rooted, and just out-heal his damage.
I've seen one truly monster inv/dm tank just pound him, but I think even that guy had to eat oranges and greens a couple of times.
But even the monster stoners can get cascade failures and faceplant before you can blink, so it's never a for sure thing.
The most reliable is a tanker and a healer, and the healer just rocks the heal like crazy. Even then it can be touch and go sometimes.
See, that encounter is one of the reasons why I chuckle at the folks who say tanks can always be replaced by brutes/scrappers: It just ain't so.
Most of the time, yes. Not always.
And frankly, the unlimited stacking of buffs is a far larger issue, anyway. You stack up sonic/force/ice buffs and a level six kitten can tank LR. -
Quote:...has anyone come up with a scrapper build that can tank Lord Recluse on a STF, without any support?
I've done it with a tank, but was wondering if anyone has done it with a scrapper.
bs/sd is the only scrapper build that can do it 'sort of' reliably while LR is fully tower buffed. Other builds can often do it if they get lucky as well, mainly invuln and SR. (Only seen an SR survive it once, and had a sonic helping, and it was...messy.)
You want to get 80-odd percent defense to melee and lethal, as that covers all of LR's attacks (that I know of) aside from the end drain. Start the fight with three huge end insp's, and three huge defense insp's. Eat as many defense insp's as you need to to cover you while you approach at speed. If he tags you with the end drain, pop as many of the end's as you need to ride it out.
I recommend one huge orange at all times for when he sneaks a shot in anyway, as with capped resist you MIGHT survive one or two shots. Have two or three huge greens in case.
Tactics are simple: Eat purps to hit 80+ def, go in FAST. Stay at melee and spam parry as fast as it will go. If you are not VERY good at acc, have and eat as many huge yellows as it takes to hit him. With a scrapper I never worry about fancy crap like pulling him to corners, the flyer respawn is the least of your worries.
Once the red tower goes down, it becomes merely insane, not suicidal, so in theory with a strong team, you might be able to ride him out with just inspirations.
As a note, I've tanked him by accident with my claws/inv more than once, so I know it can be done, but those times I had an emp propping me up. -
Quote:Quick, drink something cold!I did not took time to check the builds you offered yet but i'll do just after having writing this, how much i'm impressed with the care some of you guys are sharing such wise experiences. CoX has one great community. I feel warm inside
