    THIS.

    Get a sub.
  2. Kismets?

I don't see it. Too easy to get with merits. Only need one per toon.

Snipe sets MIGHT be all right, although snipe sets stink.

I expect there'll be a brief panic, then folks will get stuck with a lot of stock. But I could be wrong.

    So ... Snipes

Well, phooey. Okay, so brutes are still so good they're broken.

That said, how does perma-fast moonbeam compare to other scrapper attacks? For example, I have a truly ancient claws/invuln that can get over 22 percent to-hit effortlessly using followup. Is it worth it on that sort of a toon?

If the Snipes are really going to be that strong, I could see Weaponized Sets choking the redraw for 80 DPA.

Why are you choking that poor redraw?!

    Here, check this out:

You know what pretty much every first-person shooter on the planet is full of?

Yeah, AR/Dev blasters running around shooting each other. (I don't get it either, but 400 million bucks in ONE DAY is hard to argue with.)

So, you betcha, it's a smart play for the dev's to sexy-up that portion of their game. Plus, hey, it's fun!

Its hard to argue that a set can throw down

    Full Auto->Buckshot->flamethrower->M30 grenade

And repeat at buckshot. Is ridiculously good to begin with now it has the best single target chain as well ? My AR blasters are going to love it, but really fixing the set by making it horrendously over powered ?

I would have been plenty happy if they just adjusted the range of some of the cone attacks to be more consistent and adjusted the recharge time of the single target attacks.

Edit: This really is a great argument that no matter what you do you should plan on doing the work to adjust individual sets to keep them in line. Right now we have a 50% variance between top and bottom on single target assuming everyone can get the new benefit. If they can't the bottom performers are going to be even worse.

...I'm sorry, but are you whining?

Whining because they finally made Assault Rifle, the MOST iconic of ranged damage sets, actually good?

Whining because the playstyle of a blaster set that will appeal to every player of first person shooters in the WORLD is now good? It's called, 'Giving the customers what they want.'

If you are concerned about balance, I will repeat: AR damage is heavily resisted, fire damage is not. Fire blasters are still...ridiculously awesome. I mean, come on, their best single target attack chain has an AOE in it!

However, the much-maligned AR/dev blaster, which SHOULD HAVE ALWAYS been awesome, now actually IS.

This is good for the game. Smart dev's.
  6. mauk2

    So ... Snipes

So, here's some numbers I pulled from MID's:

    Scrapper Soul Mastery:

    Moonbeam: Cast 1.524 Damage 143.9 DPA: 93.83

    Brute Soul Mastery:

    Gloom: Cast: 1.32 Damage 73.41 DPA: 55.61

    Are these accurate?

I mean, Brutes love Gloom for it's high DPA.... And Moonbeam is now MUCH better than Gloom?

Have I made some dreadful error? (Because the build I posted is SO GETTIN' BUILT if no mistake is here.)
  7. ...whoah. That's a hella lot of work. Thanks!

    (reads)

Ya know, I am completely fine with AR doing more base damage than fire. Fire does sick AOE and fire damage is MUCH less resisted. And frankly, AR is as iconic a set for shooty players as SS is for tanks/brutes. I SHOULD BE MOAR SHOOTY.

This change is good for the game. (thumbs up)
  8. Okay, I'm still working on this project, even though the I24 Snipe power changes have distracted me a bit. After examining the Snipe changes, the only thing I changed in this build is to ensure that Forge grants perma-snipe for darn sure, and I tried to get tactics to +22 percent to hit. I missed that target a smidgeon, so any suggestions would be welcome.

This is the final, FINAL build, barring last minute great ideas. As such I re-ordered the powers to how I would like them, +5'd a few things, and generally tidied it up ready to go.

If anybody on Infinity would want to run villain tips/patron arcs with me, let me know! This is a hella build, but not, I repeat NOT, a soloer.

In which case, you're doin' something wrong.

Are you also attacking? If so, what's the dps you're outputting? Are you using your bruiser?

Are you close enuf to the jello mold to get it in your taunt aura?

If you're standing way back and throwing taunts, how much global recharge do the two builds have? Are you CERTAIN you have the same IO loadout in each toon's taunt? 4 of 6 mock's could have quite different enhancement modifications. If you're taunting from range, do you have any ranged attacks you're also using?

Etc, etc, etc. Lotsa things could be causing it.

Yes, it is per target, and yes, it is enhanceable. I have been slotting three cytoskeletons in Invincibility for years now, and it is every bit as awesome as you think it is.

And yes, that makes it over 3 percent per baddie in range.

    EDIT:

And yes, I have an old dm/inv scrapper (a sterling combo) that has been staring at Moonbeam and suddenly is not nearly as jealous of Gloom as she has been for years.

This DOES effect pool powers too, right? (ponders)

Actually, on my fire/fire tanks, I routinely slot Healing flames for resistance. The 'toxic death sewers' are easy-peasy when you have 90 percent toxic resistance.

Tanker fire armor can easily hit 90 percent to fire and toxic. Me like.

And yes, I have noticed for a while that toxic is NOT uncommon. Zombie vomit to poison clouds, it's at every level of the game.

  15. It's a good thing my new thermal/sonic is leveling up nicely, Forge is now tagged to all blasters all the time.

Yes, you may thank me at-will.

Oh, did I mention the build also has tactics? Slotted? A LOT?

I have a very old ar/dev blaster that I have been waiting to re-roll when the devs gave us a better 'not super' secondary.

While the ar/dev blaster is looking pretty nice....the ar/time corr would fit just as well if not better and be WAY, WAY more useful solo and on teams.

    I am thinking hard, now.

Long story short, the snipes fix is cool and good.

The sustainability buffs are the REAL difference, and I'll hafta see how those do: Giving every blaster a version of drain psyche is a BIG DEAL.

I think blaster nukes should also get their crash removed, completely. But we'll see which way the dev''s jump.

    3. Now that you asked who needs help, did you research the trial first so you can help them? Yes it helps to know what you are doing.

    4. Be clear up front what each phase entails, and also give reminders as the trial progresses. Don't expect people to remember everything you talked about in the beginning, but don't expect folks to adjust if you spring new information on them at the last minute.

    5. Be polite, fair and complimentary. You'll get a better response than if you are bossy or insulting. Remember that typing doesn't convey emotion or tone, so watch carefully what you type. I find it's best to use full and correct English as shortening the language or "l33t sp34k" can come across as flippant, rude or ignorant.

Beyond those generalities it depends on the Trial you are running. Seen #3: know the trial.

    Most excellent advice.

When I'm running trials, I try to do all of these things.

Also, if you are looking to succeed with a less than stellar league, then in general, I find taking the time to communicate effectively will work wonders. If you're leading, the words you type will be more effective than any powers you can bring to bear.

For example, I was leading a TPN with a less-than-perfect league a while back. I was typing like a madman the whole way. It was literally like herding cats.

We got to the second fight with Maelstrom, and we were getting it figured out. (He dropped fifteen or more people the first time he used his Marked for Death. Ow.)

I got worried about the timer: We had 5 minutes left and he was over 60 percent.

So I typed in: "Watch time! In five minutes, we lose! All on AV!"

It was miraculous. Everybody stopped panicking and griping, and piled on him like rabid wolves. We still had a few folks who couldn't figure out the Marked for Death mechanic, but we still dropped him with three minutes to spare, and from there on we had smooth sailing.

It's fun, very fun, to watch a league 'get it' and come together like that.

    Tanking iTrials

I have been thinking about this rather a lot, and am coming to the conclusion that the 'best' iTanks are going to be either shield defense or willpower, with SR and Dark as distant seconds.

Why? Confuse/terror resistance. SD and will offer both, SR has confuse, Dark has terror.

After that, any of the 'traditional' heavy armor sets is viable, with the caveat that you better run leadership and carry breakfree's. Heck, I'd have some breakfree's ready on ANY tanker in incarnate content.

I have tanked many an UG on a stone/ss, and on my beloved inv/ax. Both have quite good builds and did fine, aside from the occasional faceplant caused by Olympian Guards.

MoM is a bit rough on an invuln, but quite doable with dull pain and rebirth.

DD is not that hard to tank, in my experience.

Keyes is tankable by my fires or my invuln, never tried the stoner because you want to be able to run around, but I've seen a teleporting stoner do it amazingly well.

But a top-shelf shield defense or willpower build would, I believe, have the strongest performance envelope in that content.

SR tanks might be a bit crunchy on iTrials, but my tooled up SR scrapper with rebirth does just fine. Rebirth COMPLETELY re-makes SR. Dark, well, the endurance issues and general squish factor can both be handled on a good build.

In my mind, a growing concern s going to be taunt resistance. Namely, we ain't got none.

    Correct.

And, I'd have to see a miraculous improvement to EVER slot that POS. It's like punishment for getting the six slotted gauss bonus, and assuring that you can only ever get one of them.
  20. Technically speaking, isn't the tanker primary with the most 'skippable' powers stone armor?

If you go granite only, you don't need any of the secondary armors.

So you can be a full-tilt 'tank' and only use five powers from your primary.

    Seems about right.

    Indeed!

Except katana, staff, and titan weapons all do that too.

As does martial arts on a tank.

    It's a pretty common mechanic.

And honestly, as more and more iTrial stuff comes out, the relative potency of defense as a mitigator promises to be more and more diluted, anyway.

Maybe add some +resist to Parry, that'd help a lot.

LOL, yeah, I know, I just hate the wobble.

But even without clobber, crowd control is just...SO much awesome. They need to switch the target caps for battle axe between pendulum and cleave.

And they should add a crapton more bleeding to the bladed heavy weapon sets, Titan Weapon is eclipsing them completely. The ONLY advantage the one-handed heavy weapon sets have over TW is when they're paired with shield defense.

But I've been posting suggestions for bs/axe improvements for ages now. Nuttin' (sigh)

Kismet, is, I agree, an excellent choice.

I will, however, strongly disagree about the leadership pool: It is one of the best choices on a tanker. Tankers are teaming archetypes, and team buffs are excellent choices. If you are ever thinking of going incarnate, the leadership pool is a fantastic option, because the softcap is raised to 59 percent and there is confuse/terrorize galore. Yes, wp is one of the very few sets that protects against confuse/terror, but the rest of your team is likely to be completely vulnerable to that stuff.

    Leadership rocks, naysayers.

I also agree that CJ is overslotted, it doesn't need more than one or two slots and Shield Wall is extremely expensive for the benefits it provides. A couple of LotG would be better.
    Quote:
In addition, Fly is overslotted--it doesn't need any Fly Speed enhancement to hit the speed cap. I'd put a Winter's Gift Slow resist in the base slot and call it done, but a end red common would work as well.
If you want to fly FAST, then you want to fit in afterburner and slot flight into that.

On my flying toons (not so many) I am completely sold on afterburner, it is monster fun.

    (notes Claws postin' an uber-build)

    (steals build without hesitation)

Holy MOLY, dat's a fine wp tanker.

I have a wp/fm stalled in the 30's, this will do nicely.

That said, I must ask, how do you set the IO's to plus 5 in only a few powers in Mid's? I would love to be able to do that!
