Quote:Thanks for the sig!My inv/ss tank took rebirth with regen over +hp.
Between dull pain, rebirth and my existing abilities I think I may be immortal.
I have also prevented team wipes by a well timed heal, like right after a Marauder nova punch.
Finally, I am earning all those healing badges that I thought my main would never get! -
You know you are in the brute forums, right? Right.
Seriously though, you might want to check the tanker forums for some assistance with a fire/fire tank build. Also, the scrappers are very good with math and builds from what I hear, so stopping by there would probably be worth your time.
More importantly, I feel I should tell you that many consider it poor netiquette to flat out ask for a build from other posters. You would probably have better luck posting your own build and asking for advice or critique. Also, you might want to clarify what you are trying to farm. -
Akhillius, the text color in your build is death for those of us using the villain skin option for viewing the boards.
I haven't played her in quite some time, but I do have a 50 claws/inv that is a whole lot of fun to play. Carving stuff up is fun and fast with her. -
Quote:Don't feel bad. I don't know any elec/fire brutes that are able to use rage either.Yay the brute just got annoying when it comes to just badging for accolades and stuff like that cause his dmg aint OP without rage. and personally I just want a OP toon lol
Seriously, cucumbers taste better pickled. -
Quote:Except that you said /sd for brutes is the worst set a brute can take...I'm not trying to say that Shield Defense is a bad set, far from it. The thing is that in the hands of a brute and in the hands of IOs, taking any other set and making it godly is much more cost effective and just flat out better in terms of survivability and in some cases, damage.
I won't comment on most of the hilarity of your post, as others have taken most of what you said and provided reasonable discourse.
If you are making the argument that scrappers that have /sd don't generate crazy aggro, you must not be playing the same version of /sd for scrappers that I am. My /sd scrap pulls aggo off of brutes and tankers on a regular basis. Not saying that it is permanent aggro, but she generates enough aggro that she is regularly the center of attention on teams of all types.
I think I can see why you don't like /sd for brutes. There is no math or logic to the reasoning, its just that you plain don't like it for brutes (as you clearly stated toward the end of your post). And you know what? That's fine. You don't have to like everything that's available for brutes or any other AT. I just hope you realize that your evaluation on how well brutes perform with /sd is flawed. -
You had me until you dropped this baby. Just because sd for brutes isn't as offensive as sd for scrappers doesn't mean it is one of the worst sets available for brutes. It just means that it doesn't match the damage output of scrapper sd. I have a lvl 50 well built shield scrapper and a brute. I enjoy what each brings to the table, and I never feel inferior playing one over the other.

[QUOTE=LSK;3753932]Quote:Well, he cleverly sidestepped the tradition of people not posting anything and asking for builds. He just posted a questionable build and asked for other people's build. But it has purples and PvP IOs in it plus cost him a bit of influence and he probably use it for Farming the AE stuff
Also it is funny how the OP never posted anything else on this thread.
I guess the qualifier will have to change for giving advice, heh. -
Wow. I really tried to give you the benefit of the doubt despite your reputation, but I think this post captures your madness at its height. You do realize that this is just a game, right? You do realize that you are not actually a tanker, right? I think you are taking this way too seriously.

Quote:Just have to say- this post makes little sense. Of course scrappers start out doing higher damage and brutes start out slow, that is just the way fury works. I don't imagine any brute stays at 0% fury while in combat, so that point is flawed.Brutes get off your high horses about how great claws is compared to the Scrapper claws. I can see WHY you say that, once you get fury up, you will be winning in damage, but right at the start, scrappers are superior in damage. Sounds more like a prefrence of playstyle.
I don't think anyone is on a high horse here- so you should probably take it down a notch there, kitten. It's not that serious. Let's take a chill pill and relax for a moment. -
Quote:Well, that certainly was nasty. What's wrong? If I do not have deep knowledge in setting up build, ask for suggestions for the people here who knows how?
Do not know? Do not want to help? DO NOT POST, so post it? To be nasty? Floda? There's nothing useful in your post!
You have 1.444 posts like this useless? Congratulations, you have much free time and an empty head!
You should probably work on your netiquette. His response was informative and yours is just filled to the brim with snark. -
I think it is a fun combo. I have a km/wp at 50 currently with a good amount of inventions slotted. I feel the set is the love child of energy melee and claws. It is definitely more fun than the EM/SR that I poured money into only to realize I couldn't stand it EM... but I digress...
Worthwhile? Define it. Is it fun? Hell yes. Will you see numbers that make you want to cry? Probably not. Due to the way damage mechanics work, brutes probably see the least return out of the +damage the set provides. With that said, a scrapper will be a better choice for a min/maxxer than a brute. -
Quote:Definitely missing a few things. Why are you bringing issue with the fact that Corrs are getting psychic blast when defenders are getting both thermal radiation and fire blast? Not to mention that defenders are still keeping empathy and force field exclusive to them. Kind of a one sided argument that is missing balance, right? Right. Also, corruptors will still be different in that they will still have pain domination and will be getting poison in the future. So your attempt to make it seem that the two ATs are becoming one and the same has failed. With the next power proliferation, Corrupters will end up with exactly he same powers as Defenders, including the longed for Psychic Blast.
Therefore, the only difference i see between them now is that one starts critting on a low target - Scourge - the other one starts getting an end discount and a 30prct dmg buff if he's in team, and someone in his team is taking damage.
Tbh i'd go for scourge any day on a Psy/Pain or Psy/Rad corr.
What do you guys think? Am i missing something or are they reducing blaster to the 2nd most useless AT after PBs?
As others have pointed out, there are still pretty notable debuff/buff values between the two, so don't think that things will be exactly the same. Defender debuffs still hit harder and do more than corruptors ever will.
And where did that last little blurb come from at the end about blasters? I thought your post was about defenders and corruptors. Then you go and throw that old bone in. Oh wait... actually all of this is pretty old.
Proliferation is a good thing generally. I hope for just about everything to be proliferated at some point, with the exception of /ninjitsu. I think those poor stalkers deserve to keep at least that one thing after all of the shafting they get.
/resume beating dead horse. -
Quote:Ahh. Good point. I should probably let it be known that my shield defense= thirsty opinion is based on my experience with my ss/sd and my ma/sd. And unless I am wrong there too, martial arts is on the heavy side of end use too. So... my opinion is likely warped due to such pairings. It took a full IO build before my SS/SD/Soul wasn't a constant sweat fest of "will I detoggle??" due to AD going off, Rage Crashes, Hasten and Foot Stomping like it's free.
It took cardiac for the build to feel effortless.
SD on its own, compares well vs. Invuln & SR for end usage.
SS is the blue-drinking behemoth. -
Wow, I have been at work too long. After looking at your picture, I tried to click the exit button.
/instantfail
On topic- congratulations! That is admirable. I need to solo one for myself too one day. -

Well, to be fair we don't know that it would or wouldn't... I just was a little hurt thinking you had some juicy tidbit of proliferation info to which I was not I was not privvy. Hehe. It stands to reason, particularly since energy aura for brutes is getting a rather delicious change alongwith the addition of taunt aura, that all brutes will have (available) taunt in their secondaries.
-
I can agree to that. Hell, I may have had sub-optimal slotting for my ss/sd with regard to end reduction.
-
Let me preface this by saying I love my ss/sd like a fat kid loves cake. But...
Unless you are running IOs, I would not recommend running a ss/sd. The combo is a beast, but you need a fair amount of IOs and a large investment before it really comes into its own. People will say different things about end consumption, but I think shield is on the heavy side. Add in ss, which is certainly heavy, and you have an endurance hog, sadly. My ss/sd struggled with end consumption on IOs and continued until the introduction of the alpha slot. Let's not forget that the defense crash can be problematic and even lethal for a shielder. (Yes I am aware that it is pretty easy to auto cast this and with enough recharge, the crash is avoidable, but it still creates issues for people sometimes.)
Even more, I don't think shield defense will offer satisfactory performance until it is softcapped personally. Of course, with no IOs, you will not be softcapped using /sd on a brute. And stacking it up to willpower- it just doesn't cut the cheese at level 50 on SOs. Willpower will not struggle with regeneration or recovery, but /sd definitely will. On just SOs, I believe ss/wp is actually quite playable.
Anything is a beast with IO investment, but ss/wp is much more doable for a casual or budget minded player. SS/SD is a force to be reckoned with, but it just doesn't get good until you have lots on inventions. -
Have you looked into kinetic melee? I am trying my best to push you away from energy melee.
-
Can you confirm that /regen for brutes is getting taunt? I know the change is coming for /energy aura, but I didn't see anywhere that regeneration would definitely have a taunt added in.
-
First up is stalker. Here, I would take elec melee/ninjitsu. Elec melee is one of few things not broken for stalkers. The teleport attack doesn't break hide either. On top of that, your AoE feels pretty helpful on large teams. Ninjitsu is unique for stalkers, easy to softcap, and offers mitigation that is fun.
For the brute, I would say make a ss/fa. Why? FA is all the rage once more, and brutes can leverage the powerset rather well. Fast recharging heal in healing flames, taunt in blazing aura, burn (that still has that recently buffed smell on it), and Fiery Embrace that just makes the set rock. Add in some rage from SS and footstomp goodness, you have ST, AoE and mitigation that is hard to beat. Oh, did I forget to mention fury adding more to just about everything you are throwing at enemies?
Scrapper- Go DM/Shield. There are a number of power gamers out there that are truly enjoying this combo. A soft capped shielder is a thing to behold; and scrappers get the best out of shield defense thanks to pet rules. With new incarnate content pushing the defense cap higher, the - to hit in dark melee will help to even the odds even more in your favor. The dm heal is something that pairs quite well with shield; which has no built in healing ability.
Tanker- make it Elec Armor/ Kinetic Melee. Elec armor is rugged and offers some pretty helpful abilities to increase survivability. End drain isn't an issue and good aoe dmg with the aura to keep attention on you despite a primarily ST focused secondary. Not sure, but I think that the dmg buff from KM rolls into the damage aura. KM is the new kid on the block, but it is fun and hits hard enough. -
Quote:Call me crazy, but I don't think I would roll anything as EM ever again. Furthermore, I think that in the absence of IOs, /invulnerable brutes will fair considerably better than / willpower throughout the 1-50 leveling process. Sure, ss/ will add in more mitigation that helps to keep /wp on its feet, but /inv is just sturdier before ios. Things definitely level out when IOs are added in, as /wp gets crazy fast when +defense and +hp are added to the mix.I've been considering rerolling my favorite Tank (see sig) as an SS/WP or SS/INV or EM/INV (sticking with his original concept) Brute. I'm all about his concept but being the Tank he is, the damage is lacking. I like SS for its uber SMASH factor and it is quite a good set. While I do enjoy EM, the set has gotten rather old and the nerfs have taken to their toll on me. For me, this is a way to breathe new life into the idea and have fun with it.
I'm leaning towards SS/WP because its fun and I hear is quite tough. Not to say /INV isn't but I feel /WP brings something different to the table. I do have an SS/WP Brute but I don't enjoy him and his concept as much as my Tank's concept.
As a mostly solo player, I ask the Brute community, which of these is advised to breathe new life into a favorite toon and make a (somewhat) pleasurable leveling experience? (Builds and IOs aside)
Thanks in advance!
Sure, /inv has the ever present psi damage hole and some endurance problems here and there, but just pacing yourself and using insp can help with this. I would reroll into ss/inv and ride it into incarnate territory.
Oh yes, going from a tanker to a brute might be a rough transition if you are used to the ultra sturdy nature of the modern tanker. There will probably be less of a shock if you go to /inv over /wp (in the absence of inventions). -
Quote:Punctuation is your friend!okay listen to me really bad SS/FA before you even start farm plop up like 4-8 purps and put on SOs they enchance much better than IOs then once in open the thing put on the blazing aura thing then after that use foot stomp w/ fury lots of minions have fallen at your feet some lieu's then but on burn after that wait for foot stomp then use KO blow on bosses but also before in use rage alot and stack it. once then fiery embrace use that too once your low on end use consume then your farming like a god
now for advice on elec / FA go in pull up all of your shields put up your purps and use LR tele to mob then thunder strike then build up for when your recharged then use every power you can then use consume keep doing this and your and official farmer.but also use burn and blazing aura
FM/FA i think you need to get into the mob then start using fire circle and enchance it. after that use your blazing aura thing to get fury up and then burn then attack the bosses with greater fire sword with fury may pack a punch. then get kinda in front of the mob and use incinerate if your out of end use consume
hope you find this info useful
