  1. This is a confirmed bug... My ss/sd only does classic animations.
  2. I thought that certain scrapper secondaries, like Invuln, WP, and Fiery aura all had taunt components to them.

It all really comes down to preference really. If you like doing dmg that is reliable and consistent, a scrapper is a good roll. Brutes have soaring highs, but you don't always feel like a god to be honest. Sometimes, you feel like a squishy tank or other times like a well built scrapper. I like brutes and scrappers- it all comes down to whether I am in a red or blue mood. Roll both!

    Claws SR/Elec??

One more point to consider is that SR for brutes tends to be a bit endurance heavy compared to Elec armor. We don't get the same benefit from patron pools that our scrapper cousins get like Conserve Power or Physical Perfection. Even with good slotting, I find that on my /SR I am a little thirsty. Even more so when I compare it to my /WP or a /Elec. In my eyes, just having the endurance to keep fighting means a lot.

    Cant decide...

Try em all out... There are so many flavors. What do you want to do? Tell us more. Do you primarily solo? Farm? PvP?

    Claws SR/Elec??

The two sets will play completely differently. SR is defense based and Electric Armor is resistance based. Most would say that SR would fare better than elec armor is much of the game. Sure, Elec has great resistance to energy based attacks, offers great endurance recovery, has a Quickness clone built in, and has the new fancy Energize power. SR has tons and tons of defense- so if it is built well, nothing much will be hitting you anyway. I personally don't care that much for SR and its occasional cascading defense failure and RNG love hate relationship, so I would rather roll an Elec Armor. If you have already played SR, try Elec Armor for something new.

I wouldn't say, however, that one is flat out better than the other.
  6. I always find a cold dom helpful. The + defense, +hp, and debuffs are just great.

I don't think you could pick a set that is less suited for farming than Energy melee/stone armor on a brute.

    * How useful is Taunt? Ive taken it so far but am finding it not to be that effective as when I have taken it on my Tanks. Is that just my imagination or do they work differently between the ATs?
    * Do I need Stamina? So far I have been running without it and have found although I have the odd time I need to quickly rest between mobs Consume and Dark Consumption seem to be doing the trick (even though they are unslotted).

    Thanks guys!
I hardly think lvl 4 is time enough to get a feel for any powerset or AT.
Taunt is situational. Don't forget that just about any attack has about 400% taunt built in, so it isn't a must. With fiery aura, and Blazing aura in particular, I find that enemies are just about incapable of staying away. Taunt on brutes is closer to taunt from tanks, much more so than Confront from Scrappers. Someone else can tell you the fine details, but I find it to be just about the same between the two ATs.

If you find yourself needing to rest between mobs, that would be a sign that stamina is needed. At least from my perspective... I hate having to rest beyond about lvl 10 or so, and fiery aura is not the most end. efficient secondary I can think of, so I normally take it. I would rather have the benefits of Consume and Dark cons. to make up the difference and top me off rather than use them as stamina replacements. Even fully slotted, I am sure you will run into situations in which they simply aren't recharging fast enough.
  9. A. No "alpha classes"
    B. Villain Epic archetype, can branch into Night Widow or Fortunata
    C. Villain Epic archetype, can branch into Crab Spider or Bane Spider
    D. Heroic Epic Archetype, has three possible forms

Arachnos is the word that might help you in a search. Welcome back. All epic archetypes require a single alt to reach 50 to unlock per faction.

    BS or MA?

If you are playing to get the min/maxxer out of you, BS is the better choice. MA is stylish with its cool animations, but not the choice of most min/maxxers. I recently rolled a regen, and I chose MA simply because I enjoy the animations of the set.

Correction- Hope I was a little help. The way you posted made your contribution diminutive and it is contrarily quite helpful.
  12. /FA is plenty survivable when you are in higher lvls. Tons of fun and extremely potent for damage. If you have a primary with a few tricks like DM, you increase your survivability pretty solidly. Depending on how much you want to develop Accolades and set bonuses, you could build a veritable beast.
Mid and lower lvls can be a bit challenging- but nothing that is unbearable. The bonus to being a "squishy" fiery brute is that you can pump out dmg pre-IOs that might make most other secondaries blush.
I have great success tanking ITFs with my /FA. If you can play to fiery aura's strengths, and have a solid build planned, it won't be too hard. It becomes easy sauce if you aren't too proud to pop a purple inspiration every now and then. I know it isn't particularly difficult to softcap a /FA's defense to S/L damage. Furthermore, it can be done without neutering your damage and recharge possibilities. I am no number cruncher, but I can tell you that much. In my build I maximized recharge and dmg, and focused a bit on defense too.
If I were concerned about farming, I don't think I would roll a DM though. DM is largely ST and primaries that deal more AoE are more favorable for farming. No matter how good you are at lining up enemies with Shadow Maul, it will still be extremely time consuming and most likely never capture the hits a good Foot Stomp or Fire Sword Circle will. Even with some help from Patron pools, it is a good bet that you just won't be as fast a farmer as an Elec melee, claws user, fiery melee, or Superstrength user.
  13. I was annoyed at the addition of such a seemingly worthless power- right up until the point I turned that baby on and saw some of my dames prancing around the market. Wow! This adds so much detail, depth, and appeal to the same old characters I have been playing for years. Between this, and Ninja run, I am actually RPing a bit and having fun. I only wish there were a way to turn off my blue name above my head that identifies me as a non-npc to other players and just blend seamlessly in with the npc popluation... hehe. That would be too much fun.
  14. Don't forget about SR scaling resistance as HP drops down.

edit* I suppose that is a mark in the SR tab instead of the NW column.

Too bad, however, that is the only thing going for it. It may be a fancy trick, but SS has always come off has a one trick pony.

    It's easier than it looks.
I like the way you put that, Prof. Scrappers and tank run in and start ripping things apart first. On red, the team sometimes expects a brute to tank at lower levels, and that is a difficult thing to do. After all, most forget that MMs have great tanking ability inherently, and I haven't seen a stalker to run into a mob not hidden with arms blazing. So there, you have an occasional lone brute to take alpha and survive, which is difficult at low levels.

I suggest you try maybe a illusion/cold domination or illusion/trick arrow controller. Both builds will allow you to fight at range and contribute meaningfully to a team. Any troller is fine, but try a secondary that is not so PbAoE based like FF, sonic, therm or even storm.
  17. I echo a claws/WP. To me, SS is simple and a bit dull. Claws is more customizable, end efficient, and according to some recent numbers, numerically one of the most potent sets to go with for a primary.
WP is just plain easy mode. My main is a fiery aura brute, but I am still amazed at how easy and efficient it is to play my /wp scrapper. With decent resists, fair defense, scaling regeneration and an endurance recovery power, it is hard to fault.
  18. I can't speak on DB from a stalker specific perspective, but I can speak on the subject from a general one. With that said, I think it would be fairly silly to pick up all nine of the attacks unless you are just an RP fanatic. There is just no way that you can expect to cycle through all nine of those attacks. I have most of my DB time clocked on a brute, and on that particular toon, I only have sweep and attack vitals combos. I couldn't imagine what kind of sacrifices I would have to make to try to fit in more of the primary attacks.
To add to that argument, as a stalker, you probably won't be just straight up scrapping it out that much to whereas you would cycle through all of the attacks and combos. I suppose you might in some circumstances, but generally, you just get in your AS and maybe a few more licks.

As to the OP, I find that I'm perfectly happy with sprint, swift, quickness, combat jumping and a few +movement setIO buffs in missions, but I use fly outside of missions.
Bill- I hope you are right about speedsters being able to run on water. You don't have a link to that post do you? It would make my day if I could read that for myself.

I got tired of playing "Scrapper" Brutes and started playing "Tank" Brutes a long time ago, so all my higher level ones are built to withstand high damage from lots of foes while maintaining high aggro. I have some nice WP, Inv, and Shield Brutes.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, once you have one or two Brutes, adding more just means there's a bunch of guys running around with 0.75 damage modifier who don't have any fury. At that point I'd MUCH rather have a Scrapper along.
Agreed. Out of tankers, brutes, and scrappers- I think scrappers stack optimally, followed by brutes, and lastly by tankers. If I were building an all melee team (that had to have at least one of each melee AT), I would want 4 scrappers, 2 brutes, 1 tank and 1 stalker.
... hmm, that actually sounds like a really fun team.

I tend to get one or two Brutes (often, I'm one of the Brutes), 2-4 Corrs, some Doms, and whatnot. As long as the Brutes are intelligent and the Corrs are supporting, there's no crazy nonsense and miscommunication. A good Brute, especially with Corrs backing them, can lead as well as a Tank can.

On the other hand, I've also been on teams blueside where the Tank keeps doing stupid things and getting himself or other people killed. Or there is no Tank. Or heck, maybe there is a Tank but people don't feel the need to follow him.

Usually what I see when I look at ATs is that heroes only do one thing, but do it really well. Villains tend to do more than one thing, and do it good enough. That's basically what you said.

But the thing that draws me to red ATs more is that every red AT deals good damage. Every red AT is designed with damage in mind, and every red AT added to a team is a damage dealer. Only two blue ATs are made with damage in mind.

That being said, my favorite ATs to have on a team are Brutes, Scrappers, Blasters, Controllers, Corruptors, and Dominators.

That may be a fair comparison of what BLUESIDE people will be thinking of the REDSIDE people when they come over. But from the other perspective:

Scrappers will be questioned because who needs a Scrapper when you have a Brute, amirite? Same goes for Tanks. Brute does both jobs, tanking and damage dealing. Don't need those silly blue ATs, eh?

No need for Defenders. We've been doing fine with Corruptors for ages, so there's no need to reduce our damage out put to add in someone who buffs better.

What's a Blaster for? All they do is damage. Hey man, every AT we have already does that. Learn to do other stuff too, newb!

In a nutshell, blueside people will wonder what's up with those redsiders, and redside people will wonder what's up with those bluesiders. Lots of us have already interacted in RWZ, Cim, and Pocket D. This will mesh things together more and give us more of a chance to see what ATs are the nicest to have on a team, and which ones just aren't needed.

I'm excited for the AT-combining stuff. I want to start building teams that have Controllers, Corruptors, Brutes, Scrappers, Doms, and Blasters. I won't turn down the other ATs of course, but those are my favorites and I enjoy watching them work together.
Great post- I don't think scrappers will quite be in danger of being swapped out for brutes though. In my opinion, scrappers stack much better than brutes do. I don't halfway mind being one of many scrappers on a team. I do, however, mind being one of many brutes. I pretty much won't join a team with more than three brutes. I don't want to be competing for aggro *that* much just to maintain a respectable amount of fury. On teams like that, I will just swap to a different AT before I roll with one of my brutes.
  22. I enjoyed the post and I agree- there are some hardcore bluesiders who will be surprised at the different play-styles that most of the red ATs offer. I don't think most of those players read the forums, so I wouldn't expect many here to see this happening personally, but I know it will happen to someone.
I still see Heroes (that have several Vet badges) that will say they have never teamed with a stalker or MM before. Sadly, they always assume that brutes are tanks too... Grr. I am NOT a tank. I suppose that is another thread entirely... heh

    So...DB...

I don't take all of the combos on my Dual Bladers. On Brutes in particular, I think that Empower is particularly worthless. Fury should really give you much more of a buff than Empower would. Weaken is ok, but the only two combos I subscribe to on my db brute are Sweep and Attack Vitals.

On the whole, I find it fun from a thematic point of view, but the dmg is definitely on the low side until you start rolling in Fury.
  24. As Deus said, +hp is a great thing for WP. I would also throw regen into the mix and hope for the best. WP is jack of all trades, but it really is master of none without some heavy investment into IOs. Most will find it helpful to softcap s/l dmg and build forward from there though. I know there are quite a few SS/WP builds around on the forums though.
