    Defender TK

    Got that backwards...

Dom/Troller TK is an autohit toggle hold, but it breaks when the target takes damage. Defender TK does repel on top of that, and the repel effect doesn't break (so while you might be able to attack after you've been damaged, you won't actually be able to move). Basically, it works more or less like all versions of TK used to work.

    Blaster changes?

Just as a warning, it's probably going to be hella expensive to bring your build(s) up to date, since the market has been wonky more or less since I13/I14. (I spent 600 mil on a Stalker yesterday night, and that factored in me pulling the Miracle, Numina, 2 LotGs, and 2 Nucs out of base storage instead of buying them on the market).

    Boost Range.

Justice PvP hasn't been "active" since before I13. Siren's Call was quite popular (relatively speaking) a loooooong time ago, and RV usually had enough people to keep fighting going for a while. When I13 came out, Justice lost a few players to the changes, but most of them simply transferred to Freedom, because that was the only server which still had a semblance of a PvP population.

I'd wager there are probably around a dozen good PvPers on Justice (just look at the signups for arena events on this server, you'll see the same names most of the time), and all but one or two have made the move to Freedom. In short, if you're looking for good PvP here, you won't find it 90% of the time.

Good luck on Freedom then - get used to people kiting you and engaging/disengaging at will or you'll have a very short PvP run. I'm not sure if you're getting at "I hate when ranged characters kite me" or "I hate when anyone kites me," but if it's the former, no one around here is going to have any sympathy for you, and it won't be much different if it's the latter. As much as the devs (and the fiteklubbers) don't want to admit it, movement is a staple of this game's PvP, and the travel suppression changes did little except make it easier for large teams to get kills against single targets.

Has this been improved at all so melee actually has some use for knockdown as a viable tactic? Or are you still chasing the ADHD kid jumping like he's on speed?
The only way it's improved from a melee standpoint is taunt getting a 75% range debuff. I suppose you could consider the I13 ruleset as an "improvement" for melee as they don't have such strict DR curves, usually have a ton of HP, and often multiple good self-heals. Still, with the exception of a few builds you're not going to get kills in zone against someone with full HP unless that person is a tard or AFK.

Knockdown is not, and has never been, a viable tool for melee. You can use a mez to stop someone for a second or two, and taunt to reduce their range, but other than that you'll still be chasing people around. In other words, if you don't like movement in PvP, you're going to find your melee character experience post-I13 to be almost exactly like it was before.

Actually, duels are pretty stupid under the current rules. People that insist they're good because they can win duels under a system that favors damage spam (I'm looking at you, Poned) really don't have much to brag about.
  7. Don't forget that in addition to external buffs, set bonuses, and your own powers, DR also applies to slotted enhancements (for example, High Pain Tolerance 3-slotted with heal SOs gave my Stalker about 18 HP less in a PvP zone than in a PvE zone), and you can expect the actual numbers on ally heals like Cauterize or Heal Other to be 30-40 points lower with DR.
  8. I was having the same issue over the weekend. On a side note, when did the fortune teller mish flashback start taking you to one of the crystals in the Ouroboros zone (as opposed to an actual door in Perez, which is what it's done as long as I can remember)?

    Not sure on Epic

For PvE Mu's probably a better pick than Leviathan. Charged Armor and Ball Lightning are nice, Surge of Power would be good as a set mule (not much use if you play carefully), and the pet tosses out heals every now and again.
  11. If they're doing it badly, not at all. However, most of the people I know that dual box do it well enough where you'd probably never know unless you asked or they told you (I'm not quite at that level - usually when I run TFs I leave one parked at the contact and play the other one). I don't run on normal mission teams, and many of the people I play with do the same, so we don't run into that issue often.

Regarding "dual boxing," the reason I generally run more than one account at once is to get accolades (both characters getting kill badges at once = twice as fast as doing it individually), so I can complete lowbie missions easily with a level 50, or so I can PL an alt without having to have someone do it for me.

Y'know, they tried that once. It resulted in a general shitstorm and the PvP population is even smaller than it was before (not to mention the system went from being unbalanced in a few areas to being generally unbalanced across the board).

Not really, as anyone who still plays that was decent under the old system knows that the reason they're dying (especially in zone) is because the mechanics gave the other player the kill, not because the other player earned it (if you think that mashing buttons until your target is dead because they can't evade or be healed is skillful, then I'm not sure what to say).

I'm going to put this hypothesis to the test, later tonight. 1v1, blaster vrs corr, tier 1 spamming only.

No healing, no buffs, no running away, no shields, standard IO's, no set bonuses.

Test server should be perfect for this.
This isn't a hypothesis, this is a fact. Unless the Corruptor has some way to either completely drain the Blaster's endurance or floor their recharge before the Blaster gets through their attack chain a few times (all that's needed to get a kill, really) the Blaster will win. Way too much time in zone since I13 has shown me that unless you've got teammates near you, Hibernate/phase is up, or you're by a lot of buildings, you're gonna be screwed if a halfway intelligent Blaster gets the jump on you. It's even worse in the lower level zones where no one has their epic shields and the damage figuring is a bit different.

An emphasis on damage spam over support, a seeming dislike of teaming, and huge misconceptions about the PvP system are the reasons we are where we are today. It's not the players' fault.

Neither toon as any other set bonuses.
    Who will win this fight?
The blaster, no doubt in my mind. Spamming only their tier ones, the blaster has 3 30% chances, every 1.5 seconds, to get luckly and have a prox fire off, doing a substantal amount of additonal damage that the corruptor doesn't have.
Under the current PvP ruleset the Blaster would win that fight just about every time regardless of whether or not either character has damage procs slotted, because all the Blaster would have to do is spam attacks at the Corruptor, who wouldn't be able to heal or get away.

    RAM questions

Is 3 gigs the minimum, or recommended? I have a hard time believing that would even be a recommended requirement (Mass Effect 2, which was just released, has a minimum of 2 gigs under Vista/7 and 1 gig under XP). If it's minimum you should be fine with 2 gigs.

EDIT: Looking at BioShock 2's system requirements: they're calling for 2 gigs minimum and 3 gigs recommended. Therefore you'll be fine with 2 but you'll probably have slower load times and you'll want to ensure you're not running much (if anything) in the background while the game is running.
  17. Outside of MA, there are three redside missions that are fairly common:

    * Liberate Television (from Television): Dreck-style map full of Nemesis
    * Eliminate demons, secure cargo (from Tavish Bell): cargo ship map full of CoT Possessed Scientists (problem with this mission is there are three or so different types of scientists, but a given map will only have one; the type is randomly picked when you accept the mission, and you're stuck with that kind. Because one or two of the types can be problematic due to their slows and mezzes, most people avoid this map these days)
    * "Platform mission" (BS's 3rd patron arc): a Shadow Shard mission via the portal in Nerva, filled with Nemesis. Not as popular anymore due to the ability to select a virtual team size (previously this mission was popular because the number of mobs spawned on the platform is fixed to a rather large number regardless of team size)

Basically, redside lacks the multitude of easily-farmable large outdoor missions (Praetorians, Council, Council Empire, etc) that blueside has, so you're basically limited to Nemesis (there are one or two missions with some Freakshow in Television's arc but the XP on Freakshow was lowered with I16).

    Fire/Pain solo?

rule #1 of builds tweak as needed,
    1. You want the highest damage proc (or the one with the highest chance to fire, or both as the case is with the purple proc) in the power where it will get the most use over time. In a Fire/Pain, that's Flares. Blazing Bolt will rarely if ever be used in 1v1 situations - a case could be made for zones but that just makes you spike bait. Only procs worth slotting in Blazing Bolt are the stun proc and maybe the toxic proc.

    2. You can't. School of Sharks is a bad power. Crappy damage, short range, doesn't drop toggles, you get the picture. Meanwhile, Spirit Shark Jaws does pretty good damage, has the standard 80 foot range, drops toggles, and can bring down fliers.
  19. Lowball your bids, be prepared to wait a few weeks.

Nitpick, but you can skip CO's tutorial if you've already done it, meaning you start your character at level 5 (access to the energy builder and charge power as well as a travel power right out of the gate is nice).

In this game, you can hit 14 in a few hours of play, probably less if you're on a fast team (PLing, I usually get there in 15 or so minutes but that's a different story ).

How many people are casual PVP players? By its nature it tends to draw a fairly serious crowd. While there are gobs and gobs of casual PVE players who may not even utilize the IO system, the PVP community tends to gravitate towards min-max players. Based on that, and the stated goals of the highly unpopular re-imagining of PVP, why would such an artificial constraint be present at all? Doesn't the allowance clash with the changes? Is that some of the reasoning that makes PVP, even in its newest incarnation, not a popular activity? Is there something implicit there that says don't PVP at all until you get yourself PL'ed so that you can be properly equipped?
In a game with gear (any game with gear, not just this one), if you invest more time and resources in your character (whether that be leveling it higher or slotting it better) you'll perform better than someone who doesn't. Really, really simple.
  22. I don't think I'd take the nuke on a Defender unless it were /Ice or Kin/. Draining endurance just to tickle the mobs around me? No thanks.
