Quote:There's a guide here with lots of numbers, but I'll just sum things up briefly. An enemy can deal up to 50% of the damage to a target and still provide you with 80% of the experience. Over time confusion generally speeds up the acquisition of experience unless you are having difficulty dealing damage. Generally, you'll find faster gains with larger mobs if you can contribute some AoE damage.I have a question about confusion..
I'm pretty sure I read sometime that players do not receive XP for damage done by confused mobs. Is this still true? If that's the case, isn't it almost counter-productive for a pre-50 ice troller to count on damage done by confused mobs?
I'm playing around with an ice controller recently, and my buddy's on a plant controller. Just for kicks, we're duoing most of the time. Pretty hard pre-pet. Currently level 25. I didn't take AA because I figured that if we just let all the mobs defeat each other, we'll never get any XP. Is my reasoning wrong? -
Quote:I like NGE and many people consider it one of the essentials in anyone's collection. It's heavily steeped in the mythos of Christianity with some existential overtones. Due to time and money restraints and a lack of direction they final two episodes veer off into a very strange limited animation. It left a lot of unanswered questions, which many find unsatisfying. To me, the unanswered questions are what made the series so thought provoking.I
Going back to the remaining titles on my wishlist - Trigun, Code Geass, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - and I do like mecha so I'm leaning towards one of the latter 3 as my next purchase - are there any of those I should be wary of where the quality drops off suddenly at some point during their run? I've heard that NGE has a slightly... odd... ending, but I've been wary of trying to nail down if that's personal opinion from some reviewers or a commonly held qualitative judgement (mainly because I didn't want to hear any spoilers). And it probably bears repeating that my own personal benchmark for anime excellence is Ghost in the Shell: SAC - not expecting anything to surpass that tbh, but getting close in quality of storytelling/characterisation and themes would be nice.
It may also be of interest to know that Evangelion is currently being recreated. However, the rebuild will differ from the original and is said to have a different ending. Evangelion 1.0, which covers the events of the first few episodes of the series, is currently available in the U.S. Evangelion 2.0 has been released in Japan, but hasn't made it stateside as of yet. -
- Was it Heroes only, or did any Villains experience it?
I only played heroes throughout the test. I experienced the zoning problem four times.
- Did you exit by clicking on the portal, or did you wait for the timeout to kick you from the zone?
Each time I waited for the timer to run out.
- Did you just enter the first instance and stay there, enter the second and stay there, or enter the first and then transfer to the second?
During the first Winter Lord spawn (when both heroes and villains entered the same map), I traveled across instances to defeat the Winter Lord again. Time ran out in the second instance. In the subsequent attempts, I experienced the zone bug from the first instance.
- There was a short period when entry to the second did not work at the white present. Did you try and enter the second zone during this period and fail?
I did not experience this bug.
- Was it Heroes only, or did any Villains experience it?

Quote:Ahaha, I feel pretty silly about this one. I was reading the data from the power analyzer. It reads to the affect of "Hold Resistance: 100% duration" meaning, of course, that the hold will have 100% of its duration. Just a little hiccup in my brain.
Correct me if I'm wrong (because I'm definitely not certain on the mechanics of it), but AV's begin with mez resistance of 100%, which is functionally only 90% due to the cap. So even a single Benumb would only reduce the resistance to 89.57%, less than half a percentage change in effectiveness. -
Quote:If phasing in PVE worked like phasing in PVP I would agree that it could be an interesting mechanic.I sort of disagree. I actually feel that phasing more than has its place in the game but LW needs better visibility of when this happens. It's also a shame that the enemy phase moves (Dimension Shift, Detention Field, and Sonic Cage) can't be used to pull him out of it.
I sort of agree with Dispari that with the way many things are designed and the fact that PvE lacks diminishing returns, LW may need to be broken in order to even matter against three or more high level teams. The problem is that it's a nightmare if you have fewer teams and have lowbies mixed in.
Also, I did an emergency Anything But Another Snowman outfit for Lord Winter. Even if this specific costume isn't used, he needs something more interesting than what he has now.
As long as the player has some option to deal with the current situation then it's much less frustrating. For example, Lord Recluse in the Stateman TF. He's pretty much untouchable, but for a reason that players can see and react to. Let's say Lord Winter summoned all four guardians at once. They do a little animation encasing him in ice which makes him untouchable until they are defeated. This in my mind shows us a little cause and effect from which we can derive a solution.
Simply saying you can't touch this because it's at 75% health is just lame. From a gameplay point of view it's frustrating and from a thematic point of view it makes no sense. I think there are better alternatives, but I'm afraid that at this point it may be too late to instate them. -
Particulary, I'm interested in hearing about the old Hami raids and why people feel the new Hami is gimicky. I never had the chance to experience one as I was farm from level 50 when the changes were instated. From my understanding the new Hami is a bit easier and more forgiving on the AT's that can participate.
But what was it like back then... when you had to walk up hill both ways in the snow for a Hami-O? -
Quote:Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.Resistance resists resistable resistance debuffs.
It doesn't matter if it is Damage Res, Recharge Res, or Mez Res.
So let's take a level 52 AV as an example.
A controller's Benumb has values of 93.13% for everything except -damage, but I'm only interested in the -mez resist. A level 52 AV would resist 86% of the debuff reducing it to a 13.04% -mez resist. That would be further reduced by level scaling another 20% resulting in a debuff of only 10.43%.
So I placed my bets on the wrong pony? And/or am I completely off in my understanding of these mechanics? -
I would throw Dimension Shift out the door so fast that it would tear the fabric of all realities. The rest of grav is salvagable, though I would strip it of its mostly useless secondary effect (-runspeed, why?) and maybe buff the damage in exchange. Wormhole would also be moved to 12.
I would invoke the "Reverse Cottage Rule". I have Cottage. It summons a nice little cottage that is completely useless. One day I log in and Cottage now boosts my defense and resistance. I am pleased. Cottages be damned. -
I know I've said it before, but I'm glad to see some others reiterate the sentiment. The phase state has to go. It's one of the worst mechanics in this game and to see it attached to an special event is disappointing. The are other options that I would consider, for example a storm that knocks players back. If you must keep the phase state then consider having him use the hibernate animation so that it is more obvious what is occurring.
That said I did see some positive changes. It seemed friendlier to small teams than in the first run. The change in difficulty coupled with the greater merit reward is very welcome. Also, I like seeing the Winterlord spawn tied to Frostling defeats. Winterlord hunts last year happened in low-level zones because it meant people could ignore the spawns, much to the chagrin of the natives of that zone. I'm sure hunts will still happen in low-level zones, but it's good to know that there will not be so many roaming spawns waiting for innocent by-standers. -
After 4 runs at it this evening, here's my feedback:
First Run: The Run with GF and villians.
This was the only run in which we spawned two instances of Lord Winter's Realm. After defeating Lord Winter in the first instance many people were able to use the cave portal to travel to the second and defeat Lord Winter again, reaping additional awards.
Through some GM wizardry Ghost Falcon ensured that red and blueside defeated the Winter Lord in quick succession. This was the only instance that we created out of four that had heroes and villains in the same zone. There didn't seem to be any trouble from what I saw, but there was little time to test and I had no pets.
Second and Third Runs:
Nothing too eventful with these runs. I would estimate that we had at least one full team and a team of 4-5. The "resistance equalizing" seems to have made it easier for smaller teams. We didn't have nearly as much as trouble as we experienced in the first test.
Fourth Run: Did we break?
During the fourth run Lord Winter did not enter his phased state at 50% health (maybe it was 75%). He did summon the Guardian. I think we *might have* held him, preventing him from activating his phase state. Just a guess though. In any case, he didn't phase.
Speaking of phase, even though many of us knew how the Winter Lord works and broadcasted his phase states many players continued to attack him. These are players at least knowledgeable enough to access the test server. I forsee some frustration on the live servers.
I'll edit for more impressions later. -
Took down another Lord Winter with the same bug returning to Steel. Loc 2318.3 3.6 1517.1
A third run spit me out at the following loc: 2624.8 -165.2 1671.1
Another run, location: 2383.9 8.7 1389.6 -
Is the ability to travel from Winter Lord Realm 1 to Realm 2 intended? It allowed many of us to enter the realm and fight a second Lord Winter, scoring the additional rewards for doing so.

Well, here we go. I won't necessarily try to disuade you from rolling a fire/kin, but I will encourage to explore all the different venues that control has to offer. Mostly, fire/kins are built for one thing and that thing is farming. So, to your questions...
1. Potentially a high contribution. You have a very potent heal, three nice buffs in Speedboost, Increase Density, and Fulcrum Shift, and the ability to refill your teams blue bars very quickly with Transference. A well played fire/kin can keep most of the team near their damage caps, offer mez protection for squishies, and help with endurance issues. Unfortunately, many farm builds will skip speedboost and ID because they are ally buffs and do nothing for the farmer.
2. Solo you will do quite well against large mobs of enemies if you face the right enemies and build for smashing/lethal defense.
3. Fire is an endurance heavy set, but Transference offers you a way to replenish your blue bar on demand. Some /kins will respec out of Stamina once they reach Transference. However, it requires you to pay closer attention to your endurance and stop burning things for a moment.
4. AoE damage is excellent for a controller. Your damage will come from two sources. Hotfeet, a PBAoE, damage toggle with a run slow and fear effect and your AoE immobilize. The immobilize is essentially for maintaing containment damage on hotfeet.
As to your final question, there isn't a simple answer. Are they the best at dealing AoE damage? Probably yes. Are they the best at locking down mobs? No. Are they best controller to have in an AV fight? Probably not. Can they solo GM's? Not that I have seen.
In my opinion, fire/kins tend to draw in a lot of newer players because they see them dealing epic amounts of damage or solo'ing mobs set for 8 players. However, they are also somewhat late blooming with one of the set defining powers coming at level 38 and often make use of IO sets to achieve an appropriate level of surviability for what they do. You may find the first 38 levels painful to work through and might not enjoy gathering the sets neccesary to soft cap your lethal/smashing defense. It depends on what you consider fun. For a lot of new fire/kins they hop into it not knowing that the payoff comes much later. -

Quote:You don't need both Assault and Maneuvers to access Tactics. One or the other will do. Also, Fulcrum Shift will often put you at the damage cap meaning Assault will contribute little or nothing.I got assault becasue it s not really a power its not really of use but the DMG+ is a plus but i got it because u need to get it in order to get Tactics and the with the use of tactics i get the Set Bonues for S/L 2 slots DUH U NOOB and this build can easiley solo 54's bosses on BM...
And remember, you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar and water. -
Quote:It seems like you have a distaste for "wheel-spinners", the wheels are spinning but the plot goes nowhere. From what I have seen it's a description that fits Bleach, Naruto, and DBZ pretty well. Death Note does have a plot, albeit a bit slow; it just happens to take an incredibly bad turn in the second half. At some point I think it got caught up in trying to outdo its own twists and failed pretty hard. You can disagree all you like, Ghost in the Shell the original movie is on many top anime lists across the web and many Anime Magazines. Check for yourself. That's what I go by, not necessarily personal taste (although I can't rule out personal bias either.)
I disliked the original appleseed, however it is a classic anime. I don't feel Naruto, Bleach or Death Note should be on the list because I personally don't consider these Anime as much as I do pop-culture smutt. They are franchises produced as quickly as possible to make as much profit as possible. They don't have any real semblance of plot (past maybe the first few episodes).
An example of this is the comparision between Dragon Ball and DBZ. One is a great anime series that any anime fan should watch..the other is just a sad attempt at milking a story.
P.S. Elfen Lied wasn't great, but at least it didn't follow through with the source material. The point in the manga that they chose for the anime ending was the climax, before it really bottomed out. Seriously, there was a character that wore diapers because she peed herself when nervous. She served no purpose but to add to Kouta's harem and fetishistic fan-service. -
Quote:This is so god awful, but in such a delightful way.Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro Chan (comedy) - as violent as it is hilarious.
Also, I've only seen one mention of 5 Centimeters per Second, which in my opinion was a superior piece to the creator's prior work, Voices of a Distant Star. Voices had the interesting time/relativity thing going on, but I found 5 cm per Second to be much more emotionally resonant as well as beautiful crafted. The animation is excellent, and the backgrounds are detailed and breathtaking. -

Quote:Terrify has an enormous arc though (90 degrees) so the only position you have to worry about generally is that they're in front of you. I also find for me it comes after a combo of Mass Hypnosis and Total Dom or a Mass Confusion. I rarely open with it due to the retaliation you're likely to receive.FS comes at 38 and not everyone plays their toons post FS levels all the time. Looking at the big picture, mind has enough controls available to allow for slotting some of the powers for damage rather than control.
If you are focused purely on the end game and you can guarantee yourself to be at the damage cap consistently sure. Go nuts slotting all those powers for more control. Remember though that terrify, unlike hotfeet, is a cone power and needs positioning. It is also more likely used as an opener before a new casting of FS right in the middle of a new spawn. So at those times if FS wears off, slotting it for damage isn't too terrible an idea. -

Booster packs are infinitely more "fair" that vet rewards by virtue of being equally available to everyone.
It's also unfair that I must pay in order to keep playing this game. -
I once made a brute. His bio was: "Harvey Young, chairman of the slaughter, killed his wife and daughter." The idea came from some Swedish pop song. I couldn't tell you what they were saying, but that's what it sounded like.

Quote:Create an AV in the mish architect. Make sure you're set for 8 players though so you spawn it as an AV and not an EB.I have a Fire/Cold Corruptor I can use. Though the "limited" access to AVs would hurt this. Any advice on where I can have "easy" access to AVs?
I made one for testing with only build up from its primary and secondary. -
Quote:And as to my choice of activites during an event, if I don't want to do them I sure won't berate others who are trying to do them, or decide to insist that others do other things.Quote:(Heck, I even took one player to task in AP for broadcasting that he was forming a sewer team during the event - yes, hi, that was me.)
Now for something constructive. Hellfrost Demons. We rarely (never?) see them on blueside. If you scaled a few up in size, they could make some interesting Guardians in place of the rather boring and overdone Snowmen, at least for blueside. I don't know how common they are over there. But you guys hate redside anyway, right?
Also, in place of a present, what if the Winter Lords dropped crystals (like the +recovery ones on CoT maps)? It'd be more of a "Whoops, I dropped this as I fled from a face mashing" than a "Come and get me heroes". It would also look wintery and not be confused with a regular present if someone was speeding by or flying overhead.
