    Plant/Storm

One of the biggest draws of plant/storm for me is the fact that it's just plain and simple fun. You've got tons of tools to play with and can easily handle most situations. Things can get a bit spread out if you let it, but then you have hurricane to push it all back together.

My understanding of it is this. A controller's damage can only be buffed 300% from the base damage. So say I enhance the Hot Feet's damage with IO's an additional 98%, I can only accept a damage buff of 202% before hitting the cap. A Fulcrum Shift that hits 9 enemies provides a 220% damage buff, obviously over the cap. Even without enhancing the damage in Hot Feet it's possible to hit the damage cap with stacking FS.

The damage proc's allow you to effectively go over the cap when they go off. Every 10 secs each proc will roll its chance to hit on every enemy in range. With War's slotting there is about a 70% chance that at least one of the procs will land (assuming they all tick at the same time) on an individual enemy.

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you how it compares DPS-wise. That's a bit over my head. If you have good global accuracy bonuses and can manage your FS and endurance recovery well then slotting the procs will net you more damage in the end. That's generally the preferred slotting for farm builds. In general game play, I like to throw a bit of acc/end in there though.

You are correct, sir. Now if you're building for recharge then the 10% from purples really comes in handy.

As for Wish's build... why rely on Acrobatics when you could easily slot 2 BotZ with your power choices? Drop one of the Nucleus Exposure from your Fireball and replace with Acc/Recharge from the Ragnorok set. You hit diminishing returns on damage and accuracy and will gain more from the global recharge and more recharge in the power. Four slot Kick with Kinetic Combat if you're shooting fore smashing/lethal defense and that will give you an additional 3.75%.

Like GRB mentioned purples won't help you reach softcaps. Take a look at other sets and how they can help you reach your goal.
  5. It's been a while since I've been on an all controller team. Always good times. Are you trying to randomly pick up trollers or are you planning a regular night for teaming and maybe rolling new toons? If so it may finally give me incentive to level a grav beyond the 20's.

My global is @Malli so feel free to hit me up when you're getting the team together. Also, Local Man has created the channel Control Freaks. It's pretty quite, but something like this may breathe a bit of life into it.

Would definitely be a shockingly brutal encounter though.
From what I have observed the enemies that use phase powers aren't using true Phase powers. Master Illusionists, for example, seem to only be applying the untouchable status when they ghost and not the phase status.

I will gladly demonstrate to anyone that doubts that Dimension Shift is a phase power how it operates in PvE. Send me a PM and I will meet you on the test server.

And if nobody but you has noticed the mechanic in almost 6 years, I doubt you're correct.
I'm not the only one that has noticed it. Arcanaville pointed out the change to me and I confirmed it myself. Here's the post where she does so.

The fact that no one mentions it derives from two things: Dimension Shift is a royal mess, and people are set in following old information.

What LostHalo is probably experiencing is the effects of the powers wearing off (due to mez resistance) without the HamiOs before they could be stacked enough to affect the AVs. I can see how this could be interprated as an increase in the powers' magnitudes.
You can alter the magnitude of Intangible and it does scale with the purple patch. I can't speak for Detention Field and Sonic Cage, but the effective magnitude of intangibility is affected by both level and enhancements. It's just not in line with the phase portion of the power.

In other words, Dimension Shift is broken.

No, I haven't tested against Hami. I have tested against regular AV's and GM's however. I suppose I should be more careful with words.

It should also be noted that Hami breaks a lot of rules in regard to what it can do. It can also break through the Untouchable status given to Phantom Army.

    2. Do Cages even stack?

    3. Why the heck does Dimension Shift accept intangibility enhancements yet, Sonic Cage does not?!
First, we need to distinguish the difference between the intangible powers and caging powers. Dimension Shift and Black Hole apply the phase status; if you then phase yourself you will be able to affect/be affected by those enemies that you phased. The cages, Sonic Cage and Detention Field, apply the AffectOnlySelf and Untouchable status which cannot be circumvented for the duration of the effect.

In every case, if Dimension Shift hits it will apply the phased status as there seems to be no protection against it. It will phase EB's, AV's, and even GM's every time. So there is no need to stack effects. Even if there was such a need Dimension Shift and Sonic Cage apply different effects that would not stack. For giggles, you could phase an enemy with Dimension Shift, use Phase Shift, then cage the enemy with Sonic Cage.

I'll have to do a bit of testing to answer your second question.

As for the third, at one time Dimension Shift applied an Intangible effect similar to AffectOnlySelf/Untouchable. The magnitude of this effect seemed to scale with level and could be enhanced. Now that it applies the Phase status those enhancements do nothing*. Since Sonic Cage/Detention Field never applied the Intangible status they were never able to utilize those enhancements.

*The visual effect and removal of collision detection boxes still seems to be linked to the old intangible effect mechanics. An unenhanced Dimension Shift will not appear to affect an even level boss mob (because it is only mag 3 and the visual effects will not kick in), however that boss is phased.

I'd also venture to say that is a play style problem, since I don't have this issue. Imps have controller levels of hit points. All you have to do is make sure that there aren't any spread out spawns in an area before aggroing and if there are gather them together before using Fire Cages. Provoke from the presence pool is an excellent way to do this.

I'm also wondering if you are running Tactics. The perception increase in tactics will make imps run around like dervishes if you haven't taken the time to gather up spread out spawns.

I occasionally have a single Imp run out of dispersion if I'm not paying attention but usually can reposition myself to cover all three.
The imps have a notorious reputation as aggro monkeys so I doubt that it's just my playstyle affecting it. Also, as you noted, the trouble with their aggro management is complicated by the common and useful Tactics. When I spot a rough grouping I much prefer to despawn the imps, gather the mobs, lock them down, and resummon. Maybe it's not as efficient, but to me it's easier.

Additionally, outside of the imps, how much do controller pets benefit from forcefields? Stoney and Singularity are both very survivable already. Phantasm seems to avoid most aggro problems with its decoy. The one pet I could see garner a good bit from the shields is Jack.

Getting back on topic to mind/ff, I would say that I find it a little underwhelming compared to other control/ff combos. Like I mentioned before I have used forcefields for the ease of soft capping defense, a matter most important when initially aggroing mobs. Mind can mitigate the alpha strike without taking aggro though so the defense becomes somewhat less important when the mobs are spending their heavy hitters on one another. Also, when you can pinpoint mezzers and make them work for you the mez protection doesn't seem as valuable.

That's not to say that those things are rendered completely useless by mind. On a team you're sure to be welcomed for both your primary and secondary and the redundancy of the protection you offer will ensure everyone's safety.

When solo the best thing about a /FF controller is the ability to use those powerful ally buffs on your pets, something that my FF/Dark/Dark defender doesn't get to do and still survives better than many other toons.
I strongly disagree with this. I have a fire/ff at 50 and a plant/ff currently working up through the early 40's. I've found buffing the imps to largely be a waste of time. If they aggro something that I haven't controlled or I'm unable to throw controls at quickly they're usually taking a dirt nap. The 20-something% defense from shields and maneuvers makes them a little sturdier, but not much. And with the plant/ff, I skipped the shields entirely because the flytrap isn't that great of a pet with or without defenses.

Using forcefields for a solo build allows me three things: ease hitting the soft cap for defense, mez protection, and flexible power choice due to few must have powers. All of these things, I would say, are much better than having shields to throw on your pet.
  21. As I popped through the bargain bin I saw a familar title: Popotan. So here's my mini-review.

At the heart of Popotan there's an interesting story about three sisters finding their place while traveling through time. However, there are so many elements that fail to mesh or even make sense that the story falls short. There is a good deal of fan-service and unneccesary nudity that also distracts from the better elements. (I learned later, much to my surprise, that it was based on an ero-game.)

So what's good about it? It does occasionally hit a strong note with the story. One arc in particular in which the middle sister meets an old friend's daughter was quite touching. Other than that it doesn't do anything exceptionally well, but does manage to be adequate. Animation? Consistent, but not stunning. Character Designs? Cute, but not overly original. Music? Poppy, you'll either like it or want to drill your ears.

Overall, it's just ok. If you have a few hours to kill and dollars to spend it might entertain you. Otherwise, don't bother.

They bring in a Belmont and you're toast. Also, if you want to be boss in SotN, I think it was the chrisagrym was a weapon with such ungodly speed that anything that stayed within your reach was soon to fall. Couple that with the armor that let you regenerate just for moving around and you became pretty boss.

    Make me a !!!

I find the controller boards have been swamped at times asking for people to review builds for various fire/kins. Of course, people could take the time to read the many topics already created and ascertain information for themselves, but for some reason that doesn't have the appeal of making a new thread about the same old subject. If only there were some place these people could find some sort of guide to what they want... hmm.
