Quote:Which is better? That's a tough question to answer because of the variety of secondaries available to controllers and the individual builds. Are they using SO's or are they twinked out with lots of sets? What are you using it for? Regular team play, solo'ing, or farming? You'll have to narrow it down if you want a direct comparison.whats better a plant/thron dom or a plant troller, and which is more fun, why, give everything! and also whats the best secondary for a plant troller?
thanks
Which is more fun? That depends on your playstyle. I personally have enjoyed controllers much more than any doms I have attempted. I haven't taken a dom beyond level 35 though. For me they're very up and down and I found myself without a blue bar much more often that on a controller. I also tend to veer away from melee, but that's where doms get some of their best damage. Some say doms' playstyle is comparative to a blaster with holds.
For Plant controllers there are some very good choices for secondaries. Kinetics can boost your killspeed a good bit. Rad can also speed up your defeats, but also makes a good contribution to your safety. Storm mixes well with plant to create a sort of Jack of all trades. Those are the three that you'll probably see recommended most often. -
Quote:Drop Fire Blast before you consider dropping Fireball. A hardy single target blast if your focused on solo'ing, but since this is obviously a team build take advantage of the damage you can contribute with Fireball.Well lets see. I get to choose 24 powers over my career, unless Im mistaken. I want to get a travel power (thats two pools powers, probobly combat jumping and super jump) obviously 3 from fitness (swift, health, stamina), and 4 from fire mastery (rise of the phoenix, fire blast, fire ball, consume). That leaves 15 powers. there are 18 main powes, so I need to skip 3 of them. I plan to skip crystals, stone prison, and one thermal power. I'm unsure of which one though, and if I cant decide, I'll drop fire ball. Sound good?

Durarara is one that slipped past me, but I'm really digging it since I've caught up. It's weaving a lot of characters into what I hope becomes an intricate and fulfilling plot.
And stay away from Chu-bra lest the feds kick your door in. -
Quote:Just a note on Dimension Shift, it will affect bosses, AV's and even GM's with no Intangibility slotting. The target will be phased, but they will not lose their hit box or become translucent. It appears as if nothing has happened to them, but they are unable to affect the player unless they player also phases. Intangibility Enhancements only affect what is mostly a visual portion of the power, but do help to cut down on confusion about what is phased.
Dimension Shift (Level 12)
Targeted AoE Foe Phase, Immobilize
Range: 60 ft
Radius: 20 ft
Cast time: 1.17 s
Recharge time: 90 s
Endurance cost: 13
Accuracy modifier: 1.0
Mez: Mag 3 Phase; Mag 3 Immobilize
Dimension Shift has the distinction of being one of only two AoE Foe Phase powers in the game, and the only one available to Controllers (the other is Black Hole from Dark Miasma). The typical prescribed use for DS is as a panic button, but I feel that taking any power for such occasional use is wasteful. An alternative application (for which I credit Enantiodromos) would be to forego accuracy slotting and use DS to thin large groups; however, players are notoriously bad at identifying phased mobs, so you are likely to cause much grief for your teammates unless you train them to identify and ignore the untouchable bad guys, which is far easier said than done as the FX for Dimension Shift are indistinguishable from those of the other Gravity powers to anyone who doesn't know what to look for. I personally don't see it as worth the effort.
It should be noted that, unlike all other control powers, slotting to enhance Intangibility increases the magnitude of the effect, not the duration (which is fixed at 30 seconds). If you desire, you can slot DS to phase bosses. And a special note of warning; don't ever use Dimension Shift on enemies which resist Immobilize (such as wolves), as they will merrily run right up to you and further muddle the issue of which enemies can be hurt.
Rating: 1/5
Suggested slotting: 0-1 Accuracy, 0-1 Intangibility
Personally, I would recommend either an Accuracy or Recharge enhancement. Also, using generic IO's of varying levels would let someone tweak the accuracy of Dim. Shift to just where they want it some cases. -
I'm trying to give redside an honest chance again, but....
Arrrgh, Arachnos. Why do Huntsmen and Widows have such ridiculous mez protection? I ran into a Huntsman in my very first mission and I had the misfortune of not having Domination ready for him. So he punched my face a couple of times. -
Quote:I for one wouldn't mind a lot more chatter from the enemy mobs. Especially when you're helping someone else with a story arc. As is teammates miss out on the information provided by the contact and only have the mission description to read. Sure, you could hit auto-run while you fly over the zone and check it, but that hardly immerse you in the story.Okay, I thought of a simple example of the kind of thing I'm talking about. I don't ever recall two NPC's talking back and forth (text) during a mission. This happens in instances in LOTRO all the time. The game freezes everyone in place and the npc's will blab at each other for a bit. Then you kill them :P
For example, one of the epic story quests in LOTRO has you tracking down one of the Nazgul after they were washed away at the river outside of Rivendell. You find him at Helegrod which is an ancient Dwarf fortress in the Misty Mountains. The Nazgul and his servants are performing a ritual where they infuse fell spirits into the rotten corpse of the dragon Thorog who had taken over the fortress but was killed long ago. When you come upon them, they are in the middle of the ritual. You interupt them halfway through it, and Thorog flies off before coming fully under their control (killing him was a raid later in the game). Anyway it's a very cool scene.
It would be nice if they utilized mobs starting behaviors more and had them offer up more idle chat. -
Quote:Arguments needn't be "X" countered by "Y". In fact, that's generally an unproductive way of arguing. Pointing out flawed premises and logical fallacy can at least cause a person to re-examine the way the think about something. If you can reach common premises then two logical people should be able to reach the same conclusion. My method may be flawed, but that doesn't do anything to change my argument.
I'm told not to deal in absolutes, and am now presented with an absolute: That if I can't accept some social precedents I can't accept any.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. What I'm seeing in this "debate" is a bunch of people poking fun at a few words because they don't encompass EVERY eventuality. When that's not the case, I get this kind of stretching, as if it changes anything. You're arguing semantics while you understand the message. Don't like that the wording is exactly right? Tough. An opposing opinion isn't always going to measure up to exacting standards.
What aggravates me is that we're not discussing the opinions, but the exact wording, and I feel we're missing the point when it comes to that. It's wasting time and it's not dealing with the issue...
Plus, it tells me you can't come up with a proper way to defend your opposing point of view. You provide examples of it happening throughout history (which illustrated the fallibility of my absolute on its own, but you kept hamming on that like it was important), but the examples are shot down by the weight of their own end results. They illustrate my point just as readily.
You stated that social precedent had no bearing on your morality, but then cited it to support your stance, an apparent contradiction of your premises. I knocked it mostly for giggles, because I find this whole conversation about whether a fictional dude piddled his fictional granddaught amusing. -
-
You did it wrong, 37. Do it like this.
Quote:He shrugs off social precedents, but cites the norm quickly after. Still, I agree incest is yucky. You know what, I'm just going to throw this blanket response to the nitpicking and semantics...
My conviction remains unshaken. It is simply wrong to sleep with kin, I don't care the society or civilization "precedent." It has been illustrated that such behavior has led to deformities and defects. It is considered morally perverse by a great majority of modern society, and I find the notion abhorrent. -
Quote:I, for one, wouldn't burn a respect just to take Salt Crystals. The difference between Salt Crystals and Stalagmites is only 4 levels so it's not like it's a long, brutal haul. I would only consider SC for a solo build or a mule for purples. So, I made a new Troller on Pinnacle name Molten Moira. She is Stone Control/Thermal Radiation, and a real lowbie (only 10 at the time Im writing this). I've played Scrappers, Blasters, and Defenders for years, but Im relatively new to playing controllers, and was wondering if anyone had any specific advice for a troller with this power set (any advice on powers, general gameplay, etc). So far my plan is to get all Stone powers besides Quicksand and Stone Prison (I chose Salt Crystals. I know AoE sleep isnt great, but I wanted it for some crowd control at a low lvl, and I'm respeccing out when I have stalagmites and earthquake), and get all thermal powers except melt armor, as stone control does decent defence Debuff unless I'm mistaken, and heat exhaustion. I'm unfamiliar with controller epic pools, so if someone could list all the stone and fire mastery powers for trollers, I'd apprectiate that as well. If you see any flaws in that plan, or have any advice whatsoever, please reply. Thanks!
Also, Quicksand is a massive 25% defense debuff and -runspeed. It's definitely worth taking, but requires a bit of thought in early levels. Drop it at a corner and pull the enemy around. Then everyone with Sands of Mu has a nice tightly bunched group with lowered defense to smash in the face.
Heat Exhaustion is a good power for AV and GM fights and is generally useful even for bosses. Bear in mind that in addition to a -regen debuff on par with Lingering Radition, it also debuffs damage by 50% (though this is resisted at times). Also, Melt Armor is more than just a defense debuff. It also debuffs resistance, which you could consider as a damage buff for the whole team. It's also the only place outside of earthquake that you would be able to slot the very good Achilles' Heel: -resistance proc outside of Earthquake.
As for epics, here's a quick rundown of the two you were thinking off.
Stone Mastery+ High smashing/lethal defense-based armor.
Fire Mastery
+ Good AoE attack with chance to stun.
+ Self-heal in Earth's Embrace.
+ Very strong melee attack that is also a mag 4 hold.
- Rock Armor is ugly and blocks your costume.
- Hurl Boulder is very slow.+ Fireball!
I generally like Stone Mastery with Earth Control for the chance to stack stuns and it does some decent damage. The armor also helps a lot with survivability. Fire Mastery offers a bit better AoE damage with Fireball. Being able to self-rez and rez others will help to keep everyone on their feet. Consume is nice, considering Earth Contol's heavy endurance costs. Both are pretty good choices.
+ Fireblast is a good single target blast.
+ Consume helps with endurance management.
+ Rise of the Phoenix.
- Resistance base armor. -

Quote:You need to stack 50+ magnitude to hold an av through purple triangles. It's possible with some perma-doms and a few controller builds. A defender's holds don't have enough duration to stack close to the magnitude even with the benefit of Benumb. Even assuming you hold it, that doesn't equate to defeating the AV. That's almost a completely different challenge.Ok, iv been reading up on how people strive to solo AVs and GMs, and I have a few questions about this, apperant focus people give to this issue.
First off, im on a quest to kill AVs, just for S&Gs, with a Cold/Ice Defender.
Wouldnt it be possible to run in with a Cold/Ice/Energy Build and kick the **** out of a AV?
Bitter Freeze Ray, Freeze Ray, Freeze Ray, Freeze Ray.....If the little freak aint held by now, then damn.
Is it possible to get enough Recharge, and Hold Duration to control the entire fight of a AV?If its not possible, then I guess there would be no point eh?
If it is possible, then id be more then happy to use my blasts on it, inbetween Freeze Rays, and hit him with Total Focus for extra damage.Ice Storm will be in effect while im having some hang time by the use of Focus, so no damage will be lost on the worshiped DPS Chain Scales.
How possible would a build like this be in taking out a AV?Either way, im going to try, reguardless of the answer.Im curious because I can hold Bosses like they are jokes with my Cold/Ice Defender as it is, and Freezing Ray takes a surprisingly small amount of Endurance to fire off.
Also, in the past, iv taken out a few AVs with a Fire/Fire Tanker solo before, (Silver Mantis, and the Pastron Robot in the RWZ to name a couple) so thats why I want to try something a little diffrent this time around. -
Quote:If you're using Scorpion Shield and Invisible for the defense, why not move the 3 slots of Shield Wall out of PFF and into Invisibility? They seem a bit wasted in PFF. Using them both as a panic button when you have PFF seems a bit odd as well. It's not like you'll be able to attack while using Invis. Heck, I'd go as far as moving them into Stealth for some defense while you're still able to attack.Actually I was focusing on HP, Damage, Recovery and Recharge; Regen bonuses are simply a biproduct of set bonuses.
I have both Scorp shield and Invis bound to a macro for extra defense..this is my "Oh ****" macro (seriously, It's labeled OSHT.)
I appreciate the feedback, any seasoned Dom builders out there?
I'd also recommend relocating the extra slot from Hurdle and Superspeed (since you have no appreciable ranged defenese). There are several other places that you could place those two slots for an additional HP, defense, or damage bonus. -
Could the "Dark Mirror" acutally be a duplicate of our heroes created by Nemesis to provoke trouble in Praetoria? Didn't he send duplicates of our dimension's heroes to start the Rikti war?
-
I'm afraid not, my friend. Gravity Distortion roots that boss firmly in place, granting -100 mag knockback and knockup for 10 seconds. I think you're thinking of the fun to be had with Dominate, Levitate, Dominate. This is just another one of my peeves with Gravity Control.
-
Quote:I'll preface this by saying that I've been cruising the Dom boards lately trying to get a feel for how folks build there doms so I may not be the best source of information. My actual dom experience is pretty limited. This is my current build.

Can anyone offer some advice, build, etc.. or am I better off sticking with scorpion and the build I currently have?
This build is strictly for PvE. I have no intention of PvPing with it now or ever in the near future. As you can see infamy isn't much of a problem, however I'd like to steer clear of some of the more expensive PvP IOs.
Thank you,
Green Scare
When I looked at your build it was obvious that your shooting for regen bonuses. I think you made some odd choices along the way though. For example, the bonuses you gain from using Shield Wall in PFF only grant you an extra .8 hp regenerated per second. You've got a similar situation in Stamina; you only gain 20 hp, or about .3 hp a second with your regeneration. You may also want to note that the Heal and Heal/Endurance IO's in Health are currently boosting the regeneration from Numina's +regen/+recovery. Currently, the build on test corrects this and those bonuses will only apply to Health itself in the future.
I also question why you have stealth, superspeed, and Invisibility. Stealth and Superspeed will make you invisibile to virtually all pve mobs. You may find more utility in Grant Invisibility, allowing your teammates to stealth to mission objectives with you. -
Quote:Wow. You even contradicted yourself. You really should proofread your posts, F_M.Theres a few key things to remember about Fire/Kins.
1) Not everyone can farm with one, it simply doesnt fit everyones playing style.
2) This Controller is rather fragile compaired to other controllers, and can only Solo certain missions and use them as farms.
3) Unless you have someone PLing you up, your more then likly going to hate this combonation, because it takes a long time to get any power. Not to mention its a Stamina Hog for a long time as well.
While these are commonly seen as issues with Fire/Kins, I can tell you from experiance, that Fulcrum Shift is the diffrent between the 2, as well as Fire/Rad having tons more survivability for a small lacking of damage, and slower movement speed.(Same Recharge buffer though)
Personally having a Fire/Rad allows me to tell you this from Experiance. If you wanted a solid, farmable Controller, and not want to worry about a single slip up face planting you like it can a Fire/Kin, thne this would be the controller for you.
Another perk, is that so far, I havnt been unable to solo anything yet.Where as a Fire/Kin has to be selective, or they are Epic Fails.
With AE in full swing for farms, im rather surprised to see people making Fire/Kins at all.Considering that you can farm with a massive list of things due to AE now days.
Anyway, OP, a fire/rad can be quite an impressive build, especially when you have multiple fire/rads working together. Rad complements the damage in fire control by adding +dam from Accelerate Metabolism and -res in Enervating Field. Also, Accelerate Metabolism helps to offset the heavy endurance cost of Hotfeet and Fire Cages.
It's not as damage heavy as fire/kin, but fire/rad is definitely a more damage oriented build than most controllers. I also feel that it tends to be a bit more versatile than a fire/kin, offering more team safety. It's a very nice all-arounder. -
I like being able to stealth missions, especially on some of those Shard TF's. You're likely to have a very tight build though so you may want to go the Superspeed + Stealth IO route. That gives you enough stealth to bypass most mobs without burning a power selection.

Quote:Hmm, I read that as having a bit of a snide tone to it, almost as if one thought I didn't know the meaning of the word mediocre.http://www.thefreedictionary.com/mediocre
2. mediocre - lacking exceptional quality or ability; "a novel of average merit"; "only a fair performance of the sonata"; "in fair health"; "the caliber of the students has gone from mediocre to above average"; "the performance was middling at best"
middling, average, fair
Now you can boggle at actual word definitions.
Oh well, let's look at some numbers. Controllers have access to 4 AoE stuns: Stalagmites, Flashfire, Wormhole, and Thunder Clap.
- Thunder Clap: 25 foot radius, 45 second recharge, 60% base accuracy, only mag 2, 2.37 second activation.
- Wormhole: 15 foot radius, 90 second recharge, 75% base accuracy, mag 3, 14.5 mag knockback, and enemy teleport, 3 second activation.
- Flashfire: 25 foot radius, 90 second recharge, 60% base accuracy, mag 3 stun, 2.37 second activation.
- Stalagmites: 25 foot radius, 90 second recharge, 60% base accuracy, mag 3 stun, -20% defense debuff, 2.1 second activation.
Stalagmites is the same as all the other stuns in recharge, save Thunder Clap which is only a mag 2 stun and PBAoE. It beats all other stuns in its activation times. It offers a considerable secondary benefit in a defense debuff. It can be used without worrying about placement, unlike Wormhole.
It may only be better than the others by a bit, but it still remains the best AoE stun available to controllers.
Edit: I forgot about Fissure, with its 50% chance for a mag 2 stun, and Repulsion Bomb, with a 40% chance of a mag 2 stun. -
Word. When I read that I boggled for a moment. Stalagmites is far from mediocre. It's Earth's bread and butter control.
Anyway, having played both an Earth/Storm and Plant/Storm to 50, I'll admit there's a synergy to Earth/Storm that Plant/Storm lacks. However, Plant/Storm is far, far from lacking. The high damage from Creepers and Roots coupled with the every spawn debuff in Freezing Rain works very nicely. Spamming Roots for damage also keeps things in place for Tornado. Slows from Creepers and Snow Storm stack to bring the enemies to a halt. Perhaps, these things could be considered synergy between Plant and Storm.
Both combinations will have a wide variety of controls to handle situations so either is a solid choice. -

Toggle it on. You're now extremely stealthy! YAY!
However:- You can't move, or it shuts off.

- You can't attack anyone (which would provoke a hostile response), or it will shut off.
Or am I missing something? -

Maybe that's one of my redside off-putters. It never seemed right to be the Big Bad, but need 7 other people to take down one of Recluse's lackeys. Or to be the lackey.
Point me in the direction of the middle ground and I'll give it a try. -
Quote:I suspect that at least Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning, if not others, will be available on Live before GR releases. Dual Pistols is available on test right now. I wouldn't be surprised if Demon Summoning begins testing next month. Those are both available for people that haven't pre-ordered anything. That gives each one a good month of testing before it would hit Live for pre-orderers, March for Dual Pistols and April for Demon Summoning.Pre-order GR: Get to test Powersets when they hit test early.
Collectors: Much the same as CoH and CoV Collecters had unique items. Plus powerset testing.
The powersets, in other words, arent going to hit live until GR releases. In July.
Also, though perhaps not a strong point, early test access does appear very enticing in comparison to the goodies packed with the complete collection. If you can only have one or the other without purchasing two copies of GR, I will hold out for the complete collection. -

Ah, it took me a bit to find this one again. But just as a little FYI, the current patch notes for test indicate that they're clearing up that little bug with Numina's +regen/+recovery. Healing enhancements will no longer effect it. Anyone that was considering that option should probably rule it out considering it'll mean burning a respec down the road.
