Care to expand on that? Because as I'm seeing it, in a build I've been tinkering with I don't slot for regen at all and it is only 4 hp/sec behind the results you get while slotting for regen in health. In one minute, you regen about half a Transfusion's worth of health more than my build. Why wait for it when you can just heal yourself? With capped defense, it shouldn't happen enough to slow you down.

Silas already pointed out the flaw with your proc slotting. So I'll toss out the fact, that the build that follows caps defense and only trails yours by 10% without going beyond a single purple set. I'll grant that it does use some expensive pieces especially in LotG: Recharge. Still it's not far off from your build while be much more easily attainable. In my, eyes even this is pretty flawed, but it would do quite fine for farming.

i will however say that i cannot recommend Kiss X Sis. i watched 3 episodes of it, got turned off by how it was far too much ecchi, not enough comedy, and no real story to speak of, so i dropped it.
B Gata H Kei is quite amusing. I'm also enjoying Arakawa Under the Bridge, though honestly I'm getting a little bored with the voice actor pairing up with Shaft. Working!! has my nod of approval and Durarara, though not as strong as the first half, is still quite interesting. Angel Beats didn't click with me in the 2 episodes I gave it. I gave Ichiban Ushiro No Daimaou one episode (even Tomatsu Haruka couldn't bring me back to it).

I'll have to check out Kaichou was Maid-sama. The premise didn't catch me, but maybe it's better than I gave it credit for.
  3. Solo? Yes. Everything can solo at some setting. Farm? Probably not. Farming generally means defeating a large number of weak foes quickly. Gravity provides stronger single target damage and only average AoE damage.

Any particular reason for pairing with cold? Storm shares quite a few powers* with it and has some tricks that work well with Gravity, for example stacking stuns with Thunder Clap or Wormholing mobs into a corner where you pin them with Hurricane. If you intend to solo a great deal I would favor Grav/Storm, but on teams Cold Domination is an excellent buff set.

*Snow Storm is in both sets. Arctic Fog is essentially Steamy Mists. Sleet is the equivalent of Freezing Rain.
  4. If it fits your concept, go for it. I can easily see Gravity fitting the bill for magnetic powers. On secondaries, I could justify a number of them including Kinetics, Forcefield, Sonic, or Radiation. Power customization has really opened up how we play up our powers.

The only reason I give caution is that sometimes a very un-fun set can turn you off of a cool concept.
  5. Grav/kin was my first controller... then I left the game for a while. Gravity was then the last control primary I took to level 50. I don't want to tell you to run screaming from the set, but I would advise maybe shelving it for a bit. Castle has stated that they're looking at the animations and some of Gravity's issues. If you can wait for that, then your first experience with Gravity might not sour you to the set like it did for me.
  6. I find it odd that no one has suggested proc's for Roots since FS takes care of damage for the most part or proc's for Carrion Creepers which greatly benefit from the extra damage.

To expand on what MM has said, I'll drop this link. Now, let's look at two big points here when you deal 50% of the damage and when you receive 50% of the xp.

At 50% of the damage dealt, you're earning 80% of the experience.
At 50% of the xp earned, you're only dealing 20% of the damage.

At low levels before AT modifier's come into full swing a controller's damage is most similar to everyone else. However, you now have the advantage that you only have to do a portion of the work to gain the majority of the experience. Unless you stand back and do next to nothing, Seeds can only increase your xp/time ratio. In fact, at lower levels confusion can be less detrimental because bosses and lieutenants have fewer AoE powers to damage the entire mob. At higher levels, you should be able to contribute considerable damage with Roots, Carrion Creepers, and Fissure... especially with Fulcrum Shift.

    Gravity woo!!

Gravity was the last control set I ran to 50. My experience was very similar to Local's, particularly on teams. Though I'd add that not only did Propel's animation bother me, but Wormhole's did as well. Often times I'd see a cozy nook ideal for placing a spawn, but the team had already engaged them making the placement more of a nuisance than a benefit.

I just finished watching this... and it's a disjointed mess. I checked out a few manga scans and it seems like it went through some serious adaptation degradation.

Edit: Finished the manga today. While better than the anime, the manga still features a jerky and inconsistent plot. Characters are introduced without much development and used more as plot devices. Things either make little sense or are explained in exposition. Poor plot development, some disturbing scenarios, and a depressing conclusion makes this one a definite pass in my book. A word of warning to anyone that decides to watch the series, it ends less than halfway through the story and give no closure.

When you get into purples, it's really hard to pair down a price tag. The cheapest ones there (Absolute Amazement) run about 60 mil for a single piece. Some of the more in demand pieces go for 100-150 mil. Assuming a modest value of 100 mil for a purple that build is going to cost more than 3 billion.

Beyond that, it's also a fairly flawed build. Slots are wasted in Siphon Speed in order to gain a defense bonus and it relies on an old bug that allowed the +Regen from Numina's and Regenerative Tissue to be enhanced by Heal enhancements in the same power. For all the influence needed to throw into you can achieve better results with a cheaper build.
  11. That Lewis... such a good man.

I'd make a few tweaks to his build, mostly slotting Fire Cages for damage and endurance. Though I'd also drop Reactive Armor out of Tough, and move 3 slots to Boxing for Smashing Haymaker. Then you can toss the extra slot into Hot Feet with a proc. You'll lose just a touch of recharge, but you'll stay at the soft cap and do more damage.

Most importantly, this build is easily obtainable, a.k.a. cheap.

    As for your question:

Yes, 2 billion is a lot... and yet not a lot. It depends on who you ask. I made 1 billion with my main a few months ago and have used that to IO a few other toons. However, I also ran a lot of TF's and used merit rolls to acquire a lot of the pieces I need. However, there are PVP IO's out there that sell for 2 billion.

Fire/kins were the farmers even before IO's hit. Now they just do it better. Remember that all the current content is balanced around using SO's.

Lewis's build is relatively cheap. The Miracle: Recovery, as I said, will run about 100 million. If you are patient with your bids I would say you could have the whole build for less than 500 million easily. Heck, I even want to say 300 million.
  12. Whoooo.... expensive, and not even a very good build.

Luck of the Gambler: Recharge's were selling for around 100 mil the last time I had checked. Absolute Amazement is one of the cheaper purple sets so each piece of it will sell for around 50-60 mil. Gaze of the Basilisk you should be able to get most pieces fairly reasonably, but the last time I saw the quad piece for sale it was running 100+ mil. Miracle: Recovery is easily 100+ mil. I would place my guess well over 1.5 billion.

There are a lot of odd ball things going on with that build too. The Regenerative Tissue in Health is unnecessary. Slotting Jump in Inertial Reduction is mostly pointless. Siphon Power is an odd pick when you have Fulcrum Shift up every 20-some seconds. I assume that the power order is just random and not for leveling up, in which case it would be very poor.

I do this pretty often. Sometimes the nature of the character unfolds as you play rather than being there from the start.
  14. First, let me say welcome back. It's good to see folks returning to the game.

Fire/Rad is an excellent combination. In fact, it's one that, if built correctly, can solo a few AV's. It's also a very good team player. It doesn't pair up with the speed of a fire/kin for farming, but it does defeat foes quite quickly for a controller and offers a good deal more safety. A team of fire/rads holds the record for speed on the Statesman's Task Force, if I recall correctly.

Right now, there's another thread that has a few builds posted in it that you may want to check out: here. And there's some good advice given here and here. It may also interest you to know that there is currently a super team going on Freedom for Fire/Rads. Get in touch with Hyperstrike for more information about that.

As for your budget, for a few billion you should be able to build a fairly decent build. There are a few things that may be suggested that are particularly expensive, such as the Miracle: +Recovery proc, that you may wish to purchase outright with merits.

Malaise's Illusion proc will draw aggro when it fires even if the enemy is not effected by the confuse. The Cimeroreans are a good example of a case in which the proc could fire and draw aggro, but not confuse the target. Or any boss mob.

(I don't see very many mind controllers these days because of those confuses).
I have a mind/rad, a mind/kin, a plant/storm, and plant/ff so I tend to throw around a lot of confusion. In that time I have never seen the enemy's buffed by player buffs. Even if this bug exists the chance of it occurring must be miniscule.

Putting that aside, I'll give you my take on mind/kin. Two words. Very clicky. Mind offers a good variety of single target controls that you will use quite often. By itself it's an active set. Coupled with Kinetics, which is also an active set, you can find yourself overwhelmed with options.

Make things easier on yourself by being smart with your kinetics powers. Buffing the whole team at once can be be tedious so break it into two tasks. Use ID on the folks without mez protection. The tanks and scrappers are likely to have their own and the 25% resistance to smashing/energy shouldn't be making or breaking the team. Also, remember you don't need to have ID on people indefinitely. You can hit them just before the tank goes in. Even better, just confuse the mezzers.

Solo mezzing and moving in for Fulcrum Shift will be fine. On teams, you either need to communicate this tactic to everyone or play from range.

It sounds like you use Confuse often in situations where you need it to be aggro-free. I've read that when the Contagious Confusion proc fires, it will get you aggro. So, that could be a bad idea for you. You'll probably want to get verification on that (and I'd be interested to know as well), but if that's true, you'll probably want to avoid that one.

Tested and confirmed that Contagious Confusion doesn't aggro mobs. This is the second time I've heard this rumor and I don't know where it's coming from.

Of course, the counter-point to this is I see all the recipes and enhancements. So, when I'm shopping around not only can I consider cheap recipes, but if the enhancement is going for cheap then I can avoid inventing it at all. So for many of us, it becomes a time saver.

What Terrify I think will be for you is a decent source of extra damage and a great, damage reducing soft control - I really don't see a 20% knockdown rate providing any real mitigation here.

Put another way, it's not enough mitigation that I would let my no defense controller get whacked by an entire spawn by attacking it fresh, and if the spawn in engaged/confused, you don't need a bit more instant mitigation - Terrify will do that over the long haul by having the whole team get attacked a lot less. If you don't want the recharge, you might as well take a damage proc, imo.
In a vacuum it doesn't seem very effective, but when you consider the other controls layered on top it becomes much better mitigation than you seem to think. With Mass Hypnosis going first, you've already taken out a portion of the spawn. Anyone not hit with Terrify won't be firing back. Confuse a boss or lieutenant. They're out. Terrify. One fifth of the enemies fall without firing back. When they recover, there's a good chance they'll immediately begin to cower. Even if some fire back, you've spaced out the damage a bit instead of taking one giant alpha.

It really is one of those things that seems better in practice rather than in principle.

I imagine a very different scenario in my mind. Controller holds, drains, then bottoms out the enemy's recovery. So when your controls finally give out, the mobs are still left unable to retaliate. Perhaps I'm being over optimistic.

At any rate, I would guess/hope that it would be a set somewhat like Ice in that it has some difficulty with the initial aggro, but once it's effects are in place will provide very solid control.
  22. Just a few minor notes from me.

In Terrify, I would drop the Damage/Range for a Damage/End from Posi's set. As you know, Terrify's area of effect is already pretty large. In fact, it's large enough that it's landed me in trouble a few times by aggroing adjacent mobs when I wasn't careful. Since enhancing the length of the cone also increase the width it may become unruly at its extremes.

As for the Force Feeback proc, I prefer it in Energy Torrent simply for a better chance to proc on a single application. Also, the recharge of your Energy Torrent fits ideally with the suppression time before you can gain the bonus again. I'll also second Max's recommendation of the Decimation set. I would use that in both Power Blast and Dominate.
  23. So far I've really liked the e-mail attachments. I had a number of enhancements and recipes that brough builds closer to completion, but since my characters were split between two supergroups I had no convenient means to transfer them. Now, things are where they belong.

I'm also digging the revamped Market window.

I dare to dream of a Gravity set that I won't hate. Will we see a useful Dimension Shift? Can something be done with Propel's absurd activation time?
  25. Somewhere someone did the numbers on using a third generic IO in stamina vs. the Performance Shifter proc. I believe on average the proc will regain you more endurance over time. The problem, of course, is that it may not fire at those critical moments when you would like more endurance.

By the way, your datalink isn't working. You might want to edit your original post with that or the data chunk.
