There are plenty of other examples. Suffice it to say that if you want to get the explore badges, you need some sort of vertical movement to get all of them.
and I can get to all of those on hero or villain side solo, without having to pay $$ for add ons or taking specific travel powers. not possible to do that, at least that I am aware of, in praetoria. therefore, my comment that I (personally, in my opinion) believe that should be taken into account when placing exploration badges in new content.

Based on the results I've seen I think anyone could get any Purple/PvP recipe they wanted within say 2 weeks as a worst case scenario.
    while generally true, this assumes

1 - that the purple or pvp IO is available at any price and

2 - that you get lucky with the RNG on pvp IOs selling at the maximum bid price

personally, the only IO that might be worth buying with merits is the pvp 3% to all defense. it's going to cost you 2 billion on the market and more than that off market. and if you are unlucky going the market route, your 2 billion bid could sit there a lot longer than a couple of weeks.

As I said, never done it myself.
thanks Fulmens, pretty much what I guessed would have to happen.

make sure the character selling the recipe has 0 cash on hand; trade the recipe for 2 billion influence; place a bid on something like a level 53 and then have the buyer hand you the rest of the cash. worse case, they stiff you for the amount over 2 billion and you put them on ignore but you still got 200 million more than you would have from WW with their cut

EDIT: It's a repeatable pseudorandom system, but it is very very hard to game anyway.
just curious how the off market transfer of more than 2 billion would work. isn't 2 billion the cap of what you can hold, as well as the bid cap in WW?

not that I expect to ever sell or buy one of these pvp recipes but just wondering

While I personally like 32 because I can run my 25-29 Ouroboros' things and get the benefits I don't find it significantly outweighs just getting them at 30.

But most of my nonsense is to be able to quickly buy and sell and I find the on the 5s support that best. For max profit you would definitely want to hit level 32 stuff because people who want it will pay for it. You just have to wait for those enlightened buyers.
darn you SwellGuy now you have me rethinking my strategy. I have 3 characters I rotate around on, 1 locked at 32, 1 locked at 37 and 1 at 50. I choose 32 and 37 because one of the things I enjoy most is running Ouro missions at either 25 - 29 or 30 - 34.

locking at 32 also has a couple other advantages over 30. it gets me the use of the tier 9 primary power, even with 1 slot that can be of benefit. but more importantly, it lets me roll some of my merits in the level 35 - 39 group.

but the downside is you are absolutely correct about these off levels not selling well. if I roll something that I don't want for myself, it seldom sells for all that much on the market. so my 50 makes the money, getting everything at max level for sale to others and the 32 and 37 supply me with what I want.

I have some other alts making their way up the levels. though I hadn't really intended to lock any of them, now you have me considering if I should unlock the 32 and let him level up to 35 and lock a new character at 30. it really wouldn't make a lot of difference in the enhancement values on the ones I keep for my use and sounds like it would make selling the ones I don't want more profitable

haven't gotten my hero all the way over to villain status yet but would like to clarify this to make sure I don't run into a similar problem. are you saying that we need to complete all story arcs on the hero side, not just have your mission list cleared? just to make things easier to track, I cleared my mission list and went to running just tip missions but I probably have a few story arcs that are partially done.

    thanks
  10. definitely one of the harder tip missions but certainly not impossible though will depend on your settings and what archetype you are playing.

I have beat it at +0/+8 on my broadsword / shield scrapper though I had to do a lot more running around corners than usual. another good trick is to run for the entrance door. this allows you to both recover health and endurance and some of the mobs will return to their spawn point. then you can re-enter and split up the groups a bit and work your way through them.

that said, I also face-planted pretty quick the first time I ran this mission. too used to being able to just stand in the middle of things and fight my way through it. was actually a challenge to beat without a trip to the hospital

is there any way to get the ambitious badge without having fly or SJ? appears it is on top of the building and I am not finding any doors that might let you in to an elevator and no ledges to use to scale up the outside

It would be more useful to pick up Aid Self, but I don't think I'm going to go that route. I'm not looking for absolute optimization, just optimization around a concept. We'll see how I feel after a couple months playing a concept build. I'm expecting to love it, or I wouldn't be doing it, but I could be wrong.
I know I won't be picking up Aid Self on most of my characters until they give us an alternate animation. I like to maximize my characters as much as the next guy, well except maybe not as much as you Werner , but concept is an important part of game play for me. and that tricorder animation just doesn't do it, no matter how nice it would be to have a heal on characters that don't get one in their power sets.

Do I need to add slots to the passives (the three passives are single slotted to carry LotG recharges)?

I'll play with it in MIDS and see what I can find out.

EDIT: Yep, looks like I need to add slots to the passives. I have a 50 DB/SR scrapper but I never tried not slotting the passives with her. Looks like I wind up with a little more DEF than I thought I would because of those slots, but that's OK. 95.2% DDR with 47.5 melee and ranged and 46.9 AoE will be plenty for keeping me out of trouble.

EDIT NUMBER TWO: Person34 somehow understood and answered my poorly asked question! Apparently I can't write or read well! Sheesh! Thanks to all of you that answered!
you nailed it. you do need to slot the passives to hit the 95% DDR cap and if you weren't already doing so, it will have the added benefit of pushing your defense numbers up a percentage point or so. will give you both the little extra cushion you need if hit by a debuff as well as maximum ability to shrug off that debuff

anyways that inherent stamina will be lovely!!! alos do you know if swift, hurdle and health are also gonna be inherent? and if not what will replace stamina as the tier 4 in fitness pool?
word is that the entire fitness pool will be inherent, so will free up room for 3 more powers in your build. however, slots will be at a premium as we won't be getting more slots. so most of the talk will be about powers that can get by with only the base slot or maybe 1 more slot pulled from somewhere in your current build.

but it will be huge for new SR players as you will be able to run your defense toggles right from the start and take attack powers instead of stamina prereqs on the road to 20 - 22.
  17. one other trick that you can use to get the last bit of defense you want is to run both CJ and hover at the same time. with the vastly increased speed of hover, it's no longer a problem to move around in combat and the endurance drain is not that much.

something like this might have to wait until I19 but maybe worth considering at that point

I'm not gonna switch back to Villain just to check this out, so I guess it'll go to the back burner. Thanks for the help!

As far as Lorenz goes, yeah I understand about arcs staying open, but I also have 2 other mini arcs and Marshall Brass' story arc open and they have all moved to the inactive list, yet Lorenz stays active, not sure why.
guessing this is tied to the issue that you cannot run the level 30 aura mission until after you have completed the level 20 cape mission. you indicated that you completed the cape mission red side, so betting there is something flagged tying the aura mission to Kalinda.

you mentioned that you could get the cape mission from the City Rep, did you go ahead and run that story arc? if not, you might try it and see if that will open up the aura mission from the City Rep.

this is the main draw back to kinetics. whenever I am building for smash / lethal defense and plan to slot kinetics in an attack I actually plan to use, it needs at least 5 slots or I don't bother. a 4-slotted kinetic has one of the worst set of bonuses, compared to pretty much any other IO set you could put in the power.

thanks you may just have cost me a respc!
no problem, the changes to it cost me a respec too but as SpiderTeo recommends, I wouldn't get rid of it. I think it's now your 2nd or 3rd hardest hitter and still has a 75% chance to stun. with good recharge, along with stun chances from other attacks, you still have good odds to keep something stunned. and it's also defeated a lot faster.

I will probably drop crane kick and its knock back. with the other changes they made, the eagles claw / dragon tail combo just got way better for taking on larger groups.

and with the changes on tap for I19, be prepared to respec again getting stamina as an inherent power is going to be a huge help in tight builds like MA/SR

with the changes to Cobra, wouldn't you be better served by slotting this for damage now? razzle was a good set in there when its primary focus was a 100% stun but now that the stun isn't a sure thing and damage was scaled way up, I would definitely recommend enhancing the damage side
  22. is there a badge to be earned, like in the CoH and CoV tutorial zones? I haven't found one and haven't seen reference to one in the various badge hunter updates with GR but would like to confirm that before I run all my new character concepts through the starting zones

For example, LoTG proc is 2 merits, get 1 more merit and you oculd vend 3 of them, netting yourself a fair amount.
if the OP has 4 merits now, they could get 2 LotG procs now but would need 2 more merits to get a third one.

to the OP - hunt around on this board, there are many good postings that will give you a lot of information on this topic, as well as links to some good sites that you can use to see what recipes can drop in certain ranges.

based on all the reading I have done, my personal opinion would be to wait until at least lvl 32 and then roll for recipes in the 35 - 39 range. that seems to have the best odds of getting something that will sell for a lot of inf.

but Mega presents a good option as well, depending on how lucky you feel. with 2 merits you can claim a specific recipe at a specific level (within range of your character level) that you know will sell for a lot, the LotG Mega suggested is usually a good bet.

on the other hand, with those same 2 merits you could get 10 random recipes from the 35 - 39 group. and if you hit the lottery that day, that could include a LotG or two and come out way ahead of buying 1 specific recipe.

All this being said, I'd recommend that you remember to turn it off the *second* you get into combat - one of the problems of NR is that it's an end hog, and short of set boni, there's no way to change that. pretty sure the NR has the same wall "climbing" ability that CJ has which allows you to jump up nearly vertical cliffs
