My first tanker memory goes back to the dark ages of CoH, after the GDN and ED, Before IO's , Dark days for my inv/axe tanker for sure. That didn't stop me playing it though. This was before I was on Justice too. My Tanker, Radical Raptor on Guardian. I loved charging in first, it kinda reminded me of when I played Rugby. I got all the attention I could, once everyone was trying to take a piece of me I would whirling axe, and watch as mobs start to hit the floor and bounce, leaving me as the last one standing. Brought a smile to my face and to this day, it still does.

Just managed to squeeze a few missions in there at the end, after my appointment. had to blow the dust off that server to see if i had a tank over there

I quite like being VIP , the $15 dollars a month is easily doable, even on my budget, I have bought every powerset in the game so far (though I still haven't found a Beam Rifle combo I can get in to), have most everything on the tier 9 row of the vet tree thingie (technical i know), and have access to everything the game has to offer (I'm still addicted to iTrials
), and I haven't paid a cent over my sub. Not to mention spending a few spare points on costume pieces and super packs.
So for me, everything has been 'free' because i've kept my VIP Status.
Now if Bio Armor was to come out tomorrow, I might have to wait a couple of weeks for my next stipend to come in as I am sitting at 550 odd ish, and being that the 2 blaster secondaries are going to be free, I still don't think i'll have to put any extra money down. -
Yeah, to run multiple accounts, it'll all be about the cpu, and the ram to keep them all loaded without hard drive swapping. my own (slightly aged) 4Ghz amd Quad core runs 3 accounts fairly well (mine and my wifes 2 accounts) I am also running 8gb of ram, and yes I'd stress this as a minimum as well for running 4 accounts, the second that ram is gone and the hard drives start churning for swap file space, you'll be done for
.

Here is a build i've had for a while, but he's incredibly robust. It could probably be tweaked with the new ato's coming in. concerntrated on S/L/E/N defense, just over 40% and a bit of extra +Hp.

I did, I quite like my staff/ninjitsu stalker
And its been the 2nd stalker i've ever rolled.
Yeah I haven't been too impressed with the new sets for tankers lately. That being said, there all Smashing/Lethal damage, something I shy away from on tankers, I still haven't warmed up to Super Strength.
I too found Street Justice Meh, my Electric/Titan Weapon tanker is fun, but so far, I've yet to roll another titan weapon anything. I still don't know about staff melee, I was thinking of a Fire/Staff, but I think i'll wait for the time being. -
Quote:I totally agree, If anything, i'd like to see less gimmicks, espeically in trials! Ahem!! If anything out of those sets, i'd Say Battle Axe could stand a look, possibly to up the number of targets its cones can hit, I dont understand why it was restricted in the first place.Gimmicks are not a good thing or a bad thing, they're just a thing. Gimmicks don't make a set better, just different. NOT having gimmicks in a game that seems to be increasingly more gimmick-centric, on the other hand, makes things different just the same.
Battle Axe, War Mace, Broadsword and Katana appeal to "peeps" well enough as it is. Some of us actually prefer the simpler, more straightforward melee combat of the past where I didn't have to be multi-tasking three different gimmicks at once, and all of those sets will be considerably less interesting if you tried to mess with them. The reason you see relatively fewer people use those sets is many of their animations are old and most of their effects are very underwhelming, not to mention how long it's been since some of those have gotten decent new weapons. -
This would work for me, I have starter bases on some servers, Fully worked themed bases on others, I could tinker around with some of the early ones to see how the changes work, then decide if I want to completely wipe an established base and start again.
-
Quote:Exactly. Although I wouldn't leave the game, I too have spent HOURS simply experimenting with the best combinations of parts to use in the base to achieve effects, A believable starfield is tricky to pull off and I would rather not have to go through that again. Here's an early picture during my base construction to show you what I meanHave you seen some of the bases people have made? I'm pretty sure wiping all current bases would result in quite a few long time players simply quitting the game, never to return.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure more time was put into that base than most 50s.
-
Yeah, rolled my first ever Street Justice Character for TT...T ?
got it to lvl 13! thankyou fellow tankers. I can repay those levels on champion next week if anyone is interested

I've never liked the look of Kings Row, yeah sure it could be a gritty underclass suburb of a place, but with the current graphics, its flat, dull and uninteresting to me. I have often remarked that it could be rended on a 256 colour grey scale and not look any different, or take a photo of it with your camera on Sepia and it'll look the same. Gah! Keep it what it is, but lets get the better textures and graphics that we see in Praetoria. Gold side was done so well, I still don't think Atlas Park stands up to it.
After kings I'd say Steel. lets see some mountainous almost completely reflective and window lined skyscrapers in there, Steel could be AMAZING!!! but im not saying its not bad now.. I don't mind steel canyon -

I would love to run the new trial. I haven't seen it yet, Not sure if i'll make it though, I have an appointment that day >.<

Would it still be lag if they changed their global 6 months ago and its still coming up differently? I hear what you are saying though, that the game would keep track of such things.
-
yes I was using add note and get global name, each gave me different results to the same character that was right in front of me. I did a bit of quizzing and I do believe it was because the global was changed. Question is still, why are they different? what in this game isn't updating?
-
I have seen this happen on more than one occasion, and did lead to a case of mistaken identity some time ago. Globals! Now this isn't a case of 'oh the global server is down' yada yada yada, because its happened over years and consistantly.
Basically, its this.
I see global name in channel, I join team. I right click the person its supposed to be, but the global is different. Puzzled I right click name in chat , its still this different global. However i right click person to request global, its the original one, different to the edit box I just opened O.O I took a screen shot but I don't think i can post it on the forums. These people aren't in my global lists either, So.....
What the heck did I just look at?? How does someone end up with 2 different globals? -
The March of the Tankers
(you can hear them coming for miles!) xD Sorry I missed Infinity, I'll be more awake for the next ones I promise. Triumph huh, Hmm, I might not have a tanker there actually, i'll check it out.

Mine started with cardiac, after all, that rage crash does hurt a little, plus it boosts your resists a bit. Quite nice.
However I switched to agility once it was available. On my build I was already just over softcapped with 1 in range, agility pushed that to 52% (like a rock on trials) the extra recharge gives me 3 stacked rage at times, but make sure you can cover the endurance use. I was a touch hard on my blue bar but the small boost you get from agility was enough to cover it.
Remember, Cardiac affects all your powers that cost endurance and thus gives you the best end management. Agility only effects end modification powers, in this case, Stamina and physical perfection, only!
I usually go by something like this 'If I can cover my endurance use already, there's a good chance I can handle the extra recharge with agility' -
Hehe, us tankers get a bit hyped when someone asks which one is better than the other! There's a reason for the enthusiasm... They are all good
For me, in my experience (and this is coming from someone who turned their back to invuln in the past), I'd still have to tip the scale to invuln. However, they both have their merits. Some of this I put forth before.
Ignoring the fact that it is way easier to reach softcap defense levels for an invuln, it has something that protects the billions, you might of spent on IO's getting there, Defense Debuff Resistance. This helps protect you from the cascading defense failures people talk about. I myself have seen my fire tanker (which usually sits at 38% defense) go to -100% defense.
Also, if like me you boost not only your E/NE defense, but also your F/C defense, you also bring up your ranged and AoE defense, my inv/ss has 30% ranged and aoe thanks to the work going into N/E/F/C defense, one small purple and i've effectively got all the psi defense I need (I know, some of it isn't positional) . However, rarely have i used a purple for this.
Electricity..I quite like it. I have recently rediscovered my elec/elec tanker, I made him elec/elec/Mu for the electrical version of fireball (ball lightning), but it had an added side effect, I can leap into mobs and drain them all before taking too much of a pounding (the character is still being worked on). I also like that it has an unstoppable equivelent, even though many advocate against the power.
Elec has great resists (as discussed), this does give you a nice base to build on. I say build on because you'll be 500 times stronger by mixing in defense. survivability is all about layers
A fast acting heal. Not as fast as fire, but faster than Dull Pain. It does not boost total HP, but it does give you something, a 30 second buff to regen and an endurance discount. Now I have built one to the point that regen became perma, but I wouldn't like to be the lead tanker in trials with it. It was all built just for speed, nothing else.
However, a decent build with some recharge will have that regen boost running 50% of the time you are fighting. Throw in some defense, and this starts to look quite yummie.
To the OP, you can basically ignore all of this. Its just the experience i've had in game and the opinion of my mind. The fact is that thanks to the invention system, you'll be able to make any tanker, the lead tanker on trials or task forces. I've lead trials on my fire tanker without issue, and not so long ago people would tell you that fire can't tank anything but fire, and indeed, it took me several years of playing before I finally made one, I'm glad I did, its very fun. Indeed my new fire/fire/pyre tanker is taking up my No.2 spot on my favourite list. I'm not afraid to jump into anything with it. Now if I were restricted to SO's I might.
Also, don't forget that on trials, there will be a plethora of team mates, some not as experienced or as built as others for sure, but I guarantee you'll at least get SOMETHING that'll help you survive.
A well built tank is just that, a well built tank, and thats something everyone can appreciate.
Use any primary or secondary that you wish, check the forums, come up with a good build, and you'll be set. I don't think any one tank is perfect in any situation, but there are always other variables.
Create something to a theme and go with it. I personally find theme to be more important, as I often get bored or frustrated with characters that don't match. -
Quote:THAT, is truely troublingCould be worse. Could be valve time.
wow!
-
Is the Might of the tanker set really useful? How well does that +resistance proc work?
-
For all out toughness, I might have to tip my hand to Invuln. the set on its own can grant almost 30% defense with Invinicibility flooded. As hyper mentioned, invuln is quite easy to softcap to everything but psi, My own Inv/SS tanker sits at 48% defense to all but psi with just 1 enemy in range of invinicibility, gets to nearly 60% defense when flooded.
However, Electric is still fun, has a fast acting heal (and the resulting regen can be perma with the right build) and does have good resists.
They're both fun, they can both be tough, pick one and go with it. Hell I just soloed the 'Find Statesman' map at x8+1 with lvl 51 AV's (Malaise and Mother Mayhem) on my Fire/Fire/Pyre tanker (and it doesn't have anything but alpha slotted either). -
Quote:This, I don't see the need for movies to be 3D really, but I get a kick out of firing up some games in 3D thanks to nVidia's drivers. As others have mentioned, since CoH OpenGL, its not supported >.< . oh wellI don't particularly care about 3D in film. In games, though, I tend to enjoy it. I'd be really happy if CoH received some 3D support and we could travel through the city with real depth and perspective.
Hmm.. wonder if there is a generic openGL wrapper around.... To the Google!
Edit- Well, there's at least one, though someone already mentioned City of Heroes not working >.<
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...ic=198042&st=0
here's hoping -
I'm sure all this has been brought up before, so i'll be brief. I still put Unstoppable in my invuln builds. Even my latest which has 48% defense to all but Psi with 1 mob in range of invinicibility. The reasons are the usual really,
1) it does cap your resistance to most all the colourful stuff out there, handy in odd places
2) it offers its own Mez protection. More often than not, i've had to hit unstoppable due to an unexpected toggle drop in a dangerous mob, hit unstoppable, keep on going like nothing happened. OR there happens to be a LOT of mez flying around. Quite often now in new content im finding im hitting my limit on mez protection, need a quick boost cause someone pulled a mob? no breakies? if you need it, you got it.
3) Endurance buff. Yeah you heard me, I've used it for that too. Although invuln has been buffed in the area of end drain, its still had its moments. Even though many of you will have, conserve power or physical perfection, unstoppable is still a good emergency option.
The only draw back of course, is the crash. but this is only a temporary power, to be used in unusual situations.
But, all this for a power that you can either leave with its default slot, or use it as a slot mule. the choice is yours -
Yeah I prefer that fire is WAY less resisted than smashing/lethal. To be quite honest, I shy away from any S/L set anymore, even titan weapons has had a rough time trying to warm me to it. As for which one is better, eh, they're both good really
both the primaries and secondaries mentioned (and if either were mixed as well) are well used, and with good reason
