I tend to have better luck with Flytrap. Though sometimes if he decides to go off on his own and gets pummelled for it, I usually mumble something about 'see thats what you get' then proceed to lock down mob.
As my first 50 controller I learnt on that controller first that there is a time to put pets away.
One easy example is the first mission on the ITF. When everyone leaps up to the altar instead of walking around, agro'ing the nictus. Dismiss him before you make that leap, or he'll decide to go the long way and agro everything.
So we have Twitchy, OmNom (cute btw), any others? I'll put mine down, I just call him 'Trappy'

Awesome write up, been a great read. I should of done something like this as I leveled up mine.
I already had several controllers, none of them (still) are 50 but one or two were close, I decide to make a kind of nature spirit so in keeping with a theme I went Plant/Storm. To echo everyone else, by level 8, you're pretty much set, seeds/roots then damage. Then later, Seeds/Roots/Freezing rain. It was a VERY fun ride, and as such, became my next 50. I ended up with Earth Mastery as my epic, and here's why.
Rock Armor, this, combined with Combat Jumping, steamy mist and set bonuses, one could easily softcap. As it is, I am just outside the softcap. Its awesome to see those Roman Generals take swipes at you and miss time after time.
Earths Embrace. The +heal +hp is too perfect, that power right there completes the sets as far as I am concerned
Fissure. a very short targetted AoE attack that disorentates, doubly useful if you have Thunder Clap
Siesmic Smash! A lot of folks will say that the only downside to the combo is the single target damage, this is one way to make up for it, great damage (omg especially once contained!) and its a mag 4 hold !
Ice Mastery would work wonders too. Frozen armor/Hibernate for survival and of course Ice Storm!. I went with Earth purely for theme, and again, (by pure coincidence) I was rewarded with wonderful Symmetry.
The character is blazingly fast, and has so much utility I can usually get a team out of anything they may of stumbled in too. I built it as a controller first, with team support, despite earths embrace, i also took 02 boost and spirit tree. they still very much have their uses. When I am solo, I can actually farm at a decent rate, but i much prefer to taskforce!
oh, and yes as others have stated, careful with tornado (roots is fantastic for this power), I don't think there is a single power in the game that can throw as many objects as far or as fast as this one can. Use with care, take your time, you'll figure it out, its also great damage! (and can be hilarious)
Looking forward to more of your writing! Keep up the good work! -
, and for me the lag never left, not JUST after issue 17 the patches there after nor before. Always lag in those special places we've always had.

Pfft Global Warming, I'll believe that when the Ice age they predicted 20 years ago hits us, THEN we can have the global warming!

Little bit of an update.
As stated, these drivers made my GTX260(core 216) scream. OMG im so pleased.
NOW...
I tried it on another machine with a much older 7900GS . OMG it works great! on the 7900GS at 1680x1050 I run simple shadows, slight ambient occlusion, maximum water detail and max environmental reflections, purrs along quite happily.
definetely good drivers.
Not sure if it is neccessary (never had an issue from nVidia.. EVER!!), but I uninstalled the old ones first. Also, I notice these drivers spinning up my fans a little quicker than before. I like that, keeping things cooler is always a plus! -
Tried it, don't like it. im running at 1680x1050 and its difficult read.
any others? -
Quote:I love being able to spot the difference with those. I've actually had people in game ask like 'omg how did you know?'I don't particularly mind Comic Sans. Just about any simple, readable font that allows for easy distinguishability between capital "i" and lowercase "L" would be better than the default font in the game. Whoever chose that font is due for a Penance Stare.
'easy, i don't use the default font'
I like Comic Sans but i'll give this new one a burl as well -
That might just make it to my windows startup!
-
I have a GTX260 core216 and omg these drivers are AWESOME. not only did they fix an issue I was having with the previous ones, my performance must of jumped about 10fps!
go nVidia -
Hmm thanks for the info. Gonna update my machine with the gtx260
I have a machine here with an 8800GT as well, I might try it to see if I get the same results as EB. -
So does this mean there wont be any influence or infamy? will it just be called one or the other. Perhaps they could just call it 'inf' like most of us do in either faction
Whenever I see them 'simplify' stuff like this it makes me glad, I don't want to see the engine just overloaded with everything going on. The whole 'Hero takes all his influence and puts it in a safe while red side to be redeemed once he is back in paragon city' thing, and vice versa, almost seems a little, bloated, i don't know, can't think of the word.
This change will make it simplier for us and simplier for the software as well -
all me desktops are on these drivers, no issues on any of em

Hey um.. Castle.. sorry to make things worse here but... now that the prompt is back... its bugged
whenever you receive a buff your character goes through the animation of sending one
rofl
-
Ooooh no, the horror, I've had my recharge/damage resistance/defense/recovery/damage buffed, and the effect didn't even show up all the time, the whole thing was over dramatic. I just didn't get it I guess.
I prefered it without the prompt, it was so easy for teams to buff themselves up, even mid combat, still even with a prompt, no hard feelings.
But as people point out, the devs can never please the customers, so we are how having extra code written into the game to 'Customize' said prompt. I don't know, to me, it just seems like a waist of code and labour.

must of been a thick accent, cause the guys on the continuous call team were even talking about it before the game
good stuff -
Melbourne Australia Apparently!
Superheroes break record in Melbourne May 29, 2010 - 3:24PM
AAP
Forget the 1956 Olympics or the opening of the Australian Parliament in 1901 - Saturday, May 29, 2010 is the day Melbourne entered the Guinness Book of Records.
The city's Federation Square saw 1245 people break the world record for the most number of people dressed in superhero costume, in one place at one time.
The CBD was no place for bad guys on Saturday with Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern and other comic book heroes portrayed hundreds of times over by people of all ages, genders, shapes and sizes.
The managing director of Warner Bros. Consumer Products in Australia, Preston Lewis, shouted triumphantly in his American accent: "We did it, we broke the record my brother.
"To see all those people, young and old, families, babies in Fed Square was great, they were so enthusiastic," he told AAP.
"Whenever you were born, people have a connection with those characters and grew up with them."
The world-record attempt was part of the 75th anniversary celebrations for DC Comics, which began publishing in 1935.
The new world record beats the old one by less than a week, after 1091 superheroes turned up at a rugby tournament at Twickenham Stadium in London last weekend.
The record before that was set last year in the US with 1017 people dressed as superheroes, but Mr Lewis says he is sure no one will try and break Saturday's record for a while.

Heard about this listening to me rugby broadcast the other day -
Weather and Dynamic lighting would be awesome.
As for the whole weather issue, there could be a simple flag for it, and people who have the equipment with the option enabled see which ever effect the server called for.
I could just imagine, stepping out of a skyrise in steel canyon, having stopped yet another circle plot from capturing the city, and instead of being greeted with fanfare or news reporters.. he's greeted with rain, making everything seem heavier than it already is. Time to check in with your contact, just another day for a workin super hero xD -
Cool, got a left over from justice I transferred over to protector, lvl 42, fire/fire/pyre. Looking forward to some good tanker teamage XD
-
I thought we were going for boob physics ?
-
Yeah i knew oblit wasn't the best as far as endurance goes. I just don't know how much defense is enough to make a difference on a non defense based set. Last time, on me fire/fire/fire scrapper i just went +rech +regen to get it to do crazy damage and healing, and it worked, so I myself have never done an all resist based set and boosted Defense.
-
I came up with this build, I like how it looks on paper, I just don't have a lot of experience with getting defense on non defense builds. Perhaps this would be a viable option?

MAYBE.. if you wanted, removed PP or Lightning Reflexes for Taunt, but thats a bit of AoE damage to manage the agro -
Hmm Fav AT? probably a tank, I have more lvl 50 tanks than anything else, it kinda reminds me of being on the rugby field. Taunt is just like carrying the ball, you'll have 5 guys commin at you determined to stop you, cant pass, what do you do ? charge em
while i've carried smaller opponents who have tried to stop me, I'd never stand up as well as my tanks do if I had the agro cap commin at me
