Wow 1Gb Broadband.... I think im 1Mb *suddenly feels very insecure*
xD
Nice responses guys!
Of course sometimes its the game or the servers that mess up. I do like to browse this part of the forums though cause i used to work IT and any unique information I might have that will help someone, im happy to share -
Ok so this is the tech forum, if you want to put it in general, go ahead, im not sure.
Most every day I come in here and see people having issues with CoH on this or that, new patch or new issue brings constant crashing and pain.
However, since I've started playing this, Issue 6, well.. i've never had an issue! I've done some pretty wonky things with this too. The only time i started raising an alarm bell i found out it was CoH overheating my CPU, and to find that, i had to play crysis on veteran for about an hour to mimic the problem! So CoH is still a bugger of a test for a system.
So since I have started playing I've never had an issue. The operating systems i've used have been Xp Vista (laptop) and win 7 U x64. I've always used nVidia GFX cards and oddly enough, nVidia chipset Motherboards. I've run CoH on multiple PC's, laptop, my Win mobile Dell axim via VNC and a NETBOOK (it was rough in praetoria though xD ).
The only 2 oddities have been my mobile devices. The netbook used intel atom N450 with intel GMA 3150 and the laptop, which has an ati GFX chip. However, neither of these had the power to turn on some of the flashy graphics settings to really test them out
So, has anyone else had such luck? I know I like to keep nicely clean PC's but I can't be the only one
Also, what hardware have you had luck with ? -
Hmm. I think I prefered your Original Incarnate video.

What have we done Steffan?
We've become Gods Marcus! Muhahaha
love the spider legs that come out of the shadows for just a brief second behind him.
One of me favs -
still no issues on either computer running nVidia graphics cards
260.99 drivers working perfectly on the GTX260(core 216) and the 8800GT(ssc)
this series of drivers I think i've noticed improvements in this game on the wifey's 8800 the most, much better game play. -
Installed 260.99 , did some ToTing and an ITF. Runs great, perhaps they've even squeezed even more performance out of my card to boot.
Running GTX216(core 216) windows 7U x64 -
Wow, didn't think there would be so much passion reguarding my wifes DM/Fire brute. Firstly, I know how I'd put one together, I can build anything into anything else, however, this is her character, with powers or combinations that I might not choose. That said, I have seen it perform, 3 +1 Lt Longbow and the thing is on the floor, this is with all the fire armors except temp prot (i think, its been a while) and tough/weave. I have mulled over it quite a few times but I never like the defense I get out of it while retaining its damage, and I know it can put out the damage! Muhahaha. At this stage I am considering just going like me 3F scrapper with +HP +regen +rech.
If the combination does well, then great, but please don't go to personal criticisms, I was sharing an experience, nothing more.
Actually, I have the i19 mids mod, I might have to revisit it. So yeah, carry on -
Oh and , which server do you plan to build on? always look out for tanker tuesday days. They run every month on champion/justice/freedom , then for the last 1 or 2 tuesdays its a random server!
-
I think both of them do well, you won't be dissapointed, especially when you start to set it out. Both sets are considered strong, and as people have said, you'll see passioned arguements on either side
.
Pre IO's I never would of recommended an inv tank. HOWEVER, with IO's , it could even be stronger. My old Inv/Axe tanker I created way back in like issue 6/7 now has a post i19 build planned where he is softcapped to all but psi with 1 foe in range of invincibility.
Now you could probably do the same thing with WP too, I just have more experience with the inv side of things
Happy Tanking -
While I can afford the game, I just don't like the idea of so much stuff being seperate from the game. At the moment, I have no means to pay for anything electronically either, so I have to wait. I had to 'upgrade' my bank account a few days ago so this will change.
But to me, its inconvenient.
People are going to be like 'Oh cool I want that' ... 'no you can't have that unless you pay extra! ' ... 'oh ok, what about this?' ... 'No you have to buy something' ....
Sure some people say 'well its better than having to wait until you're a 12/24/48 month veteran, but how about just keeping more stuff standard.
That said, I don't mind some of the boosters I've seen in the past. Through sheer chance I managed to get the cyborg(though repurchasing MA edition) magic/ninja/valkyrie packs.
I think its just my sentiment towards the last 2 or 3 that we've had, they've just been 'meh' to me.
I just hope this isn't the way to the future unless CoH become free to play and rely off micro transactions. -
I hope they dont release many more. People are going to see this stuff somewhere, and are going to think 'oh that looks cool, I might try it' then when they get the game and get in there, they're going to be dissapointed that they have to fork out even more, just to get something specific they saw.
I would like a couple of boosters but I have no way of paying electronically, so for me, its just more stuff to miss out on. -
My wife and I had the worst time with her brute, it never stood up to anything, Dark Melee/Fire armor. you'd think with the extra healing from dark it would stand up alright, but it never seemed to make a difference, especially with all the colourful damage you are facing redside. It went rogue and hasn't been touched since
-
If you don't mind a second copy of mids on your hard drive, there is an unoffical patch for mids in the general discussion area of the forum that makes fitness inherent. I've had a lot of fun with it
-
I stayed away from fire armor for years because people would tell me 'fire armor sucks' etc etc. About a year or so back, I made a fire/fire/fire scrapper, got it leveling, found I was having a ball! Got it to 50 and set it out. went with +Regen +Hp +Recharge, after all, a scrapper, I want moar damage quicker right
.
So then I got to thinking.. Hmm.. how bout the tanker equivalent
On another server I started leveling up a fire/fire (then later /fire!) tanker. It is currently lvl 47, got a couple of set bonuses (building like my scrapper actually), and it melts mobs like mad. Come Issue 19, I have tweaked its build to include, Burn, Combustion, Fire Sword Circle, Fireball , and if that still isn't enough AoE carnage, don't forget Blazing Aura and Consume, just for the heck of it
Happy Tanking. -
Hmm. can't say much as I really haven't run into that before. I will say though, this is my first monitor that is flat panel with dvi and hdmi, ie digital! 24inch 1680x1050 res.
Had it for about 2 years, then one day, nothing. I turn it off, on... nothing. I grab an old monitor, plug it in, there's my desktop. Still hopeful I plug my currently defunked flatpanel back in.
I leave the monitor off for over day, turn it back on, nothing. But i notice that if i listen realllllly closely, I can hear something from it. Turning it off doesn't actually turn the dam thing off, it goes into standby I assume. So parts are actually still powered.
I unplug for 20 minutes, Monitor is back and purring along just fine.
I suspect, that being digital, perhaps a decoder or whatever a monitor would use (not an expert on monitors), scrambled, hence i got no output. Some time later I was able to back up this claim as it happened again, only this time, if i used an analog cable plugged into the monitors old 15 pin VGA connector, it worked just fine.
Since then I have moved and It hasn't had a problem since. Only thing I could suggest maybe is power, perhaps a little dirty electricity in the line, caused the chip to drop. perhaps move a few things around, a line conditioner (always good to have with electronics anyway), or replacing a power strip, will help.
Anyway, thats my story -
Oh yes, also, finding the occasional newbie, perhaps one with the pocket D pass but no vet rewards and handing out a little starting cash is always fun
-
I learned a long time ago that I do not have the required luck to random roll, I don't random roll merits, I haven't random rolled my A-merits either. its so cheap to get some stuff with A-merits anyway.
-
Ahhh yes. I was crackin up watching a blaster teleport foe's to the wall he was standing on then power thrusting them beyond the standard %100 draw distance. We started to organise a game of hellion baseball at one stage. Hellions were the ball!
you needed replacements

My first 50, Radical Raptor, dinged 50 fighting nightstar, at that point in time I had fraps installed, so I actually have a vid of the battle

hehe, I was going for amusing with my post. I just never got a lot of time redside to experience it before. I was kinda joking about farming with it. It was mainly an experiment to see what can be accomplished.
I went over on the defense on my shielder simply because of debuff, and the fact that defense bonuses came so dam easily.
I went with Maneuvers as an easy way to get a small defense bonus applied to all positions. I already have several invul characters, but only 1 other granite.
I also like going with builds not often thought of, for example, a shield/elec tanker instead of a scrapper for a bit of farming. I know the tank wont be as efficent, but it will be stronger than the scrapper for managing agro, so now I like to see what I can do with combos that might be a little bit off the beaten track -
Just posted a thread about it here
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=241034
he is fun, but you'll be waiting till 47 if you want allll that defenseif you dont mind taking a hit, slot eariler with lower level IO's you'll still get the same set bonuses and you'll be able to run about just fine
-
Bare with me, just sharing a few thoughts into the process!
This all started just after Going Rogue was launched. I had seen the inherent flaws in Shield Defense as far as tanking goes. Even with 55% melee and ranged and 50% AoE as well as about 380% regen, my Shield/Elec tanker was getting into situations that would defeat it, even on the well played ITF's . The lack of natural resistance and a heal proved to be its undoing. I had used Aid Self on a number of characters in the past, but never found it that useful. About the best use I got out of it was on a blaster, quickly running back behind a wall, healing up then rejoining the fray.
But now we could start a lvl 1 villain Archtype in Praetoria and come out into Paragon City on the other side, I thought... What about a brute?
Now, to be sure, I always made very tight Tanker builds. I always wanted the best defense I could get out of them without sacrificing too much damage, hey I had to have some fun you know!
Immediatly I hopped onto mids (wonderful program TYVM for keeping it going!!!) .
I looked at Invulnerbility, Willpower, electric, A little look at shield, hoping for some way to add more healing without taking Aid self (yeah i've been a little turned off that power I guess).
I could never really find a build I liked, after all, this had to take the place of a Tanker. Using sets that I really dont like to use a lot of to get defense or recharge bonuses out of, leading to builds that fell just short of that softcap and didn't look appealing as far as how much damage I had to give up! Now having said that, my other brutes are only in their 20's . I see little action Redside, the wife and most friends ingame do prefer hero side, oh what a wonderful change GR has made, as I do like many redside archtypes. (still thinking about that heroic master mind).
After a while I thought, well... how about the toughest set of all, the immovable object.. Granite!
So once again I went through mids. I am on the side of thinking that Stone Armor, is fairly sub par until granite. Its not bad, decent defense and some regen, with a self heal. But that big rock monster is where its at.. so.. why not build to run almost entirely in Granite?
Now being in granite most prefer the only travel power that works in it.. Teleportation. Having gotten a stone/fire tanker to 45, I am familiar with how it works. Should I go fire again? lots and lots of AoE goodness! especially with the new epics available. This time, I went Electric (again right!) for the simple fact that lightning rod, offers its own mini teleport! Total score there!
The biggest Issue for me was run speed, without a kin 9.3 mph (even less with Rooted) can be somewhat annoying. I know in the past the thing to get rid of the -recharge was hasten.. but now we have set bonuses.
So i went to work. I picked all the powers to boost his defense, Tough/Weave, Maneuvers, then tackled the task of making granite, play more like a regular melee character!
And so it is done.
He is softcapped in granite, with enough set bonuses to negate the -speed and -recharge that come with that armor. Thanks to Fury, about 3 attacks overcomes the -damage.
It was a tight build though. But one that is so far lvl 42, and has a few set bonuses already. He's quite fun to play. thanks to the extra defense powers, running around in just Rooted and Rock Armor is quite survivable. If things look nasty, pop granite and slug it out. Team needs me to tank, no problem.
One pleasant surprise through all this has been damage output. Now I have been playing a long time but had little experience with brutes, I had no idea their damage cap was that high! Playing with a kin controller on an ITF I often saw my damage capped at 675% and often took that opportunity to Lightning Rod the nearest group of romans.
I knew there would be more damage but not that much more. All in all I am thrilled with my new *Brute* I even updated his build on the modified version of mids where fitness is inherent (I hope its really like this) , I picked up Assault just for lols and Hasten, the 3rd power I dont know yet, maybe vengence just for the sake of it
But looking at his post I19 build..... I think I came up with the worlds first farming Granite!
I had never done anything like this before, and tend not to go off other peoples builds or examples. Its one thing to achieve the desired bonuses you want, you can do that many ways, its another to match a playstyle. I think I did well.
Included is his regular Issue 18 build. I hope any part of it is useful

though could anyone help me with a CoP on justice? I still haven't been in a successful one, IM FALLING BEHIND! O.O -
Also, Acrobatics not only provides knockback protection, it also gives you mag 2 hold protection and some hold resistance. Which is very very helpful if you are a squishy with a few toggles on.

I had very little MMO experience. Had passed over World of Borecraft, was mainly playing stratergy and FPS (when you can combine the 2 you get something special). Anyway, a lot of time chatting with 2 certain friends online id ask '
'what you doin?'
... 'Playin City of Heroes'
'any good?'
... 'Yeah. Here'
*sends me the updater downloader*
...'when you get setup, use this trial code'
'Cool, will do'
Been playing ever since. What kept me playing though is the simple fact that this game is casual and fun. You can explore almost unlimited ideas. One moment im on my tank, bringing in all the enemies around me and slogging it out as my team mates lay into em, or the next im in the back, buffing, or pulling people out of harms way.
I have tried other MMO's and despite never picking up a comic book in my life (though i did read all the CoH ones!), I have stayed with City of for about 5 years so far!
