in chat the format is /cc_e # cccast <for the cast emote change the last part to match which emote you want to use>

    i.e ccspin /cclightning ect.

edit: sorry, it only does you any good if you have two or more available slots.

This thread is proof that we here on the CoX forums will argue about anything.

So anyway, what is the sound of one hand clapping?

That implies that at some point in the past, a chicken was hatched from the egg of a different animal, albeit likely related. But a housecat cannot spontaneously give birth to a tiger cub (naturally, that is!).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Alright I think that explaining the nuances of how speciation occurs over time (and why housecats dont become tigers) via evolution is beyond the scope of this thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Back to the original point. Someone upthread called it "Schroedinger's Zone" and that is a pretty good description. since we have to be in a zone to see if a zone exists then it is not possible to tell if a zone exists or doesn't exist if we're not in it.
That's one of the quantum physics quandaries.

BTW, before we get to this semi-inevitable point....

    There were eggs before chickens.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Probably.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Then what laid the eggs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Proto-chicken

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. Or, if you prefer, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, Insects... all orders of life much older than birds and all of which are known to lay eggs.
  5. BTW, before we get to this semi-inevitable point....

    There were eggs before chickens.

    Carry on people.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Okay I didn't read all 12 pages, so don't shoot me if this is a repeat!!

For the people that are saying that Necromancers are using the corpses of people's loved ones: What if YOU are the loved one and even after their death, your family/ancestors are trying to protect you from receiving the same fate?

Especially if, say, the family was brutally killed by one of the CoV enemy groups. If that was me and I had the ability to come back and A) get some kind of revenge and B) make sure that my only remaining family member didn't get killed as well... I would do it without thinking twice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Don't worry. No flames here.

I think that this is an interesting story idea. It would be a good explanation why someone who could raise/control the dead would be operating as a hero. I've heard a few others propose equally good ideas.
The basic point that this all started with is that the general public would have a very hard time ever accepting that person, whatever their motives might be, as a hero.
Many cultures do believe that their dead watch over them and can even act from beyond to protect their family/tribe. I don't think anyone would have a problem if those dead ancestors were ghosts or spirits. It's the actual corpses that create the problem. Irregardless of whether or not the corpses were willingly donated or were bodies of those who had done wrong in their life, people just have a really hard time accepting the idea of walking corpses.

Of course, this is just a game based on comic/fantasy reality. The citizens of Paragon are a pretty casual bunch. For all we know, they could be stocking up on perfume soaked filter masks.

Masterminds aside, how can you rationalize Stalkers as Heroes? I mean, they SNEAK up on their targets and ASSASSINATE them! How is THAT heroic?!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ok, another interesting point.
The primary ability of all stalkers is not Assassination. Yes, it's a large part of the stalker arsenal, but it's not their strongest ability. Their strongest ability is their stealth. <Don't believe me? stand behind an AV with a Stalker. You can be there all week before they notice you. No other stealth/invis in the game works quite as well>
Now we do have several literary/comic examples of heroes that make a habit of striking from the shadows. Batman is a prime example. His style is very stalker-ish. Hit from the shadows with a single decisive strike and then fade away to get his next target.
Remember that the Bat has often been as much feared as loved, as much criminal vigilante as Dark Knight. As a hero, the stalker would inhabit that same general area. The public might appreciate what they do but they'd probably be happier if they did it somewhere else. I don't think they'd ever be fully accepted however.

I'd like to go ahead and apologize for pretty much everything I've said today.

The remark Bill made about killing and life support really hit a sensitive spot in my heart and -really- threw me out of whack. I've been emotional, rude, and verbally abusive. I'm sorry. And I hope everyone can forgive me.

Hm. I'm thinking there may be a communications breakdown somewhere. The way I'm reading your posts, it seems like you're arguing that Necro Masterminds shouldn't be allowed to cross over when Going Rogue hits. Is this a mistake on my part?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm going to jump back in on this one. Since I think I had a small part in where this has all started.

I have no problem with Necro MM's crossing over. I'm kind of waiting to do it with my own. In fact I don't see any practical way that the Devs could prevent it without another MA-esque snit starting up.
My original post was just looking at things from a storytelling POV. The majority of the people in the world strongly oppose the concept of Necromancy. Therefore, it would be difficult for a Zombie MM to gain public approval. Through consistant acts of heroism the MM might gain the <grudging> respect of city officials and other Heroes but Jane and John Q Public are just never really going to accept rotting corpses.
Game wise, bring them on. The thought of Zombies lurching through Steel Canyon is an amusing mental image.
  10. Welcome back.

If you happen to play on Villainside, you should get a contact named Seer Marino about lv 15. Just about everyone in Cap should direct you to her. This will lead you to an arc called "O Wretched Man"
This is one of the best written Arcs in the game. It tells some of the backstory of Ghost Widow. It can be solo'd but it's good for small to medium teams as well. Very often I've gained 2-3 levels just on that arc (Depending on your style that may vary.)
  11. [ QUOTE ]

The one power I'm questioning (and I admit, I have not used this power; I'm going off the description) is Traps/Detonator.

I think they'll need to replace that one or something if a MM goes Hero; because I cannot see blowing up your pets (other than Bots/Zombies of course) for a hero. (The description says sentient creatures attempt to drop the bomb and run, but 'the fuse is short...' which is decidedly unheroic, letting your people blow up)

Maybe that line is just an aside though, and the pets don't blow themselves up - I'm not high enough to use it yet; it just doesn't sound good.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I could see Ninjas using it. And, yes, pet goes boom.
Since Ninjas are portrayed as having an honor code that has them doing whatever it takes to complete their assignment, self destruct isn't too far fetched. It's sort of a grandiose version of the cyanide tooth.
  12. Might be a good place to bring up a side Topic. Which MM's would be most acceptable to the public at large?

Top of my list would be Bots. The public could easily accept a small army of robots fighting crime. Machines have no inherant negative stigma and <in their own metallic way> are sort of cute.

Next would be Mercs. A quick rework of concept, some spiffy new uniforms, and next thing you know you have a rapid reaction force to augment the city's own.

A bit of a toss up on spots 3 and 4. I would give the edge to Ninjas simply because quite a bit of effort has gone into romanticizing Ninjas and turning them into heroes. Thugs would be a very close follower due to the "Robin Hood" effect.

Last would be Zombies. As mentioned above, it's very hard to convince the public that anyone who makes dead bodies get up and walk, for whatever reason, is a good guy. Not to mention the smell.

    JUst my opinion. Yours?
  13. Wait! Wait! I'm starting to like this idea now. Particularly with the added "no hospital/ no rez" option.

...Empaths might finally start getting some respect.
  14. Sorry, I just cannot agree with you here.

I don't think City NEEDS an endgame.
Having an endgame implies that the game can be "beaten." Defeat the final boss, play theme music, roll developer credits, trade it in for the next one. That, to me, is not the point of an RPG.
I guess I'm too much of an old pen and paper gamer. Those games never had an end. You and your group just continued following the story, creating new characters to replace those lost or that you grew tired of, changing DM's, occasionally switching games to keep things interesting, but the game never "ended."
Along the way you'd create war stories, in-jokes, arguements, things that you remembered because they were fun. You didn't worry about who got what achievement/accolade/ what-have-you, because it wasn't important.
It really is about playing the game, not beating it.

  17. Just a simple 2 mission arc for you

    #64142 "Leave it, Badger"
Uses standard NPC groups so it scales well across levels. Lowbie friendly, Play solo-or as a replacement for newspaper missions.

Sooo. A self proclaimed loner and recluse with access to dangerous motorized sharp things...

Am I the only one who sees where that usually leads to?
  19. So, lets see if we can sum up.....

We have multiple Statesmen , some good some evil.
We may or may not have several Lord Recluses who may or may not have been beaten to death with their own limbs and/ or may be heroic leaders of the resistance and/or might be on ice somewhere as a sleeper weapon.
We have one or more Nemeses who may or may not be plotting against themselves and everyone else in an ultimate bid to rule the known universes and/or may be trying to save the known universes from ultimate destruction at his own hands...which might not happen if he's planned correctly.

Have we forgotten anyone here? Like, what is DJ Zero doing?
  20. I know I've seen this done in other MA missions.
I think I remember seeing an option to change the color and font of text in your descriptions as part of the design interface.
Might be a right click option.

    Best At Duo Team

    [ QUOTE ]
I would say that, considering that there's one new player to consider here, a Scrapper/Defender (or Controller) or Brute/Corruptor duo would be a good way to go on this.

You, as the more experienced player, from what I can gather, would be the Defender/Corruptor. Use your buffs to make the Scrapper/Brute more survivable, and then join in with the blasting, and allow your son to go in first to get the aggro. With a decent defender behind him, your son shouldn't have anything to worry about, and can probably charge into the fray without too many worries.

Edit -. Also, I forgot to mention: welcome to the game and to the forums!

cuz guardian is the VIP server and he's prolly never been able to get in to try it out.

Just curious, what makes Guardian the VIP server? I've been there since my 1st charactor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just because we have a massive inferiority complex here. Guardian seems to be like the kid thats always the last picked for kickball. We have a good group of people but we're not the most vocal of servers.
I think of Guardian as the suburbs of CoX.
  23. I've had very good fortune with my sonic/dark corr. I get good attacks from the sonic side as well as a sleep and disorient. From dark you get the usual goodies of twilight grasp, tar patch, shadow fall and, at the top of the list, dark servant.
This might not be for everyone, but it's worked well for me.

  25. I try to make a habit out of playing at least one MA mission every time I'm on. Usually I treat it as a substitute for a newspaper/radio mission so a one or two mission arc fits in better. Maybe something like this is why it seems shorter arcs get more play?
Having said that, I do try to set aside one day where I go looking for the longer arcs. Usually this means I get a more involved plot and (usually) better stories. Because of the time it can take to go through a 4-5 mission arc, these are a bit like task forces. You have to be sure you have the time to commit to it.
