Sadly, I never could get into the PnP Champions. In general I like point based systems but there were just too many ways to min/max the Champions system. There has to be a fair balance between player creativity and ease of play. I never felt that PnP Champions really hit that balance. It was bulky and unwieldy and, the few times we tried to play it, we spent hours disputing rules interpretations.
Not to mention a GM that delighted in "interpreting" the rules in his favor most of the time.
Ah, well, thats all in the past now. Please resume whatever direction this thread was heading in. No more Maudlin past from the frog. -
Yeah Duck but its moments like that that just keep us all coming back for more.
If you can't find the sillyness, you're taking it all too seriously. -

Being and old school D&D player I can attest to the veracity of this list.
Sadly I think it might have understated things a bit. -
Quote:Do not go there my son. We're not obsessive about server identies (well maybe we are) but each seems to have a personality and we're all going to try and convince you that ours is the best. Was this a bad choice for server? Should we turn back? Re-roll before its too late?
Pinnacle, as they will be happy to tell you, is referred to as "the drunk server." Please don't ask why. You'll find out without asking.
Honestly, no server is better than any other. All have good communities, and more than a few people play on multiple servers. Feel free to wander about. Almost all will offer cookies (and occasionally kitties.) -
Shield Charge. That pretty much describes Shield Charge

Start faultline right at 15 if you can. I always manage to outlevel Penny which is a shame since you can miss out of a couple of nice goodies her arc gives.

Quote:That's right; and the Victor's AC outweighed the Marauder's by a good margin.
Pre-clan... I'd have hated that mix. In-direct fire LRM companies used to be my bane; working around and through Cents/Enforcers... wait. You didn't happen to run a company like that up in Chicago way back? I remember a championship wherein I fought a company with that kind of mix back in the day. Hardest fight I had, back then... and I think I lost to it both by points and TOE damage.
Nope never been in Chicago for more than two or three hours. Centurians and Enforcers were just solid mid range scrappers and I think just about everyone picked up on that. For spotters I'd use Ravens if I could get them or the good old reliable Locust.
The Victor had the AC 20. Biggest gun in the game pre-clan. The only other mechs that carried it regularly were Hunchbacks and (I think) Atlases.
I think I was wrong about the gun on the Marauder. I think it was an AC/5 that got upgraded to the LBX/10 once the 3050 rules hit. -
Quote:The original Marauder had two PPC's, two med lasers an AC/10 on the back. This was pre 3050 clan rules. Still more than enough to be intimidating. Quite a few players stripped out the PPC's in favor of large lasers for the savings in heat. That's the Marauder II. Marauder I's were 75 tons, two ppc's, two med lasers... and an autocannon. I *think* it was an auto-60; I don't remember atm exactly what it was. A 75-ton Marauder I with nine ppcs would either be paper thin on armor, or automatic heat shutdown after firing a salvo.
I *do* remember ripping out the autocannons, med lasers, PPCs, and running a modified Marauder with four or five large lasers (pre-clan invasion) and the heat sinks to handle the load. Vas hated. Hated very strongly. Moved to that modified 'Mech after my original Centurion bought it in a fight with the Light Horse (got too arrogant, too happy with a piloting 2, gunner 3 character who was basically playing peek-a-boo holding down a command lance).
Pre-clan rules I relied on Archers and Catapults. Again, I have something of a long range playstyle. Give me a couple of Centurions or Enforcers as watchdogs and things were good.
The Derail continues. -
And a welcome from Steelclaw <sniff> you're so blessed.

This thread is a very good example of why I completely gave up on playing console games. Actually, the early Atari 2600 games started me down that road, but Nintendo just cemented it.

You could settle for the Trucker badge next time the winter event comes around.

Quote:You can casual game to your heart's content here. There is no rush to get the the upper levels. Content is pretty well spread out across all level ranges and there are in game tools that let you play at your own pace and intensity level. Personally, I like the way the game plays at the most basic level but you can discover that for yourself.Well thank you all for the warm response!
I suppose I didn't really do that much research before joining, so I didn't know about this fast leveling craze type of thing? Anyway, I bought the combined box online so I think that means I have access to both heroes and villains?
We are very casual gamers, so it will likely take us a long time before we see half of it, and before we can start playing both sides of the coin. I'm glad to see a friendly community here, since EVE's can be very cutthroat. My girlfriend is quite new to gaming as well, so I am taking it at her pace. Glad to know that the community is willing and able to help.
Thanks again!
There's more than enough to do here, take your time. Enjoy the ride. -
Second in with the Hi there.
Thee are more heroes than Villains but don't let that minor detail stop you. Feel free to give in to your dark side. Since you have so many character slots available to you, you can experiment quite a bit. You'll find heroside characters are a bit more team orieinted while villains tend to be a bit more self sufficient.
PvE is a bit stronger here than PvP. PvP is available and pretty easy to find. Here it's set aside in specific zones and there are Arenas in most every zone for a bit of Duelling.
Playstile is a bit different from what you're used to. The "Trinity" is largely a non issue here. You DO NOT need any particular team build to succeed. Content is spead out across all levels so there's no need to get to "the endgame" to find all the "good stuff." Gear is far less important here. You can play just as well without the "best stuff evah."
Welcome aboard. There's plenty of things to do in the City. I'm sure you'll find something to match your style. Have fun. -
Ok I'll give credit to the Timberwolf but I liked my twin gauss, twin LRM 20 Mad Dog/Vulture. I liked being able to take people apart at very long range then being able to get moving before the return strike came.
Hm, sounds a bit like my city playstyle. -

Not too uncommon right after a new issue releases.
There's always something that only shows up when the issue goes live no matter how well tested it got in beta. It'll take a few short tweaks and patches to get it all straight again.
Hey, maybe they're fixing drop rates and some of the odd emote bugs. -
I want my custom Vulture from Mechwarrior.
That should be just the thing for those pesky Malta Titans. -
Quote:I've turned down every invitation to team from people I don't know over the last week when I'm on my 50s. Why? Not because I'm a "Level 50 snob" but because I've been testing out the new difficulty settings and the reduction in drops.
Well that's more like being in the middle of a research project Black. I'm sure Einstein didn't say "Sorry gang, let me drop special relativity at this crucial juncture and we'll go shoot pool."

Quote:I am confused by this. perhaps I need to re-read the section on the new super sidekicking. Does this mean that under the new version of sidekicking, people do not lose access to their powers?
If I'm rembering right, you can keep powers up to 5 levels above the level you exemp down to. This makes life very easy if theres only a small lv difference on the team. -
I have actually made something of a hobby out of new players.
Over on Protector server, I have a character that hangs out close to Ms. Liberty in Atlas Park, juggling.
Yup, juggling. I also send welcome messages to players without vet badges. More often than not, this results in nothing but, about 1 in 10 actually start talking back and start asking basic game questions. You know, "How do I get more missions, Where do I level up, Where's the train?" Those kind of things
A newbie asking questions? Brilliant!
I remember when I first got started. City was my first MMO and it was a bit intimidating. I blundered around for a bit until a few veteran players took pity on me and helped me iron out the wrinkles.
I figure it's my turn to return the favor. -
I'm bringing flies and ants and...
WHAT???
They're snacks for me. -

Twice now I've seen an odd thing I think is new. I think bodies are "twitching" while their lying on the ground after being defeated. I saw this in an arachnnos mission map and on the streets witha council that had just been beaten by 5th.
Anyone else?
