Quote:I know you meant this as a joke, but I think the PvP hell-reppers just need to come to grips with the idea that unless they front the money for a PvP booster pack to fund development, no more development is going to happen.Yup, I heard that as soon as they get all the base and PvP issues worked out it will be next on their to-do list.
I'm unsure of what you mean by base issues. I guess you mean further base improvements? Extra decorative items? Maybe more content that can only be accessed from within a base to encourage players to use a base? Since there aren't actually any listed bugs occuring with the bases, and since all base functions seem to be working, you'll need to make a better case for what you mean by base issues: http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/kno...wn_issues.html
Now, in reference to the original posters question, since there is a known code issue, it probably will be addressed when the coders can track down the problem. -
Short version.
No.
Long Version.
Hell No.
What part of Team Content just is not understood these days? -
Quote:Um..I can be annoyed that they chose such an arbitrary and pointless method for selecting people to be eligible for the Beta play
Bzzzt. WRONG.
The method wasn't pointless or arbitrary. The regular price of a Windows Client game these days hovers between $30 to $50. By basing Going Rogue beta access against a 3month time period, Paragon Studios garenteed that a select portion of the gaming base who might check out other games paid into this price range. That's not arbitrary, and that's far from pointless. -

just wondering, but why do you think that global enhancements are being developed anyways? Don't quote me that bloody survey either. Give me an actual design reason or something that the devs have said that indicate this is a development path worth taking.

I find myself in agreement with the original poster's points of view on the subject of Purple recipes.
My personal take on the matter is that the Hamidon Raid should have been converted to dropping a purple recipe instead of a Hamidon HO issues ago. Such would foster interest in actually performing Hamidon raids, getting players to think that hanging around for the entire event is worth it, and help bring purple IO recipes to the market.
However, this might be a bit of a moot point. We do know that the developers have some sort of plan in place for Going Rogue to make level 50 players more powerful. http://www.boomtown.net/en_uk/articl...w.php?id=18195
Quote:What this could mean is that Going Rogue will feature an event that will drop a guaranteed purple recipe... which would only be for level 50 players.and difficult tasks for level 50 characters to do that make them more powerful.
***
Now, as far as market caps go, I'm both in favor, and not in favor of them.
From one point of view, I don't like the developers stepping in and saying you can only sell this product for this particular cost.
However, the developers pretty much have already tied a specific cost to most of the other recipes. A Miracle Recovery proc is worth 240 merits. A Positron Task Force is worth... what? 66 merits? Well, an average Positron takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete. So a single Miracle Recovery proc is worth about 3.5~3.7 Positron Task Forces.
In this aspect, since price / time caps have pretty much been set, although in a oblique way, perhaps setting a hard price cap on the Auction House would be a tolerable change.
Now, I do see the formations of a backlash from the people who do nothing but log in and farm for influence. Players who store up billions in the level 53 IO's that don't exist, and those who do nothing but farming are not going to be happy with the idea or suggestion that their end-game play be taken away, and their untold wealth turned meaningless.
However, I, and most of the players I personally know, aren't happy with these farmers taking away the end-game from everybody else. As I see it, that's what the influence farmers are doing. They are taking the end-game away from other players and keeping it in a small clique... and I'm all for shattering clique's like that. I'm all for breaking up the players trading billions back and forth, who have reached that separated level of too much influence to count.
At some point, I think of it as a choice between being real, and being a game. For something like this... I actually think the it's a game solution is the better solution to take.
***
I tend to disagree on the PvP recipe point of view for a few reasons. First, the PvP player base in City of Heroes is extremely small. Second, the drop rate on PvP IO's is abysmal. I've hard drop rates bandied about ranging from 1 in 450 kills to 1 in 800 kills. With only a negligible percentage of the player base, probably less than 1% taking part in PvP content, there never was going to be a flood or reasonable amount of PvP IO's making their way to the marketplace, and certainly never enough to make the prices affordable for the casual player dropping 8 hours a week on the game. Simply increasing the drop rate isn't going to do anything to bring PvP IO prices in range of somebody who does not farm, real-money-transfer influence, or partake in PvP on a constant and consistant basis. The developers would need to generate more player interest in PvP combat, and as far as we can tell right now, there's no plans to do anything else with PvP. While it might be an overstatement, there's a possibility PvP development is at a standstill.
Now, putting PvP IO's into Merits might possibly encourage a few players to go try out a PvP match. I'm not sold on that. PvP combat is largely limited to arena style combat. There's really no Content to experience when participating in PvP. I think the root problems with PvP need to be addressed first before taking stop-gap measures such as PvP bonus IO's. Without additional funding, the chances that the developers will have the time or resources to look at PvP and figure out where to go next... are slim and none. -

Quote:*cough*Not only does the "risk factor" sound like a crazy conspiracy theory, but it's easy to completely avoid any and all risk:
1) Set permissions so only the leader can access bins; rank 1s can invite but not kick
2) Invite someone so they can invite your alt
3) Log onto alt and get invited
4) Wait for third party to exit SG, or just kick them (using leader alt)
5) Change permissions so that anyone can access bins
6) Access bins; profit
Zero risk involved. The only thing that could go wrong would be if your friend didn't invite your alt. They can't kick, nor could they access bins in the time they're in the SG.
Alternate option:
1) Email yourself a trial account code
2) Deal to your new trial account character
3) Deal it back to your alt; profit
Third option:
1) Deal to someone you know and trust
2) Have them deal it back; profit
Any and all players can trade with eachother. You can easily give a level 45 Healing SO to your friend with no strings attached. Because SGs are social and are designed for lots of people to use and gather, the bins make trading easier.
Any and all players can trade to a friend, and then have that friend trade it back to one of your other characters. SG bins can do this too, without the middleman if you want. This makes trading to one of your own characters easier.
Allowing us to trade directly to our own characters wouldn't allow us to do anything that isn't already possible. Including the fact that you could do it with no risk involved. The only difference is it would save time and effort, which makes it a QoL change.
I do believe I said this:
Quote:There is a slight difference. There is an inherent risk in using the SG racks in that anybody with a rank permission can access a rank locked storage container. You can partially minimize the risk by limiting the ranked permissions and the players in each rank. While the purpose can be used in a similar manner, to share items between avatars on the same account, since you absolutely need a second player to invite your avatars to the SG, and promote your avatars, there is a slight chance of risk.
Although yes, you can eliminate the risk by having two accounts. I think the devs are fine with the cost of another game purchase and the cost of at least one month of subscription offsetting the... ahem... exploit. -
Quote:yes / no / not really. So wait, you're saying the reason we can't have personal storage is because there's no risk vs reward?
I suspect that there was a risk / reward factor involved when the SG base storage was put together. I don't actually know that for certain. It just seems like the most logical reasoning that I can piece together based on how the system works and how the development team was behaving at the time of inception. -
Quote:Do keep in mind, you won't be comparing Fermi to the RadeonHD 5870 set of launch cards. Will have to keep my eye out and wait and see the price vs. performance.
If Nvidia is able to make the February time table, they'll be launching shortly before ATi's spring product refresh.
If Nvidia makes a March time table, they'll be launching into the tail end of the current RadeonHD 5x00 lineup.
If Nvidia makes an April or May launch, they'll be alongside the second generation of Evergreen series cards.
Given past ATi product refreshes, we can probably accurately predict pricing and performance of the refreshes, just looking at the changes from the Radeon 9700 series to the 9800 series, the x800 series to the x850, the x1800 to the x1900, and so on.
This, of course, depends on AMD deciding to stay on it's product refresh plans. If things go wrong for Nvidia, or the gaming performance of Fermi just isn't that good, AMD may be able to hold off on a product refresh, save itself some manufacturing cash, and keep pushing the current HD 5x00 series. -
I stopped using them when I had a SG base and salvage racks.
I started using them again when I ran out of space on the storage racks.

Quote:you are correct.This!
The devs work for a business and businesses have deadlines. You do the best you can to put a product out in the timeframe allowed. And correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the AE release date pushed back at least once already? For some reason I remember that the AE was suppsed to come out with I13 but they had to delay it. If my memory is faulty I apologise.
AE was held off to finish up the custom enemy options.
Hence the weird split in Issue 13 getting day jobs... before they were ready. AE being moved to I14. I15 being light on content in an attempt to make the 5th anniversary. I16 being mostly made of bug fixes. -

somebody already beat me to mydefrag... drat.
Okay, if you have any knowledge of what disk fragmentation means... raise your hand.
*looks around and sees no hands raised up* Oooh good, that was the result I hoped for.
First, check out this blog : http://geekblog.oneandoneis2.org/ind..._defragmenting
That gives a good overview of why file systems like EXT, ReiserFS, ... well. Okay, lets be honest here, any file system that was not made by Microsoft, does not really suffer from fragmentation. Though in all fairness, there are tools available to do an online defrag of some fragmentation resistant file systems: http://lwn.net/Articles/284529/
If you actually want to dig deeper and find out how a file system works, and explore why fragmentation happens, and how it can be prevented, you could go and get involved with the development of BTRFS: http://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Main_Page or EXT4 : http://ext4.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Main_Page
Now, the MyDefrag site does include a quick blurb about why their Defragger is better than the Windows Defragger : http://mydefrag.com/FAQGeneralInform...Defragger.html
What you need to know about the Windows defragger... is that it sucks. Okay, I realize that's not really helpful. Let me show you:
http://www.mepisguides.com/Windows/d...efragment.html
http://www.mepisguides.com/Windows/d...nt-Part-2.html
*kisses those on phone modem bai bai*
Okay, in all fairness, that was Windows 2000, not Xp, and the old version of JKDefrag, not the current MyDefrag version.
Thing is, the Windows Xp defragger is actually less efficient... and the NT6 defragger is even worse. Quite simply, Microsoft's defragging tool does not defragment a drive.
The reason for the lack of efficiency on Microsoft's part is actually due to drive speed. With today's affordable 1 Terabyte drives, SATA-3gb controllers, and drives with monstrous amounts of cache, fragmentation doesn't cause that big of a performance hit. In addition, Windows maintenance is longer taught. Best Buy doesn't make you sit down and take an hour long course over how to care for your Windows computer. So there's a flood of users who have never heard of defragging their drive, and because the raw speed of the drive hides any performance glitches, routine maintenance just becomes a non-issue. -

Quote:Question: how large is the playerbase?
Cannot agree with this. The Costume Codes are being given away in a fair manner
What are the chances of an individual player having a shot at a costume code? 1 in 100,000? 1 in 300,000? 1 in 500,000?
Realistically, you have almost as good a chance to get struck by lightning as you do getting one of the costume codes if you don't go to a con.
Quote:The people who spend a good deal of money to attend a Con
To everybody who can't attend the con, it's almost a punishment, a nah nah, look what I got and you couldn't get because I could afford a cross country trip and you couldn't.
Lets get realistic for a minute here. Precedent has already been set in game for the developers to make old exclusive stuff readily available to new users. The bad case in point is the City of Villains pre-order helmets, the 51 month vet reward. The good cases in point are the Good Vs. Evil Item pack and the Jetpack Mini-booster.
Now, I'm not against the people who are able to attend cons being able to have a lead time on costume parts. I do think that the devs and publisher need to look at solutions to make those costume parts available to players who simply can't go to cons, and have no desire to participate in lotteries they have no realistic chance of winning. -
Quote:I somewhat doubt this. Not will all of the bad blood between Intel and Nvidia.Robert Cringely thinks Intel is going to buy nVidia.
In addition, right now Nvidia pretty much offers Intel nothing of value. The Nvidia memory controllers aren't as fast or as efficient as Intel's. Tegra's long-term mobile value is still iffy. Due to the recent settlement with AMD, Intel has access to all of AMD's patents and Intellectual property, so it's not like Intel's hurting for graphics technology. Yeah, Larrabee didn't make the performance cut Intel was aiming for, but since Intel is already sitting in the number volume seller of GPU's with it's integrated set-up, they shouldn't be in a hurry to enter the discreet GPU market.
The only value Nvidia could bring Intel is a mass contract deal. Let's say that Nvidia has actually captured a contract for the next Nintendo Handheld, or has captured the contract for the next Apple Ipod / Iphone system. Unlikely, but that's the only thing that would make Nvidia an attractive acquisition target for Intel. There is also the aspect that if Nvidia had captured such a contract, they wouldn't be in a hurry to sell themselves off to the highest bidder. They'd remain independent. So even if Nvidia did have a contract on the way, it'd still would not help an acquisition. -

Quote:two posts... with a join date of September 2009.Well with everything going on i suppose its to be expected. I do have to say come lately i am really disappointed with the Dev's and they way they have been handling things. I do realize they have a difficult job and all but still disappointing.
I'm.. .sorry... I know it's considered impolite and a bit jerkish to bring up post counts and join dates on matters, but your post just reads like a flame-bait. If this type of post came from somebody with the Vet badges or join dates to have been around since the days of StatesJack, it'd be one thing. However, the mistakes made by the development team now don't even compare to the mistakes made by the StatesJack led development team. I know it's an example horse that been battered into the ground... but... case in point: ED: great idea to encourage players to use the enhancement system as originally envisioned. Bad idea to launch it after the game was already out with 4 previous expansions.
I'm left puzzling the point of your post. On initial evidence, I'm left with my jaw open since you can't have possibly been around for true public relations bungles or problems with the game. The way the current PosiMiller lead team has been handling issues is leaps and bounds ahead of the old StatesJack crew, and heads and shoulders above anything SOE, Microsoft, or Blizzard manages these days. -
Quote:My thoughts as well. Yes, just about any build can softcap... the question is whether or not they should softcap. I've only ever actually taken one non-defensive set (Fire Aura) to softcap, but I've sketched out on paper soft-capping a couple of my controllers, a blaster, and a corrupter... and I couldn't help but feel that in each case I was making slotting and power choices that pretty much defeated the avatar's main job.I'm not seeing the use. I mean, getting to the softcap is mostly pointless if it involves leaving individual powers poorly slotted ; and if you want to do that anyway, you can just filter by IO set bonuses in Mids and randomly slot everything that boosts defense until you hit the softcap.
Granted, I might be biaised because I'm afraid six months for now we'd see tons of terrible builds on the forums.
I also suspect that for Going Rogue we'll see an engine adjustment to account for the number of soft-capped builds floating around. One of the devs commented on the abundance of plus defensive IO set bonus's, and from the wording choice, I think we've probably seen the last of any new IO sets with + defense. I suspect the developers solution(s) will be to increase the defense debuff resistance cap, and boost the native resist defense debuff powers . I expect this will be coupled against another adjustment to NPC to-hit / accuracy ratings, with the idea that Tanks, Stalkers, Scrappers, and Brutes with defense debuff resistance are unaffected by the changes, but that archtypes without defense debuff resistance will be put into cascading defense failure quicker, and thus will be less reliant on soft-capping a particular defense.
Now, I don't have any proof that this is in the developers list of things to do for Going Rogue. I just somewhat... doubt... that the holy grail of soft-capping is going to go un-addressed at all for play balance. -
I as well like the idea of the costume codes being put up on the store.
So put me down on the list of people that wouldn't mind buying that which I haven't a prayer or winning in a contest... or getting unless there's an East Coast Hero Con, and a Mid-US HeroCon for those not on the East / West Costs, and an Australian Hero-Con, and a Europeon Hero-Con, and a... *insert country that plays CoH here*
