  1. I admit, for the past, maybe, 3 of the 5 years I have played this game, most teaming was done with global friends. I would occasionally get into a PUG (sometimes blind invite even), but that was a rare thing.

I learned over this (horrible) double XP weekend that I don't think I know how to get on teams any longer. I put up my LFT flag, and tried this on several servers (even Freedom), and I get nothing at all. I announce over broadcast LFT - and still nothing. I have in my LFT flag - something like no farm and no PL teams. (This can't be it, can it?!)

For those of you looking for a PUG, and don't want to lead or form it yourself - what do you do to get on a team?

  4. I'd like to see:
    - small vehicles (ala cycles, jetpacks, power pogo-sticks) which are just 'skins' for various existing travel powers 9ie: super speed, flight).

    - weather - and a revamp of the sky graphics (Check out DDO for some very cool skies and weather) Paragon City is so drab.

    - not necessarily new powers, but new power animations, emit points, and even methods (ala fire blaster that uses devices instead of generating the fire via their body - or, heck, energy melee that uses an energy staff instead of fists)

    - more and better mission arcs. Try to make most missions part of a story arc, and have the arcs be of varying lengths

    - more unique maps

    - more enemy groups

    - destructible items - that can also be used indirectly, like making a drum of flammable liquid explode near foes or pulling a street light out of the ground and using it to smack someone

    - Allow knockback to do extra damage if the receiver gets knocked back into something really hard, or falls off of a building, etc.

    - eliminate the predictability of generic missions. Don't place the mobs in the sam places all of the time. Be able to take a portion of one map and attach it to another map (of the same type) to provide more variability. Provide more variability in mob composition. Hitting the occasional all-boss mob can be fun. (I have seen this recently, but not sure if it was a systematic change or not.)

    - have more missions that can be failed - and add more of a bonus of some sort when they succeed, or take away when they fail. ie: if you fail a mission, you lose prestige!

Mobs in this game need a serious AI overhaul.

Positional Perception needs to go. There are times when you can literally be beating up a mob's buddy right behind him and it will not react.

Patrols need to be more aggressive. Or rather just BE AGGRESSIVE. Often they will walk right by you unless you're directly in the line of their pathing, even if you're fighting.

Amubushes not only call out there approach, but don't search for their target once they reach the spot that target was at when the ambush was triggered.

Runners! God, nothing says "I'm not really trying to win this fight" than the Runaway Code.

The mob AI in this game has bothered me for awhile. I just don't understand how anyone in charge could witness the AI coding in action and give it a pass.

This, IS NOT challenging ---> yawn

    [/ QUOTE ]
Writing good AI code is probably the most difficult thing to do for gaming. Your statement that it is not challenging is just revealing your ignorance. You don't have a clue about how to design such a thing, do you?

As a software developer, I'd LOVE to have a crack at gaming AI. I think that would be a very fun challenge.

Positron, I am a little concerned about the possible rate griefing involved with being able to rate an arc that hasn't been played. Especially when there are badges involved in rating unrated arcs or ones that don't have many ratings. A lot of people will probably get their badges simply by going down the line of unrated arcs, slapping a 1 star rating on them, and getting their badge in the process. I've seen rating systems on web-published content experience things like that, and that's WITHOUT the enticing badge. Please reconsider allowing someone to rate an unfinished arc.

*EDIT* Been here since CoH beta, and this is the first time I've posted after a redname.

I'm willing to listen to ideas on how truly horrible content can get rated without having to endure all of it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dangit - tried to PM Posi - but he is over quota (!?).

Anyway - here is a suggestion:

    Posi,

Here is an idea for exiting out of and rating truly horrible content in the MA (but note I did not really think this through fully, but wanted to air it to you):

Allow for a rating of "incomplete" (which does not have the value anywhere from 1-5 - or whatever you use), which is handled perhaps partially independently from regular ratings.

When it comes time to report on the rating of a mission, all of the incompletes are excluded from calculating a final rating, but they are tallied to count how many times a user exited out due to perceived crappitude.

If an MA mission is terminated before completion/failure, they can be given the choice of:
"Hey - I had to leave but plan to finish this at some point". Such a choice would yield no rating at all.
"Hey - I can tell this is a piece of steaming poo from the first mob." Such a choice would receive the "incomplete" rating.
Both choices would not count towards rating badges.

When someone wants to see if the mission is good or not, they could judge these two separately, maybe present the incomplete tally as a percentage of the number of all ratings.

These incomplete ratings would not affect the total (Hall of Fame), but can still perhaps give a clue about truly horrible content.

I'll keep thinking on this a bit. This was off the top of my head . . .

  8. Yeah - I am at 1680x1050.

Putting world detail back to 100% (from 200) made a big difference!

    Thanks.
  9. I checked the recommendations here, and tweaked my settings a bit. I have a pretty good (not top) system, but I can get fps as low as below 30 in, say, south Steele Canyon. (It can also go into the 50s, depending on what is in view).

I have an 8800GT (OC), 2GB RAM, dual core 2.6GH processor. Checking Task Manager, basically no CPU wasted on other programs and about 1/4 GB of RAM used for system crap. I hear of other people with similar systems (or worse) with settings set to what is suggested here, and they claim much higher FPS.

Is this surprising? Is any guru reading this, and saying to themselves, "Oh - that can't be right" ?? Just wondering if there might be something obvious or significant I am missing.

Sorry if this is straying from the OP topic - I wasn't sure if it fit or not.

  10. Whoa - talk about a split-personality thread. It started out pretty petty and mean (something I'd have expected from other games' lesser forums) - and that lasted for MANY pages - then the past couple of pages were sane and thoughtful.

I see the pissy posts were early in the morning (mostly). Maybe there was just a case of global crankiness and a good night's sleep made it all better?

My faith in CoX forums has been restored!

Sorry - I have no way of providing a screen cap -

    As of I7:
My bald (no hair) character now looks like he has a cap on the back of his head that is just a smidgeon above the scalp and it does not seem to react to lighting the same as the rest of the head (based on character swiveling tests). This makes it very obvious that there is something wrong when part of the head is in shadow and another part on the same side is lighted.

    Help is appreciated.

Sure you do But it takes some effort on your part. I'll lay out the steps so that if you wish, in the future, you can post screenshots.

<ul type="square"> Screenshots and You[*]Enter CoX like normal and Open your options window. Go to Keybinds and scroll down near the bottom till you see the section that has screenshots listed. Make sure your printscreen button is assigned to the JPG option. If you do not want the UI to show up you can assign a toggle UI button that will turn it on and off for screenshots every time you hit the button you assign to turn the UI on and off.[*]Now that you have your keybind assigned, go to the area/thing you want to capture a picture of and hit Print Screen. [*]Exit the game and browse to your City of Heros directory (using windows explorer or whatever). Inside this directory will be another directory called Screenshots. The screenshot you took is sitting in here waiting for you to show it to the world. [*]Now go to this website and upload your image. Http://www.imageshack.us/ [*]Once the image is loaded you'll see all sorts of code in little windows for you to use. You can ingore all of that except the very bottom one called something like direct link to image. Just cut and paste that into a post here and you've just shared a screenshot that you made! [/list]
It is easier then it sounds

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well - sweet! I was always wondering how so many folks had easy access to hosted images. I have taken a bunch of screen shots, just didn't know how to share - (I was a stubborn student in kindergarten).

    Thanks!

    Boss Changes

    [ QUOTE ]
I don't feel the new bosses are equal to a +1 boss now. I have characters who used to be able to take on a +2 boss as easily or more easily than a +0 boss now, maybe more, and my risk of one-shotting wasnt as high on the old +2.

    [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ]
    They are just +1.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This may have been your intention, but there is no way this is the real result! For my main blaster's alpha strike, I could see a big chunk of a +1 boss's HP go down (maybe to 1/2?) but with I3, an even boss gets maybe 1/8 HP lost from my alpha strike. Is there another explanation or detail that could explain this?
