Well, yeah, less for the system to do. You can bump up from there (resolution first, then details, using the *advanced* settings, mind) to get a reasonable balance of pretty vs. playability.

To the 'stopping /t and email is a bad idea' crowd...

Make it plain and simple that these will not be allowed for a trial account. Pay up and you get it. Just like you'll get both sides, SG base, etc.

And if gagora, etc. are stupid enough to pay to do it... well, that's more money for NCNC and they'll get baninnated anyway.

See, the thing is, it's a 'trial'. In most trials I've been involved with... this means exclusion from certain things as you've not paid for the full version.

30 days before it stops... (XP, Vista)

1 level (Doom, Castle Wolfenstien)

No saving files (editors of various types)

Advanced stuff turned off (many many things)

So, this is just one of the things that you can't do in a trial. You can't email. You can't /t anyone. You can broadcast in zone and you can local talk.

See? No big deal. If the /T and the Email is such a big thing it's a game breaker, and the game can't be sold to the potential buyer on it's extensive other available-during-trial merits...

Man... you too picky then.

Oh, and regarding broadcasting... that would require someone to play through the level of breakout... or skip that and go straight to Atlas Park...

Oh, and another thing that could be done for the trial... limit access to AP, Hollows, Perez, Galaxy if you're less than a level 6. And you top out at level 9. That would force someone to actually PLAY to get anywhere else, and spam their crap.

Again... it's a trial. Trials aren't meant to be full games. You can get over that, no offense to anyone.

And finally, just in case someone doesn't understand the program... We play in a system that is NOT a democracy... but a (mostly) benevolent dictatorship. Just as we are posting in one. The owners of the property can dang well do what they please, whether we want them to or not. It's their call, and their considered opinion. Ergo, these ideas may come down the pipe exactly as I've said it should... or not. It's not my call, is it? Just an idea man here, in this case...

That has got to be the best suggestion I've seen about this. Knowing code like I do, yeah, that should be very easy to implement, and be expeident.

The only thing I can see is an issue with /t not being available to the n00bs, they might not be able to join a team or something like that, or respond to friends...

Spam tell detection might be fairly easy to do. Simply count the /t from any user... add a /t per minute factor... If the thing sends 10 /ts a second (I don't know if I can do it) and each one is more than, oh, 20 characters (arbitrary), then that is a bot or a *really* fast person... so you stop accepting /ts from them for a few seconds, with a warning, of course.

Something like "Whoa, whoa, whoa... slow down, Tex."

And it's all from gagora, so why not put a search on that? If you see it more than 20 times by one person in 10 consecutive /ts or emails, ban stick.

Just my thoughts on it. I don't get the /ts but I do get the emails.... and really, it's not a huge bother... yet.

For $100 you can end your aggravations... pretty cheap therapy. No MB, CPU, RAM needed. Perhaps a PSU upgrade, but on that system another $50 or something like that shouldn't be a big deal either, I'd think... and any ATI card of similar caliber would require the same. A wash, at best, on that matter.

I would not even come close to saying any card is perfect. Far from it. They're made by humans, after all. Suffice it to say I have more experience in fixing ATI related computer issues on customer machines to base my opinons on than merely an opinion that 'ATI sucks.' Truly, if it were just an opinion based on fanaticism... I'd just stay out of the discussion.

If you are saying ATI is keeping AGP in the future... um... no.

I know you ATI guys and gals are having issues, and I shouldn't contribute to cluttering up this topic with my opinions and facts as I have them. It should be about helping you people enjoy the game, regardless of what you use, ATI, NVidia, or whatever else. Just for an interestng note, dunno if anyone has spoken of this:

Lvl16, Ebon Kitty, Claws/SR scrapper, Champion, skiing, unassisted.

First run: 27.5 seconds Silver
Second run: 24 seconds Gold
Third run: 42 seconds, Bronze.

Again, unassisted... unless you count Power Dash, Focused Fighting, Focused Senses, and Super Jump (which I used twice in the run, one at the left turn, and the other between the second to last and last gates) to be assisted...

It's really frustrating to me too, as competition is always welcome, but in all the years of fighting computer problems, one of the two stalwart standouts I had was ATI related weirdness, solved by ridding the computer from ATI and putting in NVidia, usually. (The other being tons and tons of Norton/McAfee issues... and for years that was solved by switching to the other. Back and forth, every dang year. It was stupid. Tech support? Pfft. Internet? Pfft. (back then..) )

Bill's a saint for trying to keep the ATI flame alive here, but I dunno if it's ATI or Co*, but it's not the only combo I've seen weird on.

/not that NVidia is free from weird... but it's less so.

Y'all should start separate threads when ya got issues, btw... harder to know who's talking about what in here.

Doesn't specify Laptop, for example... unless yer talkin' about someone else Dysmal... But I conceed it *could* be.

Go to ATI and get the drivers from there.

Then follow Bill's Guide below to properly install them.

Then follow this ATI guide to tweak it.
