  1. My update happened in a few minutes. I'm not bragging (even though it sounds like it) just pointing it out. It was at 9am-ish today though, so I don't know if that's part of it... Probably a lot of people having to deal with the download, causing slowness... or a bad ISP hop somewhere in your chain of servers, that's been known to happen...
  2. There will be an "approximation" of lines and columns. Basically, the monitor itself has to 'guess' where the pixels go. The resolutions aren't 2:1 or other friendly ratio in relation to each other. It's more like 1.34:1 or some such. Which means, if it *logically* lands in between two *physical* lines or columns, it'll double the pixel's width or height. Or sometimes it'll take them out. It makes characters look really funny... double wide 'l's and slightly taller bottoms of 't's and such like that.

In game, you probably won't notice. It's where single pixels (like an 'l') are being displayed you might see it. This is the one flaw, if you can call it that, of a fixed resolution display device: Not flexible. CRTs had it over flat panels in spades in this regard.

You can step it down, and depending on how much you're growing the resolution from what you gamed on before, you might not notice the frames lost in the new information being drawn. There's only one way to find out, of course.
  3. It sounds to me like the mobo isn't working at all now. As if the previous use with a lesser power supply has taxed it, and it gave up.

What really needs to happen now, if I had it, is this:

    1) Disconnect all power *and* cablings from anything except what is needed to the motherboard from the power supply. 1a) If the card needs power, plug it in, but if you had a non-powered card, I'd be using that instead for the test. 1b) Yes, drive cables, extra cards, etc. You are in test mode, this is how it's done. 1c) Onboard video would be a good thing here, so use it if you got it, taking out the more powerful video card.

    2) Disconnect all front panel connections except the power switch, power LED, and the speaker, if equipped. NOTHING else, esp. the reset button.

    3) Externally, these connections only: keyboard, power, video. Nothing else, take them all off. USB printer cable, network cable, etc, all gone. BARE minimum connections.

    4) Ensure the power supply's main switch itself is on. Can't tell ya how many times I forgot that.

    5) Try to power the machine on. If it doesn't start... the mobo is the issue, with a 2% chance it's the power button itself. You might try to use the reset button in the power button's place and see if that works, but I just use a small screwdriver to short the leads on the mobo itself in this case.

    6) But if it starts, turn it off. Add *one* thing at a time. Perhaps the HDD LED next... then the reset button... then maybe the CD/DVD drive... Video card, if it wasn't being used yet, would be my first shot, actually.

    7) The *very* last thing to plug in is the hard drive. Do not use it at all until it's the last thing. All other connections, internal and external, should be done before this one.

Hopefully, along the way, you'll have found the problem. This is the basic troubleshooting that needs to happen now. Good luck!
  4. I am not exhibiting any lag/slowness issues. I'm only reporting this for flavoring, but thought it important. I have Core2Duo 6400(IIRC) 4G ram, Vista Ultimate 32bit, Gigabyte mobo with Intel chipset (appropos for C2D use) and an NVidia 9600GT. I dunno if that helps or not.

However, I am seeing a weird message of "You must complete your current mission" whenever I go in the MA Arc I'm playing... even though I have no other missions. It goes right on it though. Odd.
  5. *runs off to herd some drones while they last*
  6. I had so many issues with Microsoft Wireless Mice, I've banned their use. I won't install them at my work. I won't use them myself. If a somebody has one, and their issue is something is wrong with the mouse, I don't even try to fix it, I just say "You need to throw that one away and get a Logitech if you're going wireless."

    Microsoft wireless is junk.

There. I've said it. Any and all fanbois/fangurls: Whatever, I have my standards. 75%+ suck rating means no good.

/Others on the banned list: Anything Sony (support issues), MSI motherboards, ATI video cards, and Creative CDRoms.
//Not taken lightly, btw. Not 'one shot' wonders. Repeated suckitude.
  7. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=9243

Pretty much sums up what's going on with the drivers and laptops.

The laptop drivers are, by and large, *specific* to the laptop. I.E. NVidia themselves will not support the chips directly, you must go to the manufacturer (HP, in this case) and hope they have a driver that works for you.

However, that same site, laptopvideo2go.com, is where modded drivers can be had... but dang if I can figure out how to narrow it down, download, and use them.

One of the reasons I'm not a real laptop fan... this highly specialized driver stuff for video, audio, etc. And it's all due to the power thing, btw. Trying to eke out every single amp hour of energy from the batteries...

I dunno if that helps, but you pretty much see why nobody answered yet. It's difficult to deal with these laptop chips sometimes.
  8. Try putting a copy of the CoHUpdater on the desktop, and running that instead. That will allow you to run plenty of them, and when it does go, it will not be running the one that needs patching.

For the drinking, I suggest Long Island Iced Teas. They're sneaky bastidges.
  9. First off, IMO, widescreen = yes. Very yes.

After that... The higher in resolution you go, the more dots, the better everything will look. But all those dots will cost you in terms of performance if your machine isn't up to the task. You don't *need* to run more than 1440x900...

I currently run in 1680x1050x32, windowed, and I have no issues, love the wideness (shove stuff to the sides) and it has no issues rendering it. On my current C2D, 4G of ram, 9600GT system. My previous P4HT, 2G, 6800GS would not have had a fun time at all with this size screen, and I wouldn't have made the switch because of it.

The main problems are refresh rate, color rendering, resolution, size, and price.

So I picked out a list of 19-22 inch wide screen monitors with low refresh rates (8ms or less), and nothing less than 16.7 million colors... *I* can tell the 16.2M monitors, and they suck. For me, anyway. Here ya go:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...alue=3106:21400

Oh, and I sorted to lowest price first, so that'll help.

Now, if you look down about halfway, you'll see some Hanns-G 22" monitors. They're very similar, not very pricey, and plenty of people like them. The second one is a higher contrast ratio (which is a measure of black vs white, the higher the more contrast between the two... and that's a subjective measurement... some don't like the higher contrast, some do.)

You get other options which you can find... you can also modify the power search to include bigger monitors, but I dunno why. You can also usually go with the reviews as to whether it's a good thing or not. More eggs the better, and more reviews the better.

For the record, this is mine:
    http://www.kdsusa.com/K2237mdwb.asp

And I love it. It was a pretty decent buy when I got it, it still looks great, gives me no issues, smooth, good colors. No speakers, but I don't need them.

Hope that helps ya in some way...
  10. Indeed, it is a shame that Bill's missin' out on cake. More for me, though, so there's that.

Happy another successful* round trip about the sun, dude, wherevers ya are!

/ * - Depending on your definition of 'successful' of course.
  11. Without actually knowing what's in the system, just guessing by the age alone... yeah, it may be time to get a new one. The times, they have a changed re: 6 years of Co*...
  12. No, he'd know about cars, and planes, and drywall, and electrics, and textiles, and farming...

    And so would I.

And since everyone would know everything, nobody would want.

It's a concept, sure, but it would certainly be interesting.
  13. Good investigative werks, bofyas. And I gotta tell ya... crow is delicious with a honey glaze.
  14. And while Memphis said it... that's what the:

    "(Read this, below)"

was for... and I apologize. I meant:

    "('Read This!', below)"

Which is supposed to mean my lil link at the bottom of my post. I'll do better next time, honest. My sincere bad, y'all.

/not real sure what the other links do... so don't be clickin' them.
  15. Yes, of course there are the occasional issues with the servers... believe you me, there are *plenty* of threads when that happens. When it's just one or two here and there... it's usually a 'broken chain of internet hops' issue, or the computer/networking /router/modem of the particular house.

Texas, in the case of your supposition of Ghost Falcon, I'll just say this: Posts or it didn't happen. As in... "Suuurrreee they check in here..." Make me a liar, GF, or any Dev, for that matter.

/heck no, I ain't gonna go looking at the "who's looking" thingy... that'd be too logical and isn't the point anyway.
  16. Which really sucks because, except for the very, very, *very* occasional hit, I'm unmezzable with Homeslicer, Claws/WP Scrapper. And even if it's a hit, it doesn't stop me... it just turns certain things off.

Which only makes Homeslicer madder, he retoggles it, and then proceeds to open a bigger can o' whoop [censored] on 'em.

/I'll have you know that [censored] word is a donkey. Sometimes you gotta whoop them stubborn things...
  17. *necroposting, but only because somehow... I missed this!*

    *waves heartily back at Father*
Dang! Been a while since I listened to that song... my bad.

/awesome you knew what I's talkin' about though!
  18. All I know is that by doing a search for my name, I see that I'm actually a little bit famous over there, and my single reference:

    http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/showfl...rue#Post1209255

+1 w00ty goodness for my awesome deduction powers showing up over there!

/only post that has mah name in it or attributed to it.
//If'n I lose mah name, there will be rolling of heads. Y'alls been warned.
  19. What Zloth said, and I'll add: There's another thread discussing using PingPlotter Freeware and the server's addresses. Do a search for PingPlotter, you'll find it. Use that to ping the servers and you'll probably find that your upsettitude is not to be directed at NCSoft, but at some quirky lil ISP's backbone server you're being forced to jump through. Perhaps trying a different, west (or east, depending) server would alleviate the issue... at which time you'll verify it's the route to the server, not the server itself, that's the cause.

As far as this goes:[ QUOTE ]
I'd send a report if they didn't have such a poor track record of getting back to me. I think they are 1 and 5 so far.

Texas_Justice: This is a place to discuss technical issues with the game, no? You know more than just players view and reply to topics on these forums. Witty remark rejected.

PP: I have 2 sticks of RAM, each with 2 gigs. It's not me, It's the Infinity Server.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, their track record is... not great. I'll freely admit that, and verify it. But, and I've pointed this out very much in other threads...

THE DEVS NEVER POST HERE. Not in this section of the boards. Ever.

I doubt they even read this. I've 20x6(*) challenged them to no avail... they do not even pause here, I imagine.

And as such... no, in fact, this is no more than *just* players (and community managers, these rednames do not count) viewing and replying to topics on these forums. Witty remark is confirmed, so far as I can tell.

Of course, if an actual Dev decides to show up in this thread... I like crow well done. Want to be sure thems are cooked real good.

/haven't had to sample it so far in years here.
//Kinda wonder if it it like so many things: tastes like chicken.
//(*) - If you know the reference, holla.
  20. You didn't post (sp?) or [sp?]...

  21. Wow. That's a concept...

Maybe if everyone did everyone elses things, we'd all know how everyone else does everything, and then we'd all have perfection in our lives... and the game would surpass every other game out there, all debt would be erased, we'd all make the same amount of money, everyone would need for nothing, and everyone would be at peace, and we'd be free from scrutiny, suspicion, and able to travel the world without a care.

Man. I like that concept a lot.
  22. First, the model number of the thing is probably going to help.

Second, you probably need to post up a CoH Helper... or in this case, I might be inclined more to a DirectX Diag (DXDiag) log, so we can see what you got in the system.

Thirdly, it may not show anything, but a Hijack This log is always a good idea nonetheless.

You might ask why, here it is: We can't see what's in your system, and these are the tools that let us peek in there to hopefully see what's going on. There's a "before you post" sticky (Read this, below) that can help you with the logs.

Pending those things, I'm gonna guess one of two things is going on:

    1) The wireless headsets are one of two sound systems, the other being the onboard one that your computer had previously, and Co* sometimes gets confused about which to use. Maybe disable the other that you don't want using. A "Single Mindedness" idea, if you will, is always a good idea when it comes to Co*.

    2) There's some sort of software being run to use those wireless things, or something else, that's interfering with Co*. Hence the logs.

Standing by, hope that helps a little in the meantime!
  23. Kind chopping things here...

And yeah, I'm all for UDP if it solves some rubberbanding issues. As long as the game works, I'm good.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Silly houtex, the point is that UDP SOLVES rubberbanding and disconnects because its more flexible than TCP.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    o.0

I'm confused... did we just sorta agree?
  24. In regards to the question being for the Devs, they *never* post in here. Ever. I have never seen even one Dev answer to these posts.

And yeah, I'm all for UDP if it solves some rubberbanding issues. As long as the game works, I'm good.

/Yep, another calling out from houtex, Devs. C'mon Castle, Babs, Posi, whoever... do it!
    //I *Triple* Dog Dare ya!

    PvP farming

Well, ok, continuing with that, then if you went all "completely literal" on it, and added it at the end like you suggest...

"I'm sorry to inform you, but "god" doesn't own this game or the rights to it, or exist."

Then mine, in as much as the commas can work both ways, is as valid as yours.

    Or, to shorten them both:

"I'm sorry to inform you or exist."

"Then mine is as valid as yours."

/Fun with weird grammatical structure and punctuation... I think... I'm not sure it's fun anymore now.
//And.... do we have compete derailment?
///I think I'll abstain now. Itssa tech forum, and even though this is a technicality... it's prolly not what we need to do here.
