  1. Mine's installed in C:\Games\CoH, so there's that. I never install a game into the Program Files anyway. I's just sayin', default is probably ok... But I don't do default, so I'm screwin' up the works for recommending anything. Meh.
  2. OMG, NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo........!

It's been installed on my windows drive since '05... so...

Oh, the updater. No, it's ok, I'm not tellin' him to install it there on the desktop, I'm tellin' him to download the *updater* to it, or a folder in it.

Correct, DO NOT install it to the desktop. Let it install wherever it might, it'll probably work better that way. Typically C:\Program Files\City of Heroes. Although you could change it, that'd be totally up to you.
  3. How very odd. This wouldn't be you, would it?

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/...thread.id=1051

Was searching google for your model number and came across that. If it's not... then there's two of you out there.

The oddity is this. Going to HP I get NO information regarding this:

    System Model: D5468AT-ABA ALONPAV

Putting in just the 5468 in the HP search does produce something... but they're all laptops.

So the system model isn't good enough. We're probably going to need the model number from the outside of the box, I can't look up anything else.

You say it's a new video card, but depending on the card and your power supply, there may be an issue. Newer video cards tend to need more power, but if your power supply is stock... and not rated for enough watts... you're possibly running into that.

There also seems to be an issue here and there with your montior though. Google searches on the monitor's model number and the word 'sleep' brings up a few 'me too!'s.
  4. Try not using steam, and instead download the updater from here:

    ftp://client.coh.com/US/

    specifically, this one:

    ftp://client.coh.com/US/CohUpdater.exe

Download it to your DESKTOP, or a folder made for it on the desktop (important to NOT run it from the City of Heroes install location) and run it from there.

Hopefully, that should fix you up, because Steam is not needed to run Co*... as far as I can tell... as I don't run it.

Don't blame Lenovo, per se, Sony is exactly the same. As is Dell. And Gateway. Hp, Compaq, Toshiba, Acer...

In other words, if it's a *laptop*, they're all doing that.

Reason is they ubertweak the drivers for power balancing and a few other reasons in their particular system. Each one 'makes it their own'. Even in a mini system that is similarly built to a laptop, you may find this.

Basically, the rule is this: If you are even *thinking* about any 3D gaming on a laptop... buy it with a dedicated graphics solution, and do use the 'over 6' rule... i.e. the ones with a 6 in them or better (9600, 260, 4800) are going to be the ones to go with over the less than 6 (4300, 9100)

I know it's after the fact, but there it is.

Again, post from Castle or it didn't happen. Be like if a tree fell in the woods, but nobody was around to see it or hear it... so did it really happen, or were we just being told it did?

  12. Good thinking! I was going with the 'logical' possibles, not the physical ones.
  13. Don't suppose you've gone into the power and display settings in the control panel and turned off the sleep, hibernate, and screen saver... Surely you have, I'm sorry, I'm silly for even asking, I know.

There's nothing, really, in that log that indicates what the issue is, beyond the fact that it's an HP, and therefore there *may* be another software running in the background or a bios setting that could be doing it. HP is some weird re: power stuff.

Post up a Hijack this, and maybe we can figure it out with that.

  20. MalwareBytes is awesome. I have spoken.

Another vote for AVG, but some have run into issues. I run it no problems everywhere I install it, so...
  21. In agreement with the driver suggestion. However, if that doesn't work, and since it started at 20-30 minutes and now has downgraded to 5 minutes, I'm going with one of these:

Heat (check heatsinks for dirt and clean, make sure all fans work.)
    Memory bad (memtest86+)

Past that it's possible the power supply and/or motherboard itself is the issue, but testing that in a Dell XPS 600 might be... interesting.

Oh, look, I totally missed you just got that card. Now my money is on an underrated power supply given the new wattage needs. Minimum 500 watts in my book. I don't know what that Dell power supply is rated at, but I bet it's less than that. Only one way to find out, crack open the case and have a look. It should be listed on the side of the power supply. You may need to pull it to check it out.

One note of caution... most Dells have special power supplies. It's a wiring thing. Trying to put in another, non-Dell power supply, unless it's a specifically made for Dell one, will *kill* the motherboard. You've been warned. Should that be your route, of course.
