  2. Yes. Yes it was. But then something happened. They got older. And so they decided that they didn't/couldn't do the Hooters thing anymore, but still wanted to be flight attendants. That, and guys for some reason decided it'd be a cool thing to do too. And so now we got business type suits or polos. Yay progress.

  7. No, it's a graphics card that has issues dealing with the game and the cursor overlaying it. Texas is right.

You could try adding " -compatiblecursors 1' to the end of the updater's shortcut, like shown here.

Flight attendants give instructions? Hmmm. Guess I'll have to pay a bit more attention next time I fly.

Of course, it would be easier for me to pay attention to them if they went back to hiring Stewardesses like they did in the good old days.

Then again, I probably wouldn't be paying any attention to what they were saying due to paying attention to the effects breathing has on the female figure.

  10. Texas, that's like that FBI warning on VHS tapes and DVDs, and the instructions flight attendants give before a flight: Nobody reads/listens to them.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a firewall issue, with a nod to a possible ISP blockage situation. Probably will wind up having to also do the Net Info Tool, but I'll await the other logs first.

/Oh, and btw, I don't copy that FBI part, so I'm safe, and please read the safety information card. Federal regulations state that all passengers should be in their seats with their seatbelts on and their tray tables upright and locked. To fasten the seatbelts, insert the tab into the buckle, and then tighten the belt by pulling on the loose strap. To release the belt, lift the buckle. There are 6 exits on the forum, two at the front, one over each wing, and two in the back. Please take the time to find the exit nearest you, taking into account that it may be behind you. In the unlikely event we lose cabin pressure, oxygen masks will drop down in front of you. If this happens, please take a mask and put it over your mouth and nose, extending the tube, and pull the straps at the sides to tighten. Put one on first before helping those who may need additional assistance. In the also unlikely event that we have to make a water landing you will find life preservers underneath your seat. If they are required, take the preserver out of the bag, unfold it, put it over your head, and put your arms through the straps. Tighten the straps and then pull the red handle to inflate. In the case it does not inflate, you may use the tube to inflate the preserver. Your seat cushion has also been designed to be a flotation device. For those passengers seated at the wing emergency exits, please read the safety card for instructions on how to operate the exit. If you do not wish to perform these actions, or you are unable to, please alert a forum moderator who will be happy to exchange your seat with someone who can perform these actions. Please turn off all cell phones at this time, we will be posting soon. Thank you for posting with boards.cityofheroes.com, and we hope you have a pleasant read.
  11. Oops. I woulda swore I read 'Comcast' in there. Oh well.

For the record, I have Comcast, and you can pry my cable modem from my cold dead hands. But I'd rather you didn't. 'Cause then I'd be dead. I'm not done yet... I think...
  12. houtex

    CoH Locking up

And you would be having bad experiences, because every time I upgrade my computers, I have an entirely awesome experience and no issues.

But then, I don't just grab off the shelf stuff, I have standards I stick to. Those standards are:

    Intel CPU
    Intel chipset
    Gigabyte motherboard
    Kingston memory
NVidia single card graphics solution of x6xx / x6x or higher.
CoolerMaster or Thermaltake 500+ watt power supplies.

The reason people are suprised at older machines is that the game has been in development for 5 years and as such as passed the older machines up... machines that may have been uber back then, but wouldn't garner $100 new today in any store. And are clogged up with years of scaly buildup called background processes to boot, with not enough memory added to compensate for it all. That's why.
  13. Sad, actually, them Comcast people. They pretty much can control where the traffic goes, and can alert the downstream people their server is borked. You just have to be adamant and get smarter than them... and also go up a tier. It's not tier one support that can do that, it has to go 2 or 3 before it'll get taken care of.

You won't be able to contact the other ISP they'll just blow you off. Only your ISP can fix downstream problems because they have the weight to do it.

There is (was?) an old thread about a guy in Alaska that had to do it... and he did. It was a similar (IIRC, exactly the same) issue to yours and ONLY the PingPlotter graphs showed the ISPs the problem and made them fix it. Took him about a month of arguing, but it did happen. He also had Cryptic (at the time) helping him prove his case. So they can do it. Question is... how married are you to Comcast, because it may be easier to move to somebody else, depending on how stubborn they are, and how stick-to-it you are to counter.
  14. Hm. 350 is a little light even for a 9400. And moreso if the power supply is a couple years old... Might wanna bump it up if possible.
  15. Well, like I say, the model number being given doesn't apparently correspond to any model HP's ever built, so finding out what the factory put in there is difficult.

Best way to check is to take the power supply out and look at it's lables, or perhaps come up with another identifying mark/number/name that can be found on HP's website.

I don't see anything obvious in the hijack this... maybe I missed it though...
  16. And if those don't fix it, then you need to do a hard drive scan, 'cause I suspect it could be that, and it won't hurt to do it... well, it might, but it's a low chance.

Start, Run, Chkdsk C: /r, Ok, Yes, Restart, and then go get coffee or something for an hour or so.

Repeat for your other drives if needed, although it's debateable whether D: or such might need a restart.

In your case, it's the C: drive, so that might be all that's needed.
  17. Oh, now, just sayin' you already had one. Not bein' fussy, no need to apologize, it's all good, just tryin' to keep continuity in threads. It's always best, dontcha know.
  18. Not to be a rat, but Gargamel posted a new thread regarding the same question.

I asked he come back to this one, and will now answer (best I can) the question "Anyone else having the issue, is there a fix?":

It's also been reported in these threads as well, doing a search for the word 'scroll' in this section for the past year:

There does seem to be a direct correlation to the issue and Microsoft Wireless Mice.

I will reiterate, briefly, what I said in another thread: Microsoft Wireless Mice are junk. Get a Logitech one or go wired Microsoft.

I don't know if this helps, but it at least answered your question: Yes, others have seen this. Yes, there is a fix: Get another mouse.

Well, allright, someone said to, in effect, kill Intellipoint, in one of the threads. You could try that maybe. The results were... interesting.

    ---

I don't mean to sound overbearing, but this *exact* issue has plagued Windows and Microsoft Wireless Mice. It's a very odd problem. I wasted so many hours trying to fix it, before I said "you know what? This mouse isn't worth this time." and fixed the issue with a Logitech.

Windows XP, Vista, and now 7 all seem to have the same issue... and it's *their* mouse!! Don't try to fix it, send them a message by returning the mice and getting either wired ones or the competition that works.

Again, not trying to sound overbearing... this issue was one that really ticked me off and I'm amazed it's still around.

Anyway, truly, good luck to you all with this problem, I hope you guys/gals figure it out one way or another...
  19. Yes. You have already posted this in the thread below, please use that one to continue the discussion in the future:

See my reply in that one, please. Thanks.
  20. *Frankfurt*?!? Germany?! Wow...

Wait a second... dug about, the server is somewhere in Massachusetts, apparently, according to my pingplotter trace... I think. Tried to verify the IP using a couple of online geo IP locators, and it seems to confirm what the PingPlotter is showing me.

So... you're going from Mesa, AZ to Salem, MA (?) to Chicago, IL, if what you've told us is right. More about Chitown in a second, for those who are confused at this time...

    http://www.pingplotter.com/freeware.html

You really need to download this and perform an unlimited, one second ping test on these things. I'd be very interested in the pictures of the graphs, if you could. It'll likely show the problem sticking out like a rightward pointing sore thumb.

    ---

Re: me coming in and correcting...

At your prompting, I've been looking at your two IPs, Texas, as well as the lot in the Network Information Tool. Interestingly enough, there is no more East/West coast servers... all servers point to Chicago. Guess they've been moved. I pinged these servers, named accordingly, from the Network Information Tool's results (recently derived.) I've embellished the names a little for clarity, hoping that I guessed right..

216.107.254.194 - One of the updater servers US
216.107.240.3 - West Coast Server Farm
216.107.248.3 - East Coast Server Farm
    216.107.249.131 - Login for US
    206.127.153.135 - boards.coh.com (guessin' these here forums...)
    206.127.153.137 - www.coh.com, Website

These all wind up in France, btw, I checked them to be sure.:
    206.127.144.229 - Login for EU
206.127.144.132 - European Server Farm... which actually answers it's ping, if you can believe that...

There's a slew of others. Anyway, the Ping Plotter is faster than tracert, and has a cool graph on the side, which allows one to visually see a spikey server. Like those EU servers above, which triple the ping times, and the graph gets shoved to the right.

Hope that helps in some way.
  21. Wow. Haven't had the privilege myself. I've seen a couple of D: and even E:... but nothin' higher than F:... Guess I've not traveled far enough.
  22. And there it is... The driver for the GMA 950 (i.e., 945G/GL chipset) is old, and you should get a newer one.

It's a laptop, which means no upgrading from that video, likely...

According to Dell, your latest driver is going to be from 5/2007... and I suspect you probably already have that. You *may* be able to get the Intel one to work, but probably not. You *may* be able to find a hacked one, but I don't recommend that.

    http://support.dell.com/support/download...n&TabIndex=

However, I recommend downloading it anyway, acquiring Driver Sweeper from Guru3d, deinstalling the current video drivers, restarting in safe mode, running Driver Sweeper for Intel, Nvidia, ATI, etc video cards (doesn't hurt to be sure all video card drivers are gone, baby, gone), then rebooting in regular mode, allowing it to do whatever it's going to do regarding the 'new' hardware, then installing the newly download video drivers.

    Whew. That's a mouthful...
  23. I don't see anything in your hijack this log, except for the interesting fact you (or whomever built the computer) installed Windows with perhaps a 4 slot card reader already installed, making your system drive H:, but that shouldn't have affected anything regarding Co*.

However, in your first post, you posted this info:[ QUOTE ]
    Update:
Ok, I used the /netgraph 1 to see my ping, etc etc.

On the three servers I can play on...
    Protector: Ping of 120
    Victory: Ping of 120-145
    Champion: Ping of 124-145

The servers I play on often...
    Guardian: Ping of 745
    Pinnacle: Ping of 394-450
    Virtue: Ping of 1302

[/ QUOTE ](slighty formatted a little bit... sue me. No wait, don't I'm not made of money.)

Very telling. Is this still the case, or has the situation changed regarding these servers?

I'd also go get PingPlotter Freeware. There's another thread about it somewhere and it also has the servers' IP addresses. You may find that, for whatever reason, your route is going through one set of servers to get to Champion, and then another set for Pinnacle, and in the middle somewhere is a spiked server. You can then inform your ISP of the situation, and they may get it resolved for ya.

Dunno if that's it, but there really isn't much reason for any of the servers to act any differently if your computer is otherwise the same.

Other than load on the server itself, or the path to them is messed up, I don't know why in the world this would happen, and especially not locally caused. Unless it's Norton, which is DRBBBOT, or maybe your router or modem on the outside of chances.
  24. Wait, hang on, I got all tripped up by the 'how to avoid the DVD' thing...

Catch, does it do this to *all* CDs/DVDs? Or just this one?

If it does it to just this one... then the DVD is bad. If it does it to all, it's the drive... or a configuration issue with Windows.

Which reminds me... it's a DVD, not a CD... unless it's really old, in which case, I'd just do the download thing, because there's *nothing* you're going to save by installing that crusty nastiness.

A DVD version *may* solve a few MBs of download needs, but only if it's the AE version as mentioned above, otherwise, you're stuck with basically starting over even if you installed it. So why bother with the install, I say.

In any case, once you did get it installed, if you have a burner or a 4GB memory stick, making a copy of the installed Co* would help out somewhat for next time... as long as you kept updating/burning again major issue releases.
