1) What Bill said.
2) What Bill said... mostly, as there are a very few cable modem/router combo boxes out there. Like the DSL ones. While it's not very likely in the case of cable, you should be *absolultely sure* what you have. Adding more routers behind routers can cause packets to get too large and broken up. Although, to be honest, I've never seen one in the wild... yet.
3) It is a spyware cleaner. It's just not an active one unless you buy it, so you'll have to manually run it from time to time. Or buy it and have it running like an antivirus . Your friend hasn't tried MalwareBytes AntiMalware yet, I'm guessing. So yes, AVG or Antivir + AntiMalware should cover it... mostly. Nothing is absolute regarding these things, no product out there is. Just being sure you understand that. Kinda like saying you take all these vitamins and antibiotics and you can never be sick... doesn't work that way.
4) Ditto, uninstall stuff first, then install new. Best to do it that way. -
re: MSConfig:
Start
Run
MSConfig
Ok/Run (whatever the button is)
Services tab.
CHECK the box for hiding Microsoft things.
Check OFF boxes for the various things to turn off.
Startup tab
Repeat checking OFF boxes for various things here.
Reboot
Retest.
Repeat/uncheck until you find the culprit(s)
Although it sounds like the dual video was the solve for ya, if I read that right, so you don't *have* to do any more if you're happy. -

They're all Mid US servers now, as they're all in Chicago. Do the tracerts, you'll see. Unless they send us all to Chicago and then directly over to east/west coast sides, but I kinda doubt that.
-
Before I answer, you should tell us if that helped or not. I'm guessing not. Can't see with the hijack this whether you killed the Intel chip or not.
However, on that hijack this... Still too much McAfee, and these need to be turned off using MSConfig for the test...

Haven't been able to replicate any of the issues reported here:
Tried 'Drink Formula' and 'Super Serum' costume change emote, both functioned as expected and played the entire animation from start to finish.
Also tried using an emote (/em dance) while in 'combat' mode, and it correctly interrupted the combat stance and played the emote.
That's with our latest code branch for Issue 15 though...it's possible something is off in one of the incremental builds.

No, Healix is saying two payments through PayPal, which then bills the credit card. The payments were one each on two different accounts, so technically, there's only been one charge to each account.
The problem either comes by with multiple attempts to use a credit card, or multiple charges to a single game account. Either one sets of the "whoa, partner!" flag and you'll have to wait a day.
[/ QUOTE ]
Firstly, read Healix's post again. That is NOT what it says.
Secondly, different accounts is irrelevant. It has to do with using the same card at NCSoft's online store. It doesn't matter how many accounts are involved.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry, that's exactly what it says. Lemme break it down:
[ QUOTE ]
I used my credit card on account #1, then used the same card on account #2 through my Paypal account.
[/ QUOTE ]
To read the structure:
Used credit card on Acct1
*comma* (indicates change of idea/thought/etc.)
Used same credit card on Acct2 through PayPal.
So, two different accounts, using two different methods of payment. The first directly with the credit card, the second directly via PayPal.
Of course, I'm not a mind reader, so structure and grammar are quite important when posting things. It's easily determined how I could be mistaken if the structure is flawed. No offense to you, Healix. If it were worded, for example, like this:
"I used my credit card via PayPal on two accounts, no issues."
or
"I did two transactions, one on one account, one on another, using the same credit card via PayPal."
Then that would be exactly as you wish it to be... and may have been exactly what happened.
Healix, any commentary? Not calling you out, btw, just wanting to be sure what's going on, thanks! -
Just some info... given my limited searching through the intarwebs, the 5500 and the 6200 are about on a par in performance, with maybe a nod towards slightly better visuals to the 6200, but it's a rather even swap, it would appear.
Now, there is something interesting going on... There's the 6200... and there's the Intel chip. That is going to be somewhat slower... are you absolutely sure you got the right card working with Co*? Are you trying to dual monitor things? Perhaps turning off the second monitor is the answer, Co* can be a little bit of a pill regarding dual monitor setups, SLI... I can't imagine it likes having two completely different manufacturers to deal with on video...
I'd also hazard a guess that the drivers, even though they're both NVidia, aren't happy. I'd get Driver Sweeper from Guru3d, and the latest drivers for both the NVidia. I'd deinstall the Intel completely, and turn it off in the BIOS. I'd deinstall the NVidia card, then reboot to safe mode. I'd run the Driver Sweeper to kill *all* video drivers. I'd then reboot to normal ops, let it figure out whatever it's going to figure out, then install the new NVidia drivers.
I'd also be taking out McAfee and putting in AVG or AntiVir or something else... ANYTHING else but McAfee, because it's DPVJ, except Norton, because it's DRBBBOT
I'd also pick a tool bar, and not have more than one, if I had any at all. You got Google, AIM, McAfee (which I've already discussed) and Ask. Redundancy isn't good here, make a choice, I would, but in honestly, they'll not be Co* affecting... I just don't like waiting for all them things.
And finally, I'd be turning all these off using MSConfig for testing or deinstalling/deleting outright:

But that'd be me.
I'm also guessing at some point you had/have some Symantec product... Live Update is still in there... wasn't Norton was it? If you're not using anything Symantec, best to make sure the Live Update is also deinstalled.
Then repost a hijack this log after you do some of that if you still have issues. Good luck! -
No, Healix is saying two payments through PayPal, which then bills the credit card. The payments were one each on two different accounts, so technically, there's only been one charge to each account.
The problem either comes by with multiple attempts to use a credit card, or multiple charges to a single game account. Either one sets of the "whoa, partner!" flag and you'll have to wait a day.
Talk to customer service, though, actually phone them up, and you can get it figured out if you just can't wait. I understand, really... Certain Ebay items for my car or motorcycle I pull the trigger really really fast, 'cause I want it NAO! -
To put it another way, because I feel like it:
Various politicians are *candidates*. That does not make them elected officials such as councilperson, senator, judge, president... it makes them a possible for those jobs. There still has to be a vote, and only then, if they are voted in, do they become the official.
So it is with Win7 RC and Win7 Gold, which hasn't dropped yet. -
Circulate it anyway. What's the worse that can happen? It doesn't work, and so your is a special case. Best case, it does work, and you da hero.
Don't be afraid. The natives don't bite... much.
/unless the worse that could happen is that the system wipes everything in all connected drives and computers, including all those on the internet... that would be a little bit of a bad scenario... Which reminds me, time to double check backups... -
Y'all quit guessing and maybe those logs will show up and perhaps we can actually solve the problem instead of throwing things at it a la Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
/Mark was way lame during that part. It just looked so... bad. -
Pretty much the same reason to *NOT* buy a first year run of any car... there are always bugs the manufacturer has to work out, and by the second year, mostly, that's done.
It's also the reason I don't bother with the new software like Win7 until there's been a Service Pack 1 issued. Until then, it's not finished.
(Dating myself, yay.) I remember when a version of DOS came out, and everyone rushed to get it. Back then, we were lemmings. Heh. Immediately, people started losing data afterwards. It was horrible. And then they figured out that the whole SpeedDisk setting to not write to the hard drive until the computer was idle or the buffer was full, while lightning fast for 'closing' things, didn't really work all that well on the 286s and such of the world.
An immediate workaround was issued (change it to cache reads, not writes) and the next version this was the norm instead for SpeedDisk.
So when you say you're screwed... yes, in fact, if you use any operating system nowadays before service packs are issues, you are likely to have something go wrong, not be supported, not work right, etc. Especially for Co* use, that's so low on the totem pole as to be non-existent in the Microsoft world.
But it sure is pretty isn't it?
/Guessing. Don't have it installed myself. Not really in any hurry to use it. -
Although it's a relatively safe bet, one should never say
-
What Texas said.
And I'll add, it's likely the video driver. But as you say, there's no specs, so we really would be shooting a shotgun at a pea... and we're as likley to hit it with that approach.
So get the logs and we'll see what we can do. COH Helper and Hijack This. -
I'd just throw it out there anyway. You've already provided your escape clause, so post it.
Worst thing is it doesn't work for them. But you did try, and that's what counts!
/"Keep moving forward."
