re: Claws/WP Brute...
Wow. I mean.. wow. That is awesome. Pure win right there.
Rolled Homeslicerette as a sister to Homeslicer on Champion (where I think all my characters might wind up as Scrappers/Brutes now...), but as a Brute. With Fury... They can get maybe 1 or 2 hits, get her down to 1/2 a bar of health, but they're down by then... and that's just at level 4-5. When Fury is built up... she's bad, man, bad. You know it. Sch'mon.
'Course, she's already got the Fitness pool, unlike Homeslicer who had to make the run at 16-20. She hardly gets outta breath and just runs and runs and runs around defeating all in her path.
This is gonna be FUN. -
$.50 a day... and I can spend the *entire* day on Co* if I so choose, barring disconnects and breaks.
These days, though, if I only get on once or twice a week now, I'm happy. Still money well spent, as I still enjoy it immensely, 6.5 years later, when I get the chances to.
So I get the most out of it as I can, when I can, and that's the best answer I got. -
I miss Hawaii. I've been lucky enough to get there and back 3 times. Each time it was just fantastic, and new again.
What I wouldn't give to have one or two Spam Musubi from, of all places, the 7-11 in Kona, and then take them to South Point and watch the south/east waves merge into a triangle of awesome blueness with white crests on top while I ate them. Or maybe take them to Waipio Valley overlook. Yeah, that's it.
Or maybe just have lunch in Hana.
Or maybe go see the Iao Needle.
Or maybe drive around the West Maui Mountains from the West Coast of Maui. On a Harley or something
Anyway, saw this thread, and hadda say "Aloha!" from a mainlander who loves that place, and one day will return to run up to the Observatories on Mauna Kea. And spend the night there watching the stars from a tent. Yeah. That'd be awesome.
So... Aloha! -
Quote:You have obviously not heard of LOLCats, or have been avoiding them ferverently, or... forgot?First: ... why in the world did you use a title that would make the Freakshow proud?
Quote:The low-end processing requirements for City of Heroes fits in right around the rendering power both AMD and Intel are offering in that market segment.
And it refused to run on my old (now dead and gone) laptop after they updated it and took out lower end computers' ability to run it. The 'new' one I have barely runs it at all, and the game complains about it at that, saying it needs updates (which i can't get... it's only really used to test wireless anyway, so I don't care much... I just like to see if the thing survives a Co* session. Heh.)
I think you're thinking of, oh, Dig Dug maybe. That's low processing power. But I don't think NCSoft has the rights to that. -
Claws/WP Scrapper. By far the fastest solo, IMO. Claws regen quickly, strike fast, and don't take a lot of power compared to others. WP offers a LOT of protection, and also helps with the Endurance at 20. Add the leadership trio, and the stamina run, and that bad boy/girl will be a leveling machine.
When I did Homeslicer, he was just about unstoppable, hitting +2 bosses like they were minions by level 12 or something, and by 20 or 22 he never ran out of end, and just about couldn't be hit with all the debuffs he had going on. +0 Mobs of 8+ mixed minions/LTs were nothing to him, +1s were fun, and +2s were doable. Even if they had a Boss he was gonna make it just fine.
I loved that build. From 1 to 50, exactly how I wanted him to be, and he was glorious.
---
I did do a Brute from 1-50 solo as well. Big Thing was... big. And stupid.
He is a SS/Invuln Brute. He took longer to get there, and he was a little less than perfect in the defense/debuff categories, and he'd huff and puff at the lower levels, running out of Endurance, but... man he was fun. The best thing was to keep him moving so his Fury kept up. An SS Brute with almost full Fury is a thing to behold, and even funner to wield, even if he is slower to ding.
/I admit... I'm kinda intrigued with the Brute Claws/WP... if Homeslicer was that awesome (to me)... a Brute version should be... Stupendous. Yes. That's it. Stupendous.
//I may make one now.
///Well, after I get Rose Dawn to 50. 32 as of this writing... -
Quote:If that's your only reason, then you might as well stop the game. I mean, Superman *flies*. Wolverine *uses claws*. And Spawn? *glowy eyes and a cape*.I'd pass long these ideas but I'm pretty sure that if by some chance they made it past initial design the sound of our legal department's heads exploding would be heard here in CA.
Come to think of it, every male character in every show ever made has worn *pants*! Gasp, they're in our game too! Teh Horrorz!
I'm sure that the devs, as awesome as they are, can do some of this, so I am here to offically put my stamp on just about every idea in this thread:
+1 -
You mean, fear, anger, hate, suffering aren't it? Dang, Yoda *lied* to us.

Quote:This right here is why I don't even bother with the PvP. You have the builds that are PvP only which crush my mission oriented PvE characters, and I just don't care to play that game anyway. The only open PvP I'd support would be if it was on a seperate server so I can be free to enjoy PvE without some jacktard harassing me. I have better things to do than wasting my time petitioning and /gignoring morons that can't take no for an answer.
I would *love* to explore those zones more, play them as the rest of the maps, but they just weren't worth the expenditure of grief. I actually *like* Siren's Call as a map, for example, and hunting in it is fun, but I don't want to deal with the uber PvP build screwin' with my hunting. So I'm out.
Which is why this idea won't fly: Unless it's totally a cooperative zone, or at least "don't bother me, I won't bother you" like in Praetoria with the Yellow targets, with the interesting twist of there's no damage unless *both* parties attack each other.
That I could at least deal with: "Oh, verily, thou hast struck me, but I choose rightly to turn the other cheek towards you, and as such, my saintlyness grants me Damage Protection of the Highest Order. Flail away, dear sir, if thou must, and enjoyest thineself to thine fullest. I am off to hunt Spiders."
Unless I felt cheeky, then it'd be "Wouldst thou be wailing upon me? Have at thee!", at which point, both combatants can damage each other until one falls, then it resets.
/That would be Greunfeld speaking.
//Who would likely be the falling one, not PvP, after all. -
Obviously, the family is first, so that's that.
However, if you were being the vigilante, you would then use every means possible to acquire said villain quickly. At which point, you slowly rend them apart one piece at a time, perhaps with a dremel with a wirebrush attachment, sewing up the wounds so they don't bleed out, and prolonging their dispatchment.
This does two things: Vigilante justice for the family being put in jeopardy (regardless of the idea that being the vigilante itself is jeopardizing the family) and sends the message: Don't **** with me or my family, or you will be horribly disposed of.
Perhaps that's more villainous than it should be, but this is mah family. Do. Not. Touch. -
I think you mean Mind/Psi Dom? As such, I have a Mind/Psi Dominator, Cerise Dawn, Pinnacle, who's a 50... and was dinged to 50 before the new Dominator changes made them more powerful than before. I'm kinda proud of that, especially when I only have 4 50s so far in 6.5 years
Yes, I'm slow... and distracted... and have to deal with Real Life(tm). A bad combination. Heh.
Anyway, the control the Mind/Psi Dom can wield is awesome, provided your target doesn't have Mez protection or such. Even still, you can throw them around, which can be handy too. You get the ranged stuff pretty much right away, and in the case of Cerise, she was a 'I am not here to help 'my' team, I'm here to hurt the other team(s)' kinda girl, so I built nothing but malicious Mind/Psi powers in, no help/healing stuff, and a lot of aim to boot. Doesn't do you any good to not have decent aim: If you miss, they'll hurt ya kinda fast.
Whereas with the Widow you'd have to wait to 24 to retrain to the Fortunata Widow to get the more ranged powers. Looks like mostly a closer-in set that you get until then, but I haven't done well with the Widow... I go for a character 'out the box', and don't respec many times, because I have a plan(tm) for that character, and follow it. Characters that are destined to change how they play midway through their careers are... weird. But that's me. So I'm not a good advocate for Widows, not my style.
You can solo a Mind/Psi Dom to a certain extent, but after about 25-30 iirc, it becomes really slow, really fast. You will need teams badly or grind grind grind. And you will need a TON of End Mods, and of course the 16-18-20 Stamina run.
---
I'm currently running Rose Dawn, a Mind/Kin 'Troller, sister to Rose Dawn, 50, Mind/Emp 'Troller, and sister to Cerise. If you have the ability to get a Blue Wisp Pet for the End Mod it gives? Do it. Don't get the Red one (or the equivalent pets, depending on your mood/character needs.)
That is a helpful little bugger. I forget what month that's for, though, so you may not yet have that.
Dunno if I helped any, but there ya go on my experiences. Good luck! -
-
I was there(tm).
Mood Bubbles, my main on Freedom, took part in vanquishing many many Praetorians. Their defeats were slow, and agonizingly painful.
Much like the game is when 4000 people are on at the same time.
It was fun to figure how when things were gonna fire off. And I only crashed once! Yay and such.
I'm glad we beat the heck outta the servers. Mad props to everyone who was there, the devs, and the poor server guys who hadda keep things running, I'm sure.
;dance5 -
It might. It may be more insidious than that... like permanently broken. Or maybe the cooler's loose. Or filled with crud.
Really can't know until you get a temp monitor like Speedfan or whatever works for ATI and see what the temps are, and/or take it apart. -
re: piracy prevention? Easily defeated: Use one or the other lens of the glasses in front of the camera, and it's 2d. Tada.
My sister uses this, she can only see out of one eye, so she only sees one side of the 3d picture, but she still wears the glasses so she can see that side correctly.
Not that I advocate the piracy, of course, but I am just pointing it out: No stopping it.
---
I'm now thinking about taking some of those glasses and putting two lefts or rights in them so I can see 2D when everyone else wants to see the 3d crapfest.
/Only James Cameron's Avatar has done 3D correctly.
//Tron Legacy sucked a little because it's 3D wasn't all that.
///Got it home, 2D, fantastic. -
Co* is still, to this day, the number one thing I do to kill a computer. And while the drivers may cause this, I would be looking at thermal issues. myself.
I would prop up the back of the computer to get it a little more air under it and see what happened. Don't supposed you checked to ensure all is nice and clean, eh?
The reason I suspect it most is, unless you changed the power usage in the BIOS or something, the power used is less when not plugged in, to save the battery. Plugged in, it's maxing out, and overheating, and shutting down. Also, when charging, the circuit and/or battery will also get hot, adding to the thermal issue.
But then, that's just a guess on my end. Hope you find it. -
All that is required is that the writers and directors watch some JL and Superman on Boomerang. That will get them in the right direction. The baddies and the heroes there are pretty much, overall, acceptably on target, especially Superman.
But no, they gotta "go their own way." Frack that. Go the way it's SUPPOSED TO GO. Warner/DC needs to step on some throats and make that be the key.
Superman 1978 got it right. Period. But you can't do that again unless you're rebooting.
Superman II did good, as Lex wanted to rule, and was conniving with the bad boys to do it. Superman made a choice for himself, proving that selfishness is unwise, even for love, and had to make a choice to go back. Good morality stuff.
Superman III? Lame, although the idea of him fighting himself was good, but it just turned... hokey. Badly so. Lois was right not to be in that one.
Superman IV had it right, but was further badly done. Lex as the arms dealer after supes gets rid of the nukes? That sounds about right, although Lex now looks like a money grubber. Not megalomaniacal. But Lenny... ugh. And that whole Underdog/Shoeshine boy thing with the two ladies. Please.
Superman V...er, Returns wasn't... terrible. I actually think this Lex, performed deliciously by Kevin Spacey, was the best one of the films. Super ego, super villianous, plotting, conniving, and INSANELY MAD at Superman, to the point of actually figuring out a way to kill him outright himself with a kryptonite shiv... nearly. Not with some jewelry. Stuck it in Superman, and then BROKE IT OFF. Hardcore. Perfect. I really liked him.
Supes wasn't all that, but passable. Lois was... bad, and worse written... and also had a kid? Killed the whole deal. Seriously. Oh, and the drab suit didn't help.
Anyway, they just need to watch the right stuff on Boomerang, and they should be ok.
/And that goes for Wonder Woman too: JL is good stuff. -
tl;dr, but I think I am one of the only ones who doesn't care *what* map a mission is in, not one. I consider them all a challenge to learn to deal with get through. Solo or team.
Some of the enemies I gotta face though... yeesh. Seriously? an EB solo on 0 at level 10 REALLY?
And yet, I somehow manage.
What gets me is the wonderful tapestries of the rarer missions that I can't stand about and look at. Especially task forces, such as the Woodsman's in Eden. There is a *grand* map there... and it's *rush rush rush* with the team. I just wanna sometimes say "Hold up, y'all... I wanna picture. Ooh, what's over there?" *bounds away* *gets eaten by a Grue*
But no map holds any ill will in my book. The missions might, the enemies I gotta face might, but no map at all. They're all good.
/I'm an only, aren't I? Ah well. Unique is good. -
But of course! Everything is better with BACON. Including the bumper of a Volkswagen.
How do you like those radials? -
Guess where I live. Tada.
No really, that's it. I had struggles at one point somewhere in my life when trying to find a name I liked... and wound up finally picking 'houtex' for it, and... well, it's kinda amazing how often I can do that. So it was obvious to use it here.
Boring, I know.
And yes, it's a correctly spelled 'houtex' on purpose. Not 'Houtex' or 'HouTex'. Just 'houtex'. It's always been that way. No reason, just bein' weird as usual. -
I just came in to say that the Yoko Ono LP throwing would be especially funny if when you cast it and it animated, that it used that screeching monkey Moko Jono from the PowerPuff Girls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=durO4...eature=related
/gotta wait for it just a little bit... -
*looks closely*
*looks back and forth*
AH! Haha! Very nice and subtle! Good job! -
Quote:I've not read any others. I'm going to be honest. First your questions, minus your first:I'm doing an advertising plan for a class right now, and one of the steps in it is finding out who the current users are and why they are current users.
So, why do you play this game? The community? The powers? Being able to fly? Being able to log in whenever and just play? Because you have nothing better to do?
And please be at least semi-serious with your answers since this is for a final project.
The community? Indeed. Best bunch of people to play with, for the most part.
The powers? Yep, there's plenty to choose from, even if they're passive (team) oriented, finding and using them well is quite a challenge.
Being able to fly? Not so much. For a couple of characters, they fly. TP is more fun, and my mains have that. But I also tailor to the character, and SJ and SS are called for... even if inconvenient. And SS can be *quite* inconvenient. I don't brag much, but I consider myself quite the TP artist... but then, who isn't?
Being able to log in whenever and just play? Best $.50 I can spend on my self per day.
Because you have nothing better to do? Sometimes. But I should only use this awesome tool when I don't have anything better to do, as other duties in RL suck... but also take time. And are required. Sigh...
---
Now, for some personalized ones, which fit your first question: "So, why do you play this game?"
Because for the past 5+ years, I've not found it's equivalent.
Because it is still fun to play. Still. Nothing comes close so far.
Because when I'm down, playing this little fantasy world stuff makes me feel better, and keeps me away from the snacks. (ya rly)
Because I keep coming up with different ways to play characters that make it more challenging. A totally dependent character with no offense, for example. Get that to 50.(and I don't PvP, btw, if I did that... that'd be another challenge. Not really interested though.)
Because sometimes, you happen upon a really great team and have a damn good time. When that happens, the game has increased it's awesome by 100%. When a team is so good that you hate to leave it because you have to sleep for work tomorrow? THAT is good stuff.
Oh, I could go on. Summing up, though, it's this:
Co* has been, bar none, my attention getter. I've played other things, and *always* come back home. I can't really explain it except I never get bored with it, it's always fun, and the people are by and large good to play with when I team with them. Even when we truly all suck, it's still fun. Try that with any other game out there. You won't find it, I bet. -
That's not advertising, that's product listing. Kinda big difference. Go find me a banner ad, you.

"You must be this tall..."
