Quote:Not unplayable. But not as fun for alot of people either. I still love the looks of EM (love the pom poms). And it could be the ATs that factor into it as well. Different playstyles and everything.
For my Tanker, I was doing weak damage as it was. Now, I'm doing weak damage, and whiffing on dead bodies in PvE. :/
Look at how they did Dual Pistols...Really awesome animations, crappy damage. I still play it, but it wasnt the unbridled win it could have been. -
Quote:Discipline priest in wow comes close. Decent offense, good heals, power word shield is a good parallel for fortitude. One of the odd things I have always had a problem with is the number of powers in COX that do absolutely nothing for the caster. To be fair, Empathy actually has at least seven "healing" powers, at least as far as general MMO thinking goes. Adrenalin Boost and Regeneration Aura are essentially Heal over Time powers, which in most MMOs are counted as heals rather than buffs. Sure Adrenalin Boost does more than just boost regen, but to the average MMO player anything that makes you get health back faster than you normally would is a "heal". Breaking status effects (Clear Mind) is also something "healer" classes normally do, as is rezzing and often mana (endurance) recovery. Really, the only difference between Empathy and a standard MMO "healer" is Fortitude... most healers have no offensive buffs, those are more likely to be found on hybrids (Paladins, etc...), though in some games they do.
I'm not saying that we need "healers" in CoX teams... our buffs are far stronger than what most MMOs allow and so are our debuffs. But the fact is that if you replaced Fortitude with a PBAoE resist buff and renamed Empaths "Clerics" they'd fit in perfectly in a generic fantasy MMO. And they'd be healers.
Of course that's not counting the Empath's other power set... in fantasy MMOs a healer usually has mez powers, like a Mind / Empathy Controller, and really terrible offense. Again, like a Mind / Empathy Controller. They don't generally start blasting things when they get bored of healing (at least not for enough damage to notice)... which is why I'd much rather play an Empathy Defender than a Cleric.

Quote:Not to mention, there are a few places where Empaths are necessary. Hami raids. Masters of ____ TF. I am sure you could probably do those things without, but they would be a lot more painful. For that matter, a tank isnt necessary for hami. The other messages that are ingrained in our community are "Heals are never useful" and "You should go out of your way to avoid calling Empathy a 'healing' set. I don't think 'radical action' is the solution to anything though. It just entrenches people's position.

Quote:Unplayable. My stone /em tank was made for tanking tf's and the like for friends. The changes made it painful to play on teams, so it has been shelved.Only the fact that it is my only 50 tank and has 1.25 mill prestige have kept it in around. And you can see by the swarms of em toons leveling up that many others feel the same about em.I just don't get statements like that. The change hurt some situations for ET, but... "Unplayable?"
I like EM, in some situations. My EM/EA brute was my first Villainside 50, and was often one of the last ones standing when a situation went south. Plus, pre-I13 PVP, that character often got cussed out as a "(*&$##$ Stalker" - as well as being warned about in broadcast, because "her stuns are brutal." (Slotted a stun duration in most attacks.) Of course, I also *played* that character like a "heavy Stalker," too. It shines with fewer, tougher enemies.
On the flipside, one variant of my namesake character is a Fire/EM tank. On a tank, currently? No, I don't like EM on a fire tank. (This character hit 50 fairly recently.) That's where the ST focus doesn't help. Also, this character didn't really PVP pre-I13, and doesn't all that much after. I don't think EM works as well as a normal "tanking" set and doesn't have all that much synergy with Fire/. It feels somewhat disjointed.
Pair it with a set that doesn't want a bunch of enemies around to "feed" something or that has some other drawback or AOE focus and you'll probably have a better experience with it. -

Quote:This seems to be same version number as here in the old Training Room patch notes; so the fix may just not be noted in the Live patch notes.
Why is there still a problem with the patch notes process? This is a management issue..not software. I cant help but think proper process control wouldnt make life easier on the devs. I mean, they are fixing things and not even giving themselves credit in the notes. -
this seems to be a special case..a bug that stopped us from seeing a problem that would have been changed in beta if it had been seen at the time. While I will fault castle for some things(overnerf of em for ex.) this doesnt seem like that. Of course this does point out the problem of beta testers not knowing what to test..due to a poor change process. Thats a management problem..not castles job. (and it affects a lot more than just the game industry) -
ya, they put these powers in the game, invis, assemble the team.. they obviously intended us to use them..maybe using our brains instead of mindless slaughter. If that isnt true, maybe they need to remove those powers?
-
No, he is saying he will get around to fixing what he broke at a later date.. Maybe when he revisits COP....

I saw it as the typical "problem couldnt be here..must be you.." without a possibility of server side problems. There are a multitude of harware/software combinations running this game. It is entirely possible that the devs do have a problem. Off hand dismissals do not help find these. Of course it is entirely possible the problem is on his side.

Quote:from what he said here, you cant make that determination. You pulled that out of your ***. Try again. If your laptop worked fine on your end, and your main computer didn't, the problem isn't going to be found on the outside of your net connection. It's going to be on your personal computer, or in your personal networking system.
So lay off. You don't know what your are talking about, and from what you've posted here, everybody in NCSoft's technical support did everything right. -
because everyone knows if the game is fine with one set of drivers it must be fine with all drivers.

Quote:By all means, come to the forums and report the problems you've been having. But you've gone way beyond that with multiple posts that are nothing more than repeated rants. It's not necessary or constructive. This thread is not your personal ***** and moan blog.
And I repeat, if your machine is overheating, even if it's only while playing CoH, then the problem is with your machine, not the game.
It's like saying "my car only overheats when I'm on the interstate, so clearly there is something wrong with the road". Doesn't make a lot of sense. It's the same for computers.
Check to ensure all the fans are working and the vents aren't clogged. Also take note of the ambient temperature. I don't know where you live but many parts of the US are having a bit of a heatwave. The greater the ambient temp the hotter your machine will run. You should also make sure that vsync is turned on; it could allow your machine to run cooler.
You have no clue as to what you are talking about. -
that isnt the point. content that people that play the game extensively through all levels never see, might as well not exist. Just because a few dev junkies run in and drool on command does not make it so. The only part of this game that i dont participate in is AE(i did it in beta). The devs need to lay off on the smart *** replies and lay on with some results. fix the long standing bugs or tell us they arent on the schedule due to costs/time constraints/convoluted code. I understand there are things they wont be able to fix. But man up and move on. saying it will be fixed "soon" doesnt cut it when it is obvious it wont ever be fixed. (cathedral of pain is a classic example)

They are like respec recipes, they dont really exist. They were just put in patch notes to make it look like the devs were doing something. 18 50's and not a single respec recipe had dropped....

Quote:Not testing with IO's could be why we keep seeing these IO nerfs..No real testing due to lack of availability.Yeah, this is one place test should be (somewhat) different - though I'd say the "manually stock the market" would probably be the better approach.
After all, when we get to GR beta'ing (still have to test Electric Control and Kinetic Melee, as well as just *base* ideas on how easy/tough new enemies are,) a base performance as opposed to "this is how it looks when IO'd to the gills" is more important - and seeing afterward how insane it could be when you ARE IO'd to the gills would help, too. (And then of course there's "trying out newly released sets.") -
Quote:and they cant form a freaking team? or did their mothers tie a pork chop around their neck to get the dog to play with them. It is amazing the number of people that whine that no one will invite them to a team. yet they refuse to start one. Its like the 15 lowbies in atlas all broadcasting "lft". start a team, be a leader. stop acting like 9 year olds. They pretty much have to nowadays since theres next to no teaming outside of it thanks to AE.
Thats not the only person thats left because of AE, it pretty much killed EU I found. My entire SG left within a month of its release and havent been back since. Even myself, if it doesnt get sorted properly soon i wont be staying either.
Just because farmers love it, doesnt mean the actual people wanting to play a decent regular game do. -
Quote:Im calling for the closing of AE and making the place into a hero museum..or a walmart.I'm feeling adventurous today and so will go with the following:
I don't want you to be able to play like this in the AE.
This kind of playstyle is perfectly doable in regular content. It's called the Super Sidekicking System. It lets you fight with a team at higher levels than you are, gaining xp, influence/infamy, merits, salvage, recipes, inspirations, etc.
There are currently over 3,000 pages of 'arcs' in the AE.
The following keywords denote blatant farming and powerlevelling:
Farm
Tickets
H.D.S.
Anti-Portal
XP
(Meow/Miaow etc arcs are still on the system! Delete them!)
Although the Developers have a job to rebalance everythign and have gotten it wrong on more than one occasion, Player Greed and the desire to achieve something for nothing have created this problem.
If farmers, mass exploiters, cheaters and the like are so sure that they have a good argument why they should be allowed to continue doing so then why are there multiple copies of the same 'arcs'? Just given a different flavour?
I am not calling for account bans, suspensions or such. I'm calling for suspension from the AE with regards to creating content. If you can't play responsibly, then the privelege is removed. End of story. -

Quote:If the devs can ignore a player problem for a few weeks, it is unlikely to ever be fixed. They have a track record of this. They always get pulled away to make the next new gimmick instead of staying on task. I dont blame the devs,,it is a management problem. patience is waiting for cathedral of pain to come back. AE is dead as far as a lot of people are concerned. There is using the system, and "using" the system. If players are doing things with the current set up that fall too far outside of what the intent of the system is (no matter if it's PvP, or AE, or something in PvE), the Devs have full rights and responsibility to take care of those outliers. If you choose to live in that gray area, don't be upset when your toy gets taken away or changed.
If you don't have the patience to hang with AE as it goes through its evolution, there's no hope for you. Every MMO changes, and not everyone is happy with any change. Fact of life. To expect otherwise is just gonna make your brain hurt. -

Quote:I have player this game since before i7. When respec recipes were released I said "cool". i have leveled 16 50's since then and have seen zero drop. (wether or not they are on ww is immaterial) as far as i am concerned they have a drop rate of zero. I dont farm. evidently you must farm to get one of these. While you don't need any of the loot items they have introduced a well founded loot system can drive a hack n' slash game* for years and to new heights of success. I think Diablo 2 would be a great example.
Loot is carrot on a stick that is virtually unparalleled. CoX tried to tap into that and has done a moderately successful job of it given the restrictions of the game (you can't have visual loot nearly as much as other systems use).
It is an optional system, but they 100% want you to feel compelled, even driven, to attain it.
*CoX is a hack n' slash game, make no mistake. 99.9% of the game consists of mowing down hordes of enemies.
