Quote:I think that the amount of time it would take a community rep (whose job it is to give us the news) to let us know what the problem is, would definitely give us a lot of peace of mind in knowing it was a necessary pull. It doesn't even have to be a very descriptive description. I would settle for simple to understand basic descriptions of problems.
Plus if they told us what the problem was now, after the server was down, there would no risk of us using an exploit they were patching or what-not is there..
It just shows a lack of respect for the paying customer that the servers get brought down during the 2xp weekend with No Explanation. "Maintenance" is not an explanation. That happens every week during the early morning hours, not during prime play hours during an event! Add to it, that this is an even that has been rescheduled already due to Maintenance, and you get a fan base that is fairly upset, and I am not the only one. The whole team I was on is very upset. We were all actively cursing when the red-letter announcement came over the chat window.
Please sate our desire for an event to be un-marred by reschedules and maintenance.
a generic "We are fixing a server stability issue" or
"We are using the servers to update our EDating profiles" or even
" we are using the server room for wild monkey sex and the fans bother us"
would work fine for an explanation.
then we can discuss the pros and cons of wild verses tame monkeys.
cmon, made you smile a little bit... -

10,000 Paragon points on live
You admit Staff Melee is real and give me early access to it
Revamp Luddites
Tell me what the next Incarnate slots do
If you don't fulfill my demands, then this down time is a slap in the face. -
chances are it was a problem with players getting too much rewards for something. Like raids or the like.

now do you think we will see the fix for this next tuesday? didnt think so

Quote:there are some chinese businessmen that would love to help with this. That seems to be the people this is intended to help.So a same-level sideways conversion costs 150 threads?
Really? REALLY?
That's... a rather steep conversion cost. In fact, it seems almost laughable, if not insulting, if that's supposed to be a serious attempt to provide a "reasonable" cost for converting one UR component to another.
Of course, we also still have the absurd INF costs for the high-end components, which effectively price the 4th Tier components out of reach of I'd guess 90% of the casual players and probably half of the hardcore players.
I know that I'm not the only one who's pointed out repeatedly that these prices are really only feasible for farmers. In fact, the complaints about the INF costs have been second only to complaints about the rewards drops. So why don't we even get an acknowledgement that anyone has so much as heard this?

Quote:Just in case you weren't aware, but you're not required to use PvP IOs. I know, I know, that's a pretty outrageous comment, but it's the truth!
Also, if you're going to complain about them, you should also complain about Purples, as well as the actual freaking drop rate of PvP IOs. ATM, it's probably easier to get them via A-Merits than PvP.
you arent required to lrvl past lvl 1. but it is a neat idea. -

Quote:While they are at it, there are way too many mobs that give no xp yet can give debt. Fix it. COP gives no drops, not even inspirations...fix it.Then why do I get the best rewards on my 50 by steamrolling TFs full of -1s with little-to-no risk?
tl;dr: Enemies over 50 should drop more stuff the more levels they are over 50.
Maybe toons with mez protection should get less inf/xp. they have less risk.
Exactly who is going to farm death shamans at this point in the game? return xp to their summoned minions. etc etc. There is a long list of things the devs nerfed xp to in order to stop farming. -
Quote:2 points of passive protection=tank mage...riiiggghht. you like the present imbalance and want to keep it.Defenders can solo fine, just not at the speed and ease of a Scrapper. And if you want a reason, it's because Scrappers don't have Fulcrum Shift, Dispersion Bubble, and Fortitude. Some classes are built for soloing, and some for teaming. They fill different roles and perform in some areas better than others. That's basically the definition of a class system.
What you're asking for is for Defenders (and other non-melee ATs) to be tankmages who can solo like a Scrapper AND buff teams in ways that Scrappers can only dream of. Failing that, you want to nerf Scrappers out of spite.
as for fortitude, you might have a point if fort could be self cast...... -
Funny the same people howling that scrappers should be able to solo are against squishies having any sort of passive mez protection. Why exactly should a scrapper be able to solo, yet a defender cannot. And no, scrappers are not tanks. if you want to tank, roll one. One of the nice things about COX is the bleedover between AT's. You can find exceptions for just about any role/rule. There are tools available that a scrapper can solo without mez protection, if he chooses to take them. It just wouldnt be a easy as it is now.
-
Quote:Scrappers dont need mez protection any more than blasters or defenders do. You can team and get buffed. You can take TP and be in melee range instantly. You have high defense to prevent a lot of it from hitting you. You shouldnt be taking the alpha strike, that is the tanks job. He/she need mez prot, not the scrapper. Oh yeah, you can always pop breakfrees. Your defensive toggles wont even drop. Why is it the rationalization for squishies not having any mez protection no matter how minor doesnt apply to scrappers? Scrappers are DPS. they are not and should never be tanks. If they do have a tanking role their damage should be lowered. Blasters gained damage to make up for no defense. Scrappers have high damage and good defense. What exactly did they give up to maintain balance?Yes, brilliant idea. Make scrappers all but impossible to play without having an Empath in their back pocket all the time.
And no, support characters are NOT impossible to play without an Empath, myself and several thousand other people prove that on a daily basis.
If you strip away mez protection from scrappers, you will be relegating them to the "why would anyone play this AT?" category. Most have no way to reliably mez an opponent first, and even the ones who DO must be in melee range before they can. How exactly is that Broadsword/Shield/Body scrapper going to stop an opponent from mezzing them? Especially if it is a non-positional mez like Carnies and Rikti will throw at you.
It sounds very much like you don't play scrappers. If you do play them, try this: Log your scrapper in and run a Malta or Carnies mission with your mez protection turned off and see how long you live. Even if you're playing one of the sets with a mez in the primary, you still have to get into melee range first.
I have said it, and others have said it. Melee characters get mez protection because they have zero inherent ability to pre-empt a mezzing attack at range, and since they are forced into melee range, they will be getting hit with both melee and ranged mezzes. Support characters do not get mez protection because the majority of them do have the ability to pre-empt them in either their primary or secondary. Also, a support character can avoid melee mezzes completely and remain combat effective.
Granted, support ATs do not have 100% reliable mitigation, but if you slot some accuracy, your mitigation should be at 95% against LTs and lower. And yes, I know there are enemies above LT, but you can choose to not face bosses while solo, which is where the majority of the complaints seem to be coming from.
Complaints about fighting bosses with mez powers on support ATs was addressed when they gave us the ability to downgrade them to LTs. And for the record, yes, a Freak Tank or Fake Nemesis that is downgraded to an LT DOES count towards the badges, so getting the badges you need to kill bosses for is no excuse. I frequently downgrade bosses to LTs on my support characters, because A) If they have mez powers I can mez them first, and B) They die faster so I don't have to spend so long hitting one dude.
You don't have to fight those mezzing bosses while solo, and on a team they shouldn't be a problem.
How exactly is stripping the mez protection from scrappers addressing your problem at all? It really doesn't, because scrappers need it to function properly, and support ATs have been getting along just fine for 6+ years without it. You're also failing to take into account the likelyhood that if support ATs are given passive mez protection, the amount of mez being thrown around in the game will increase dramatically, and no one wants that, not even me. -
that is why a majority of an emps powers are team buffs/heals. so they can help their scrapper team mates.
-
1. rad ...any hold/stun etc stops the debuffs and thats it for the rad. wait for them to recharge??you wont live that long. All blast sets do not have holds. looking at you fire. There are enough enemies that have status protection to make them very difficult. There are enough enemies that have +perception to make shadowfall and the like worthless.
2. ok, tanks need status protection to do their jobs. Why do scrappers need it? they are dps, just like a blaster. They can rely on their team mates. cm will keep them up. They dont need to solo any more than an emp.
3. blasters traded protection for more damage. what did scrappers trade for their high damage levels? nothing. If they take tp they can be in melee range of any mob in an instant. -
Oh and to reply to an earlier point, every melee toon has the ability to take teleport and be in instant melee range of any enemy. Since many of them have stuns and other holds that should take care of their need for passive protection.

just dont ask, dont ask for fitness to be inherent, dont ask for ferrys/trams to be one long line, dont ask for the ability to change characters without logging off, dont ask for sending inf through emails, dont ask...wait a min. people asked and they changed the game....

Quote:A melee at has about the same build solo or teamed and works fine. To give my emp the ability to solo i leave off heal other, fortitude, cm, rez, and ab. That build would get me kicked off a team in a second. To do the things that you refer to defenders doing(gm or av killing) you remove your ability to team. The number of tanks that wont take or use taunt is annoying. Yes, you get to choose your powers and play how you will. just dont expect those buffs you were wanting.See, here you go again calling me a hypocrite.
I have been saying from the beginning of this thread that support ATs are just fine the way they are, not because I feel they should be dependent on a melee AT, but because I have not seen anything to suggest that they actually ARE dependent on a melee AT.
If support ATs were TRULY dependent on melee ATs to survive, it would be flat out impossible to solo one. It is not. Myself, and thousands of other players solo them all the time. If they were completely dependent on melee ATs, as you assert they are, none of us would be able to do that.
Sure, some melee characters can solo on x8, but not every single one with any build. A smaller number of them can solo AVs.
On the reverse side, a number of support ATs can solo AVs as well, many of them can do it even faster than any melee AT. Yes, it requires an expensive build to do, but you don't really believe melee ATs are doing it on SOs, do you?
Additionally, some support ATs can solo Giant Monsters, due to the amount of debuffs a lot of them are packing. I have YET to see a melee character of any AT at all that can make the same verifiable claim.
Do you know WHY Generic Scrapper solos better than Generic Defender? I do, it's because Generic Defender brings more to a team on SOs than Generic Scrapper ever will, even with the most expensive build possible. You want Generic Defender to solo better? You should be campaigning to have Generic Scrapper become more useful to a team. Because it isn't fair to ask for better soloing for support ATs, while they retain the same amount of team support. If support should solo better, melee should bring more to a team.
A team comprised of Defenders, Controllers and Blasters has no need or use for a Tank or Scrapper, and in fact will make either one pretty much redundant. I speak from experience on this. I was the sole melee AT on a team with exactly that composition, and I have never felt more useless on a team before or since. The Controllers locked the spawn down, and the Defender buffed Blasters melted it before I even got close enough to attack ONCE, let alone actually kill something.
So, melee ATs get more ability to solo because the more support ATs you add to a team, the more useless melee gets.
That tricked out defender soloing gm's? 1 stun and he is toast. The offensive debuffs like RI drop and you have to wait for them to recharge while big and ugly is pounding on you. The point is, as long as melee is completely self sufficient, speed ITF's will be an annoying reality. Melee seems to be ok with squishies having challenge but want none of it for themselves. -
Quote:The problem with ally buffs not being usable on yourself isn't with the power itself, it's because you can't target yourself. If you could target yourself, all those buffs probably would be usable on you.
Problem there is, if we could do that things like Empathy and Thermal would quickly get overpowered. 100% recharge boost, more regeneration than a target capped Willpower, stackable mez protection, and perma Fortitude would make an Empathy defender one of the most powerful characters in the game.
If they gave us that, expect those buffs to get the crap nerfed out of them in trade. Downside to that is an Empathy character would get a whole lot less useful to a team because their buffs aren't as potent anymore.
All those Ally Only buffs are only as powerful as they are because you can't use them on yourself.
Problem is, as the game changes and your melee toons get buffed, those sets stay pretty much the same. so when you run your fully capped brute/tank/scrapper through an itf like a wheat thresher, your support gets left behind, dead most likely. The only way to avoid that is to not take ally buffs and take the fighting pool instead. Tanks lately have no idea how to hold agro, I have repeatedly come across tanks that dont know what the agro cap is. I tell tanks that if I have to fight for my life, they get no buffs. I am not a suicide buffer. want sb? keep agro. that simple. so seeing melee get the nerf bat is not that an unpleasant concept for me, many of them are not team players and need to be brought down to where the rest of us live.
edit. you might notice, there are no purple sets for empath powers. just sayin -
Quote:make it usable on self..then ill always take itAnd this is why powers like Increase Density, Thaw, and Clarity exist. I have never seen an Empath or /Pain Domination not take Clear Mind or Enforced Morale, but have seen many /Kinetics, /Thermals, and /Sonics pass on taking their Mez Resist granting powers, mostly at lower levels. Hopefully i19 might help remedy that. USE EM!

Quote:then to make this game more difficult for the scrappers yelling for higher difficulty, they should remove mez prot for melee's. good idea.It DOES provide a shortening of the duration of effects. When you have it slotted, any status effect that hits you will be shortened by 7.5%.
10% of 12 seconds is 1.2 seconds, so 7.5% is less than that. It IS shortening the duration, but you probably aren't noticing it.
It does not claim to do anything that it doesn't do, thus there is no bait and switch involved at all.
If you slotted it expecting to be protected from mez effects, or have them reduced by a significant amount, the problem is that you failed to understand the durations involved, rather than a problem inherent within the IO itself.
Most people DON'T slot it because they understand that it's effectiveness is minimal at best. Chalk it up to a lesson learned and don't slot it in the future.
If every character in the game had reliable mez protection, a lot of the enemies that are challenging would be pushovers. And that probably isn't a good thing for the game. -
Quote:What??? Do you think Smite makes Right??and you call yourself a superhero......Next you're going to say that my Team: Paragon t-shirt is a fake. What about my autographed Matt Miller bobblehead, huh? Do *you* have one of those? I didn't think so.
You're just lucky I don't have Castle smite you. Don't think he won't do it, either. Two years ago I had a scuffle with a poster named PeterV and I asked Castle to smite him. If it wasn't for the fact his aim was really off that week... but I digress. -
Quote:why are they called marketing if they never actually market anything? About all they seem to do is stop the dev team from talking.Seeing as how marketing would probably string her up by her coat tails if she revealed any new features they are working on for future issues, that interview surprised anyone.?
Really?
Have you not been paying attention to the marketing style of NCSoft/PS?
They sure as hell would not reveal anything in an interview till it's good and near ready to be put into closed beta.
EDIT: Some of the people on these forums are acting like this is their first time reading or posting on these forums. Sheesh. -
