I like to think that some of my complaining helped to bring about Reward Merits. As a solo player, I vented that for a lot more time investment, I was getting "piddly SOs" for completing arcs, while others were getting recipes from running task forces. I thought merits were great to help equalize things.
I also chimed in with the idea to add extra damage to Vigilance for defenders, depending on team size. The idea was tweaked some, but I think I was one of the first ones (in a lengthy thread) to suggest that. -
Quote:I've said this in other threads, but same here. I got into CoH on a lark because a number of friends were checking it out at the time and I happened to like superheroes. I wasn't looking for an MMO, and for gaming tend not to be all that social (I solo a lot). I just happened to really like CoH, so I stuck with it. It was good, and it was familiar.I don't need NCSoft. They do need my (and your) money. As for mine they won't get it for anything other than COH.
My son always asks me "why won't you play Minecraft? It's great!"...and I'm sure it is. But, why play it if I'm perfectly happy playing CoH, which I know I like? Why bother with a learning curve on a new game that I really don't have an impetus to play? Same goes for other MMOs (especially fantasy ones - I just am not into fantasy. Don't play D&D, haven't read or watched any of the LOTR trilogy, etc. Just not my thing. Well, though I did like the original Final Fantasy, I suppose). There's no draw.
If I wind up playing anything...it will be Civ IV. I've had that for ages and have never fully explored it (because I was playing CoH). Untold hours I can kill, right there. -
Hrm...well, I let everything through in NoScript, don't have the flashblock extension installed. Maybe it's being blocked somewhere up the chain. *shrug*

Do you have to log in to see the stream? All I get is the Freedom logo (but I can see the chat).

I know a lot of folks are showing excitement over "hitting CNN"...but that to me looks like a write-up posted by an amateur (likely a player). I assume just about anyone with a login on their iReport site can do that.
Quote:Now, I'm not at all saying this isn't a good way to get visibility on CNN. But, I think a better way to approach this would be to post a more professional article (or press release), rather than something written in the first person.iReport receives, on average, 500 iReports a day, and a fraction of those are vetted and approved for CNN's non-user-generated networks and platforms, which involves fact-checking and verifying the details of a story. When a story is approved, the "Not Vetted for CNN" bar disappears and is replaced by a red "CNN iReport" bug that lets the community know a story has been verified. Our producers also give iReport stories extra context, by adding producer notes with further details, CNN reporting, and/or additional quotes from the iReporter. -
Quote:There was a follow up on Kotaku following the news, but that was a couple of days ago and it cycled through really quickly. I don't know if there has been more since."So that's two articles from one site I've barely even heard of, and one I've never heard of. Where is Kotaku? Where is The Verge? Where is Ars Technica? FFS, where's Slashdot, even?"
If anybody knows how to get ahold of (or post articles to) Kokatu, The Verge, Ars Technica, or Slashdot, they oughta try.

edit: the few comments that are there weren't kind, either. -
I don't get how they would benefit by sitting on it unless they were keeping the option for a CoH 2*. The property isn't worth much w/o a game - there is no merchandising, programming (CoH: The Movie!), etc. I don't think competition is a concern if they are indeed focusing on the Asian market rather than the NA one as it has already been demonstrated that CoH failed to catch on in the Asian market.
* The only thing I can't guess on is the ablility to write off the acquisition of CoH as a complete loss. I don't know the details of the sale (maybe someone here does?), and if the cost of the IP itself could be isolated. I would think though that the value of the IP and the loss from closing the studio would be distinct. But if someone is willing to make an offer on the IP, I don't know how they could they could write off the IP as a total loss. -
Heck, NCSoft could make a quick buck by having a dev or two put together a package that could allow you to run a personal server. Charge $30 for it by download. I know I'd pay it.

This is the only MMO I've played, so...nowhere, I guess. I'll have to find other non-MMO things to do. I enjoyed CoH on its own merits, not because it was part of a particular gaming genre.

Quote:I'll agree with this, and I'll also add that on the support characters that I do make, I'd be more apt to actually take those powers, or at least take them earlier. Like my Sonic defender, or my Water/Ice corr. If I'm going to primarily try to solo...why hurry in taking any shields? Odds are, most of the time I'm not going to need them anyway (unless/until I need them for set mules or knockback procs). But then I don't take them, and figure "well I'm not going to be any good to a team anyway - I didn't take my shields!" Or my NRG/Kin corr, who didn't have Speed Boost until level 30 (where I basically had to to SB my Adept when I got it).I don't often play support-heavy powersets because I like having the option to solo as well as to team. So instead of defenders I roll corruptors, masterminds and controllers who have the damage and tools to enable me to play them solo, and pick secondaries that can assist in those goals.
If those support-oriented powersets had a little something to give the caster for if they happen to be solo, I'd be more likely to roll them, which means there'd be more characters of mine that could help support teams. -
This would require programming I assume so it's not something that Zwill and Co. could do by themselves, but what if a new invasion mechanic was used where rather than all the players standing say, on the hill in Talos and all the invaders spawned there, spawns happened at points around the zone and then advanced on a given area?
Sort of like the mechanics of the Protect the Henge and the Fir Bolg escape missions in Croatoa. Or the escapee phase of BAF, only targeted to a single point. The goal is to keep the number of mobs that have crossed into a circle, or maybe the block surrounding the hill, below a certain number (but unlike the escape, at least let you deal with them once they get there). -
I suppose I could dust off my PB and AR/Dev, but I don't know if it will stick - they'll still probably get lapped by my WB/Ice Corr, Sonic Def, and whatever newer sets I try next (Dark control, Nature Aff, Street Justice).

Quote:Yeah yeah, thread necromancy. I decided to try my Water/Ice Corr against this arc, and The Zealous One ripped through me. Repeatedly. Died once after popping a large purple, almost immediately. Died again before the insps for the vet revive power wore off. Died again after eating three small purples, then again after another large purple. And then I quit. Not worth it. And not fun.The final elite boss didn't strike me as anything special, really. All it took was a medium purple I'd gotten dropped off a level 30 something and a couple of healing inspirations. Granted, I was on a Scrapper, but it's hardly the sturdiest or best Scrapper out there.

Light blue suits, golf wear, yacht attire, and an unlimited supply of college sweatshirts. I'm good with this.

Quote:Oh dear...if they let us have statues of our characters for bases, the fun will be ENDLESS, especially if we can move said statues around the base via the editor.
BWAHAHAHAHA.
I tried to have banners for each of my 50s in the SG base, but the banner system is too finicky. I can't imagine a collection of statues.
(my motives are not quite as...mischievous as yours may be) -
Quote:Absolutely agreed. At least on Virtue (I tried a couple times on Champion and gave up) if I entered the queue I knew I would enter the event in no more than five minutes, and often immediately. With no sense of how many are in the queue for larger trials there is no way I am going to sit in it.I really like the 4 player team mechanic because it makes the LFG tool actually useful. You can throw 4 players together pretty easily, but trying to randomly form bigger teams for events like a DfB or other trial just doesn't work well. if you're lucky, someone forms a nearly complete team to run the event you want, but leaves a spot or two open for someone from the queue to drop in...
Four was a nice number for the task at hand, too. It's a size where I think just about any team can complete it, but different team mixes can give a different feel to the event (though it probably helped that I played it on about ten different characters). With the resistance of some of the AVs, some of the longer times were actually when there were two Dual Blades, or two Broadswords and a Claws. One of the faster times was with two Emps (interestingly all three times I was one of the duplicates). Heck, one of the best runs was on my Ice/Time troller when due to a bug we ran it with only three. -

Quote:For whatever reason, I like the idea of participating in a movie more than participate in a virtual reality training simulator.I more liked the idea of participating in a movie. It gave some pretty good moments without having to run an arc. I'd like to see the cinema stay up year round, and have them add more features, maybe even limit the time on the runs of each one. Just link the in game theaters to the lobby map and let us pick which feature we want to run.
I very seldom run team content, but I've been running these whenever I can after getting a really late start on things (trepidation to them being too much like iTrials, I guess). The promise of really nice IO doesn't hurt of course.
I wouldn't mind if the event was extended, but I do get that it can't be up forever or else it wouldn't be an event. I would very much like to see the theater return with a couple new flicks in a couple months though. -
Well, any fears I had about the event were put to rest today. I've run it seven times on a wide variety of characters, and all runs succeeded. One even achieved all of the badges other than Ninja Monkey. I've completed all of the roles, and while they aren't difficult, they do a good job of keeping you engaged. Overall, a very enjoyable event.

My daughter just made a logo (in Illustrator - 10yo learning early) to serve as a "cutie mark" in a My Little Pony maker. The logo was a lightning bolt over two wave lines. The name? Flash Flood.
