Find some low-damage minions in the mish and irritate them into following you, but don't kill them. Let them continue to attack you and contribute to fury. Then you can run +0x1 missions with a much higher fury bar.
Invulnerability tanker is similar: find a bunch of lowbies to activate your Def in Invulnerability, then you are much tougher. Big groups are easier than small ones for Invul. -
Quote:Personally I have use for Invisibility on Bot/FF. If I want to ghost a mission, first I kill them all, then no one can see me.
That should have been "I have NO use for Invisibility on Bots/FF." *sigh*
Quote:Awesome. I wasn't sure about group fly anyways. And it gave me a chance to pick up Invisibility earlier which I desperately wanted to as well as pick up Power Boost. Anything else???
Mace Beam Volley also strikes me as questionable. If you really want to shoot energy at foes, fine. But even this power pales against the damage your bots can do. Web Envelope will stick down foes so they get trapped longer in your Assault Bots burn patches. This normally means much more damage than one AoE attack, and one of the main reasons why Black Scorpion is popular with Bots/ MMs (Scorpion Shield being the other.)
So again, nothing wrong with playing the way you want, but I chose Web Envelope, Scorpion Shield and Power Boost on my Bots/FF. -
Overall it looks ok. Personally I have use for Invisibility on Bot/FF. If I want to ghost a mission, first I kill them all, then no one can see me. But if your friend wants it, or he PvPs or something, it's fine to do different things.
Group Fly is kinda questionable though. It doesn't help you transport your bots; they follow you just fine even if they have to run on the ground, and teams will kick you if you turn it on. Power Boost from Black Scorpion is an obvious replacement. -
Quote:Each AT excels at their main role. The main role of a Brute (despite what many raging fanboys say) is that of Aggro Management, which is a sub-category of Crowd Control.
I would have said that Brute shine on Damage, mostly Melee damage. Tanking/Aggro Management would be secondary or tertiary, depending on the build.
Quote:A Brute will shine in the situations where crowd control is needed (such as the last mission of the LRSF, to take the alpha
Any brute paired with my Bots/FF MM can take alphas, as +33% Def on top of whatever Resists or Defs they have already is usually enough to make them nigh invulnerable.
The important bit here is team work, and being a smart player. Think it out, use what you got effectively. No class is really great on it's own. Put a two or more classes or players together and remarkable things happen. And in a multiplayer game, that's the way it should be. Soloing is possible but teaming is very rewarding.
Quote:MMs get a rather unique advantage in that they can benefit from their own buffs, making them a powerhouse by themselves; even superior to poorly coordinated mid sized teams (aka most PuGs).
This bit I'd definitely agree with. -
I have a Bots/FF (actually, several, one at 50), so I'll try to give some hints on FF.
1) Is it possible to softcap my pets defense? and myself as well?
Softcap, not sure, but between basic IOs and Leadership:Maneuvers I can hit about 33 Def, which is more than some Def based tankers. However, enemy attacks with -Def here is really hard on you, because you don't have much (any? I'd have to look) DefenseDebuf resistance, so "cascade failure" can happen pretty quickly.
2) How would Ninjas/FF be like, soloing EB's?
I've never had any trouble with EBs, even before the Assault Bot. Force Bolt them on their backs and let your pets chip away at them.
3) Is it possible for a Ninjas/FF to be able to solo some AV's at end game?
Dunno, but FF is generally not regarded as an AV soloer with out help of some type (temp powers, etc.) I have pretty terrible luck with true AVs.
4) Considering that in BG mode, I have to wait to get hit in order for my pets to attack, should I bother with Tankerminding with such a defense oriented set? (Since it would take a long time for me to get hit, especially if I'm softcapped.) Is Tankerminding the way to go with this setup in the first place?
As mentioned, it's the attack that counts, not the hit. A swing and a miss will engage your pets. You might be able to Tanker Mind with Personal Force Field and Aid Self. If you really want to, it's worth a shot imo.
5) Considering that I don't see any heals on this particular combination, will the Medicine pool be a necessity? (I'm fine with Medicine, just making sure that I'm not missing some heal in some patron power or somesuch) Or should I bother with healing at all, if we're softcapped? And just let the ninja robot die if he gets two shotted, and resummon?
Can't say, but I'd try it. Medicine does wonders for bots, and they have two heals themselves.
6) I'd rather not have Teleportation, but will it be necessary for Ninjas? Since I hear they tend to go all over the place sometimes. Or will just minding to control them more suffice?
Once you get used to managing them, TP is not needed. I use Recall Friend these days more often on team mates than bots. I'd pick which ever travel power you fancy and go with that. -
I don't think the pets have got stupider, I think we're just learning what to look for more.
My consolation is: at least the enemy AI is just as dumb. By learning from my pets I can get idea how to confuse or take advantage of enemy AI. What goes around comes around, I guess. -
Quote:That was just an example. There's lots of things they could have announced for purchases of the full EU package and announced it in parallel with the GameStop announcement which wouldn't have affected exclusivity.
Instead nada, and Avatea has to post another "We're looking into things for you" post. Thats poor management and poor PR (not on Avs behalf, but on those formulating and coordinating these campaigns).
I certainly can't see any reason for a potential new EU player to purchase an EU version of the game.
I do disagree that Paragon S. has been "poor" about this. There are likely constraints that we don't see.
For example, if Paragon S. is trying to get a hardcopy distributer lined up in Europe, how could they do so if all the goodies were already made available now? Even if the announce "we'll release the goodies electronically for Europe" would scare off anyone thinking about making a disc, since their exclusive could just be had later.
Even an electronic only "Euro Pack" would have to be supported by an advertising campaign to be worthwhile, and do they have the staff do so? I'm not even sure they do. There's at least three big markets in Europe that have to be handled separately -- England, France, Germany -- and each one is going to need it's own print copy, approval, regulatory issues, etc.
I agree "it sucks" but I don't agree that it's Paragon S. fault or they've been "poor" about it. It's just dollars and cents and how it adds up.
Hopefully Paragon S. will be able to commit to something for Europe, even if not at release. A Euro Pack a month or two after release might be doable, kinda like how the Mac release stuff was eventually put into a booster pack. -
You could call it Chi energy I guess. That might be considered Natural or maybe Magic. It all depends I think on what color you choose to make bubbles.
It never hurts to help. -
Quote:I was going to say the same thing. Also, "overcame death itself" seems a bit like Ghost Widow, and the whole "Seers" thing also seems like GW's Fortunata Seers. I realize that Mother Mayhem is supposed to be an analog of Sister Psyche, but I'm also getting a "like Ghost Widow" vibe off of her.The screenshot makes it look like the seers hover in the air kind of like the Mu from CoV and the body position of the three Seers on the web page appears to support that idea.
Interesting.....

I do wonder if there's a connection. Perhaps The Weaver is alive and well in Praetorian Earth? -
You can also Frankenslot to get benefits that you woudn't normally be able to get.
For example, Mind Link allows you to slot Def or To-Hit, but not Recharge. Yet I can slot a Def/Recharge IO and the Recharge is NOT ignored, it acts normally. So I ignore IO Set bonuses and 4 Frakenslot Def/Recharge. This gives near perma Mind Link at, I think it was level 26 or so with Hasten, on a Night Widow and will give a Fortunata Mind Link more than 50% of the time. It's a great thing but you have to Frankenslot to do it cheaply.
This is a bug but Castle has publicly stated that he considers it "interesting" and isn't planning on changing it. Basically by giving up set bonuses you gain other benefits. Either higher-than-set-enhancement values like Guy Perfect, or enhancements you couldn't get at all like my Widow. -
While I appreciate the sentiment, all of these things you listed are pretty much last on my personal list. Busywork updating zones is not what I want. I'd like new content. More types of maps, more types of missions. Art work in support of more things to *do* in a mission besides just kill-all, escort, and find/destroy the dingus.
For the most part, the Zones are fine. Atlas Park is a bit dated in various ways, but I'm also nostalgic about it; I really don't want AP changed. New content in Boomtown or Brickstown would be much better use of art resources, imo. I'd like content zone revamps, not just pretty shinny stuff that just sits there. -
Nope, this is it. The masterminds' forum is where the guides are all at.
If you have a specific question, I'm sure folks would be happy to answer it. -
Quote:"Some form of Attack macro" covers that. Using petcom_name this way was pretty well explained in the guides stickied at the top of these forums, I thought.use petcom_name and a suitable string in each name to divide them into functional groups,
Quote:It is a massively verbose way of explaining that though. -
I'm not an expert on this (I have a Necro/Therm, and a Fire/Dark corruptor, but no necro/dark), but here's some choices you might consider removing:
Extraction
Petri. Gaze, Shadow Fall
Everything else is pretty much required, imo. -
Quote:Be careful here because you actually lose bodyguard mode as your pets attack that first target. I prefer to leave some of my pets on Def Follow, and set others to attack a certain target. That way I keep some bodyguard mode all the time. Or I just leave everything on Def Follow and wade in myself with some attack. This macro works by keeping all of your pets in bodyguard mode
Atk macro : /macro "ATK" "petcom_all defensive attack"
After the target dies, your pets do return to defensive stance and you re-acquire bodyguard mode with this macro, so it's still a good one. Your pets continue to attack because they've drawn aggro and will defend you (or each other) while you still have bodyguard mode.
However at this point your pets are attacking all over the place. I usually continue to have some of my pets attack a specific target, ordering each attack as the fight evolves, while leaving some of my pets on bodyguard (def follow). That way I still have some bodyguard and targets continue to die fast.
This is easy with ranged pets. It's harder with melee pets. Frankly I've never got the hang of goto/attack with Zombies or Ninjas. Kudos to those who have. -
/pet_select <n>
will select the n-th pet in the pet window. 0 (zero) is the first pet. You could bind this to control+1 or something to quickly select a pet. -
Quote:I... cannot even begin to fathom that you actually read the guide, based on your commentary here. The original poster was discussing a particular doctrine, and establishing that required a bit of background.
To be honest, I didn't read the whole thing. It was way too long. I stopped after seeing all the verbiage in the second post, and the third and later posts were totally skipped.
The question I answered was in his thread title, which is what I was hoping the OP was going to talk about. "What two macros do you need?"
The two macros you need are:
1. Bodyguard mode with a Follow command.
2. Some form of Attack macro.
The rest is flavor and personal preference. And if the OP needs 6 tl;dr posts do say that, then I think the OP went off into the weeds in his discussion. Explaining why you need those macros is easy and doesn't take that much discussion, and most folks get it right away.
Maybe if you could break his doctrine down a bit for us, I'd be interested. But there's just a wall of text up there and I don't think I need to read it just to justify making "two macros." -
The OP's information is OK but it really could be a lot simpler. There are better guides for the full Monty. See Sandolfan's bind guides which are in the Masterminds' guides stickied at the top of this forum.
The first thing you need to know is Bodyguard Mode. If your pets are in defensive stance, then they absorb damage for you. A Mastermind can get 75% resistance to everything, which is huge.
The easiest way to get bodyguard mode is to right click on your newbie macro that says "Follow". Pick Edit, and then in the text window remove the word "Aggressive" and put in "Def" (without quotes). Click OK. Now whenever you click the Follow macro you'll enter full bodyguard mode automatically. You can now run up and slug mobs and have more resistance than many brutes.
The other thing is the Attack button which works well enough out of the box. Concentrating damage is a good idea, as the OP points out. After running up to a mob and sluging it, or otherwise attracting aggro, you'll have full bodyguard mode but your pets will attack whatever they want. This is OK because you want them to pull aggro off you. Once you order them to Attack you'll loose bodyguard mode so you don't want some mob beating on you when you do it.
Use the time while your henchmen are attacking willy-nilly to find a good target. Usually I pick something like a minion that can be killed quickly. This eliminates a source of damage sooner and makes your minions much more survivable. Once you're ready, have your victim selected in your target window, then click on the Attack button. Your minions will pile onto the target, dispatching it more speedily.
Once you are ready for more, and you have more minions (usually at least 3 or so, at level 12), you might want to try more extensive macros, or even as I prefer key-binds. You'll want to learn to make only some of your pets Attack. You can have partial bodyguard mode, being safer while still directing some firepower where it's needed. This is an important and sophisticated technique. Also, many melee pets (Ninja, Zombie, the Thug's Bruiser, maybe Demons too) work better if you use the GoTo command to order then directly into close combat. See the OP's posts and Sandolfin's guide for more info.
Summary:- Edit the Follow macro to give you bodyguard mode. Right click, pick edit, and remove the word Aggressive and replace it with the word Def.
- Use the Attack macro to concentrate fire. This reduces the damage you and your henchmen take.
- Later, Edit the Attack button to only make some of your henchmen attack. This leaves you with some protection from partial bodyguard mode. And learn to use GoTo to get the most out of your melee henchmen.
- Full information in the guides stickied at the top of this forum. Especially refer to Sandolfan's guide, which I still use.

Quote:Also the Prot Bot's heal can be boosted with Heal IOs/SOs/DOs/TOs. Of course there are several DeBuffs too that can be boosted, notably in Mercs and Thugs. If a pet has abilities which boost those things, you can slot enhancements to improve them. (The only one's I'm aware of are the Ember Demon's Ember Shield, and the Protector Bots' Force Shield.) However, there's a certain amount of argument on whether it is worth enhancing these effects.
Quote:There's also the defense bonus aura and resistance bonus aura IOs, which provide significant bonuses, but only if your pets stay close enough... -
Yeah, I had that with step 3. Or almost.
It's kinda odd, I'm not sure if this is correct, but here's what finally worked. Mat is correct, for some reason a copy of the updater in the new CoHTest directory doesn't quite work. You have to use the original one.
So here's what I did to fix it:
1. Rename CoHTest to CohTest. This is just easier because the default directory has a lower case "h." No other reason. I didn't even have to recopy any files. You should leave the copy of the live files that you already made in there.
2. Remove the previous short cut I'd made to CoHTest and replace it with one to "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe". You can do this just by right clicking on the cohupdater.exe file in Explorer and selecting "Send To->Desktop (Create Shortcut)"
3. Now just edit the new short cut. Right click, pick Properties. Add "<space>-test" on the end of the text in the Target field. The whole thing should now read {{"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe" -test}} with out the {{ }} bits, and don't forget the space in between -test and the end of the " stuff.
4. I also deleted the cohupdater.exe from the CohTest directory before I tried it. Not sure if this is necessary.
Then start up your new CoH Test by double clicking on the new shortcut you just made. Accept the default directory "CohTest" if that's what you named it (like I did), or show it where you copied your files to. It'll do some downloading and some "fixing" but after about five minutes it should be done. -
Yes, Training Room or PTS (Public Test Server) as the devs call it.
Best place to go is the Test Server Forum.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=576
Big announcement at the top of that forum titled "How to get on the Test Server." -
Hmm, tried this, and the updater tells me that it had an "Error opening file C:\Program Files\CoHTest/CohUpdater.exe"
and this suggests that I might be out of disc space or trying to install where I don't have permission to.
This is after the updater starts to run, and asks me to choose a directory to install to. I did have to manually switch it from "CohTest" to "CoHTest"
Help? -
Hey all, I deleted my copy of the Test client some time ago. Now I want to check out some lag issues on the Test server (I'm having the button delay issue).
What's the easy way to get on the Test server without downloading the whole client? I don't see the instructions posted anymore. I thought it was:
1. Make a CoHTest folder
2. Copy everything in City of Heroes folder to CoHTest folder.
3. Make shortcut to cohupdater.exe in CoHTest with " -test" option.
Any modifications to that? -
As of today, there are more fixes up on the test server for both lag and sound issues. It would probably be better if you posted this on the Test Server forum. And logged into Test to try the latest PTS build.
