Quote:my guide:
1: put yourself on 'follow'
2: rock the aura
3: go AFK until you hear the mission complete
4: PROFIT!
=P
Someone actually tried this with my tanker yesterday. They put their DP blaster on follow and auto'd what appeared to be their weakest DP attack, and left. Needless to say I was not pleased as soon as I noticed, and it didn't take long (one fight) on a duo to notice that the level 32 DP was only using one attack. Not to mention the whole doesn't-respond-in-chat-anymore thing.
This is a good way to find yourself sitting outside a mish door.
Pro tip: When you do come back and find yourself sitting outside the mish door, DO NOT play dumb about why it happened. Welcome to ignoresville, dumba**. -
Any IO set which has a desirable bonus with only two IOs is useful because you can Frankenslot with it easily. For example you could go for +Health and +Regen with Luck of the Gambler, which requires 3 IOs, and then add two Gift of the Ancients for the +Recovery. Only takes 5 slots too.
You can also Frankenslot with two GofA and then just use regular IOs to enhance the power as you like. This is often much cheaper than trying to buy an entire IO set. It gives you one or two set bonuses, and then you don't have to bother buying the rest of the set, which can get pricey.
Other thoughts on Recovery: Like the OP, I take the medicine pool. And just two Miracles in Aid Other or Aid Self will give an even better bonus: +2.5% Recovery. Again, going for the sets that give me the bonus I want with only two IOs slotted.
Miracle's can be pricey, but some of the less desirable ones are often sold cheap. A End/Rech Miracle recently sold on the market for less than 300 Inf. That's super cheap. Place a low bid, and wait. You'll get one eventually. Once you get any two, slot them in one power and you can enhance the power with regular IOs to get the Healing and other aspects where you want them.
So with Aid Self and Aid Other we're up to +5%. If you take the Resurect from the Medicine set (I do), you get an additional +2.5 for +7.5% total. Add that to the 10% bonus above and you have a pretty good Recovery.
There aren't too many more good +Rec bonuses, but your pet sets do have a few. And again you get them after only two IOs, so you can Frankenslot. Commanding Presence and Blood Mandate both give a +1.5% bonus with only two IOs slotted. So you can easily double up. Put two CP and two BM in your Battle Drones and you have +3% Recovery from one power. And there's still room for a regular +Damage IO or an Aura or something.
Since you can get up to 5 of the same bonus, you can slot your Assault bot the same way and still add one more bonus to the Protector Bots for a total of another 7.5% Add that to all the bonuses above and you've got +25% Recovery -- the same as base (unslotted) Stamina. Not too shabby for skipping the power.
I hope my ramblings give a few folks some ideas how they can slot their toons better. Bots/FF is the only AT I skip Stamina on, but you can use the same ideas to get bonuses on other ATs with similar strategies. It's pretty obvious really, but it took me a while after IOs came out to figure out what I could do with them. So I thought some other folks might benefit from some of the stuff I do, esp if they're new or returning players. -
As an experiment, I ran my Patron arc a couple of days ago on my Dark/Pain (not a strong soloer). To be fair, she's on Freedom, but after a bit of advertsing I got an MM to join me and we did the first mish. Then a Brute showed up, and before I could get to the next mission I had a full team, and we did the whole arc. Fun times.
So at least partially I think population may have something to do with it. It's definitely easier to run a team on Freedom when you're recruiting in Grandeville, than say Port Oaks on Champion.
However there are still options. Join a global chat channel and offer to run the team. Lots of folks would rather have someone else run the missions than do it themselves. You get merits too if you run your own arcs, so I consider this to be a benefit for folks who are willing to run the teams. -
I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Quote:My Pool powers are Leadership, Flight (for concept) and Medicine (because you just can't wait on Repair to recharge in a big fight.)
If you skipped Stamina, I found it's nice to go for a lot of +Recovery in your Defense powers (and Pets too). Once you get up to about +15% Recovery it's almost like having Stamina, and you have a full three more powers and one pool power set to choose from. I find this very nice.
The main Def IOs I use for this are Gift of the Ancients. Only takes two and you get +2% per pop. You can slot up to 5 of the same bonus, so that's +10% Recovery with only 10 IOs right there.
See this page here for planning:

Also, don't miss that Power Boost was added to Black Scorpion. Add a little Recharge in your bubbles and you can easily put both Deflection Shield and Insulation Shield on three teammates per usage of Power Boost. This is also very nice for teaming. -
Quote:LOL, wiser words are seldom spoke. As a sysadmin, I do not leave anything to chance when it comes to database migrations.
Read Bill Z's post again folks, and then look at the animated GIF in III Pheonix III's sig, and put the two together when you think about "database migrations."
Protect yourselves. -
This is weird. I see Super Jump at 24 but I can't find Combat Jumping or Jump Kick. Cut and paste error or did I miss it?

Looks OK, although my own /Traps build is pretty low-level still.
I'd question the need for Triage Beacon. I think Aid Other might be more useful. Those who have taken /Traps to the highest levels might want to debate that.
Also, Acrobatics and Pulse Rifle Burst might be replaced with something else. However, this may come down to personal preference. If you don't like getting tossed around, and want a gun to shoot, well heck, it's about fun more than anything else.
Finally, Black Scorpion and his shield will stack with the Def from your FFG and Prot Bots. And his Web Envelope will keep most mobs in the Assault Bot's burn patches longer. Just something to think about. -
I had this happen to me a couple of weeks ago. My pets just plain stopped following me or doing anything at all, although I could still TP them, get them to "say" things when I switched stances on them, and they'd also auto-tp to me if I moved far enough away.
I did a "/petcomall dismiss" (which got a verbal response from them but no animation) and then logged off and back in. Then I could summon them and they all worked. It's like the /sync bug but for pets or something. -
Thanks, Duck.
Pain already has me jumping in and out of range, so another one won't hurt. And the Soul Mastery fits well with the character concept (Scirocco would too) and I like the big hold and the fact that one power is also a cone. Should be fun times. -
Quote:Welcome to Altaholics Anonymous! Pull up a plastic chair and siddown.Recreating your 5+ year old main character on a different server using the same sets but with the superior archetype.
Quote:You know what else is fun? Swipe, Strike, Brawl, Swipe, Apprentice Charm, Brawl, repeat and having it be so end efficient that I never need to rest and that's with FF, FS and Sprint all toggled on.
And yes, several of my low level characters are repeats with slight variations of my other characters. It's a good way to try stuff out. I have a SD/War Mace tanker, so I also have a lower level Axe/SD Brute who is the tanker's evil twin sister! Similar build, similar costume, etc. and they're on the same server, so watch out when Going Rogue hits. It's definitely fun. -
Hey folks, I have a Dark Blast/Pain Domination corruptor that needs a patron. I've tentatively picked out Soul Mastery. Soul Drain, Power Boost, and Soul Drain all look darn interesting.
However, I wanted to make sure I'm not making some horrible mistake. Does anyone have thoughts on other Patrons? Any free form discussion, hints, or screeds are welcome. -
There are several powers that already do affect the user. AOE Heals, Dispersion Bubble, etc. So we have at least some that work like you want.
I think you are correct in your sentiment, but I'm a concerned it would completely over-balance some power sets. Some buffing sets would become too powerful. My Bots/FF would probably be far too powerful, and I'd like to see that AT not get hit with a nerf stick later on as a result.
It's a MMO. That means you're supposed to play with other folks. Really, if you can't get even one other person to play with, then I think you are doing something wrong. That may not be a popular idea with you, but there it is. Surely you can advertise a bit and run some missions, put a team together, etc.
If folks are truly having trouble teaming, then I think there may be issues with population. "Looking for more" flag, better team search options, maybe even a temporary server merge (which should work like instancing a zone in reverse: when pop numbers are low, combine zones from several servers into one zone.) Stuff like that would be more fun, imo, than self buffs. I like having people to play with. -

Weatherby made a good suggestion. Many AVs in game to scale down to Elite Bosses, which the XP and other rewards seem fine for.
Maybe AV at less than minimum level -> automatically an Elite Boss, not AV. Should take care of at least some reward problems. They'll still be available for story reasons but won't give larger rewards that AVs normally do.
Just my 2 cents. -
Quote:With reasonable investment, any secondary can be made solid. It doesn't take long to make what you need to make your toon strong if you do it smart, and concentrate on one toon.
Thanks, I think I'll go with this. I like my SS/Elec, so I'll probably keep up with him. OTOH hand my Claws/WP brute was coming along and is fun too, so maybe I could level him too. Of course, there's the Widow and Fort to think about also.
OK, so maybe the "contentrate on one toon" thing is going to be the hard part.
"Hello, Brute forum. My name is gameboy1234 and I'm an altaholic." *waves* -
Quote:Hmm, that bit I didn't want to hear, as I really don't like /Strone, and I'm also cheap as heck.Unless you want to get stuck with stone armor, any kind of real tanking with a brute will come at the expense of a sizable investment.
So maybe I should be asking, what's good that I don't have to IO the blazes out of to make it work as a reasonable tanking build, without foregoing damage? (Assume one could forego damage on a Brute somehow.) -
Hey all, I was having a conversation on BMT of Champion today about good brute power sets for SF and Hami raiding. My SS/Elec seems ok damage-wise, but really can't tank that well. So I'm looking for other options.
The idea here is that while playing for fun is the key, face-planting isn't fun, so I'd like something that works well in addition to being fun.
I was advised on BMT that Willpower is probably the best all-around tanking secondary right now. What about Claws? Is that good or does the Lethal damage get resisted too much at higher levels? I'm looking for good concept here too (at least imo) so just Fire/WP 'cause it's FOTM doesn't appeal to me as much.
How about Dark/Dark? I'm having fun with a low level Dark/Dark brute (not on Champion though.) Is it hard to get to where it can tank? Or are the lower resists and reliance on self-heal too much to over-come?
Any help is much appreciated! I'll post a build or whatever once I get some idea of the general direction I should take. -
Quote:I'd reconsider taking build up over follow up. Follow up is generally your first strike to get the to-hit/damage for your subsequent attacks. This is kind of counter-productive for a widow since FU's damage is pretty crappy and you'll want to optimize your first strike from hide for the crit. Build up/Slash is optimal for that.
I totally agree with this. My attack chain right now is basically BU, Slash, Lunge, Strike. With Hasten and a little global recharge, I don't need too much more. I should probably get some AoE soon, but the single target has been working really well for me. My widow is built around striking from Hide. If Hasten is down, I have Sands of Mu and Poison Dart to fill in.
I'm also a fan of Smoke Grenade.
Quote:One final word of advice - frankenslot Mind Link for recharge as soon as you can. -
Quote:You could play Robots/thermal to get a feel for masterminding. The robots are very sturdy and are fairly easy to control, not apt to go roving off by themselves. Thermal is the fire shield set and would not be a bad pairing for the robots.
This is a good suggestion. You'll get some experience with /Thermal, and Robots are awesome. Plus, flaming robots. How can you go wrong with that? -

Try clicking on the guards themselves. You have to aim low, basically at their feet.
