Quote:I've cancelled my pre-order with gamestop.ca
I called today to ask about the status, and I was told, "It hasn't been released yet".
Black Pebble recently posted something to the effect that the distributor in Canada *****'d big time and didn't get the boxes shipped. So Gamestop CA may indeed show the title as "not released" because they haven't got it yet. Just guessing, but this isn't directly GS fault I think. -
What level are you now? And what are your goals for this MM?
I have a level 50 Bots/FF and I just love it. I can solo and farm with it. It'll effortlessly handle +1x4 missions, so it's great for earning drops or tickets with little effort. It's fun on teams too, as I can put the bots on auto and concentrate on buffing or other powers. I've done several ITFs with it and it seems to really boost the team as well as put out decent damage the whole time.
I went Black Scorpion. Power Boost is great with bubbles on teams, and Web Envelope is adequate immob when soloing. The shield is good +Def that stacks with my own when I need the extra protection.
For my build, I skipped Stamina, and then went for IO sets that gave +Recovery. I don't have the equvalent of Stamina yet, but getting there would not be hard, or expensive. I've got severe alt-itis so I haven't really concentrated on any one character yet to "IO them out" or similar, let alone start slotting purples.
So anyway, tell us how you feel about your toon now. Do YOU see any problems? Some play styles can't be changed. Bots/FF is always going to feel very passive as there's not much to do solo other than sumon and buff. On a fast moving team though that will keep you very busy, ime. Just depeons on what you want. -
The damage bonus is 2x the fury bar, iirc. So it's 200% max, but that's no longer achieveable. At a more reasonable 55% fury maximum, the bonus would be 110%.
So the basic problem is he's making numbers up and has no idea what is actually going on. -
Well, I play Bots/FF, which frankly doesn't solo anything past Elite Bosses. And I use Force Bubble which obviates any problems with melee. So if there really have been big changes, that's probably why I haven't noticed.
What's bugged about GoTo? I use it and haven't noticed any problems. -
Well I'm not qualified to say one way or the other. The dev's certainly seemed to regard the fix they made as being the correct solution.
If you want to convince them otherwise, I'd suggest avoiding words like "lie." A more positive and pleasant attitude will almost certainly be required to convince Paragon Studios to take a second look at pet AI. Heck, your comment wasn't even aimed at me and yet I'm inclined to dismiss it as excessive nerd rage and sophomoric internet posturing.
For what it's worth, I play Bots, and I haven't noticed any significant change in behavior. There was always some weirdness with the Rikti dummies that caused pets to mob them at melee range. This is not new. -
Quote:They fixed the bug a while back...
The "running into melee" bit that plagues all ranged Masterminds is a quirk of the AI. A pet that has used all its ranged attacks will be inclined to use its melee attack...
Just how I see things. It's how my MMs have always played, so I suspect it's considered WAI.
This is what I understand also. Pet AI was fixed a few patches ago, it is now working as intended. Also, if I understand correctly, there's "group" code in the AI that controls the entire spawn which causes some mobs to just randomly run into melee range, even if they don't need to. This same code randomly causes your pets to enter melee range, even if they don't need to. This is also considered WAI.
The devs just don't want us to have 100% control of out pets. It's part of the game that we have to work at positioning and commanding our pets to get them to do what we want.
Quote:IE: All Demons throw their ranged attacks then cluster into melee...
Its made this highly enjoyable set almost unplayable at high level.
I totally agree that better control of the pets would be desirable. I wonder if the devs would give this to us as an Incarnate or other special power, something we have to work at to earn. That would make us better MMs and also represent our increasing control over our henchmen in an in-game sort of way.
I think the devs will not, because the AI changes would be too hard, but it might be worth it to ask. -
Pain Dominiation - Enforced Morale
I want a "whip crack" for this power, like what Demon Summoning has. The whip will probably need to come from hammer space, but that would be ok. As long as I can crack the whip at folks who are slacking off, I'll be happy. -
Thanks Z-man, these look great.
I'm gonna need about 30 more costume slots... per character. -
Quote:One could make a distinction between a Massive and Micro multi-player experience and still use the same general abbreviation. It would be difficult to convey verbally, but in writing I'd refer to the former as an MMO and the latter as an mMO.
Except "m" is "milli". The Greek letter Mu is used for micro, although many folks use a "u" which looks similar. So "uOG" is what I'd go for.
The second M in MMO stands for "Multiple" and it doesn't really make sense to me to refer to "mirco-multiple." Once you're micro, I'm not sure the multiple part really matters. Also I can't figure out how folks keep dropping the "Game" from "MMO." I know many folks do it, but where the heck does that come from? It's Massively Multiple Online Game. Dropping the "game makes no sense, it's just an adjective then. Probably some used it to describe a "MMO game" but there you have the noun in a sentence. OK grammar Nazi rant over. -
While I think you can go with anything, I think one of the "auto" secondaries would be better. Just because you'd have to do less.
/Pain Dom you could buff, rock an aura, and drive through most mishes with little else. Maybe Anguishing Cry and Pain Bringer occasionally when needed. Force Fields plays much the same way, but it's a little more intensive to buff each pet. /Thermal may play similarly.
Just speculating here but those seem like they'd be the better farmers to me. If you want to actually play, then anything will do. -
He did say "all" so I assume he means Tier 1, 2, and 3. Robots get Full Auto on the Drones only.
Protector Bots get Photon Grenades and Seeker Drones, neither of which are a cone, and the Assault Bot gets the two missile attacks, which also are not cones.
You might argue that these upgrades are better than cones, but that's a different story. They still aren't cones. I assume that ALL of the mercs get cones at 32. -
Quote:The numbers dont matter if the approach is pretty much similiar
But the approach is not similar. Not similar enough to be called the same, anyway. That's what folks are saying here, Brutes play differently.
Quote:I think there is a reason why you snipped out the part with "through damage dealing" from my quote
Simply for brevity. Anyone following the thread has already read your post, why repeat it?
Paranoia shall destroy ya. -
Quote:Except there is clearly a difference. If nothing else, read through the stats on Red Tomax. Numbers don't lie.Honestly there is absolutely no difference between a well played tanker and a well played brute. Both should be the first ones to charge in and take the alpha, both should have no trouble holding most of the aggro
And some of us play /Electric Armor brutes, which isn't known for being tough, or similar sets. I run a pretty darn tough /ELA brute but support has to work really hard to keep me alive if I'm taunting 8 man spawns. I know because I've done it. It just isn't feasible most of the time without more support than most teams have. I know because I've failed at it too. My tray of Insp isn't infinite.
There's lots of things to do besides rush the Brute in first. Maybe the Corruptor wants to use Fearsome Stare. Maybe the Fortunata should be using Psychic Wail or Aura of Confusion to soften up the alpha. Maybe sleep a bunch and then apply some debufs. There's lots of strategies besides "rush the brute in" and sometimes they're even necessary.
Quote:On a team there is something called "team play" and every AT should do his best to use his abilities in a way which makes this team play more enjoyable for everybody.
Team play is fine but you have to use your head. "Always rush the brute in" isn't using your head, it's following a preset mindset, an ideology, and it's not always going to work and it'll slow down every one's fun as a result.
And you don't always have a perfectly built brute an every level to work with. I'm not talking about level 50, perma-doms and purpled-out brutes. Most of the game happens in CoH before level 50. Sometimes you don't even have IOs yet. Some times you have players who are new and don't know the ropes yet. I've found that there's a large number of (very!) young kids playing this game. They aren't always the best players. You have to adjust your own play style and expectations to what the team has to offer.
Quote:Just imagine a corruptor coming into your team which dosnt heal or buff or whatever else his secondary set offers... and then he tells you "no sorry thats not my job, I'am not a defender" -
Quote:That said, if you're playing a brute, I'm not going to expect you to tank, but I am going to expect you to try and hold as much agro as you can handle. As a brute, that serves a couple purposes A) it clumps things up to AoE to death, and B) it enables YOU to deal more damage, thus speeding our progress through the mission.
This. Which is what I was trying to say when I called Brutes "meatshields." Brutes aren't tankers and shouldn't be expected to tank an entire 8 man spawn (though I think a few builds can).
Brutes should be expected to hold their own in the middle of a big fight, and hold aggro on at least some part of the spawn, for their own fury and so the rest of the team has less enemies to deal with. Saving squishies is OK, but you can't save a squishy from the whole spawn, squishies have to manage their own aggro too. -
Is it fair to say that Brutes are meatshields? Along with Masterminds, they provide some basic aggro absorbsion for the team. Stalkers and Doms can provide some lockdown which will also mitigate team damage (Stalkers do it through the Fear effect in Assassin Strike).
So a Brute should expect to be able to tank part of a large spawn, but should also expect to have help. -
Quote:This. At lower levels, before the big upgrade at level 32, the robots have fewer attacks. When they run out of ranged attacks, they get the bright idea 'it's clobberin' time!'
This is always the way pet AI has worked, unfortunately. When any pet has a melee attack ready and no ranged attack ready, it'll rush.
What I do is just go with it. Charge into combat yourself with pets in tow. Stop just a bit beyond the first target, so that your pets are just touching it. Now they won't have to move to melee a target and so they'll be a lot more likely to stay within your Dispersion Bubble. If you do this with Bodyguard mode (Defensive Follow, usually), you are practically immune to damage, so you're very safe while your Bots beat on the enemies.
Use Force Bolt to knock down runners and prevent chasing, or to ghetto hold a Boss.
And that's like 31 levels of gameplay for Bots/FF. -
Quote:I use share pain all the time solo. In bodyguard mode you take at MOST half damage (well, ok; 2/3 when you only have 1 bot out) and generally just one of my bots is getting the beatdown, so we all share the pain together.
This.
Even on my Corruptor, Share Pain was my first pick over Soothe. The self-damage is not that much, and on a MM the damage is shared between all pets on bodyguard mode. Share Pain has a fast recharge, heals a lot, costs almost no End and gives you a self damage buff.
I really think the OP has, at minimum, not really consider this power properly when he says not to take it. It's a great power and one I've always used successfully on my Dark/Pain corr. -
They're doing some maintenance tomorrow, cross your fingers. I noticed that with the global channels down today the lag seemed better.
Also, villains are hold all your question marks hostage: -->((????????))<-- Pay us 1 billion Inf or you'll never see them again! Ahahahahahaha! -
-
Quote:24. Enforced Morale: stacking to 25% recharge time bonus is amazing
The recharge does not stack for ANYONE. I've had other players open their Combat Attributes window while I stack up Enforced Morale. Most you can get is the base 5%. That is global recharge though so I still think EM is totally worth it.
You CAN stack the status protection. On a single target you can get like 50+ protection easily for the categories that EM protects. Two applications of EM will give 20+ protection which is enough for almost any situation. -
I'll agree with that. At least for a game like CoX, upgrading in place seems like a better idea. In fact, that seems to be what they're doing right now with Going Rogue. It has new graphics, new mission tech and a new improved starting area (something folks have been asking for for a long time). Over all GR is the perfect CoH2, keeping the old player base while allowing new folks to start in what is essentially a new game.
OK, drifting threads a bit here. Lore... the coming storm. "A wizard did it."
No? OK.
While the coming storm might be a singular event as Sam points out, it could be multiple plot lines coming together at the same time too. A "perfect storm" of bad guy attacks. So the multiple attacks sort of idea isn't entirely out, imo.
Regarding the Shivaun: the lore says Shiva was destroyed. Later, a meteor shower on Earth rained what everyone assumes are the radio active fragments of Shiva on Bloody Bay. The Shivauns we see now are not Shiva, but they may be some sort of weird component of Shiva body, and there's some evidence that they are trying to re-constitute Shiva itself somehow. So while Shiva is officially kaput it's also still tangentially in the storyline too, although imo it's not a prime contender until we see it start to actually reassemble itself. -
Quote:As much as you want. On teams that are just steam rolling everything, set about half of your pets on aggressive and ignore them. On small teams, teams that are struggling or solo, it's much better to order pets to attack a single target and kill it quickly.First question is just how much pet micro managing should I expect to do?
You can also order your pets to attack a target so as to pull aggro off a teammate. This is very much a poor mans taunt but if the mob isn't damaged much yet it works well. In this case you might order your pet to attack a new target before the first target is dead, since your goal is to save a teammate in trouble rather than kill mobs as efficiently as possible.
Quote:Is it simple as setting them to bodyguard mode and just make sure they don't go running off to whole other mobs or is there alot more needing to be done?
Quote:For Tankminding I am assuming the idea is jump in, taunt, and support as needed?
Quote:I took what I learned and tried my hand at crafting a build for a Demons/Pain MM.
On teams, esp. if they're steamrolling and have good aggro management already, you might want a second build that skips provoke and maybe adds both Soothe and Share Pain.
Quote:P.S. I also have no experience with the Pain set, so it's all new to me but I tried to read info first before coming here to post. -
Slot your Bots like attack powers.
1-2 Accuracy, 2-3 Damage.
Once you get 4 or 5 slots in the Protector Bots it's worth it to slot a Def in there too. It'll boost the Def of their bubbles and stack with FFG and Leadership:Maneuvers. This becomes way worth it as soon as you get two Prot bots at level 24. -
Quote:Of course, you could take them to assist in the run up to 20, skipping stamina prereqs, then when you hit 20 use your second build to fake-respec into stamina and drop the blasts.
This is what I'd advocate. The Rifle attacks are good damage filler while you still have less than your full complement of henchmen. However, I'd wait until 24-26 before getting rid of the rifle attacks. A second protector bot and SOs make a big difference in your pets' damage output. I don't however know how /Traps plays without Stamina, you'll have to use your own judgment there.
