  1. I just took a break after a short play session and got a 181 Mb download after I quit.

Hmm, I wonder what it could be for...?
  2. This might be a little old (i.e., I might have been scooped here) but I was browsing through the xkcd archives and found a CoH reference.

Go to the xkcd Online Communities 2 comic and click on the main image. You'll get a HUGE high resolution map of their Online Communities comic. (It's really huge. Modem users go make a sandwich.)

Look on MMO Isle. On the bottom near the center, a little to the left near (unfortunately) the Gulf of Lag is a little spot labeled CoH.

Clutching at straws here but again maybe something will be a clue.

Forgot to mention that when I use that URL above I do not get logged in, even though I'm logged in here, and I'm still logged in when I come back. Weird weird.

So it might be "just" an internal server name, but it seems to by-pass the login somehow.

  5. Really weird:

Last night at about 11:35pm, I was logged off when I returned after being away for a few hours, so I attempted to log back in.

Thank you for logging in, gameboy1234! Then it promptly logs me off when the auto-redirect takes effect.

    So I try again.

Okaaaaaaaay. Whatever. So I cruise around the forums a bit anyway. About 5 minutes later, it logs me in automatically.

    Wah?

I'm not going to guess why this may be happening, but I thought I'd mention it in case it gives someone a clue.

    Good luck.

A problem with the help channel in game is that if you click on the Help tab and try to type, you get a weird error message. The Help tab is still bound by default to the /help command, not /hc. This is not noob friendly.

You're in the right spot and asking here is fine, but you might get answers for stuff like this faster if you just broadcast ("/b question here") your question in Atlas Park or similar well populated zone.

Unless you're on a trial account... those can't broadcast.

I'm pretty sure this is not the case. I regularly use Hover and Caltrops always sticks me to the ground.

Maybe there's a difference for activating a temp power vs. running a pool power, or something about the Temp Power you are using (I know there's at least one bugged temp travel power in game), but my experience sure doesn't match yours.

OTOH, I've never had that much trouble with Knives. There's less fleeing now in game, so my bots don't run away as much, and they seem to attack just fine. I'll try to find some Knives in a 'paper mish or something and test out the run-away behavior, but I don't think it stops my pets attacks completely.

Also, OTOH, I've seen similar behavior from NPCs who get slowed. The -Recharge really messes up the AI.
  10. I've got a Mind/Empathy Controller specifically because she's not really into hurting folks. The Sleep and the Mind Control allow her to "hold" people without hurting them.

I still took the damage attacks though. If folks get nasty I can bounce them off the pavement a few times, no problemo.

    This.

Same for Share Pain in Pain Dom. I take Share Pain and Absorb Pain first, before the other single target heal, while I'm leveling.

On Pain Doms at least Share Pain has excellent recharge and almost no End cost (literally it's 0.15 End per cast). This makes it an excellent heal while leveling. Eventually I get both for flexibility, but at low levels before lots of slots are available Share Pain is vastly superior imo. I assume Absorb Pain is similar.

As long as your team is competent you are in no danger.
  12. Was the radius of Twilight Grasp reduced? I seem to remember it as 25' on my corr too, but it's listed as 20' now at Red Tomax.

I don't remember an announcement regarding this set being reduced. Anyone know for sure?

    You stole my idea.

    Additional ideas:

    1. Mods/GM sets some preferences on their own screen so they don't have to set complicated commands each time. One click bans!

    2. Subject of ban gets:

    a. a large dark "shadow" around them which quickly gets smaller.

    b. GM drops from the sky with extra large Carnie Strongman Hammer (it's an in game reward for a badge). Should be about 3x as large as regular hammer.

    c. Huge "Footstomp" impact graphic around target (who dies immediately). Huge text above says "BAN HAMMERED", using text like with Containment or DB Weakened.

    d. GM gets choice of emotes afterwards: /em various dances, /em champion, /em teabag.

    e. GM gets choice of various models to use with the ban: Harlequin, Jack In Irons, Council Werewolf, Ghost Widow (Ghost Widow with huge hammer = funny), Scirroco, Miss Liberty, Statesman, maybe a few more.

    f. GM then engages Jet Pack and rockets back up to the sky.

I use bots but I tend to herd them into melee range anyway for the extra attack and to foul the enemy AI when it tries to move. Lots of folks are saying it's more frequent than it used to be. I haven't really seen that but then I don't depend on keeping pets out of melee as much as some other sets do. Force Bubble (/FF) works for me if I need to do that.

    MM noob question

You can't, really. They'll run in to melee when the AI decides that they should.

For bots, I just roll with it. Their melee attack is actually decent and it adds a bit of damage especially when solo. However, if you feel you really need to move pets around, they respond to a Goto command most of the time.

This won't prevent them from running back into melee, but it will usually move them around at least. And sometimes they do stay out of melee.

    Something like:

    /macro Move petcom goto

Then select a pet, click this macro, and you'll get a white "bullseye" cursor that you can click on the ground to move the selected pet. You can move groups of pets with petcomname or petcompow if you don't want to move them one at a time.

    So, what's left?

I'd like to see Psy Blast for Corruptors. Blasters have it, so why not?

I'd also like to see some pet customization for Masterminds. We have pretty good pets in terms of powers but they don't fit every character concept as well. Mercs might need a small buff.

I'd like to see some more "emanation points" for many of the blast powers. Especially for things like Fire and Ice, I'd like to see a backpack with a gun attached via a hose or cable so it looks like you are shooting your powers from a gun or device rather than your hands.

Also, Brutes with Bicycle Repair with be even more strong and pretty.
  17. Thread says braaaaaaaiiiiinnnnnnnsssssssssssssss.....

I dunno, it's kinda in keeping with the season. Zombies in game, zombie threads outside of game.

    Where's my crowbar?

As others have said, "full support" really isn't needed or a good idea. Concentrate on all aspects of your character, including damage.

One thing that hasn't been emphasized here is Villains. An Ice/Dark or Fire/Rad Corruptor would bring both excellent support and damage to a team.

I would like to summon a pet that does dmg whilst I can sit back and heal/buff but would also like to mezz/trap foes from attacking players. I will take a look through the Controller forum and see what information I can find.

    Mastermind.

Anything/Dark Miasma is what you want. Dark Miasma has a couple of holds, IIRC, as well as an excellent heal and several absolutely top-rank debuffs. The debuffs are the queens of that set but don't overlook all the other excellent powers.

I'd recommend any MM except Ninja for just starting out. Thugs would be excellent, but Robotics and Demons would also be very good. Zombies and Mercenaries are ok and would do fine for a concept build.

Sorry peeps, I haven't gotten to test it out yet.
Just to spell it out, that post says you can get the reward like a rare recipe ONCE, if you don't already have the badge. Once you have the badge, your reward is a large Inspiration (or 5000 Inf for the last one).

(The post says "50000" Inf but I'm pretty sure it was 5000 when I did it.)

So no dimished returns, it's a lock-out. You get it once, and that's it.

This is completely wrong. Defense is additive not multiplicative.

You subtract defense, not multiply it. If you have 50% defense, then you subtract that from the chance to hit. 50% chance to hit - 50% defense = 0%.

However, there is always a 5% to hit, no matter what, and there is always a 5% chance to miss too. So that 0% gets converted to 5%. Likewise, a 100% chance to hit (or more) gets converted to 95% chance to hit, which is the most you can have.

That's why 45% defense is considered "the soft cap." 50% to hit - 45% = 5%, so more than that doesn't do as much good.

Note that this soft cap doesn't factor in level differences, debufs, to hit buffs, etc. So while fighting even con NPCs with no bufs or debufs, the soft cap works, but in other situations, it's helpful to have a bit more at least.

45% defense is considered a good number however because most of your fighting is against enemies with a 50% chance to hit.

There's a respec trainer in Port Oaks too, I think, but I'm not sure of his name.
