Quote:You don't NEED to look into them.
They are a nice addition that will greatly improve your performance if you delve into them, but there is no NEED to.
I disagree. IO Sets at least need to be looked at and understood. You don't need to participate, but you do need to make an effort to understand what they might do for you.
Not all at once. Using Single Origin enhancements is fine for a while, but don't really dilly-dally either, there's some really nice stuff there. -
Also, if you load the test server version of the game, you can copy your character to the test server and horse around with builds there. Good if you really don't feel confident with the new systems. Note there almost nothing being sold on the market on the test server, so you'll have a hard time with any IO sets there, but the rest is available.
You can also copy the same character several times, it's very convenient when trying new things out. -
Quote:Thank you so much for the responses. I looked into a lot of your answers, and i think restarting a new guy will be my best bet. my guy has all DMG+++ enhancements in all his slots.
Yeah, you definitely don't want to do this anymore. Enhancement Diversification is a new way of calculating the bonus from those Dam Enh. Basically, any Enhancement at all works for about the first three of them, then gives squat after that. Don't six slot for Damage or anything else, it's a waste.
The general pattern is 1 Accuracy, 3 Damage, and then maybe 1 EndRedux and 1 Recharge. More Accuracy is always good, and if you have a slow recharging power then more Recharge and less EndRedux is ok too.
However, IO Sets tend to give bigger bonuses, and extra things too like +Hit Points or +Recovery (blue bar), so you do need to look into them. Mids will help with that. -
Yeah, stickied at the top of these forums, no less.
Well if you're new here then I guess you have to learn the ropes. Welcome aboard. -
Gotta agree things should work like Master Templar says. If they don't, most likely cause is operator error. Long distant second possibility is a bug of some sort. In between is likely lag.
OP: Try to get an experienced mastermind on your server to show you the ropes, if you are still confused after reading that excellent explaination. It's pretty amazing when you figure it out. -
Yeah it seems like everyone has 12 level 50's now.
Double-plus good on the server channels. Hop over to your server forum (here on these forums) and check out what everyone is doing. Find out what the server channels are and join them. You'll be much happier and much more plugged-in to what is going on.
Incidentally, the current WSF is Sister Psyche/Silver Mantis, both relatively low level Task Forces. If you hang out in Independence Port or Sharkhead Isle, you should be able to get a fair amount of teaming this week and weekend. -
This thread has gone to the dogs.

I got several screen shots of the event. Here's one showing a drop ship at minimum health and about to go blewie.

Quote:Threat = Damage * AT Mod * AI Mod * RangeMod * DebuffMod * (TauntDurationRemaining * 1,000).
Being a Brute, you could have also had a Taunt aura yourself. So if you did and you hit Romi with it you could have negated the Taunt Duration factor there. After that, it's just AT Mod vs. Damage vs. DebuffMod. -
For me it was my Bots/FF mastermind, which was my first 50.
Then the Widow and the Fort (two seperate toons, not one with two builds). The Widow hit 40 a while ago but now I'm playing the Fort more. She just made 41 yesterday.
Yup, try enough stuff and you'll find something that just "clicks" for you. -
Oh yeah. Remember when it used to work like this?

- Primary; Accuracy
This might not quite be true. Your pets don't hit with the same base ToHit as you do. Plus, if you're like me and slot for things besides Accuracy/Damage (for example, Defense and EndRedux in the Protector Bots) you might not be even close to capped Accuracy in the pets.
Suffice to say that I went Nerve and I'm very happy with it. It's a big boost to my pets accuracy, and the Defense allows me to hit the soft-cap (with Power Boost) with my bubbles. And it allows you to add more Auras into a power set like Robotics, which doesn't have any extra pet powers to take the Aura IOs. - NERVE

Skipping henchemen is another no-no around here, but I think it's also a discussion for another thread.
Suffice to say that I don't skip any pets. I do forego summoning them sometimes, or let them die, but they're always just a click away. -
I think the his main problem is he's claiming without reservation that FF is unneeded or useless on a good team. While if he'd just said "The healing sets also have debuffs and buffs, whereas FF's powers besides the shields are kinda weak sauce" he might have got general agreement.
The whole Heals > FF argument is pretty weak nevertheless. I've been on plenty of teams where my bubbler was obviously responsible in a great part for making things easy. One TF the Dark/ Defender even commented "Forgot I had a heal button" because up to that point we just hadn't needed it.
Lots of anecdotal evidence points to how useful FF is. I've been on teams where we were just rolling over everything, then I had to go AFK for a bit, and when I come back one teammate is dead and the rest are at half health. After rebubbling and get the dead guy back on his feet, we have no problems again. And I'm sure that team did have a "healer" too.
Heals are good, but the bubbles make everyone's job easier. It's not an either/or situation for me. Both are good and you can easily have both, though bubbles do seem to make a "dedicated healer" unnecessary.
Therefore, back to the original topic... is there any good reason to skip the small bubbles? Is there anyone (outside of Larker, who's said his piece), who it's this is really a viable power selection strategy to skip the individual shields? -
Required as in "required if you want to play the new stuff." All the older stuff that you're used to is still available to your existing account.
Population is up. Ever since Going Rogue and a ton of advertising, the server populations have seen a noticeable jump. On almost every server, there are Global Channels which are a constant source of raids, teams, advice and general chit chat. Supergroups and Villain groups are a lot less needed now. You can make a personal base and jump on the global channel and be good.
As I'm sure you're used to, much of the game is instanced so there's not always a crowd on the city streets even if there are lots of folks in game. The player finder (the thing built into the team window for finding folks) will help you get folks from the zone you are currently in.
That's all I can think of. Stop by your intended server forum (on these forums here) and say hi. Let folks know what you want to do, and they'll tell you the best way to do in on that server. -
After getting advice from another forum, it turns out I can get video from the external LCD port. The card hardware seems to be fine.
However, all the system ever boots to is the Start Up Repair utility. This runs a disc scan (takes like a hour) and then pops me into some sort of admin repair screen. There is an option to reinstall the factory OS. I'm tempted to use it. If some corrupt bytes got written to the driver or OS, it should clear them out. I hope.
Not going to yet though, waiting to see what other advice I can get.
I haven't contatcted Dell yet. The laptop is 4 years old and out of warranty. Last time I called them, which was recently, they were pretty unhelpful. -
Well, the issue appears to be repeatble. I logged in, ran the same mission, and about half way through, boom.
This second blue screen was worse than the first, I couldn't read the display. I had streaks and kept flashing to black. On reboot.... no screen. The display was completely black.
So, anyone know how to recover a laptop dispaly after a crash? I'll deinitely need that to get any info off the system. Rebooting several times hasn't helped. I tried unplugging it and removing the battery, waited a couple of minutes. Turn on... nothing.
I think the system is on because I can see the hard drive work and if I type, it seems to respond. Obviously, no display though so it's hard to be sure.
Also, FYI I'm posting this on the old tower, not the system that's busted.
Any help is much appreciated. -
Never actually had a BSoD with CoX before.
So after downloading the latest patch (2/15/2011), I logged on to the game and started an AE mission that I had. About 2/3 of the way through it I get a black screen for several seconds, then a BSoD message. Something about windows shutting down to protect my system, and that a driver reset failed. That's as far as I got to read before the system reset.
So, are these crashes logged anywhere? Where would I look to post some more info for the Devs?
My system briefly is a Dell laptop, XPS M1710. I have the latest drivers but being a laptop they're actually a rev back or so. NVidea 9700 GS Go. Windows Vista, latest updates on everything (I have auto updates turned on).
What else should I post? -
My personal rule of thumb would probably be about two weeks. Older than that it's unlikely anyone but you wants to continue the discussion.
Certain exceptions exist, where the whole point is to have a fun or joke or re-occuring thread. "Mace/Energy Aura So Strong and Pretty" in the brute forum for example. -

● If you have heals, you don't need bubbles.
∴ Heals > BubblesQuote:I've found this to be quite true at lower levels, but once you hit the mid-20s, early-30s this start to change.
This might be one of the better insights here on this thread. People just get the wrong idea from experimenting in early levels. Then don't get, or haven't seen, what actually hitting the soft cap does for a team. They run even-con paper/radio mishes which go ok, so they think their build is fine.
It's been so long since I've actually teamed at lower levels, I hadn't thought about it that way. Thanks TV. -
Quote:Ok since you didn't catch this;I don't have Insulation shield
We know. That's the thing that really drives me batty.
Quote:I have yet to be on a team yet that requires me to keep them constantly buffing them
At minimum, the devs are making new content that is much harder. You're are likely to need to buff the team in the future. More generally you're probably not noticing all the things your teammates are having to do when they aren't buffed, that wouldn't be needed if you just buffed them. Load up on Luck inspirations is one such example.
Quote:by healing
Here's where I really go spare. Really? Healing? Aid Other is superior to Insulation Shield? I'm just aghast that anyone could play this game and think so.
I know I asked the question and I wanted answers, so I'm trying not to argue with you for posting your reasons, but I'm a little floored by the response. -
Quote:I don't have Insulation shield and rarely use Deflection shield unless it's gonna be a tough battle/av/etc.
The constant buffing drives me nuts, my playstyle is aggressive and me and the bots like to steam roll.I DO NOT buff people on teams I'm on, I'm a mm not a 'fender my buffs are for my pets.
You do realize that Insulation shield is more than half of your Defense, right? It's like 3 times the Defense that Maneuvers provides.
And there might be some folks on a team who could use that Defense. I pulled out my Dark/Pain corruptor just because we had three MMs on the SF, I didn't see a need to add a fourth.
I guess I don't actually get the "buffing sucks" mind set. Why take a buffing set? -
I was on a TF the other day... I think it was the LFSF... and was teamed up with a Robots/FF Mastermind who skipped both his shields. He had all personal attacks, and Repulsion Bomb too, but no shields other than Dispersion Bubble.
What the heck?! Do people actually do this? What the heck for? At 50?! I guess I'm just a bit flabbergasted, but I do want to hear from folks who skip their bubbles, and maybe why and what they feel are the trade-offs that they justify when they do so.
We finished the SF just fine, the rest of the team rocked, but darn it folks I don't understand this infatuation with skipping such important powers.
