  1. At one time it was possible to click on teammates and "set as way point". I haven't tried this in a while, don't know if it still is.

I don't recall if you can click directly on the ground and "set as way point". I think it might be, but you might have to use the map.

Basically, I think we're all going to have to wait until Freedom shows up and we see the price sheet. Just a few too many variables trying to parse English. There's a reason why computers use formal languages, not natural ones.

The Quake AI is written in C, not some scripting language (I checked before I posted above). The text files he's referring to are the source C files, which were released as open source by ID.

Scripting languages don't exist in a vacuum. Someone writes a C program to read them and do what the scripts say. JavaScript needs a browser; PHP needs a runtime. There's no such thing as a CPU that runs JavaScript directly. Those are C or C++ programs which run the scripts. So it all comes down to running on a real machine at some point, as implemented by a human being.

That said, yes I'm sure "massive undertaking" is an understatement. I think (guessing here) that the underlying code which runs the scripts would have to be re-written. There are some basic pathing issues that don't look to me like they're implemented in scripts (too low level, and must be fast). That code would have to be changed, then the scripts on top of them would have to changed to take advantage of the system changes.

No one starts out trying to write spaghetti code, but all code ends up there eventually. I'm sure it's a huge mess.

AI code doesn't have to be that complex, and in this game, its probably nothing more then a few paragraphs of text. I've written AI code for other games before. (Quake, actually, sure its dated but it was far more complex than this game's AI).

LOL, so first you tell us that no one should talk about AI, then you go and talk about AI. Plus, your "AI experience" is tweaking someone else's code, not real design work at all.

Yeah, call me when you've got some actual coding experience.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's the same as we have now for multi-month plans: you get a small discount.

This is kind of understandable, as I was having trouble figuring out what would be different between VIP and Premium (free) for some of us long time players. However it does kinda go back on your word that we wouldn't lose anything we purchased, as the Incarnates were introduced with GR, and the two were announced together:

    http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co.../overview.html

Possible compromise: GR purchasers get to keep their Alpha Slot, and access to Apex TF and Tin Mage TF, and Mender Silos (for new Alpha Slots on new Chars). The other Trials were released later enough were you could kinda consider not part of GR (even though all the trials are Praetorian based).

I wouldn't even mind defensive follow's quirks if goto and stay worked properly(they don't) and if they ever get worked on defensive follow should be improved too

The point is that you have to control your henchmen. You must switch them between passive, defensive, attack, goto, etc. constantly in order to get them to really do what you want. Regardless of other bugs, the devs don't want to make the AI so smart that you don't do anything. I doubt they *could* make the AI that smart, but the devs don't even want to try.

Hence, you're going to have to get used commanding your henchmen during battle. I suggest some key binds. Look at Sandolfin's key bind guides in the Mastermind guides in their forums.
  10. This is a bug that's been around forever, or at least for MMs since the Super Sidekick thing. I wish they'd fix it. Good luck, I don't have the energy to chase it any more.

This, but also go Rogue or Vigilante first. You can do twice as many missions if you play both sides.

Speed ITFs or any speed TF is fine, but get on a "Shardy" one if you can, you'll get more XP if folks are going for shards.

Teaming also works too, just there seems to be fewer just random teams around. TFs are content folks seem to focus on.

This. I haven't been following the new LFG system features closely, but hopefully we can make ordinary teams that use the LFG feature, as well as this trial and also TF/SF and the WST.

I personally am starting to feel that the solution to this is ask the Devs to increase the limits of the global channels. Once the global channels can be made large enough, then the pressure to use things like /hc goes way down.

Larger size global channels also helps other communities in CoH too. I've put a bug in the ear of the Devs about it twice now. I think I'm going to try to keep it on their radar screen. The two things I think the global channels need are:

    1. Increase the limits to 200,000+ players.

    2. Get "remove inactive players" working correct. This will simplify things for the mods on those channels. (My understanding is that it's broke and doesn't remove old players. If this is working, then ignore this.)
  14. Toss up between Magic pack and the Macintosh edition (which I bought just to get the Valkyrie costume, the mission teleporter and the free month).

I thought they had the mac pack items for sale as a booster, but I don't see it on the current list of packs. Oversight?

This, except I have a Fortunata built like this (and I went Musculature, not Spiritual). I've 4 slots in Stamina, one with the Performance Shifter proc, Numi and Miracle uniques (easy to do with Tips), and I've got perma-hasten already via IO Set bonuses, so I went for extra damage.

It's possible for my Fort to bottom out on Endurance, but really hard, so I don't mind popping a blue now and again. I don't know how a Widow compares to a Fort, Endurance wise, however.

Gameplay is much easier here (note: I've never played WoW, so I can't compare directly). You're very likely to get help, or patient explanation, rather than kicked off of a group. A good place to ask if you don't understand what your group (team) is doing is the Help channel. Use the Help tab (right there in your chat window), or the slash command /hc to send messages to the help channel.

A couple more questions, what's the difference between playing a praetorian(? If that's the right name) and a plain ole hero/villain?
It's a different faction, with a different starting location and missions. It's also newer, and generally better. I'd still try out all three, all of the content is at least decent.

EDIT: also, there are epic archetypes as rewards, but Praetorians don't earn that reward. You'll need at least one hero and one villain to unlock those epic characters.

Bases are only for supergroups? Not just individuals?
You're allowed to be a supergroup of one, if you like. Many folks have their own base by forming their own supergroup.

Is the "sidekick" system any good or used at all?
Very good, works all the time, and you'll basically use it without trying. Just remember to check your level (top right corner, usually) when you team-up or change missions.

How's pvp on this game? I haven't seen a good, balanced pvp system in awhile..
Er, I don't PvP, and the latest round of "balance" seemed to make things worse. You should try the PvP forums for a more comprehensive opinion.

You should also check out the Archetype forums here on these boards:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=550

Many of the guides (usually stickied at the top of each forum) contain descriptions of how the player views their character.

    Servers?

Freedom and Virtue are certainly easier to get teams on than other servers, especially if you are new. However, I found them to be a bit laggy for my tastes.

If you can get on a global server for the server you choose, then population won't matter. Global channels allow you to get a team almost all the time.

Characters: these forums have an Archetypes section where you can ask questions about your character, and also they also have player made guides how to build and level your character. If you check those, there's almost no way to make a "bad" character except on purpose.

Enhancements: There's no practical way to "run out" of enhancements, although you can put at most six slots for enhancements in each power. The Archetypes forum I mention above will let you know the best ways to use those slots.

It's not like I run low on End a lot, it's just that it does happen occasionally and I have to keep an eye on it. Fortunately I haven't had the stuff I need to make the Tier 4 yet. So, sacrifice some damage from the core for the +Rec, or keep the extra damage and put up with chowing blues occasionally? I hate decisions like this.

Yeah, ED will throw a monkey wrench in the works. Basically, you don't get all the recharge you slot, and more than about 3 recharge IOs (about 95% recharge) get nerfed hard. So realistically 95% recharge is about all you can slot into a power, no matter how hard you try.

However, global recharge is NOT affected by ED, so it just adds right in without any limits, and some % of Alpha slot recharge is not affected by ED also, so it also just adds right in.

"Learn to use Mids" is a valid answer, but some folks are good at visualizing numbers and forumlas, and having the actual equations at hand can be an aid to using an "automagic" program like Mids. It's down to personal preference I guess. I personally also like to understand the underlying equations, because that knowledge helps me tweak Mids to get it to do what I want.
  20. Addendum: I've asked before about the dev's "redoing" some low level villain content and removing the newspaper missions as a requirement to get new contacts.

Here's another great reason to do that: it's unintuitive that you're supposed to go back to newspaper missions when you run out of content like this. People assume the game is broken instead.
  21. Billie is level 9, max. You passed him already.

IIRC, you have to do 3 newspapers missions (from Mickey the Ear or Drea the Hook) and then they'll give you The Radio as a contact. The Radio goes up to level 14. Then I think you pretty much have to go to Cap au Diable, the next zone.
  22. Note that's "bonus expressed as a decimal." So 95% = 0.95, 30% = 0.3, etc.

    10 second recharge w/ 95% bonus:
    10 / (1.95) = 5.13

    8 second recharge w/ 30% bonus:
    8 / 1.3 = 6.15
  23. Champion Global Channels: BMT of Champion, and Champions United.

Pretty much all hours, although the evenings US time are definitely more active. RWZ seems to have become the de facto zone to team up for a trial.
